Welcome to the latest edition of the Team Rater Competition! The tier this time around will be SS Monotype. For each round we'll post a team, and participants will have one week to complete a rate of said team. When the round is over, the participants who submitted the best rates will move onto the next round. If you are eliminated and want to receive feedback on your rate, the hosts will be more than happy to provide that upon request. Each round will last one week. Failure to rate the team within the one week time period will result in disqualification unless you're able to give us a valid reason. Please only sign up if you can commit to rating one team every week for the next month. If you're currently involved in or are looking to start rating Monotype teams, I highly encourage you to participate as this promises to be a great learning experience. Here's to a fun and competitive tournament!

Important notes:
  • The top two rates from each round in addition to the rates in the final round will count towards the Team Rater badge
  • Each round will last one week. Failure to rate the team within the period given will result in disqualification unless you're able to give us a valid reason. Please only sign up if you can commit to rating one team every week for the next month.
  • Please submit your rates to the hosts via Smogon conversation.
  • If you are eliminated and would like some feedback on your rate and how you can improve going forward, feel free to ask us.
  • At the end of each round, we will announce the best rate from that round and a quick overview of what we liked in the rates submitted.

Submit your rate via Smogon Conversation to the judges.
The deadline is February 12th @ 11:59PM GMT+1

Good luck to everyone!

:ss/grimmsnarl:
Grimmsnarl (M) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Spirit Break
- Thunder Wave

Decided to go for an HO Dark team so I started off with Grimmsnarl because its Prankster ability lets it get up priority screens. It's also able to cripple foes with Thunder Wave and deal decent damage with Spirit Break which also lowers the opponent's SpA, potentially giving an opening to one of its teammates.

:ss/mandibuzz:
Mandibuzz (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Defog
- Toxic

Added Mandibuzz next for hazard remover and a bulky pivot to deal with threatening Pokemon such as Excadrill, Scizor, and Cinderace. Heavy-Duty Boots allow Mandibuzz to safely pivot in even if Stealth Rock are up.

:ss/zarude:
Zarude @ Choice Band
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power Whip
- Close Combat
- Darkest Lariat
- U-turn

Choice Band Zarude is a pretty strong wallbreaker and shines against Water and Ground-type teams as it's able to 2HKO Toxapex and Landorus-T with Power Whip and OHKO Excadrill. It can also be useful against Steel-type teams that lack Skarmory thanks to the combination of Close Combat and Darkest Lariat.

:ss/urshifu:
Urshifu @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Drain Punch
- Wicked Blow
- Sucker Punch
- U-turn

Urshifu is a staple on Dark-type teams thanks to its good offensive typing and its signature move Wicked Blow which always results in a critical hit. A Choice Scarf was added to let Urshifu revenge kill more easily and potentially catch opponents off guard if they're expecting a different set.

:ss/tyranitar:
Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

Dragon Dance Tyranitar was the next choice to take advantage of Grimmsnarl's Screen support. EdgeQuake coverage is able to hit nearly anything for at least neutral damage and Fire Punch hits Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Celesteela for super effective damage. Lum Berry is the item of choice because it comes in handy against Pokemon that would inflict status on Tyranitar such as Rotom-W, Amoonguss, and Toxapex.

:ss/moltres-galar:
Moltres-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Berserk
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Hurricane
- Fiery Wrath
- Agility

The last Pokemon on the team is Galarian Moltres and it also capitalizes off of Grimmsnarl's support thanks to its access to Nasty Plot and Agility giving it the potential to sweep. Heavy-Duty Boots ensures that Moltres doesn't take Stealth Rock damage if Mandibuzz isn't able to get them off.
