LC UU Sample Teams
Welcome to the LC UU Sample Team Archive! Here you will find a collection of solid, successful teams intended to help new players get acclimated to the metagame and different playstyles found within LC UU. You may use any team in this archive as you see fit. This post will be updated in the future to account for tier shifts and significant meta changes. Special thank you to all the players who have been generous enough to submit teams.

Welcome to the LC UU viability ranking, which is like the LC viability ranking but for LC UU. As is the case for the LC viability ranking, we will "tier" every Pokemon based on usefulness. An initial tier list has already been made; if you think something should be moved up or down, post in this thread with your reasoning on why, and the change may be enacted, but please make sure you have a proper understanding of the current metagame before doing so. Bad/basic posts will be deleted, and repeated offenses may be punished by infraction. However, asking questions about why certain Pokemon are ranked where they are is acceptable.

LC UU Role Compendium

Welcome to the Role Compendium for Gen 7 LC UU. In this thread you will find all of the viable Pokemon in the LC UU tier organized into roles that they can fulfill for a team. The list is arguably incomplete, so if you find any errors or missing Pokemon in specific roles then please message one of taranteeeno, EnzoLapras or any LC UU council member on Smogon, PS, or Discord to fill it in.

We'll be adding more roles as time goes on and there might be some revamps to the project later down the line.

Note that I do not plan to keep this post up-to-date once the viability rankings are up.

Initial thoughts:

The lack of fighting priority leads me to believe that Hail will be extremely strong. Sand seems decent as well, but with Sandshrew as its only Sand Rush abuser and the presence of powerful Aqua Jet users, I see Hail taking the spotlight. Bronzor stands out as one of the more resilient Hail checks.

Speaking of Aqua Jet users, Water spam seems like it'll be crazy, with Corphish, Skrelp, and multiple smashers. Hyper offense in general seems like it'll be heavily favoured - while there may be a few good bulky Pokemon for balance, they seem easily trapped by Wynaut. The other major trappers, Trapinch and Stunky, don't seem to be quite as good, although I'm sure Trapinch can be tailored to suit the team's needs, and Stunky's fast Defog may come in handy.

There are a lot of very strong webs abusers and good spinblockers, and we have every webs setter except for Dewpider available here. Webs will likely be able to handle Sandshrew and Sandshrew-alola well, though they are still quite fast under webs + Hail (hitting 18 Speed with a +Spe nature under those conditions). I'm not sure how good webs will end up in the long run, as Inkay and the numerous strong birds are a major setback to the archetype.

The council has decided to quickban Wynaut. Due to its ability to safely switch into and remove a large portion of the defensive Pokemon in the metagame, either on its own or with a combination of Tickle and a Pursuit-using teammate, Wynaut renders defensive variants of Pokemon such as Lickitung, Shellos, and Lileep almost completely unviable. Teams that may rely on bulkier Pokemon to check top offensive threats like Corphish are easily dismantled, skewing the metagame towards offense to such a degree that archetypes outside of hyper offense are completely unviable. As a result, Wynaut has been quickbanned by the council.

omanyte looks like another annoying shell smasher; it's going to be "fun" playing against new and improved waterspam with a hard to rk sweeper

dewpider is actually really nice since he serves as a water check and a webs setter so the really threatening waters will be slightly easier to deal with (plus water bubble liquidation does way too much)

munchlax is prob going to be an S/A+ tier threat bc it's lickitung but with a ton more hp and more offensive prowess (licki has more def and passes wishes, though, so it has a bit more merit as a purely defensive or supportive mon)

We lost tortuga. Sucks. Versatile mon. Can get rocks up or sweep. Just like onamyte except he's even scarier. Ban plz.

Ban veil/snow warning. Things scary. Anything frail is improved so much. I'll elaborate later when I get on a computer.

i want munchlax banned
Agreed. Will elaborate later.

Dewpider is great. Scared that if veil gets banned webs will become cancer though. Overall seems like a fantastic wall breaker/Webber/tank

anorith looks ok. It's not really remarkable in any way. It's a nice rocker tho.

This post on the tiers shifts is probably a little late but it remains important for this format. According to the usage statistics in 1630 (I hope that it's that and not in 1500), here are the changes:
• Bunnelby moved from LC OU to LC UU
• Zigzagoon moved from LC OU to LC UU
• Wynaut moved from LC BL to LC OU
• Clamperl moved from LC UU to LC OU
• Corphish moved from LC UU to LC OU
• Munchlax moved from LC UU to LC OU
• Omanyte moved from LC UU to LC OU
Moreover, contrary to the list from above, Anorith and Dewpider are always playable in LC UU (to say nothing of Torchic, which is always present).

i want munchlax banned
its gone now! (somehow)

Although people might not be much interested in LC UU now, the Pokemon that recently dropped here could potentially spice up the metagame once more.

Firstly, we got Bunnelby, a versatile Choice Scarf user who is incredibly hard to switch into if you don't resist it or are immune to the move it is currently locked into and now that its in LC UU, there aren't really reliable Pokemon that can stop it dead in its tracks rather easily. Kabuto is an option against Bunnelby if it could pull off a free Knock Off and use a potential Weak Armor boost to outspeed Bunnelby and KO it with Rock Slide, but not if Bunnelby is locked into Earthquake. Pumpkaboo-S can also be an usable option against Bunnelby due to it being able to take advantage of being locked into Return and using Bunnelby as setup bait, but otherwise, gets 2HKOed by Stone Edge and 3HKOed by Earthquake. So although there may be examples of Pokemon that can take out Bunnelby, in most circumstances it will definitely rampage through teams with powerful moves, a great ability, and will ultimately most likely be banned because of this.

Lastly, another Normal-type Pokemon moves to LC UU and this time its the infamous Belly Drum sweeper Zigzagoon. While Bunnelby has seen much more usage than Zigzagoon in certain time periods, it stands as possibly the most notable Belly Drum user due to its decent movepool. With Belly Drum used Zigzagoon becomes a very hard Pokemon to stop, especially in the likes of LC UU where good priority users such as Pawniard are unable to be used. Maximized Extreme Speed basically defeats anything that doesn't resist it while Seed Bomb is a good coverage move against Rock-types like Kabuto. Thief is also a good coverage move as it can beat Ghost-types, but also provides Zigzagoon with an item that can make it even more unstoppable, like the Eviolite which allows it to tank potential priority moves more efficiently. Since most of the Pokemon that can stop Zigzagoon are in LC OU, it is easy to see that it can become a major threat in LC UU. So if it isn't stopped before it can setup, the match will most likely be in Zigzagoon's favor. Some answers that come to mind are Choice Scarf Fighting-type users such as Mankey and Machop who can shut down Zig before it sets up.

In the end result I think that these two Pokemon will probably be banned due to LC UU not having enough reliable checks to these two in most circumstances such as not having access to enough reliable priority which would otherwise be an efficient option against Bunnebly and Zigzagoon.

If I got anything wrong please feel free to correct me!

Hi guys I'm the new LC UU TL!
Pamplona and taranteeeno and myself will be taking over on council to replace tahu, jac, and infamy.
There will be a new VR and starting Saturday there will be two Official LC UU Roomtours every day at 9pm est and 3pm est!
LC UU will not have its own discord server but can be discussed in this server instead!
Until then feel free to post your thoughts about LCUU and its new drops. Particularly Munchlax, who looked broken the last time it was down in LC UU. Post your teams, thoughts, ideas and anything in between.

Have fun!

After reading here, this is kinda interesting to me, so i think i would like to share my thoughts on this format.

Hail teams seems too good at first glance. I'm not sure if these 3 can fit on one team or just only 2 ( With Snover checking Water-Types or Amaura checking Fire-Types ). I don't think they are relevant Fairy-Types that Sandshrew-Alola can sometimes forgo Iron Head for other moves. If I found this broken, then I think Sandshrew-Alola would be the main culprit.

Larvesta seems decent to me. It does check Sandshrew-A and can potentially crippled it with Flame Body burns, so as other physical attacker like Munchlax and Pancham, but I think its not good as a Hail check due to its rather lack of recovery as Morning Sun heals less when Hail is still active and too weak to Stealth Rock that it always needed a hazard removal.

The only one thing I think about Slowpoke is it can check Shell Smash Omanyte.

I'm still don't know things in LC UU a lot, but I like to explore this more.

Banned deucer.
LC UU

This has been requested for a while, so here it is. LC UU is a usage-based tier: Pokemon receiving over 3.41% usage on the LC ladder (per the 1630 stats, which can be found here) are banned.

i am dissp that wynaut is banned...

After the conclusion of the first LCUU roomtour I thought I should give my thoughts on a few mons I've used myself and mons I saw others using.

Water Types:

Water Types are extremely strong defensively and offensively currently. This is in part due to the prevalence of hail deterring the usage of Grass Types other than Snover, though waters still struggle with Snover it's only one mon of many other Grass Types that could be used. Additionally, there are very few electric types to choose from, further making water types harder to check.

Life Orb Krabby is something I have personally used and it is quite threatening, thanks to access to agility it is able to outspeed mons it otherwise wouldn't and often easily ohko them. Notably, max speed krabby with a +speed nature can outspeed Sandshrew-Alola in hail after one agility.

Omanyte is a mon I've only seen, not used myself, so I don't know the extent of it's viability. It gets shell smash though.

Slowpoke and Kabuto are I've both used as defensive waters, Slowpoke is able to decently check hail defensively. Kabuto is one of the better rock setters in LCUU

Electric Types:

Like in normal LC, electric types aren't that common, but those that are happen to be quite good.

Blitzle is a mon I used myself, creating a nice set for it that is able to beat hail cores on its own if used correctly

Blitzle @ Life Orb
Ability: Sap Sipper
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 20 Def / 36 SpA / 20 SpD / 228 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Volt Switch
- Wild Charge
- Low Kick
- Flame Charge

Flame charge allows blitzle to outspeed both scarf hail setters and A-Shrew in hail, while also doing a significant amount of damage to Snover and A-Shrew. Double Kick OHKOs all 3 mons which makes it preferable to Low Kick. Wild charge is the standard stab and Volt Switch is a filler slot that could basically be anything. I use sap sipper in order to switch in on Snover's giga drain/wood hammer in order to gain a boost. Motor Drive could also be ran for opposing Blitzle and Voltorb though isn't as useful imo

Speaking of Voltorb, it's currently the best electric type in LCUU. Mainly due to the scarf set first used by Simbo, allowing it to outspeed and take out hail cores as well as outspeed all other scarfers due to Voltorb's unmatched speed tier in LCUU. A screens set can also be ran but is less optimal due to the current prevalence of brick break making screens unreliable.

Those are my thoughts on a few mons, so far I've enjoying theorymonning, building, and playing LCUU very much, and I hope to continue contributing as the meta develops even more. <3

1) I think Dewpider looks kinda cool right now because it resists both sandshrew's stabs + earthquake so I could see some more defensive sets oriented to checking hail (even though it doesn't check snover, only sandshrew) with something like berry juice because unfortunately it has no form of reliable recovery. Same thing goes for checking Omanyte: it resists ice beam, hydro pump and earth power and usually Omanyte doesn't run rock type coverage. Another cool think about it is that it has access to sticky webs wich means you can potentially build a more offensive team without worrying that much about about hail or omanyte because any mon on your team that has 18+ speed should outrun them if they got afected by sticky web.
2) Another mon I love is Salandit with a really nice speed tier, good combination of stabs and ofc no trappers mean that the salamander is free to destroy anything. I don't really know how the meta is gonna evolve but Salandit can potentially be good against more balanced teams with a Nasty Plot + Z move set but also clean some offensive teams with something like a flame charge set or choice scarf.
+2 192 SpA Salandit Acid Downpour (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 236 SpD Munchlax: 33-39 (110 - 130%) -- guaranteed OHKO this calc is an example of its power.
3) Magby looks dangerous too with belly drum + fire punch + thunder punch + mach punch even though it has some checks like Wooper (idk how much is that thing going to be used), some rock types that have sturdyjuice or that can take a +6 mach punch and priority users that can take a mach punch. It also struggles to find opportunities to set up due to it's low bulk and typing but I can see it working with memento support and sweeping weakened teams.

PS: I don't think Munchlax is that broken. I know it eats everything you throw at it but most of the times it's forced to recycle to get the berry juice again and I feel it will be nice having an extra Omanyte check on the tier

That said, I haven't played that much LC UU so all of this are some opinions I have based on what I've seen and built so I could be wrong.

What is the likelihood of getting an ladder for this tier on PS? I know we have room tours on the daily, but living in GMT, 3PM is like 8PM here and 9PM is idk I'm asleep, maybe 2 AM?

edit: or adding a third tournament earlier in the day?
