evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spa
[SET COMMENTS]
Clefable can effectively function as a Magic Guard sweeper with Calm Mind and a Defense donation from gods such as Zamazenta-C, Necrozma-DM, Giratina, and Shuckle, making it incredibly difficult to take down after a boost. The effective immunity to Toxic and Leech Seed granted by Magic Guard gives Clefable a niche over its Unaware counterpart, enabling it to avoid significant chip damage from Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Rotom-W, and Skarmory. Soft-Boiled gives Clefable a consistent form of recovery. Moonblast is a powerful STAB move that hits many targets for neutral and super effective damage, such as Rayquaza, Pheromosa, Landorus-T, Galarian Moltres, and Rotom-W. Encore can lock Pokemon such as Zamazenta-C, Galarian Moltres, and Ferrothorn into status moves, while Thunder Wave can effectively cripple the same targets. Aromatherapy fits better on stall teams that require a cleric to keep their teams healthy. Flamethrower is a final option that sacrifices extra utility for better offensive pressure against Steel-types like Necrozma-DM and Corviknight. The given EVs and nature are to maximize Clefable's physical bulk, but can be optimized depending on the god it is paired with. When paired with Shuckle, Clefable can go with maximum HP and Special Defense due to its already significantly high Defense stat. This set also works well in the Special Defense slot with Giratina and Shuckle as gods and maximum HP and Special Defense EVs to better take on Galarian Moltres and special Giratina-O.
Magic Guard Calm Mind Clefable fits best on bulky offense and stall teams that appreciate its longevity and ability to pressure opposing teams with its setup moves. Zamazenta-C and Necrozma-DM are good pairings for bulky offense, as they appreciate Clefable's ability to spread paralysis with Thunder Wave and pressure otherwise annoying Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and opposing Clefable. Giratina and Shuckle are the best gods for stall teams, donating hefty defenses and benefiting from Clefable's cleric ability and its immunity to entry hazards. Clefable struggles versus potent physical attackers such as opposing Necrozma-DM, Kartana, and Pangoro. Skarmory and physically defensive Landorus-T are partners that can check both of those and force them out with Whirlwind and Earthquake, respectively. Clefable also struggles to handle opposing special setup sweepers such as Galarian Slowking, so a dedicated special wall such as Gastrodon should be paired with it to handle those attackers.
