Tentacruel - Tentacruel is an extremely hard to fit Pokemon on water teams in this generation. In prior generations its typing allowed it to serve well as a switch in to toxic spikes and was generally a good defensive Pokemon. With the introduction of Toxapex, Tentacruel completely lost this niche as a defensive Pokemon on Water. However it has one tiny miniscule nearly microscopic niche in its ability to do some minor role compression that water greatly appreciates. It's ability to Rapid Spin, Haze, Check Tapu Bulu, and punish Leech Seed users like Venusaur with Liquid Ooze gives it a tiny role that allows for more Pokemon on water to be run. It also allows more offensive teams to be created without being forced to make it a rain team, which water has Pokemon that are able to thrive now that they are given the slot, such as the mon partnered with Tentacruel. That being said, its obvious that this thing is not used anymore thanks to its lack of recovery and not so stellar bulk, but its tiny niche allows it to function on more offensive builds.
Manaphy - Manaphy has been seen before on CLC, but has since caught more traction on both offensive and balance teams. Manaphy's ability to break down walls with its move in Tail Glow as well as being a very bulky Pokemon in general allow it to work really well on almost any archetype, its main problem is its speed and the amount of teamslots water needs. Thankfully, its partner helps with this very issue.

Tentacruel - Wait didn't we just talk about this mon? In all seriousness though tentacruel pretty much suffers the same fate here that it did with water, except now it doesn't even have the niche of helping with Tapu Bulu, because there are other options on poison that do that as well. So what makes it worth using over Toxapex on Poison? Well also similar to water, Tentacruel provides role compression in being a defensive mon for poison, while also providing Rapid Spin, allowing Crobat to use a more offensive set. Its essentially toxapex but wihout recovery and with rapid spin, and while this niche isn't as valuable as the one it has on water, it is still appreciated on poison teams, and certain builds can support using this mon.
Gengar - Once again this mon has appeared in the Core Laddering Challenge before, and it still functions the same. A reliable revenge killer with spinblocking capability as well as being able to run more gimmicky Substitute sets. All in all, it is still a solid mon and can work well with Tentacruel.

Note: This project is now lead by Namranan and cohosted by Perish Song. So now all questions and suggestions regarding to CLC should be directed towards us now and not Illama, the former leader.

To register to participate in a core challenge, you must reply to this forum with the proper information to be eligible! See the example post below for details. This also applies for submitting peaks (with that said please keep all of your information onto 1 post)! Otherwise, refer to the Index Thread for the official rules and info on this project. Please make sure to post replays of your Hall of Fame Rankings, failure to do so will result in your post being ignored.

In order to win this challenge, one player must obtain the highest ladder peak with the given core. In order to be eligible for winning the challenge you have to either post a replay of your peak (Highest elo reached) or take a screenshot of your accounts highest rank on ladder. The person with the highest rank at the end of the week is the winner of the challenge and will get posted in a new hall of fame in the Index thread along with the team they were using. If you win, please PM the team to Perishing Song or Namranan along with a brief description of the team and how you got the elo you got to. (Replays are much appreciated)

Remember to keep track of your Win/Loss ratio because the person with the best ratio out of 30 games can get a shoutout after the challenge has ended. To submit your Win/Loss ratio just take a screenshot of your record and post it in your registration. The team with the best record will be added to its own Hall of Fame. That being said, if you win the challenge you must PM Namranan or Perishing Song your team with a brief description of how it works. If you do this even without winning you will still have your team posted in an honorable mentions section. You get 1 extra point this cycle if you submit your team.

Have Fun!

Can I participante? How do I do it?
1. Build a team featuring the listed Pokemon.
2. Use that team on Pokemon Showdown with the alt CCS2Wa4 [blank] (Water) and CCS2Po4 [blank] (Poison).
3. Play 30 games in total.
4. When/if you hit 1250 with either type, post a link to the replay of you hitting at least 1250. Press Upload and Share Replay, and copy the url. Do the same again if/when you hit 1350, 1475 and 1650.
5. Post a screenshot of the highest point in the ladder you got. You can find out your rank by typing /rank in any room or even in a battle. You can copy screenshots with either the Print Screen button (Windows) or Command + Shift + 3 (Mac). I don't know about IOS and Android. You can then copy it into Paint and crop out the section you want.
6. After playing 30 games, post your Win / Loss ratio. Again, type /rank to find this out.
