[Overview]

Mandibuzz's typing separates it from other defensive Flying-types through its ability to check Dragapult. Its great bulk and access to Roost also allow it to check common threats like Rillaboom and Kartana. It is a good Defog user, with Foul Play pressuring common Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T and defensive Garchomp, although it loses to them in the long run due to their moves like Toxic and Knock Off. Foul Play also discourages physical wallbreakers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult, and Excadrill from setting up. Since it is reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots, Pokemon that it otherwise reliably checks, like Kartana and Rillaboom, can pressure it more effectively after using Knock Off. Due to the number of threats it can check, it can often be overwhelmed during the course of a match, which forces it to use Roost very often. Its reliance on Foul Play to check certain threats can leave it rather passive as well.

[SET COMMENTS]

Mandibuzz operates best as a mixed defensive Pokemon to check a plethora of threats like Rillaboom, Kartana, and Dragapult. Foul Play enables it to threaten Swords Dance users like Garchomp, Rillaboom, Excadrill, and Kartana while also discouraging them from setting up. Roost gives it longevity to better check threats like Dragapult and Choice Band Rillaboom, which would easily overwhelm Mandibuzz otherwise. U-turn lets it keep up momentum and pivot out on its checks like Kyurem and Tapu Koko to safely bring in its teammates. Knock Off can be a good choice instead to immediately punish its switch-ins. The EVs are used to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult and two Smart Strikes from Choice Band Kartana. The remaining EVs are put into Speed to outspeed Azumarill.

Landorus-T makes a good partner, since it can help alleviate pressure by covering physical threats like Excadrill and Garchomp that Mandibuzz can struggle with. Mandibuzz can also do the same for Landorus-T by checking offensive Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom. Similarly, Slowking can handle special threats that Mandibuzz can struggle with, like Nidoking and Tapu Lele. Mandibuzz also offers Slowking a switch-in to Ghost-type moves from threats like Dragapult. Mandibuzz's ability to lure in Tapu Koko and Kyurem and pivot on them can let Dragapult threaten a KO on them, and Dragapult also likes it switching into opposing Dragapult. Wallbreakers like Kyurem and Nidoking that have a difficult time switching in can take advantage of Mandibuzz's slow pivoting.

Mandibuzz with Toxic over Defog can work on teams with pre-existing forms of entry hazard control. This set is very good at annoying and punishing opposing Mandibuzz, Kyurem, Tapu Koko, and Zapdos, which can take advantage of it switching in. Whirlwind can be a good choice over U-turn to stop Mandibuzz from being setup fodder against sweepers like Volcarona, Tapu Fini, and Reuniclus. Taunt is also a good option over U-turn, since it can also prevent setup and stop Pokemon from setting entry hazards on Mandibuzz; it additionally allows Mandibuzz to win PP wars even though common entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes have more PP than Defog. However, without U-turn, Mandibuzz becomes a lot more passive and can be taken advantage of by Pokemon like Tapu Koko and Kyurem.

Checks and Counters
====

**Offensive Electric-types**: Offensive Electric-types like Zeraora and Tapu Koko can force out and pressure Mandibuzz very well with their STAB moves, and Tapu Koko can switch in for free, but Zeraora dislikes Foul Play.

**Offensive Ice-types**: Offensive Ice-types like Kyurem and Weavile can threaten to KO or set up on Mandibuzz, as they force it out and can find opportunities to switch in as it uses Defog. However, both of them dislike switching into Knock Off.

**Status**: Pokemon that Mandibuzz can check like Excadrill, Landorus-T, and defensive Garchomp often carry Toxic, which they can use as it pivots in, hurting its longevity. Toxic also forces it to use Roost more often, which can deplete its PP more quickly and give it less opportunities to use Defog. Other status conditions like burn and paralysis, especially from Dragapult, can hurt its ability to check threats as well. Status chip damage, along with weaker attacks like U-turn from the likes of Landorus-T and Rillaboom, can be enough to overwhelm Mandibuzz.

**Knock Off**: Some Pokemon that Mandibuzz is able to check like Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Kartana carry Knock Off, which is extremely detrimental because it can be left unable to wall certain threats after Stealth Rock damage.

[Overview]
  • Mandibuzz is one of the most reliable Defog users in the tier, being able to Defog on common Stealth Rock users like Hippowdon, Landorus-T and Heatran.
  • Its good typing and bulk allows it to check a plethora of threats in the current metagame like Kartana, Rillaboom, Landorus-T, and Dragapult, while also being able to pivot with U-turn.
  • Its access to Foul Play also discourages physical breakers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult and Excadrill from setting up.
  • Its ability Overcoat helps against chip damage from Sand, and Sleep moves and Stun Spore from the occasional Tangrowth and Amoonguss.
  • Despite its great bulk, it can often get its Heavy-Duty Boots knocked off during the course of a match, which can lead to it being put into the KO range of Pokemon it is supposed to check like Rillaboom and Kartana. Pretty sure it isn't just those two.
  • Due to the number of threats it can check it can often be overwhelmed during the course of a match.
  • Although it can use Defog on a lot of common Stealth Rock users, it can often be cripple by Toxic wielding ones like defensive Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Hippowdon.

[SET]
name: Defensive
move 1: Foul Play / Knock Off
move 2: Roost
move 3: Defog
move 4: U-turn / Toxic

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Mandibuzz acts as a great mixed defensive pokemon in the current metagame and can check a plethora of threats like Rillaboom, Kartana, and Excadrill.
  • Mandibuzz is also one of the tier's few Ghost resists and can help check one of the most prominent Ghost-types in the tier being Dragapult.
  • Foul Play enables it to threaten Swords Dance users like Rillaboom, Excadrill, and Kartana while also discouraging them from setting up.
  • Roost gives it longevity and allows it to better check threats.
  • U-turn lets it keep up momentum during a match and enables it to pivot out on its checks and safely bring in its teammates.
  • Knock Off can be a good choice over Foul Play too, since it can be used to remove items from its defensive switch ins and can be used to cripple the offensive threats that it can check.
  • Toxic over U-turn can also be useful since it can cripple its defensive switchins alongside Knock Off and can annoy opposing Mandibuzz as well.
  • The EVs on this set are made to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult and lets Mandibuzz outspeed Adamant Crawdaunt; the rest has been invested into HP and Defence to maximize its physical bulk.

  • Pokemon like Landorus-T make good partners since it can help alleviate pressure from Mandibuzz. It also covers physical threats like Zeraora and Garchomp that Mandibuzz can struggle with. Mandibuzz can also do the same for Landorus-T by covering offensive Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom.
  • Similarly, specially defensive walls or is it specifically Slowking, in which case don't say "Pokemon like" like Slowking also make good partners since it can handle special threats that Mandibuzz can struggle with special threats like Nidoking and Tapu Lele. Mandibuzz also offers Slowking a Ghost resist that can help with threats like Dragapult which Slowking often struggles with.
  • These three can form a Pivot spam core which pokemon like Swords Dance Garchomp and Choice Specs Kyurem can make use of, and abuse by using right opportunities to set up and sweep or fire off powerful Choice Specs boosted moves.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

  • A Defog less version of Mandibuzz can be used in teams with another Defog user or other forms of Hazard control with Toxic over Defog. This can be used to cripple common switch ins to Mandibuzz and it can be used to remove items from them as well. This set can be very good at annoying Dragapult, opposing Mandibuzz and Dragonite.
  • A set with 0 speed EVs, 116 defence EVs and 30 speed IVs can also be used since it can get a slower U-turn on opposing Mandibuzz while also being more physically bulky letting it check threats like Rillaboom and Kartana better. but you get a worse matchup against faster threats like Crawdaunt that the listed set outspeeds.
  • Perhaps Whirlwind could be mentioned here as well? It forces out setup sweepers that you can't pressure with Foul Play like Calm Mind Clefable and Nasty Plot Hydreigon.

Checks and Counters
====

**Offensive Electric-types**: Offensive Electric-types like Zeraora and Tapu Koko can pressure Mandibuzz very well with their STABs and can force it out while threatening a KO.

**Ice Types**: Add a point about Weavile and Kyurem.

**Toxic**: Some pokemon that Mandibuzz can check like Excadrill, Landorus-T and Hippowdon can often carry Toxic which can hurt its longevity and can often leave it crippled and unable to check threats like the aforementioned Excadrill and Dragapult. This is universal to all non- Poison and Steel types so is probably better off under Chip Damage.

**Knock Off users**: Some pokemon that Mandibuzz is able to check like Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Kartana carry Knock Off which can be extremely detrimental to Mandibuzz's longevity since it can be left unable to wall certain threats after Stealth Rock damage. This can be managed by Mandibuzz's ability to remove Stealth Rocks however it can still pressure Mandibuzz heavily.

**Chip Damage**: Chip damage like the previously mentioned Toxic, Stealth Rocks and U-turns from the likes of Rillaboom and Landorus-T can leave Mandibuzz weakened since it is not always able to use Roost and can often be forced out while trying to do so.

This is a nitpick, but you need 152 SpD to guarantee the listed benchmark: not 144. Not sure if the 8 extra Def does anything of note (doubtful, but double-check just in case)

252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor over 2 turns vs. 248 HP / 144 SpD Mandibuzz: 358-424 (84.6 - 100.2%) -- 6.3% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor over 2 turns vs. 248 HP / 156 SpD Mandibuzz: 355-420 (83.9 - 99.2%) -- not a KO

Also, be careful with the formatting: it's SpD, not SpDef

I think 248 HP / 172 Def / 32 SpD / 56 Spe Bold is worth mentioning in OO to improve ur MU vs things like Hawlucha, SD Kart, Exca etc. post-Knock if u don't mind only checking WispHex/WaveHex Pult; the listed SpD takes 2 Dracos from Boots/Lefties Pult after SR if ur boots have been knocked off. Also, when mentioning alternative Speed benchmarks in OO, it might also be worth mentioning 104 Spe, which outruns adamant TTar/Aegislash to Roost on the former's Stone Edge (CB does less than 50% on Roost turn) and switches into the latter and uses Foul Play/Roost before it can move a second time. The spreads for that would be 248 HP / 100 Def / 56 SpD / 104 Spe Calm (Bold equiv hits same stats but a spread with 4+ Def is hideous) or 248 HP / 124 Def / 32 SpD / 104 Spe Bold.

I think Clef is a weird 'mon to mention alongside Whirlwind bc Clef can very easily just use Moonblast, which deals more than 50% unboosted with Life Orb. Mention Reun instead.

When you mention Taunt in OO, I think it's worth being a bit more specific wrt why Taunt is useful vs hazard setters, as it might not be fully intuitive to a newer player who sees Defog and thinks "but it already controls hazards." Namely: SR/Spikes have more PP than Defog, so Taunt lets Mandibuzz win Defog wars with hazard setters. It also shuts down moves like Toxic and Leech Seed from Ferro/Toxic Hippo/Swampert/whatever, meaning they can't put you on a timer, spam hazards until you're forced to Roost, and double out on the Roost turn (say that in less words/one sentence instead of two, obviously).

I'm not sure how worthwhile it is to mention setup sweepers when talking about Taunt, but if you do, you need to be more specific about what it helps against. Most relevant setup attackers are faster than Mandibuzz, so you're not shutting them down (not to mention you already have Foul Play for SD users) and you need to be super careful around something like CM Clefable. Realistically, Taunt won't deal with much that's relevant in a 1v1 outside of BU Corv and Reuniclus (mostly reliable, tho depends a little on Focus Blast/Thunder RNG).

:ss/Mandibuzz:

[Overview]
  • Mandibuzz is one of the most reliable Defog users in the tier, being able to defog on common Stealth Rock users like Hippowdon, Landorus-T and Heatran. It's not really that great against Heatran. Regardless I wouldn't really say "most reliable" because a Knock Off and Toxic vulnerability can really hurt it a lot given the common use of these moves. It's more just that it has the ability to reliably get Defogs off since it has great bulk and longevity, along with having solid defensive utility to let it pressure common Stealth Rock setters in the tier.
  • Its good typing and bulk allows it to check a plethora of threats in the current metagame like Kartana, Rillaboom, Landorus-T, and Dragapult, while also being able to pivot with U-turn. I think I mention this in the set discussion, but emphasizing it as a rare Ghost-type resistance gives it a more valuable niche as a Defog user.
  • Its access to Foul Play also discourages physical breakers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult and Excadrill from setting up.
  • Its ability Overcoat helps against chip damage from Sand, and Sleep Powder / Stuns Spore from the occasional Tangrowth. I don't think this is really necessary for the overview, we want to focus more on it as a whole and Overcoat is more an amenity than anything major toward its appeal.
  • Despite its great bulk it can often get its Heavy-Duty Boots knocked off during the course of a match which can lead to it being put into the KO range of Rillaboom, Dragapult and Kartana. Changing this focus to be more along the lines of "Since it is reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots, Pokemon that it otherwise reliably checks like Kartana and Rillaboom can pressure it more effectively throughout the course of the match by using Knock Off."
  • Due to the number of threats it can check it can often be overwhelmed during the course of a match.

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Mandibuzz operates best as a great mixed defensive Pokemon in the current metagame and can check a plethora of threats like Rillaboom, Kartana, and Excadrill. You can add a Dragapult mention here.
  • Mandibuzz is also one of the tiers few Ghost resist and can help check one of the most prominent Ghost-types in the tier being Dragapult. This is better in the overview I think.
  • Foul Play enables it to threaten Swords Dance users like Rillaboom, Excadrill, and Kartana while also discouraging them from setting up.
  • Roost gives it longevity and allows it to more reliably check threats. like what
  • U-turn lets it keep up momentum during a match and let's it pivot out on its checks and safely bring in its teammates What checks does it invite in? I think it's also important to mention that
  • Knock Off can be a good choice over U-turn too since it can be used to remove items from its defensive switch ins and offensive threats that it can check. I personally feel like U-turn-less Mandibuzz is way too passive and really easy to take advantage of. I feel like as far as Knock Off goes it should probably be mentioned over Foul Play. I made that change and I would move this bullet point up next to Foul Play and explain more the opportunity costs between the two moves.
  • The EVs on this set are made to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult and lets Mandibuzz outspeed Adamant Crawdaunt; the rest has been invested into HP and Defence to maximize its bulk.
You can probably put your Overcoat bullet point in this section instead.

  • These three can form a Pivot spam core which pokemon like Swords Dance Garchomp and Choice Specs Kyuren can make use of, and abuse by using right opportunities to set up and sweep or fire off powerful Choice Specs boosted moves. What does "these three" mean? Landorus-T + Slowking + Mandibuzz? If so that kind of makes this section a bit bare bones because it doesn't really explore other kinds of compositions/combos you can make Mandibuzz work with, which I would find to be pretty important. Like the mentions themselves are fine but I feel like I'd just like to see a couple more yknow?

  • A Defog-less version of Mandibuzz can be used in teams with pre existing Defog users or other forms of Hazard control with Toxic over Defog. This can be used to punish common switch ins to Mandibuzz with an item removal or debilitating status respectively. and it can be used to remove items from them as well. This set can be very good at annoying Dragapult, opposing Mandibuzz and Dragonite. Cripple is too harsh of a word to describe it.
  • Whirlwind can be a good choice over U-turn as well since it can stop set up sweepers like Volcarona, Tapu Fini and Reuniclus that can use Mandibuzz as set up fodder. I personally don't think it's a great choice, especially over something that rids Mandibuzz of passivity. Otherwise it's just so easy to actually take advantage of for what's otherwise a situational
  • Taunt is also a good option over U-turn since it can also prevent possible Set Up sweepers and can prevent pokemon from setting up Hazards on it. Mention opportunity costs that come with this, because again U-turn is a move that rids Mandibuzz of a lot of passivity

**Offensive Ice-types**: Similarly, Offensive Ice-types like Weavile and Kyurem can also threaten a KO on Mandibuzz. Elaborate; can they take advantage of scaring Mandibuzz out? Can they take advantage of Mandibuzz's options to find a switch in opportunity?

**Toxic**: Some pokemon that Mandibuzz can check like Excadrill, Landorus-T and Hippowdon can often carry Toxic which can hurt its longevity and can often leave it crippled and unable to check threats like the aforementioned Excadrill and Dragapult.

[Overview]
  • Mandibuzz is a good Defog user in the tier, being able to defog away hazards reliably due to it's great bulk, good longevity due to roost and its defensive utility which allows it to pressure common Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T and Tyranitar. It 100% does not beat Tyranitar; a better example would be Garchomp.
  • Its unique defensive typing and great bulk allows it to reliably check common threats like Rillaboom, Kartana and also Dragapult due to it being a Ghost resistant pokemon which are rather scarce in the current metagame.
  • Its access to Foul Play also discourages physical breakers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult and Excadrill from setting up.
  • Since it is reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots, Pokemon that it otherwise reliably checks like Kartana and Rillaboom can pressure it more effectively throughout the course of the match by using Knock Off.

Sorry again for switching this spread, but QC likes this spread a bit better since it can take 2 CB Kartana Smart Strikes while still living 2 Dracos from Specs Pult.

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Mandibuzz operates best as a mixed defensive Pokemon in the current metagame and can check a plethora of threats like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult, and Excadrill.
  • Foul Play enables it to threaten Swords Dance users like Rillaboom, Excadrill, and Kartana while also discouraging them from setting up.
  • Roost gives it longevity and allows it to better check threats like Dragapult and Choice Banded Rillaboom which would easily overwhelm Mandibuzz otherwise threaten a 2HKO from their strong STABs after chip damage.
  • U-turn lets it keep up momentum during a match and lets it pivot out on its checks like Kyurem, and Tapu Koko to safely bring in its teammates.
  • Knock Off can be a good choice over U-turn too since it can be used to immediately punish its remove items from its switch ins by removing their item and offensive threats that it can check. However, Knock Off can make Mandibuzz rather passive and leaves it unable to pivot out of its checks which can make it easy to take advantage of.
  • The EVs on this set are used made to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult and lets Mandibuzz outspeed Adamant Crawdaunt; the rest has been invested into Defence to maximize its bulk. Update this bullet point to reflect the change above
  • Overcoat negates Sandstorm chip damage which can help it deal with Excadrill better, it also negates any powder moves like Sleep Powder or Stun Spore from the likes of Tangrowth and Amoonguss.

  • Pokemon like Landorus-T make good partners since it can help alleviate pressure from Mandibuzz. It also covers physical threats like Zeraora and Garchomp that Mandibuzz can struggle with. Mandibuzz can also do the same for Landorus-T by checking offensive Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom.

  • These three can form a Pivot spam core which pokemon like Swords Dance Garchomp and Choice Specs Kyuren can make use of, and abuse by using right opportunities to set up and sweep or fire off powerful Choice Specs boosted moves. You pretty much create a four Pokemon core with this bullet point which really throws me off and narrows the scope of Mandibuzz. I feel like it would be a lot more effective and generalized to just say that "Mandibuzz can safely pivot into [offensive threat] on [mandibuzz switch-in]".
  • Mandibuzz's ability to lure in Tapu Koko and Kyurem and U-turn on them can be very useful to Dragapult sinve it can threaten a KO on them and often force them out. Mandibuzz can also provide a defensive backbone to Dragapult which it really appreciates. What backbone? Again think about the execution and bring up examples. A safe switch-in to opposing Dragapult is super nice for example.
  • Due to Overcoat, Mandibuzz is able to fit well into Sand Teams, this is why pokemon like Hippowdon and Excadrill can pair well with Mandibuzz. It does fit well onto Hippowdon Sand cores but Overcoat is not really specifically why, it's just more of an amenity than anything else. Hippowdon also alleviates pressure in dealing with stuff like Garchomp and Mandibuzz provides a very good defensive switch-in for things like Rillaboom that take advantage of Hippowdon's inability to punish its switch-in outside of Toxic.

It's not just annoying but it's also just a good way to directly punish things like Tapu Koko, Zapdos, or Kyurem that might want to take advantage of its switch-in.
  • Whirlwind can be a good choice over U-turn as well since it can stop set up sweepers like Volcarona, Tapu Fini and Reuniclus that can use Mandibuzz as set up fodder.

[Overview]
Mandibuzz is a good Defog user in the tier, being able to defog away hazards reliably due to it's great bulk, good longevity due to roost and its defensive utility which allows it to pressure common Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T and Defensive Garchomp. Its unique rare Unique sounds nice but isn't actually true as it shares it with Moltres-G defensive typing and great bulk allows it to check common threats like Rillaboom, Kartana and Dragapult. Its access to Foul Play also discourages physical wallbreakers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult It seems repetitive to use the same three Pokemon in consecutive lines when there are other options for this like Garchomp, Dragonite, Scizor, and Landorus-T, and DD Pult isn't a common or very viable set and Excadrill from setting up. Since it is reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots, Pokemon that it otherwise reliably checks like Kartana and Rillaboom can pressure it more effectively throughout the course of the match by using Knock Off, which threatens it throughout the course of a match Knock Off only needs to be used once to pressure it. Due to the number of threats it can check it can often be overwhelmed during the course of a match. Although it can use Defog on a lot of common Stealth Rock users it can often be crippled by Toxic wielding ones like defensive Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Hippowdon.

Mandibuzz operates best as a mixed defensive Pokemon in the current metagame and can check a plethora of threats like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult, and Excadrill. Foul Play enables it to threaten Swords Dance users like Rillaboom, Excadrill, and Kartana while also discouraging them from setting up. Roost gives it longevity and allows it to better check threats like Dragapult and Choice Banded Rillaboom which would easily overwhelm Mandibuzz otherwise. U-turn lets it keep up momentum during a match and lets it pivot out on its checks like Kyurem, and Tapu Koko and safely bring in its teammates Knock Off can be a good choice over U-turn since it can be used to immediately punish from its switch-ins bybremoving their item. However, Knock Off can make Mandibuzz passive and leaves it unable to pivot out of its checks which can make it easy to take advantage of. Overcoat negates Sandstorm chip damage which can help it deal with Excadrill better, it also negates any powder moves like Sleep Powder or Stun Spore from the likes of Tangrowth and Amoonguss. The EVs on this set are used to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult and two Smart Strikes from Choice Banded Kartana. The rest has been put into Speed to outspeed Azumarill.

Pokemon like Landorus-T make good partners since they or is it just Landorus, in which case don't say "Pokemon like" can help alleviate pressure from Mandibuzz. It also covers physical threats like Zeraora and Garchomp that Mandibuzz can struggle with. Mandibuzz can also do the same for Landorus-T by checking offensive Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom. Similarly, Slowking also makes good partner since it can handle special threats that Mandibuzz can struggle with, like Nidoking and Tapu Lele. Mandibuzz also offers Slowking a Ghost-type switch-in that can help with threats like Dragapult which Slowking often struggles with. Mandibuzz's ability to lure in Tapu Koko and Kyurem and U-turn on them can be very useful to Dragapult sinve it can threaten a KO on them and often force them out. Mandibuzz can also offer a switch-in for opposing Dragapult. Hippowdon makes for a good teammate as well since it can alleviate pressure on Mandibuzz by checking Garchomp and Excadrill, Mandibuzz on the other hand checks offensive Grass-types like Rillaboom that take advantage of Hippowdon's inability to punish its Hippowdon punishes them switching in with Whirlwind switch ins, like Kartana and Rillaboom.

A Defog-less version of Mandibuzz can be used in teams with pre existing other Defog users You might not necessarily add Mandibuzz to a team after another Defogger or other forms of Hazard control with Toxic over Defog. This can be used to punish common switch ins to Mandibuzz with an item removal or debilitating status respectively. This set can be very good at annoying and punishing opposing Mandibuzz, Kyurem, Tapu Koko and Zapdos which can take advantage of its switch in. Whirlwind can be a good choice over U-turn as well since it can stop set up sweepers like Volcarona, Tapu Fini and Reuniclus that can use Mandibuzz as set up fodder. Taunt is also a good option over U-turn since it can also prevent possible Set Up sweepers and can prevent pokemon from setting up Hazards on it; and it allows Mandibuzz to win the pp wars since common Hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes have more pp than Defog. However, without U-turn Mandibuzz can become a lot more passive and can be taken advantage of by pokemon like Tapu Koko and Kyurem

Checks and Counters
====

**Offensive Electric-types Defensive Zapdos's Discharge has a chance to 2HKO while Foul Play does 20% max to it, saying specifically offensive is misleading.**: Offensive Electric-types like Zeraora and Tapu Koko can pressure Mandibuzz very well with their STABs and can force it out while threatening a KO. Zapdos should go here for the reasons I said already, and mention it dislikes losing its Heavy-Duty Boots

**Offensive Ice-types Ice-types aren't known for their defensive qualities, as the VR shows. Only Ninetales-A of the ranked Ice types isn't offensive, and it's too rare to need to specify offensive here**: Similarly, Offensive Ice-types like Weavile and Kyurem can also threaten a KO on Mandibuzz. They can also use Mandibuzz as set up fodder as they force it out and can find opportunities to switch in as Mandibuzz uses Defog.

**Toxic**: Some pokemon that Mandibuzz can check like Excadrill, Landorus-T and Hippowdon can often carry Toxic which can hurt its longevity and can often leave it crippled and unable to check threats like the aforementioned Excadrill and Dragapult. Again, I think it makes more sense to put this in Chip damage.

**Knock Off**: Some pokemon that Mandibuzz is able to check like Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Kartana carry Knock Off which can be extremely detrimental to Mandibuzz's longevity since it can be left unable to wall certain threats after Stealth Rock damage. This can be managed by Mandibuzz's ability to remove Stealth Rocks however it can still pressure Mandibuzz heavily.

**Chip damage**: Chip damage caused by Toxic, Stealth Rocks and U-turns from the likes of Rillaboom and Landorus-T The wording of this isn't great, it sounds like Rillaboom uses Stealth Rock and Toxic, you could put Landorus before U-turn and then after U-turn say "it and Rillaboom" perhaps can leave Mandibuzz weakened since it is not always able to use Roost and can often be forced out while trying to do so.

[Overview]
Mandibuzz is a good Defog user in the tier, being able to defog away hazards reliably due to it's great bulk, good longevity due to roost and its defensive utility from what? which allows it to pressure common Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T and Defensive Garchomp. i would argue that mandibuzz's main role in this tier is being one of the rare ghost resists as well as a very solid check to grass-types like rillaboom and kartana. i would really emphasize this in the first sentence rather than its mediocre ability to defog - it's pressured heavily by literally every rocker in the tier, whether it's knock or toxic or stone edge... you usually have to defog on forced switches from threats rather than coming in on these rockers like you've described. there are better birds whose main role is to defog like corviknight or even pivot torn Its unique defensive typing and great bulk allows it to check common threats like Rillaboom, Kartana and Dragapult. imo would switch the content in this sentence with the first Its access to Foul Play also discourages physical wallbreakers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult and Excadrill from setting up. Knock Off can be a good choice over U-turn since it can be used to immediately punish from its switch-ins by removing their item. (i split that sentence off into two, as it makes it better for the reader to understand and since knock off is slashed) However, Knock Off can make Mandibuzz passive and leaves it unable to pivot out of its checks which can make it easy to take advantage of. Overcoat negates Sandstorm chip damage which can help it deal with Excadrill better, it also negates any powder moves like Sleep Powder or Stun Spore Spore (spore is more common on amoonguss, so i would mention this instead of stun spore) from the likes of Tangrowth and Amoonguss. The EVs on this set are used to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult and two Smart Strikes from Choice Banded Kartana. The rest has been put into Speed to outspeed Azumarill.

Landorus-T makes a good partner since it can help alleviate pressure from Mandibuzz by covering physical threats like Zeraora (mention excadrill here instead of zeraora, as intimidate allows landot to reliable act as a check to excadrill too, so mandi is less pressured with that task; also dont mention zeraora here, as it makes it look like mandibuzz checks it, which it doesnt, as zera beats mandi) and Garchomp that Mandibuzz can struggle with. Mandibuzz's defensive typing separates it from other defensive Flying-types through its ability to check Dragapult. Its great bulk also allows it to check common threats like Rillaboom, (RC) and Kartana. It is also a good Defog user in the tier, being able to Defog away entry hazards reliably due to it's (RA) great bulk, good longevity due to Roost, (AC) and its defensive utility which allows it to pressure common Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T, (RC) and defensive Garchomp and can pressure them with using Foul Play, although it loses to them in the long term due to their moves like Toxic and Knock Off. Its access to Foul Play also discourages physical wallbreakers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Dragapult, (AC) and Excadrill from setting up. Since it is reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots, Pokemon that it otherwise reliably checks, (AC) like Kartana and Rillaboom, (AC) can pressure it more effectively throughout the course of the match by using Knock Off. Due to the number of threats it can check, (AC) it can often be overwhelmed during the course of a match. Its reliance on Foul Play to check certain threats can result in it being rather passive as well. It is rather high maintenance as well, (AC) as it needs to use Roost very often, since it is prone to becoming overwhelmed while trying to check certain threats like the previously mentioned Rillaboom and Kartana.

Mandibuzz's ability to lure in Tapu Koko and Kyurem and U-turn on them can be very useful to Dragapult, (AC) since it can threaten a KO on them and often force them out. Mandibuzz can also offer a switch-in for opposing Dragapult. Wallbreakers like Kyurem and Nidoking who have a difficult time switching in, (RC) also make good partners, (AC) as they can abuse Mandibuzz's ability to act as a slow pivot.

This can be used to punish common switch-ins to Mandibuzz with an item removal or debilitating status respectively. This set can be very good at annoying and punishing opposing Mandibuzz, Kyurem, Tapu Koko, and Zapdos which can take advantage of it switching in. Whirlwind can be a good choice over U-turn as well, since it can stop setup sweepers like Volcarona, Tapu Fini, (AC) and Reuniclus that can use Mandibuzz as set up fodder. Taunt is also a good option over U-turn, (AC) since it can also prevent possible setup sweepers and can prevent Pokemon from setting up entry hazards on it; and it allows Mandibuzz to win the PP wars, (AC) since common entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes have more PP than Defog. However, without U-turn Mandibuzz can become a lot more passive and can be taken advantage of by Pokemon like Tapu Koko and Kyurem.

**Offensive Electric-types**: Offensive Electric-types like Zeraora and Tapu Koko can pressure Mandibuzz very well with their STABs and can force it out while threatening a KO, although, out of the two only Tapu Koko can switch in for free as Zeraora dislikes a possible Foul Play.

**Offensive Ice-types**: Similarly, offensive Ice-types like Kyurem and Weavile can also threaten a KO on Mandibuzz. They can also use Mandibuzz as setup fodder, as they force it out and can find opportunities to switch in as Mandibuzz uses Defog. However, both of these them dislike a possible Knock Off while switching in.

**Status**: Pokemon that Mandibuzz can check like Excadrill, Landorus-T, and defensive Garchomp often carry Toxic, (AC) which they can use as it pivots in, hurting its longevity. It can also force it to use Roost more often, (AC) which can deplete its PP quicker and give it less opportunities to use Defog. Other status conditions like burns and paralysis, (AC) especially from Dragapult, (AC) can hurt its ability to check threats as well. These forms of chip damage, (AC) along with weaker attacks like U-turn (AH) from the likes of Landorus-T and Rillaboom, (AC) can be enough to overwhelm Mandibuzz.

**Knock Off**: Some Pokemon that Mandibuzz is able to check like Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Kartana carry Knock Off which can be extremely detrimental to Mandibuzz's longevity, (AC) since it can be left unable to wall certain threats after Stealth Rock damage.

Mandibuzz operates best as a mixed defensive Pokemon in the current metagame, which lets it to check a plethora of threats like Rillaboom, Kartana, and Dragapult. Foul Play enables it to threaten Swords Dance users like Garchomp, Rillaboom, Excadrill, and Kartana while also discouraging them from setting up. Roost gives it longevity and allows it to better check threats like Dragapult and Choice Band Rillaboom, which would easily overwhelm Mandibuzz otherwise. U-turn lets it keep up momentum during a match, and lets it and pivot out on its checks like Kyurem and Tapu Koko and to safely bring in its teammates. Knock Off can be a good choice over U-turn, as it can be used instead to immediately punish its switch-ins by removing their item. The EVs on this set are used to survive two Draco Meteors from Choice Specs Dragapult and two Smart Strikes from Choice Band Kartana. The remaining EVs have been are put into Speed to outspeed Azumarill.

Mandibuzz can also do the same for Landorus-T by checking offensive Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom.
