Mamoswine + Lapras
Tag : CCS2Ic4
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1550+
Gold: 1400+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1200+
Mamoswine - Arguably the best Pokemon that Ice teams can have. Mamoswine can fulfill a role as a stealth rock lead, wallbreaker, or even rarely speed control. As a lead Mamoswine is able to use its ability in Oblivious to stop opposing Pokemon from taunting it, guarenteeing Stealth Rocks against nearly every team. Using Endeavor along with Ice shard also allows it to KO faster leads that lack priority. As a wallbreaker, Mamoswine uses its stellar offensive typing to use its dual STAB attacks in Icicle Crash and Earthquake along with Superpower or Knock off as coverage option while also packing Ice shard to revenge kill Pokemon like Landorus and weakened flying types. Finally as speed control it runs the same moves but with a choice scarf, allowing it to outspeed some of its checks while also allowing Piloswine to be run as a rocker or let another Pokemon run a different set. Overall, mamoswine is a pokemon that can do anything that the type needs and can fit on every team imaginable.
Lapras - While this Pokemon has fallen from grace since its original spike in usage. It is still able to do what it was able to do back then. As a specs wallbreaker it is one of the few Mega Scizor checks that Ice has (assuming no superpower) and also uses its strong water STAB to break through opposing fire types. HP fire is used to beat Mega Scizor and also helps against steel types like ferrothorn. While it may still be underwhelming compared to options like Rotom-wash and Walrein, Lapras can still do its job and offer up some nice gimmicks if you choose to run them.

Fire

Entei + Heatran

Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1550+
Gold: 1400+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1200+
Entei - While it is rarely seen on fire teams, it has a niche that makes it a very dangerous threat to some teams. Its powerful combo in Choice Band Sacred Fire in Sun and access to Extreme Speed allow it to perform excellently as a wall breaker for the type. With the ability to OHKO Mega Sableye and Mandibuzz in Sun as well as 2HKO Porygon2 with an eviolite on in the Sun, this Pokemon can be extremely hard to switch into for some teams. Its access to Extreme Speed allows it to pick off weakened threats when the Sun is not availible to wallbreak with, which can be immensely useful to potentially check Azumarill after a belly drum (it is a 64% chance). While these niches are nice it is still outclassed by more splashable and less sun dependent options such as Infernape. Despite this, it can still be a very dangerous threat when it is under the sun, and fire teams can fit it in with the proper support.
Heatran - Heatran is one of the most important pokemon a fire team could have, as it helps check threats like nihilego, mega-diancie, and many others. Its ability to act as a stealth rocker, specially defensive wall, or trapper all allow it to function very well on fire teams. While it may never be a lead Pokemon, it is always able to find an opportunity to set rocks thanks to its useful typing and defensive qualities. As a specially defensive wall it can easily check the previously mentioned threats along with the ability to harass incoming walls with Toxic, making it useful in the flying matchup if Toxic is used with Earth Power. Finally as a trapper it finds itself functioning similarly to how it functions on steel, running magma storm and taunt to trap walls and eliminate them. I does not need Stone Edge unlike steel due to other Pokemon being able to revenge kill volcarona, but it can still use it if needed. Overall, Fire always appreciates a heatran on their team, even if it doesn't serve an extremely offensive role.

SUPER CORE CHALLENGE
As of Cycle 4 there will be a Super Core Challenge Held at the beginning and end of every cycle. These challenges will require you to reach a peak elo of 1650+ with two very niche or underused Pokemon in less the time of a normal cycle. These pokemon may not work well together some times, but that makes the challenge even more exciting! The winner of this core (the first person to post a replay of them reaching this peak with this core) will get 5 additional points for the Cycle rankings. Have Fun!

This weeks super core is:

Peak needed to win: 1650+

Note: This project is now lead by Namranan and cohosted by Perish Song. So now all questions and suggestions regarding to CLC should be directed towards us now and not Illama, the former leader.

To register to participate in a core challenge, you must reply to this forum with the proper information to be eligible! See the example post below for details. This also applies for submitting peaks (with that said please keep all of your information onto 1 post)! Otherwise, refer to the Index Thread for the official rules and info on this project. Please make sure to post replays of your Hall of Fame Rankings, failure to do so will result in your post being ignored.

In order to win this challenge, one player must obtain the highest ladder peak with the given core. In order to be eligible for winning the challenge you have to either post a replay of your peak (Highest elo reached) or take a screenshot of your accounts highest rank on ladder. The person with the highest rank at the end of the week is the winner of the challenge and will get posted in a new hall of fame in the Index thread along with the team they were using. If you win, please PM the team to Perishing Song or Namranan along with a brief description of the team and how you got the elo you got to. (Replays are much appreciated)

Remember to keep track of your Win/Loss ratio because the person with the best ratio out of 30 games can get a shoutout after the challenge has ended. To submit your Win/Loss ratio just take a screenshot of your record and post it in your registration. The team with the best record will be added to its own Hall of Fame. That being said, if you win the challenge you must PM Namranan or Perishing Song your team with a brief description of how it works. If you do this even without winning you will still have your team posted in an honorable mentions section. You get 1 extra point this cycle if you submit your team.

Also as a slight sidenote, as this is the last Challenge of this cycle I think it is time I announce my retirement from this project. As of Cycle 5 Starblim will be the new host of Monotype Core Laddering Challenge! It was a pleasure to do this project and I hope all of you who participated in one of them had a great time doing so.

For the last time from me, have fun!
