[overview]
**Draft order**: Mid-round 2 onward
**Price range**: 14-16 points
**Overview**: Landorus is a premier wallbreaker. The power boost it gets from combining Sheer Force and Life Orb allows it to do considerable damage to the opponent's team, and it can boost that damage even further with a wide array of setup moves. However, even though Landorus has great raw power and boosting moves, its average Speed, lack of Speed-boosting moves, and underwhelming defensive profile make it highly susceptible to revenge killers.
[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Using Sheer Force and Life Orb combined with solid coverage options allows Landorus to dish out considerable damage with ease and be a threatening wallbreaker versus almost any team.
**Revenge Killer**: Because Sheer Force already provides its moves with a power boost, Landorus can make use of Choice Scarf to be a strong revenge killer that can even clean up entire teams if they are weakened by its teammates.
**Sacrificial Lead**: Using a Focus Sash, Landorus can be an effective sacrificial lead. Focus Sash allows it to set up Stealth Rock, and its damage output is high enough to threaten many other entry hazard setters, allowing it to effectively win the early-game hazard battle.
Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Earth Power, Earthquake, Sandsear Storm
**Setup moves**: Nasty Plot, Calm Mind, Bulk Up, Swords Dance
**Utility moves**: Substitute, Stealth Rock
**Coverage**: Psychic, Focus Blast, Grass Knot, Sludge Wave, Brick Break, Crunch, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Hammer Arm, Outrage, Tera Blast
Niche Moves
========
**Smack Down / Gravity**: Since Landorus wants to be using its Ground-type moves as much as possible, Smack Down and Gravity allow it to hit targets like Skarmory and Corviknight that might otherwise switch into its attacks.
Common Items
========
**Life Orb**: Landorus gets its power from combining Life Orb and Sheer Force, and very rarely is it worth giving up the damage for other items.
**Choice Scarf*: Using a Choice Scarf, Landorus can escape its average Speed tier and be a threatening form of speed control or a late-game cleaner.
Niche Items
========
**Resistance Berries**: Being able to survive a hit in a pinch can help Landorus overcome would-be checks and continue to put pressure on opposing teams.
**Focus Sash**: Focus Sash is used on sacrificial lead sets to ensure Landorus gets Stealth Rock up. It can also take foes by surprise if preserved longer, allowing Landorus to beat would-be revenge killers.
Tera
========
Landorus is pretty average as a Tera Captain. Because Tera Blast is not boosted by Sheer Force, it gains most of its strength as a Tera Captain by boosting its STAB moves even further or boosting the power of its coverage moves. It can also make use of defensive Tera types to flip defensive matchups, but it generally gains more value using Tera offensively. Even with these solid upsides, there are generally Pokemon that benefit more from being a Tera Captain than Landorus.
Draft Strategy
========
Landorus is a great wallbreaker, but it is very one-dimensional. Combining Landorus with teammates that can make use of its wallbreaking is the key to getting the most out of it.
**Sweepers / Cleaners**: Landorus is great at getting rid of walls that stop Pokemon like Blaziken and Roaring Moon from tearing through opposing teams. By breaking down walls, Landorus clears the way for these Pokemon to finish up games.
**Ice- and Water-resistant Pokemon**: Landorus is only weak to widely distributed Water- and Ice-type moves. Having teammates that can switch into these moves helps limit momentum lost if Landorus is forced out.
**Pivots**: Pokemon like Primarina and Latios that can force switches and pivot into Landorus are highly effective teammates. By doing this, they can bring Landorus into favorable matchups without needing it to risk taking extra damage.
Checks and Counters
========
**Faster Attackers**: Since Landorus cannot boost its Speed unless it's holding a Choice Scarf, it is easy for opponents to force it out with a faster Pokemon.
**Ground-immune Pokemon**: Pokemon that can switch into Landorus's strong STAB attacks safely can be frustrating to deal with throughout a game.
**Stealth Rock**: Since Landorus doesn't want to run Heavy-Duty Boots and can occasionally take recoil damage from Life Orb, it is susceptible to getting worn down from chip damage.
