Gen 2 Ledian (NU) [QC 0/2]

Sevi 7

Semi-retired
Despite its low stats, Ledian is one of the best, if not the best, Baton Passers in this tier. It gets access to Agility, Barrier, Curse, Light Screen and Reflect; it sits at a decent speed tier, speed tying Stantler; and it has good Special Defensive bulk.

[SET COMMENTS]
This is Ledian's set to help it support teams an enable sweeps. Baton Pass is obviously needed to pass stat boosts. Agility makes anything with 36 or more Base Speed faster than Dugtrio. Several bulky and powerful Pokemon only need a Speed boost. So, going for Agility first, with the intention of then immediately Baton Passing into said Pokemon can be a good strategy for Ledian. Light Screen is ran to help with taking Special Attacks for both Ledian to set-up more and for Baton Pass' recipient to survive more attacks. Light Screen can also be used with Baton Pass, so Ledian can use Ligth Screen and then immediately switch-out. Ledian takes less damage while still supporting the team this way. Barrier boosts Defense, which either helps teammates receiving Baton Pass Boosts, or helps Ledian survive powerful physical moves such as Explosion or the 4x Super Effective Rock Slide. Alternatively, Curse can be ran with Agility to give a +1 Attack, +1 Defense, +1 Speed boost. However, Curse doesn't help much with Ledian's own survivability, when compared to Barrier. Finally, Reflect can be used for a Dual Screen set. Using Reflect over Barrier may seem like a mistake at first, because Barrier can be stacked up to three times. However, Reflect has some advantages over Barrier. First of all, Reflect is not affected by Haze, which is one of the most common answer to Ledian. Second, Reflect works across the entire team and not just one Pokémon, which means that one can switch around without any worry. Lastly, Ledian can hard switch out after using Reflect, instead of being forced to Baton Pass, which means it can minimize the damage it takes against faster foes.

Ledian cannot do anything on its own, so choosing its ally's is important. They need to be able to take full advantage of Ledian, because offensively and defensively Ledian adds nothing to a team itself. Pokémon who are only held back by their slow speed make for great recipients. Pokémon such as Octillery and Magnemite are two such Pokémon. Barrier or Reflect, and Light Screen can help Pokémon like Fearow, Primeape and Dugtrio, who are fast and powerful, but are fragile. If using Agility and Curse, physical attackers like Hitmonlee, Stantler and Kingler can instantly become sweepers. Other Pokémon who can continue to increase their stats also make excellent recipients. Flareon, for example, can continue to use Growth to boost its Special Attack. Flareon can also Baton Pass itself, which allows it to chain Baton Pass. Another example is Amnesia Octillery, who when also given Defense and Speed boosts, becomes an unkillable sweeper. Cubone appreciates both the Defense boost and Speed Boost and can then set up Swords Dance to sweep.

Haze, Roar and Whirlwind are the best answers to Ledian. They prevent Ledian from setting up anything, except for Light Screen or Reflect, and preventing a potential sweep. Explosion can be used to take down Ledian before it passes, but be aware that after a Defense boost, Ledian can survive a Self-Destruct or Explosion from Sudowoodo or Weezing respectfully. A STAB Rock-type attack OHKOs Ledian normally, but it only 2HKOs after a Barrier or Reflect.

Hey! Obviously I'm neither a prevalent GSC NU player nor a GSC NU QCer, but there is still feedback I can give in regards to general flow and ease of reading and whatnot. Might as well help out GP a bit and make it easier for the QC team to read. Tinker with implementation in certain areas regarding metagame stuff, feel free to dm me with any q's regarding grammar/flow stuff. In general, try to avoid "dex info" in analyses, as the reader doesn't have to read "Barrier boosts defense" ya know? Shoutouts to chessprime for his help with this. Also, in mons analyses we use "Pokemon" without the accented e.

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Ledian's set to help it support teams an enable sweeps. Baton Pass is obviously needed to pass stat boosts. This set aims to enable sweeps by passing a variety of stat boosts to its teammates. #same idea, easier to read and more concise Agility makes anything with 36 or more Base Speed faster than Dugtrio. Several bulky and powerful Pokemon only need a Speed boost. So, going for Agility first, with the intention of then immediately Baton Passing into said Pokemon can be a good strategy for Ledian. It is commonly Ledian's opening move, immediately using Baton Pass thereafter to pass to slower teammates like Cubone or Lickitung: Agility makes anything with 36 or more Base Speed faster than Dugtrio. #feel free to tinker with examples. Light Screen is run to help with taking Special Attacks for both Ledian to set-up more grant set-up opportunities for Ledian, and for Baton Pass' recipient to survive more attacks. Light Screen can also be used with Baton Pass, so Ledian can use Lihgt Screen and then immediately switch-out. #This is assumed by the nature of Baton Pass as a move already, almost dex info really Ledian takes less damage while still supporting the team this way. #Again, this is pretty basic assumed information that is unneeded. Screens reduce dmg and the mon has been established as a support already. Barrier boosts Defense, which either helps teammates receiving Baton Pass Boosts, or helps functions similarly to Light Screen, helping Ledian survive powerful physical moves such as Explosion or the 4x Super Effective #dex info, doesnt contribute Rock Slide. Alternatively, Curse can be ran with Agility to give a +1 Attack, +1 Defense, +1 Speed boost. is Ledian's primary method of increasing the offensive pressure of its teammates. However, Curse doesn't help much with Ledian's own survivability, when compared to Barrier or Light Screen, and it competes with Farfetch'd in this role #i'd imagine?. Finally, Reflect can be used for a Dual Screen set. Using Reflect may seem like a mistake at first, because Barrier can be stacked up to three times. However, Reflect has some advantages over Barrier. First of all, Reflect is not affected by Haze, which is one of the most common answer to Ledian. Second, Reflect works across the entire team and not just one Pokémon, which means that one can switch around without any worry. Lastly, Ledian can hard switch out after using Reflect, instead of being forced to Baton Pass, which means it can minimize the damage it takes against faster foes. over Barrier, trading away the potential for multiple Defense boosts for immunity to Haze as well as less reliance on Baton Pass to switch-out. #cuts a LOT of fluff for the same basic idea, feel free to mess around with.

Ledian cannot do anything on its own, so choosing its ally's is important. They need to be able to take full advantage of Ledian, because offensively and defensively Ledian adds nothing to a team itself. Ledian contributes little to a team outside of Baton Pass, so its teammates have to pick up the slack. Pokemon #fixed the evil e which are only held back by their slow speed make for great recipients. Pokémon such as ;Octillery and Magnemite are two such Pokémon. Barrier or Reflect, and Light Screen Barrier, Light Screen, and Reflect can help Pokémon like Fearow, Primeape and Dugtrio, which are fast and powerful, but are fragile offensively potent but fragile. If using Agility and Curse, physical attackers like Hitmonlee, Stantler and Kingler can instantly become sweepers #sweepers is a teambuilding role, not a description of a gamestate tear through the opposing team. Other Pokemon #fixed the evil e which can continue to further increase their stats also make excellent recipients. Flareon, for example, can continue to use Growth to boost its Special Attack. Flareon can also Baton Pass itself, which allows it to chain Baton Pass. can use Growth while itself using Baton Pass, which enables Baton Pass chaining within a team. Another example is Amnesia Octillery, which when also given Defense and Speed boosts, becomes an unkillable a near unstoppable #we use "KO" over "kill" for everything besides “Revenge Killer" sweeper. Cubone appreciates both the Defense boost and Speed Boost the support due to its fragility and poor Speed, and can then set up Swords Dance to sweep.

Haze, Roar and Whirlwind #can alternatively just make concise with "phazing moves" or whatever if you like are the best answers to Ledian. They prevent Ledian from setting up anything, except for Light Screen or Reflect, and preventing Agility, stopping a potential sweep from a teammate like Octillery or Cubone. #feel free to tinker with examples Explosion can be used to take down Ledian before it passes, but be aware that after a Defense boost, with Barrier or Reflect set-up Ledian can survive a either Self-Destruct or Explosion from Sudowoodo or Weezing respectfully ,respectively. A STAB Rock-type attack OHKOs Ledian normally Graveler and Dugtrio can normally OHKO Ledian with Rock Slide, but it they only 2HKOs 2HKO after a Barrier or Reflect.

edit: also please revamp and add to the Overview, I didn't touch it much because I don't play GSC NU but its incredibly short and uninformative. Or just remove it.
