[OVERVIEW]

Kingler's amazing Attack stat, powerful STAB Crabhammer that can 2HKO even Mew, decent physical bulk, good pure Water typing, and access to Agility make it both a good cleaner and a respectable physical tank. Its Speed is enough to outspeed the entire metagame after a single boost without requiring a boosting nature, allowing it to further bolster its power and become surprisingly deadly. Sweeping isn't its only selling point though&emdash; Kingler's resistance to Double Iron Bash and ability to hit Melmetal quite hard with Crabhammer and Superpower are especially noteworthy, making it an effective means of checking and wallbreaking Melmetal for a powerful teammate like Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Alakazam, or Mega Beedrill. Kingler does have several flaws, however; most notably, its special bulk is atrocious. This means that it struggles to set up against, or check, any special attackers. Its poor HP means that its physical bulk isn't all that impressive either, making it easily worn down by neutral hits like Alolan Dugtrio's Earthquake and therefore making it quite poor as an initial response to many physical attackers. Lastly, its coverage options can often fall short on power, meaning that Kingler can require a lot of prior damage on certain bulky or Water-resistant opponents in order to have any hope of sweeping.

Set Information

Agility allows Kingler to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame and attempt to sweep. Crabhammer an extremely powerful STAB move, capable of 2HKOing or OHKOing almost anything that doesn't resist it. Superpower hits Melmetal, Cloyster, and Mega Gyarados extremely hard and OHKOs Alolan Sandslash, letting it break through and check them better. Alternatively, Substitute allows Kingler to avoid being statused by slower Pokemon like Poliwrath, helps protect it from revenge killing attempts by the likes of healthy Zapdos, and is notably not broken by a single hit of Double Iron Bash, meaning Melmetal cannot hit Kingler through it for damage. Facade is another option for this slot that exploits common users of Toxic and Scald and provides strong coverage against most Water resists when boosted. X-Scissor guarantees an OHKO on Mega Alakazam after Stealth Rock, 2HKOes Mega Gyarados after Stealth Rock, and prevents Kingler from being walled by Starmie or Exeggutor, making it a useful coverage option. It also provides a more reliable hit against Mew, avoiding the risk of missing Crabhammer and letting Mew stall with Roost.

Usage Tips
========

Kingler is typically used one of two ways- as an early- to mid-game wallbreaker, or as a lategame sweeper. Which way it is used often should not be determined at Team Preview, but rather chosen depending on what opportunities are presented and whether Kingler's defensive qualities are needed. If Kingler can get a relatively safe switchin against something like Melmetal, Nidoqueen, or Sandslash, it typically should. Kingler is likely to sustain damage or get KOed in the process of wallbreaking&emdash; as such, try to preserve Kingler's offensive teammates so that they can clean up in the late-game instead. If a safe turn is found, such as when facing down a Ground-type, Agility or Substitute can be used to prevent Kingler from being revenge killed by offensive Pokemon such as Starmie, Mega Alakazam, or weakened Zapdos, letting it instead force damage on the opponent's defensive anchors like Melmetal and Mew. Otherwise, it is often optimal to simply spam Kingler's extremely powerful Crabhammer. If you are trying to sweep with Kingler, weakening answers such as Poliwrath, Will-O Wisp Mew, and Zapdos into range of its attacks is vital. Try to find a safe setup opportunity, such as versus Nidoqueen or a weakened Poliwrath or Melmetal. While you may get afflicted with Toxic when setting up, Kingler should still have enough turns to live in order to either win the game or leave the opponent severely weakened.

Team Options
========

Nidoqueen easily handles Zapdos, provides Stealth Rock to wear down switchins, and can break down bulky Kingler responses like Mew and Mega Venusaur with Toxic and Super Fang respectively. Alolan Dugtrio is an alternative option for this role that trades bulk for a more threatening offensive presence. Mega Aerodactyl applies even more pressure to physical tanks like Melmetal, Mega Venusaur, and Poliwrath, either wearing them down for Kingler's lategame sweep or making use of Kingler breaking these targets open for a clean-up of its own. Alternatively, Mega Beedrill can provide Kingler with good wallbreaking opportunities by providing it safe entry against switch-ins such as Rhydon and Melmetal via U-turn. Melmetal further aids in wallbreaking and takes pressure off Kingler to act as a physical tank, letting it preserve its HP. Mew and Zapdos do the same, handling threats such as Alolan Dugtrio and Melmetal and bringing Kingler in safely on these Pokemon with U-turn. Alternatively, Mew can help with breaking down the opponent by running a setup variant- physical variants work best in order to force damage on the physically bulky Pokemon Kingler can't beat on its own.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Rock Slide can be used to hit Dragonite hard, but this is its only worthwhile use as flinches are unreliable and it typically deals the same damage as a neutral Crabhammer when hitting for supereffective damage. Brick Break's massive power decrease in comparison to Superpower is notable, only matching Crabhammer's power on Melmetal, but it can still deal solid damage to Cloyster and clear a troublesome Reflect. Toxic can put Will-O Wisp Mew that attempt to switch in and handle Kingler on a timer, but it isn't hugely useful outside of this.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Mega Venusaur**: Mega Venusaur easily takes any moves Kingler can throw at it and OHKOes in return with Mega Drain.

**Dragonite**: Dragonite can entirely wall any common variant of Kingler and use it as setup fodder, especially if carrying Roost.

**Bulky Water-types**: Poliwrath doesn't threaten Kingler all that much, but it resists both Crabhammer and X-Scissor, which allows it to Low Kick Kingler until it faints or attempt to get a Scald burn. Mega Blastoise can tank Crabhammer easily and 2HKOs in return with Dark Pulse.

**Fast Special Attackers**: If Kingler hasn't set up with Agility, Pokemon such as Zapdos, Starmie, Mega Alakazam, Gengar, Nasty Plot Mew, and Jolteon can revenge kill it quite easily; however, none of these Pokemon other than Mew can comfortably switch in versus Kingler as they take massive damage from Crabhammer.

This is a pretty 1-dimensional mon, so it's hard to add much here. I would add that Zapdos is a decent check, switching in and denying the sweep - either kingler clicked crabhammer and Zapdos roosts (it lives rocks+ crabhammer + crabhammer on the roost, so it's not a super solid prediction option), or it clicked agility and Zapdos forces it out.

Also maybe mention hyper beam coverage for golbat

u left out starmie as an x-scissor target.

edit: i dislike zapdos suggestion for c&c, bc switching into crabhammer (with rocks up) brings it under 25% which means zapdos cannot u-turn. unless the opponent no longer has a ground type u are just hurting urself, giving all the momentum to the opponent. (and if the opponents ground type has been removed, u prob dont want zapdos to switch into strong attacks like that since its likely your best win con). also, even if you switch in on agility, survive crabhammer and then ko kingler with tbolt, the opponent can then bring in their ground type (or any revenge killer) and zapdos is dead since it is under 25% and cant roost in front of a ground type (with the exception of dugtrio-a lacking rock slide). trading zapdos for kingler is unlikely to be favorable.
this reply is for 'standard' pivot zapdos, other sets might be okay switching in in some situations: reflect zapdos doesnt care as much abt letting in grounds bc it can still set at minimum set reflect, and can decently 1v1 the grounds not immune to toxic; zapdos with drill peck (or sky attack) can damage nidos without pivoting out, so that at least creates somewhat of a 50/50 (sometimes). specifically reflect zapdos could potentially be mentioned as a check but its still situational and idk if that makes sense for a general analysis.
(i cant tell if adding zapdos was a qc-mandated edit, either way im j commenting on the substantive issue)
i think listing zapdos in 'faster special attackers' makes much more sense, and maybe it can be grouped w mew and starmie as pokemon that can sometimes switch in directly but tbh mew and starmie switch in significantly better, especially if x-scissor is only slashed as they both switch in somewhat freely to any set without x-scissor.
for teams without m-venu or poliwrath (or some uncommon pokes not mentioned such as m-blastoise), kingler rly doesnt have good direct switchins, and with the exception of grounds that are outsped it is often best to attack (or status) it with whatever pokemon is already out. so i think it is appropriate for c&c to be focused on revenge killers.

~ i think substitute (i love substitute 'suggestion' and want to try it) needs to be slashed with superpower instead of with x-scissor, not being able to do anything to starmie sucks for a substitute set, and the stat drops are counterproductive to the purpose of sub which is to try to get off multiple attacks. and for example your comment about substitute not being broken by the first hit of dib is no longer true if you click superpower. and x-scissor provides the best overall coverage with one moveslot.
what is most relevant about x-scissor vs mew is its perfect accuracy, not the slightly increased damage, which prevents mew from repeatedly using roost trying for a crabhammer miss (which it can do basically as long as it wants to, unless crabhammer gets multiple critical hits). imo x-scissor is mandatory bc without it mew can just come in and roost stall for a crabhammer miss or until u switch out.

~ rock slide is for dragonite, pure flinch fishing is rarely worth it / necessary, i mean yes its often the best move against zapdos or m-venu after boosting, but kingler is not setting up against m-venu teams lol, and getting zap into crabhammer range isnt too hard. the actual reason to run rock slide is dragonite.
dragonite should be listed in c&c as without rock slide (or toxic) kingler cant do anything and dragonite will just roost as needed and slowly kill it with earthquake, and even with rock slide u need some luck since dnite also has agility and has higher base speed (unless kingler is jolly).

~ i really like rapidash as a kingler teammate, rapidash is a big help to kingler's m-venu problem, rapidash sometimes outspeeds m-venu's entire team, while outside of that matchup they share checks such as poliwrath, rapidash burning ground types can kingler much safer switch-in to them, and kingler appreciates the safe entry provided after rapidash faints to flare blitz recoil. their 'playstyles' match in preferring to just stay in and attack rather than switch around so they synergize well that way also.
this is even more true for substitute kingler as poliwrath can no longer break kingler's substitute if burned, and rapidash is excellent at forcing burn and some damage on poli. burned nidoqueen also cannot break kingler's sub if kingler is <50% (bc of super fang), and burned nidoking lacking tbolt has a ~20% chance to break it. idk that is just my view and feel like mentioning it, not saying it --needs-- to be in team options.

~ (miscellaneous comments) scald should not be mentioned. even if you get the secondary effect, m-venu doesnt care much about burn, and poli is not that good of a switch-in anyway and u are better off just using crabhammer which usually 4hkos, while low kick 3hkos back. (burns are nice with substitute as described above but kingler has no room for both scald and sub). idk if this was just a 'mention scald since its a water type' but there is no real reason to use it. (btw if scald was viable, its primary target would be dragonite.)
@ facade, i think its more to try to take advantage of toxic, from poliwrath and also grounds, since the only times kingler should risk taking burn is situations such as when mew switched in and is in range of burned x-scissor (ie so u ko mew if it does burn u).
crabhammer + boosted facade have 150 and 140 bp and obv perfect neutral coverage in the tier, and running facade makes setting up agility against those toxic users much more feasible, tho u still need mew weakened (or statused) as x-scissor does 48-57% so a healthy mew will be able to roost stall for a lot of toxic damage.
also, against an m-venu team if u are able to switch facade kingler into a status move then it can actually do something to m-venu, which otherwise is a complete counter and rly prevents kingler from accomplishing anything.
[mew's psychic nearly ohko's kingler after rocks, maybe just saying psychic mew (can mention tbolt also i guess tho mew running tbolt without psychic is rare) instead of nasty plot mew.]
i really dislike forgoing adamant bc of the damage output against mew but im sure some ppl see jolly as worth an oo mention, kingler is in a crowded speed tier and jolly will importantly outspeed nidoqueen and m-gyara, also dragonite (if kingler has rock slide, otherwise this is irrelevant), i guess m-venu if u are able to significantly weaken it beforehand lol, m-blastoise to whatever extent that is relevant, and either attain or avoid a speed tie with eevee-s (obv going first is important as kingler almost ohkos even without superpower while buzzy buzz is a 2hko in addition to paralyzing).

So if you think this is fine it's fine. Lastly, its coverage options can often fall short on power, meaning that Kingler can require a lot of prior damage on certain bulky or Water-resistant opponents in order to have any hope of sweeping.

X-Scissor does slightly more damage to Mew, guarantees an OHKO on Mega Alakazam after Stealth Rock, 2HKOes Mega Gyarados after Stealth Rock, and prevents Kingler from being walled by the rare Exeggutor. Facade seems a step above everything else in OO, do you think it has a place here? If you're burned it is a 6% damage decrease from unburned crabhammer with 100% acc, and then also enables you to touch pokemon you wouldn't be able to anyway, like water resists such as dnite. Basically what im trying to get at is between Facade's great power and coverage besides Melmetal and crabhammer still bopping rock types, its quite great to have in endgames where it hits all the remaining mons, like zapdos alakazam bee etc. Wisp pokemon like rapidash and mew alongside scald use is, in my opinion, common enough to be worth a slash, as it probably is useful in a comparable amount of situations to substitute.

Kingler is typically used one of two ways- as an early- to mid-game wallbreaker, or as a lategame sweeper. While you may get afflicted with Toxic when setting up, Kingler should still have enough turns to live in order to either win the game or leave the opponent severely weakened. yup i agree toxic is pretty inconsequential, if it means im not taking an attack when they click it

Team Options
========

Kingler's appreciates teammates that can help with handling its limited list of reliable answers. Nidoqueen is an especially great example as it easily handles Zapdos, provides Stealth Rock to wear down switchins, and can break down bulky Kingler responses like Mew and Mega Venusaur with Toxic and Super Fang respectively. Rhydon and Golem can fulfil similar roles, trading a Toxic immunity and Super Fang for a greater overall offensive presence. Mega Aerodactyl applies even more pressure to physical tanks like Melmetal, Mega Venusaur, and Poliwrath, either wearing them down for Kingler's lategame sweep or making use of Kingler breaking these targets open for a clean-up of its own. Alternatively, Mega Beedrill can provide Kingler with good wallbreaking opportunities by providing it safe entry against switch-ins such as Rhydon and Melmetal via U-turn. dont have much to say on teambuilding or usage, never built or used it :3
nothing outright incorrect here.

Rock Slide can be used to flinch through Pokemon that aren't in range of one of Kingler's other attacks, but this is its only worthwhile use as it deals the same damage as a neutral Crabhammer when hitting for supereffective damage. Facade can be used to exploit burns from Pokemon like Mew, dealing a respectable amount of damage- however, getting burned prevents Kingler from dealing meaningful damage with its coverage moves and should therefore be avoided anyway. Brick Break's massive power decrease in comparison to Superpower is notable, only matching Crabhammer's power on Melmetal, but it can still deal solid damage to Cloyster and, more notably, clear a potential Reflect. Scald can be used as a surprise option to attempt to burn checks like Poliwrath and Mega Venusaur, but Kingler's awful Special Attack stat means it doesn't deal any worthwhile damage. Toxic can put Will-O Wisp Mew that attempt to switch in and handle Kingler on a timer, but it isn't hugely useful outside of this.imo scald is significantly worse than anything else here and the OO section is hardly barren, but up 2 u. I just feel its very low reward, burning the mons u mentioned isnt even huge, and you only have a 30% chance to burn, outside that you're doing like... 4%. to those mons. and giving them a free turn.

Checks and Counters

**Mega Venusaur**: Mega Venusaur easily takes any moves Kingler can throw at it and OHKOes in return with Mega Drain.

**Poliwrath**: Poliwrath resists both Crabhammer and X-Scissor, letting it easily Toxic and handle Kingler lacking Substitute one-on-one. If Kingler has Substitute, Poliwrath can reliably break it with Low Kick, but it may sustain significant damage in the process.

**Zapdos**: A healthy Zapdos can switch in on Kingler, surviving a Crabhammer after Stealth Rock damage and threatening an OHKO with Thunderbolt.

**Fast Special Attackers**: If Kingler hasn't set up with Agility, Pokemon such as Starmie, Mega Alakazam, Gengar, Nasty Plot Mew, and Jolteon can revenge kill it quite easily; however, none of these Pokemon other than Starmie and Mew can ever afford to switch in versus Kingler due to their frailty and lack of a Water resistance.

1/2, i saw juoean had a lot to say about the mon so hopefully 2/2 will come with the return of her laptop.

at x-scissor, probably also mention that it prevents (unstatused) mew from switching in and roost stalling for a crabhammer miss

the risks of superpower should be noted explicitly, ie that mew and zapdos resist superpower and can roost freely if they switch into it as kingler cannot pressure them after the attack drop

qc 2/2 , again if i have 'authority' to do that

mega beedrill is mentioned in team options (i agree) so it should prob also be included in the intro sentence where u wrote "wallbreaking Melmetal for a powerful teammate like Mega Aerodactyl or Mega Alakazam" (that is obv not qc related)

Kingler does have several flaws, however; most notably, its However, Kingler's special bulk is atrocious. This means that it struggles to set up against, or check, any special attackers. Its poor HP means that its physical bulk isn't all that impressive either, making it easily worn down by neutral hits like Alolan Dugtrio's Earthquake and therefore making it Earthquake. Therefore, it's quite poor as an initial response to many physical attackers. Lastly, its coverage options can often fall short on power, meaning that so Kingler can require a lot of prior damage on certain bulky or Water-resistant opponents in order foes to have any hope of sweeping.

Set Information
========

Agility allows Kingler to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame and attempt to sweep. Crabhammer is an extremely powerful STAB move, capable of 2HKOing or OHKOing almost anything that doesn't resist it. Superpower hits Melmetal, Cloyster, and Mega Gyarados extremely hard and OHKOs OHKOes Alolan Sandslash, letting it break through and check them better. Alternatively, Substitute allows Kingler to avoid being statused by blocks status from slower Pokemon like Poliwrath, helps protect it from revenge killing attempts by the likes of Kingler from revenge killers like healthy Zapdos, and is notably not broken by a single hit of Double Iron Bash, meaning Melmetal cannot hit Kingler through it for damage. Facade is another option for this moveslot that exploits common users of Toxic and Scald, (AC) and provides providing strong coverage against most Water resists Water-resistant Pokemon when boosted. X-Scissor guarantees an OHKO on Mega Alakazam after Stealth Rock, 2HKOes Mega Gyarados after Stealth Rock, and prevents Kingler from being walled by Starmie or Exeggutor, making it a useful coverage option Starmie and Exeggutor from walling Kingler. It also provides a more reliable hit against Mew, avoiding the risk of missing Crabhammer and letting Mew stall with Roost.

Usage Tips
========

Kingler is typically used one of two ways—as an early- to and mid-game wallbreaker, or as a lategame late-game sweeper. Which way it is used often should not be to use it is rarely determined at Team Preview, but rather chosen depending dependent on what opportunities are presented in a game and whether Kingler's defensive qualities are needed. If Kingler can get a relatively safe switchin switch-in against something some foe like Melmetal, Nidoqueen, or Sandslash, it typically should wallbreak earlier on. (I imagine? change if I misunderstand) Kingler is likely to sustain damage or get KOed in the process of wallbreaking&emdash; as such, wallbreaking—therefore, try to preserve Kingler's offensive teammates so that they can clean up in the late-game instead. If a safe turn is found, such as when facing down a Ground-type, Agility or Substitute can be used to prevent Kingler from being revenge killed by stop offensive Pokemon such as Starmie, Mega Alakazam, or and weakened Zapdos from revenge killing Kingler, letting it instead force damage on the opponent's defensive anchors like Melmetal and Mew. Otherwise, it is often optimal to simply spam Kingler's extremely powerful Crabhammer. If you are trying to sweep with Kingler, weakening answers such as Poliwrath, Will-O Wisp Mew, and Zapdos into KO range of its attacks is vital. Try to find a safe setup opportunity, such as versus Nidoqueen or a weakened Poliwrath or Melmetal. While you may get afflicted with Toxic when setting up, Kingler should still have enough turns left to live in order to either win the game or leave the opponent's team severely weakened.

Team Options
========

Nidoqueen easily handles Zapdos, provides Stealth Rock to wear down switchins, switch-ins, and can break down bulky Kingler responses like Mew and Mega Venusaur with Toxic and Super Fang, (AC) respectively. Alolan Dugtrio is an alternative option for this role that trades bulk for a more threatening more offensive presence. Mega Aerodactyl applies even more pressure to physical tanks like Melmetal, Mega Venusaur, and Poliwrath, either wearing them down for Kingler's lategame late-game sweep or making use of using Kingler breaking these targets open for a clean-up of its own. to clean up itself. Alternatively, Mega Beedrill can provide Kingler with good wallbreaking opportunities by providing it safe entry against safely pivoting it into switch-ins such as Rhydon and Melmetal via U-turn. Melmetal further aids in wallbreaking and takes pressure off Kingler to act as a physical tank, letting it preserve its HP for a potential sweep. (I imagine?) Mew and Zapdos do the same, handling threats such as Alolan Dugtrio and Melmetal and safely bringing Kingler in safely on into these Pokemon with U-turn. Alternatively, Mew can help with breaking down the opponent wallbreaking by running a setup variant- physical variants set—Bulk Up sets (I imagine? correct or revert if i misunderstand) work best in order to force damage on the physically bulky Pokemon Kingler can't beat on its own.

Other Options
=============

Rock Slide can be used to hit Dragonite hard, but this is its only worthwhile use, (AC) as flinches are unreliable, (AC) and it super effective Rock Slide typically deals the same damage as a neutral Crabhammer when hitting for supereffective damage. Brick Break's massive power decrease in comparison to versus Superpower is notable, only with it merely matching Crabhammer's power on Melmetal, but it can still deal solid damage to Cloyster and can clear a troublesome Reflect. Toxic can put Will-O Wisp Mew that attempt to switch in and handle Kingler on a timer if it switches in to handle Kingler, but it isn't hugely useful outside of this.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Poliwrath doesn't threaten Kingler all that much, but it resists both Crabhammer and X-Scissor, which allows it to Low Kick Kingler until it lets it use Low Kick until Kingler faints or attempt to get a Scald burn. Mega Blastoise can tank Crabhammer easily and 2HKOs 2HKOes in return with Dark Pulse.

**Fast Special Attackers**: If Kingler hasn't set up with Agility, Pokemon such as Zapdos, Starmie, Mega Alakazam, Gengar, Nasty Plot Mew, and Jolteon can revenge kill it quite easily; however, none of these Pokemon other than Mew can comfortably switch in versus Kingler, (AC) as they take massive damage from Crabhammer.
