[Overview]

With defenses dwarfed by that of other Rock-types in the tier, particularly Relicanth, you've probably raised an eyebrow as to why you'd consider Lileep on your team. The answer is its access to instant recovery in Recover. This neat perk means Lileep can wall Choice Band Normal- and Flying-types all day long without having to resort to Rest to keep it healthy throughout the match and in the process possibly becoming a liability. Lileep's dangerously low offenses mean that it's still setup bait for a good number of dangerous attackers in the tier, but as part of a balanced defensive core Lileep can certainly pull its weight.

[SET]
name: Defensive
move 1: Toxic
move 2: Recover
move 3: Giga Drain
move 4: Hidden Power Rock / Mirror Coat
item: Leftovers
ability: Suction Cups
nature: Relaxed
evs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
- Most of Lileep's damage output is going to come from Toxic, use that with impunity but be careful not to hit Raticate
- Recover is a given and needed to separate itself from other Rock-types
- Giga Drain Lileep's best STAB move
- Hidden Power Rock has good coverage with Giga Drain and deals a decent amount to super effective targets like Flareon despite Lileep's horrid Attack stat
- Mirror Coat an option to make use of Lileep's decent SpD and can make Water-types think twice about clicking Ice Beam

[ADDITIONAL SET COMMENTS]
- Def EVs prevent Lileep from being 2HKOed by CB Golbat, Arbok, Murkrow, and Relicanth
- SpD prevent 2HKO from Modest Chimecho, defensive Flareon
- Ingrain an option in the last slot to make Lileep really hard to break for most balanced teams, but is completely walled by Roselia
- Lileep works best on a balanced core with something to take on strong special attackers like Kecleon or Dewgong
- Needs a teammate to take on Hitmonchan. Sableye works well as does Chimecho. Chimecho can also provide Heal Bell to keep it healthy from Toxic itself

[Other Options]
- Baton Pass Receiver set
- Amnesia + Barrier + Toxic + Ingrain
- Ancient Power

[Checks and Counters]
- Hitmonchan
- Machoke
- Strong Ice-type moves; Dewgong, Huntail, Seadra
- Glalie
- Grass-types, Bellossom, Tropius, Tangela
- Swalot
