Mew [0/2]

[Overview]

Mew is one of the most polarizing setup sweepers in the tier. Its unparalleled movepool gives it unique access to Cosmic Power, Stored Power, Taunt, and reliable recovery, which when combined with its good natural bulk and serviceable Special Attack make Mew capable of easily snowballing versus stall and offense alike. However, because Mew is so reliant on accumulating several boosts in order to actually sweep, Pokémon with Trick and a Choice item like Tapu Fini put it out of commission. Faster Pokémon with either Taunt or Toxic like Tornadus-T also give Mew a hard time. In addition, Mew struggles to fit Body Press, so it is usually shut down by Dark-types like Weavile; however, it is worth mentioning that some like Moltres-Galar rely on landing timely critical hits so as to not get PP stalled by Mew.

[SET]
name: Cosmic Power
move1: Cosmic Power
move2: Stored Power
move3: Taunt
move4: Roost
item: Weakness Policy
ability: Synchronize
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Cosmic Power boosts both of Mew’s defenses by 1 stage, raising Stored Power’s power and making Mew difficult to kill in tandem with its good 100/100/100 bulk. Stored Power is this set’s best attacking move; it becomes a 260 Base Power move if Mew has boosted to +6 in both defenses, allowing Mew to effortlessly sweep unprepared teams in spite of its meager Special Attack. Taunt allows Mew to ignore slower Taunts and Toxics and generally abuse passive Pokémon like Toxapex and Clefable. Body Press can be run to hit Dark-types like Weavile, but without Taunt Mew becomes much easier for a plethora of other Pokémon to handle defensively. Roost gives Mew a form of reliable recovery, compounding how difficult it is to kill. Weakness Policy synergizes with Stored Power and abuses Mew’s ability to live almost any one hit after one or two Cosmic Powers, especially if supported by dual screens. Most notably, it allows Mew to beat Choice Specs Dragapult by clicking Cosmic Power on the switch, allowing Dragapult to proc Weakness Policy, and OHKOing Dragapult with a 140 BP Stored Power. Max speed and a Timid nature allow Mew to speed tie other base 100 Speed Pokémon, while max HP makes Mew as bulky as possible without sacrificing any Speed.

If not running Body Press, Mew is shut down by Dark-types, so teammates that can punish Dark-types are greatly appreciated. Physically defensive Flame Body Heatran is a premier teammate for this set, as it is practically guaranteed to burn any Weavile that goes for Triple Axel. Dragapult helps overwhelm Dark-types with its powerful Choice Specs-boosted Draco Meteors and pivots on walls that Mew can exploit, such as the aforementioned Toxapex and Clefable. Colbur Berry Slowbro is not terribly effective as a lure because of how common it is, but it can still sometimes lure Weavile and OHKO with Body Press. In addition, since Mew hates being put on a timer by Toxic, Pokémon that can circumvent status like Tapu Fini and Aromatherapy Clefable are good teammates.

Body Press can be run over Taunt to hit Dark-types like Weavile, but without Taunt Mew becomes much easier for a plethora of other defensive Pokémon to handle defensively via Toxic or Haze (just being a bit more clear helps demonstrate why Taunt is better). Roost gives Mew a form of reliable recovery, compounding how difficult it is to kill. (no need to explain recovery) Weakness Policy synergizes with Stored Power and abuses Mew’s ability to live almost any one hit after one or two Cosmic Powers, especially if supported by dual screens. Max Speed and a Timid nature allow Mew to speed tie other base 100 Speed Pokemon like Volcarona and Galarian Zapdos, while max HP makes Mew as bulky as possible without sacrificing any Speed.

In addition, since Mew hates being put on a timer by Toxic, Pokemon that can help it circumvent status like Tapu Fini and Aromatherapy Clefable are good teammates. (There are other teammates that you can mention, especially since you focus so much on what to do if not running Body Press. Corviknight switches into lando-t's toxic freely and can keep entry hazards off the field for mew to stay relatively healthy before its sweep. Scizor performs similarly, though it comes with the drawback of getting chipped more easily. You mention Dual Screens support before, so you should note Regieleki and Tapu Koko as potential teammates that benefit Mew by affording it easier setup opportunities. Galarian Slowking, while not super popular at the moment, can switch into Taunt/Toxic Torn and Tapu Fini.)
