Base Stats: 55 HP / 90 Atk / 80 Def / 50 SpA / 105 SpD / 96 Spe
Ability: Disguise
Notable Moves:
  • Bulk Up
  • Drain Punch
  • Play Rough
  • Shadow Claw
  • Shadow Sneak
  • Swords Dance
  • Wood Hammer
  • Trailblaze
Pros:
  • Disguise allows Mimikyu to take any one hit (barring Pokemon with Mold Breaker), allowing it to act as an effective one-time check to a large swath of offensive Pokemon. Disguise also allows Mimikyu a free setup opportunity against slower Pokemon, which can give it the Attack boosts needed to break through them.
  • Mimikyu's Ghost typing gives it invaluable Normal and Fighting immunities, allowing it to switch into two of the most dangerous Pokemon in the tier in Extreme Killer Lucario and Choice Specs Boomburst Noivern.
  • Mimikyu's STABs provide excellent neutral coverage, only being resisted by Grafaiai (and Pyroar).
  • Mimikyu has access to a priority STAB option in Shadow Sneak to allow it to revenge KO or clean.
  • Wood Hammer is an effective lure to Quagsire, one of the most splashable checks to Attack-boosting Pokemon.
  • Mimikyu's natural Speed allows it to outspeed several important offensive Pokemon, such as Slither Wing, Lucario, and Azumarill.
Cons:
  • Mimikyu has truly pitiful physical bulk, meaning that it will crumple to almost any strong physical hit once its Disguise is broken. Its special bulk, while better, is also not good.
  • Mimikyu is dependent on its Disguise being intact to function effectively in most circumstances, preventing it from being used early on in games.
  • While Mimikyu's Speed is decent, it is still outsped by many offensive Pokemon, such as Hydreigon, Haxorus, Salamence, and Pawmot, forcing it to use Swords Dance before taking them on and have Disguise intact if it has any hope of winning 1v1.
  • Mimikyu is totally blanked by the popular Unaware Quagsire if it does not carry Wood Hammer, forcing Mimikyu to wait for Quagsire to be removed before Mimikyu can set up.
  • Mimikyu's relatively low base Attack can cause it to come up short of scoring KOs, especially if its Life Orb has been removed, it does not have a Swords Dance boost, or the opponent has significant physical bulk.
  • While functioning similarly to Substitute, Disguise does not block status, making Mimikyu very vulnerable to burns and paralysis.
  • Mimikyu depends on Life Orb to threaten many Pokemon, which causes it to wear itself down with each attack. This, in combination with the damage Mimikyu takes upon Disguise being broken, and various forms of passive damage, means that Mimikyu's longevity is quite poor, and can cause it to KO itself if played around appropriately.
Terastalizing Potential:
  • Tera Ghost boosts the power of Mimikyu's Ghost STABs, most importantly making Shadow Sneak effectively 60 Base Power, and allowing Mimikyu to more effectively threaten faster Pokemon.
Potential Sets:
Life Orb + Swords Dance
Mimikyu @ Life Orb
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Shadow Claw / Wood Hammer
- Play Rough

The standard Life Orb + Swords Dance sweeping set. Use Disguise to give Mimikyu setup or switch-in opportunities, and then cause as much damage as possible. Depending on the team structure, Mimikyu can opt for either Shadow Claw or Wood Hammer. If Quagsire is effectively dealt with elsewhere, Mimikyu appreciates the stronger STAB option in Shadow Claw. Wood Hammer can instead be used to lure and OHKO Quagsire, while also hitting certain other Pokemon much harder than Mimikyu's STABs, such as Hippowdon, Gastrodon, and Azumarill.

Other Options
  • Bulk Up + Drain Punch on a Leftovers set could be used to allow Mimikyu to not be taken out as easily while it attempts to sweep. This set lacks immediate power, however, and does nothing to fix Mimikyu's middling Speed for an offensive Pokemon.
  • Trailblaze could be used instead of Wood Hammer to boost Mimikyu's Speed while still threatening Quagsire. This has only a 2% chance to 2HKO a fully physically bulky Quagsire from full HP, however, and is much weaker than Wood Hammer, making it less effective against almost all other targets.

One of my favorite pokemon in UU. While it may not be the fastest or strongest, Disguise is one of the best abilities in the game. It is able to check some the most dangerous pokemon in the tier such as Gengar, Polteageist and Amarouge. It pairs really well with Magnezone and is able to sweep a lot more easily with the Steels removed. MImikyu also has some cool move options like Pain Split, Will-O-Wisp and Taunt..
