Some interesting things:

Total battles: 9575 ;_;

| 32 | Cryogonal | 1338 | 6.991% | 1065 | 6.646% |

! Cryogonal finally getting the usage and love it deserves? Shouldn't be a surprise I guess, Cryo is fantastic in this meta, let's make it a goal to steal it from NU!

| 54 | Magmortar | 787 | 4.112% | 630 | 3.931% |
| 55 | Mandibuzz | 767 | 4.007% | 652 | 4.069% |
| 56 | Crustle | 761 | 3.976% | 671 | 4.187% |
| 57 | Quagsire | 714 | 3.730% | 624 | 3.894% |

This is really interesting, if the usage stats stay the same, Magmortar, Crustle, and Quagsire will all move up to RU.

Also what's up with the Mandibuzz drop? Has the meta shifted that much that no one uses it anymore? What would the reason for this be?

| 11 | Typhlosion | 2083 | 10.883% | 1738 | 10.846% |
| 28 | Moltres | 1476 | 7.712% | 1226 | 7.651% |

This is also really surprising to me, considering that Slowking is the number 2 most used Pokemon, and Typhlosion basically has no chance against it no matter the set, whereas Moltres may be able to beat it late-game.

| 5 | Drapion | 2702 | 14.117% | 2321 | 14.484% |
| 6 | Tangrowth | 2580 | 13.480% | 2231 | 13.922% |

Finally, this makes me incredibly happy and reflects the current meta perfectly.

This is really interesting, if the usage stats stay the same, Magmortar, Crustle, and Quagsire will all move up to RU.
Crustle is already RU.

No no no no no, do NOT steal Magmortar from NU. I spent far too long writing that damn analysis for it to be wasted. :(

I am personally more surprised at the Lead usage stats as Whimsicott is not being used more as it shuts down the top 3 leads and same with smeargle and steelix.

Actually Oglemi, I believe Sunnybeamer variants of Typhlosion can indeed beat Slowking :o

Granted they're hardly ever seen... But still.

Ok, I'm just gonna do some commentary on these stats. Granted, they don't mean much (everything outside of the top 10 is basically whatever ladder randoms felt like using).

Starting with #1, Cofagrigus was and continues to be a dominant force in the tier. However, it hasn't eclipsed 20% yet, meaning that our metagame is still pretty diverse. Most of them are the TR + NP set, however I think that either other sets will be used more or that Cofagrigus will just drop in usage. Drapion has risen a lot, and quite frankly everyone overprepares for it anyway.

Slowking is a friendly face at the top, or near the top. I also think its usage will go down a bit since Cofagrigus sets up on it with ease, and Moltres has dropped a fair bit. However, it still makes up the TanKing core with Tangrowth that everybody uses nowadays.

Sandslash is complete shit and I find it funny that it's almost #1. Seriously, anyone reading this should know that Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin isn't good when Sandslash can't take any hits to use them both in the first place. It's even worse than Claydol, and Claydol followed a similar situation for months. Honestly, if you've come to the point where you have to use Sandslash then it's bad teambuilding to be honest.

Entei has always been good, and deserves its spot. However, it's always been rather easy to play around since it kills itself easily between Flare Blitz recoil and hazards.

Drapion is a great Pokemon, and also deserves its spot. While I'm sure it originally rose due to the omnipresent Cofagrigus, everyone discovered how great the Taunt + SD set was and started using that.

Tangrowth; solid Pokemon, can't see this going anywhere but up. Personally I'd run Earthquake right now to deal with Drapion, since HP Fire doesn't do much to anything not named Ferroseed.

Hitmonchan is kinda meh, it's an okay spinner, but Foresight is pure shit on it. Really needs Pursuit support, and Ghosts everywhere don't help it at all. Has to make a difficult choice between Ice Punch and ThunderPunch, which is even more difficult now due to Slowking's high usage. Basically, it's shat on by Cofagrigus, Tangrowth, Entei, Drapion, and Slowking if it goes with Ice Punch. It's too high imo, especially when there's better spinners like Kabutops or Cryogonal.

Rotom is a prick as always, you never know what set it's running until it's too late. Some Trick you a Scarf, and other use Will-O-Wisp to cripple Spiritomb and Steelix. Its only downfall is that it only has 95 Sp. Atk, and is forced to run a Timid nature. About right imo.

I personally think that both Typhlosion and Galvantula are way to high, since Typhlosion isn't really that good compared to Moltres or Magmortar and is walled endlessly by Slowking. Galvantula is probably some players' attempt to beat TanKing, but it can't switch in to either of them. Always kinda lived in the shadow of Manectric really, which should be higher than it.

While Lanturn isn't bad, it's just a lot higher than it ought to be. Sure it checks Moltres once, and can kinda beat Slowking, but other than that it just sits there. The only set I would ever use is the RestTalk set, but I've seen none of those. Other than that, it's lack of recovery really lets it down since it's easily worn down by double switching and repeated attacks, while it doesn't do much in return.

Spiritomb dropped a ton and I have no idea why. CB Spiritomb is one of the better checks to most Ghosts and can trap Slowking. Plus, it has versatility to where CM RestTalk can set up on Tangrowth and Slowking, rendering the core useless.

I've never really liked Hitmonlee, since most of the things it can do are done better by Medicham, Hitmonchan, or even Sceptile. The one thing it does have going for it is Fake Out + Unburden, making it a revenge killer to stuff like Omastar, which is conveniently just below it. However, that's not a great set in its own right.

Aggron and Moltres at #26 and #27 is staggering. Both are some of the best Pokemon in the tier, and they're not even in the top 25. These things both deserve to be top 15 at least, maybe even top 10. Use LO Moltres, not Specs.

Dusknoir is pretty bad, it's only use is being a spinblocker that can counter Cryogonal. Other than that, it's outclassed in practically every way by Cofagrigus, Rotom, and Spiritomb.

Just beneath Dusknoir are the two best spinners in RU, Kabutops and Cryogonal. Cryogonal takes a slight edge, but Kabutops is great as well. Kabutops Adamant +2 LO Stone Edge OHKOes NP Cofagrigus after Stealth Rock, and Adamant +2 LO Aqua Jet OHKOes Rotom after Stealth Rock as well. There isn't a Ghost that Kabutops can't beat at +2, and then it's free to safely spin. It also synergizes well with Moltres.

Whimsicott and Archeops are both really bad, but I'm sure ladder randoms use them because they're good in theory or whatever. How can these things increase in usage?

Electivire also increased, but it's always been just okay. It has severe four-moveslot syndrome, but you have no idea exactly which moves it carries so it's always extremely hard to predict against.

Medicham deserves more usage; it's really powerful and has a cool secondary STAB to power through Ghosts. I've had success using CB, but other sets are great as well.

Mesprit is another head-scratcher. Just about all of its sets are completely outclassed by Uxie, but once again I'm sure ladder randoms use it because its page says "RU".

Poliwrath and Mandibuzz are too low as well. Poliwrath is a great utility counter to a lot of things like Entei, Drapion, and Feraligatr, and really hard to switch into because of Circle Throw. Its always had really cool typing as well. Mandibuzz is the best counter to Cofagrigus there is, and also checks Moltres, Sceptile, and Hitmonchan. Great stallbreaker as well, though it suffers from four moveslot syndrome.

Lastly, it should be Absol and not Quagsire that should be slated to come up. Absol is a lot better and has a wider niche than Quagsire, and Quagsire was always kinda outclassed by Poliwrath anyway.

Yeah, this post is horribly tl;dr, but I changed topics so much that it wouldn't even be worth posting one. Hopefully this can spark some discussion.

I'm gonna comment on some of your comments :3

Drapion is a great Pokemon, and also deserves its spot. While I'm sure it originally rose due to the omnipresent Cofagrigus, everyone discovered how great the Taunt + SD set was and started using that.

Definitely, Taunt+SD isnt even the only set it runs well, Omicron and myself both found CB Drapion to be a very solid way of beating Cofagrigus, as well as a good Pokemon in general, and defensive Drapion is a welcome choice on more stall oriented teams.

Tangrowth; solid Pokemon, can't see this going anywhere but up. Personally I'd run Earthquake right now to deal with Drapion, since HP Fire doesn't do much to anything not named Ferroseed.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more of him. I definitely agree with using Earthquake right now, although Rock Slide is also a viable choice to hit Moltres and Cryogonal hard. However, you could also go full physical with Power Whip and then threaten Cryo anyway.

Here's a hint to everybody. Use ToxicChan! Hitmonchan's fault has always been that there's always something common that beats it so using Toxic cripples these threats. I've been experimenting with a Toxic Subpuncher set recently and it can actually hold off Cofagrigus on its own long enough to wear it down with Toxic.

I'm guessing Lanturn rose to combat the rise of Manectric a while back and the subsequent rise of Typhlosion. It also counters itself with Toxic and Heal Bell, what a troll.

Spiritomb dropped a ton and I have no idea why. CB Spiritomb is one of the better checks to most Ghosts and can trap Slowking. Plus, it has versatility to where CM RestTalk can set up on Tangrowth and Slowking, rendering the core useless.

I personally stopped using Spiritomb because it was 100% fodder for Aggron to come in and smash something. It also can't beat Slowking without good prediction because Slowking only takes around 50% from Pursuit when not Banded, so Slowking can stall it out with Toxic.

As a proponent of Cryogonal since Round 0 I approve of this message. Kabutops is cool too.

Medicham deserves more usage; it's really powerful and has a cool secondary STAB to power through Ghosts. I've had success using CB, but other sets are great as well.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. CB is a ridiculous wallbreaker, Scarf is a solid revenge killer and I've used a Bulk Up set as a very solid sweeper. Medicham is an excellent Pokemon.

A not about the CB set, they always switch in their Ghost asap. Unless its Spiritomb Zen Headbutt for the 2HKO!

Echoing the sentiment about Poliwrath, it does really well against a ton of threats, countering the aforementioned Entei, Drapion and Feraligatr as well as Aggron and Crawdaunt. With Heal bell support its RestTalk set is very strong.
Sorry for the comments in quote :P

I really can't stand seeing these 3 absolutely great mons out of the top 15: Moltres, Aggron, Gallade.

Moltres is an awesome lead that gives trouble to both offensive and defensive teams if you manage to get a good match-up. His bulk is also fantastic, as he can easily survive one SB from NP Cofa and ohko back with Specs Fire Blast/Overheat. The only thing that holds him back is SR, which is understandable, since removing SR from the field can be quite difficult, BUT: 1. Moltres can still hold its weight even if you don't manage to remove SR quite often, and 2. Use Kabutops and Cryogonal to spin guys pls! As complete legitimacy mentioned SD LO Adamant Kabutops almost always spins, since he is so fucking brutal (beats every ghost), while also having good synergy with Moltres.

And Cryo is also an amazing and, quite strangely, versatile poke. It can run very effectively an offensive and 2 defensive sets, and all of them have different counters/checks. Except Rapid Spin and Recover, which are musts, and should be be put by default in Cryo's moveset when you chose him, the other 2 moves, along with the EV spread are up for grabs. For example while many people say that Dusknoir is the only ghost able to spin-block against Cryo, this is not true in the slightest. The only set that Dusknoir can spin-block against is the specially defensive set with Ice Beam and Toxic, and even against this set, you will get worn down quite fast with Toxic and hazards damage, as a poke without reliable recovery can only last for that much.

Now let's see Cryo's other sets... It can run a physically defensive set with Reflect and Ice Beam (or even Toxic and Reflect if you are crazy enough) to become impossible to take down from the physical side without super effective STAB attacks, which enables Cryo to easily beat it's biggest nemesis, 4 attacks Spiritomb, while also supporting the team very good with Rapid Spin and Reflect. And it also beats defensive Dusknoir, which fails to do any significant damage back while you can simply Toxic stall him. It can also run a very deadly offensive set with Ice Beam + HP Ground + Life Orb, which allows him to be a a fast and powerful attacker, an amazing spinner, and a good special tank, all in one set. CB Spiritomb is easily 2hkoed, and this means that if you win the ''attack or switch out'' mindgame, you spin. It also easily 2hkoes SubPunch Dusknoir after SR, and 3hkoes defensive Dusknoir, which cannot ohko back, so you win. Any other ghost is easily 2hkoed with Ice Beam.

Aggron is a very good poke, that has very good resistances and is one of the scariest offensive pokes in the tier, especially with Gligar and Claydol leaving from the tier. The CB set is as amazing as ever, as almost nothing can avoid the 2hko in the tier, but it has difficulties switching in. Another interesting set that i haven't seen anyone using, but is quite effective is EB Aggron. It fakes the choice item quite good, and at the right moment, it kills the opponent's Ferroseed/Magneton/Steelix that were thinking that you were choice locked into Head Smash, opening the way for a sweeper of your choice. Ah it can fit SR in its moveset too, since Head Smash/EQ and Fire Punch are all you need, but you must not use it early game if you want to successfully lure your target for obvious reasons.

Finally Gallade! Oh my god how much i love Gallade!!! Awesome design, awesome typing, awesome movepool, awesome stat spread, what's not to love? It seems that everybody is still stuck in using the BU set, which every team nowadays is prepared for, and this is why people don't use him, as they think this is Gallade's best set. Well guess what, Gallade gets SD too. And it doesn't have to go full offensive to use it, letting him easily revenge killed after he kills something with CC. He can get both incredible power and amazing bulk, all in one. Simply use bulky SD Gallade with Drain Punch. No special revenge killer can revenge kill you if you manage to stay healthy (not difficult at all), and if they try to, simply kill them with DP, and watch your health going from red all the way to green again. So if most Scarfers are covered, what about slower mons, meaning sturdy physical walls? I will just say 3 words, and if you have enough fantasy, figure the rest on your own: Zen Headbutt, Leaf Blade, Lum Berry

Also complete legitimacy, Lanturn is an awesome poke, but people are misusing him. As you said RestTalk is quite effective, as it is one of the few pokes left in BW that are able to use such a strategy due to Heal Bell, while still being quite effective at stopping threats even with only one attack (Discharge/Scald). Another use Lanturn has is as a bulky pivot for offensive teams. Lanturn has very good special bulk even uninvested, and having a poke that heals when hit by Volt Switch is a godsend in a tier where Manectric and Galvantula are so common. Also Lanturn has amazing offensive dual STABs, as the little washing machine has proved to us, which means that with Ice Beam as a coverage move, he can 2ho most pokes found on an offensive team, allowing him to easily build up pressure, and use Volt Switch to bring in safely your precious frail sweepers. Also it is funny how many guys take for granted that their CB Aggron outspeeds Lanturn, only to get outsped and ohkoed by Surf.
The most used set, meaning the defensive one with 3 attacks and Heal Bell, is the worst of the sets that Lanturn can run, and i would never run it without Wish support, and this explains why many people don't find Lanturn so useful. If you want Lanturn to be defensive, you need either the RestTalk set or Wish support. If you need Lanturn on an offensive team, please put SpA and Speed evs on him, don't simply use him as a special wall to help your team, since he will fail to wall the special attacker that he should, and he will take all the momentum away from you, which is bad when you have an offensive team.

Anyway sry for the big rant, but there are simply too many things in RU that are wrong, because people don't play it much, and should be cleared out.

EDIT: Oh and Sandslash is the worst spinner in RU and should die! I don't even consider him as a spinner... Drop to NU already pal, we don't need you.

I'll comment too. Good post!

People need to think outside of the box with Cofagrigus. Standard OTR Cofag with HP Fighting is what everyone uses, but defensive Cofagrigus is still usable and blocks Rapid Spin better. Also people need to start using HP Ground to hit Drapion ;p

Slowking is a friendly face at the top, or near the top. I also think its usage will go down a bit since Cofagrigus sets up on it with ease, and Moltres has dropped a fair bit. However, it still makes up the TanKing core with Tangrowth that everybody uses nowadays.
Slowking is such an important Pokemon in RU, I doubt its usage will drop. Nothing takes Moltres and Typhlosion better than Slowking, and it's also an excellent check to other special sweepers such as Omaster (with Thunder Wave). The TanKing combo is also too good to forget about. Also, Psyshock is the most useful set on Slowking, as it annihilates Roselia and Cryogonal!!

Sandslash is definitely outclassed by other spinners, and is probably being used because it checks Drapion, Entei, Klinklang, etc. I think that this is another Pokemon that requires you to think outside of the box. I faced Celsius' Swords Dance + Lum Berry Sandslash, and it took out my Ghost-type without a problem, allowing it to get a Rapid Spin off. It has potential

Tangrowth; solid Pokemon, can't see this going anywhere but up. Personally I'd run Earthquake right now to deal with Drapion, since HP Fire doesn't do much to anything not named Ferroseed.
Again, people have a linear way of thinking when it comes to Tangrowth (using mainly the offensive set). I've been using a SubSeed set with HP Fighting for Bouffalant, Steel-types, and other stuff, and it's really good at forcing switches and countering solid physical attackers.

Scarf + WoW makes it even more of a guessing game :p. And yeah, this is one of the worst spinblockers in RU, but luring Cryogonal and Tricking it a Scarf will severely limit Cryogonal's abilities. Add another Ghost and Cryogonal won't be spinning any time soon.

I totally agree. The only good Typhlosion set is the one in Sun with Solar Beam, because it beats Slowking. Too bad weather is an unreliable strategy. Galvantula is garbage, totally outclassed by Manectric. It has a tough time against Steelix, and is weak to Stealth Rock.

Yeah Lanturn doesn't do much. It's really good on paper because it counters a bunch of stuff including Manectric, but in reality it's just bad. Heal Bell is kinda annoying, but that's about it.

complete legitimacy said:
Spiritomb dropped a ton and I have no idea why. CB Spiritomb is one of the better checks to most Ghosts and can trap Slowking. Plus, it has versatility to where CM RestTalk can set up on Tangrowth and Slowking, rendering the core useless.
Spiritomb's lack of reliable recovery is what hinders it the most. It just gets worn down too easily while the opposing team recovers off the damage it dealt (Cryo with Recover, Slowking with Regenerator, etc.).

Aggron and Moltres at #26 and #27 is staggering. Both are some of the best Pokemon in the tier, and they're not even in the top 25. These things both deserve to be top 15 at least, maybe even top 10. Use LO Moltres, not Specs.
This is pretty surprising tbh. Aggron barely has any counters and it even puts dents in those counters which is really useful on offensive oriented teams. It can come in on stuff like Cryogonal and Mandibuzz, and get off a free Head Smash. Moltres, while countered by the #2 most used Pokemon, can still destroy any unprepared team, and, like Aggron, dents the opponent's team.

complete legitimacy said:
Dusknoir is pretty bad, it's only use is being a spinblocker that can counter Cryogonal. Other than that, it's outclassed in practically every way by Cofagrigus, Rotom, and Spiritomb.
Like I mentioned in my comment on Rotom, pairing this with another Ghost-type is pretty effective. It becomes insanely hard for the opponent to spin if you run two Ghost-types, and Dusknoir + something like Cofagrigus beats all of the Rapid Spinners (including Foresight users ;)).

complete legitimacy said:
Whimsicott and Archeops are both really bad, but I'm sure ladder randoms use them because they're good in theory or whatever. How can these things increase in usage?
STOP USING WHIMSICOTT. It's such a bad mon. The only thing it's good for is Stun Spore. These two Pokemon look GREAT on paper, but really suck. For Whimsicott, Encore is easily played around by switching, and Leech Seed is useless against the abundance of Grass-types. Archeops doesn't have any really good counters outside of Steelix and Rhydon :o... but it still sucks. Its weakness to Stealth Rock and the good amount of priority and Choice Scarf users makes it useless.

complete legitimacy said:
Electivire also increased, but it's always been just okay. It has severe four-moveslot syndrome, but you have no idea exactly which moves it carries so it's always extremely hard to predict against.
Weak mon.

Poliwrath will most likely rise. Not so sure why Mandibuzz is so low, it's probably because its weakness to Stealth Rock turns many 3HKOs into 2HKOs. It's still a great mon :<
