Draft Kingambit

Not open for further replies.
[overview]
**Draft order**: Round 4 onwards

**Price range**: 12-13 points

**Overview**: Kingambit boasts very strong Attack, which it combines with its great STAB moves in Iron Head and Kowtow Cleave, allowing it to put strong offensive pressure on the enemy team. As well as this, it has a good priority move and decent utility options to help support its team. Combining this with its bulky stats makes Kingambit incredibly annoying to prepare for. However, its slow base Speed and its 4x Fighting-type weakness mean it's extremely reliant on being able to take hits before dealing damage.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Physical Wallbreaker**: When given a damage-boosting item, Kingambit can reliably deal massive damage to all but the biggest walls in the game. It threatens many Pokemon and forces them to switch out, including faster Pokemon for their fear of being hit by a strong STAB-boosted Sucker Punch.

**Setup Sweeper**: With access to Swords Dance, Kingambit can use Sucker Punch on faster, frailer Pokemon and use its stronger STAB moves and coverage moves to take out bulkier, slower Pokemon. A well-timed Swords Dance can be devastating for the opponent to deal with.

**Bulky Utility**: Kingambit can provide a utility role in games where it's needed, using moves such as Taunt and Thunder Wave for disruption or Stealth Rock for entry hazard setting. Furthermore, a Defiant Kingambit can deter the opponent from running Defog and Intimidate on certain enemy Pokemon.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Kowtow Cleave

**Setup moves**: Swords Dance

**Utility moves**: Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock, Substitute, Foul Play

**Coverage**: Brick Break, Low Kick, Poison Jab, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, X-Scissor, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========
**Lash Out**: Due to Kingambit's access to Defiant, Lash Out becomes a potentially strong STAB move that deals insane amounts of damage to any Pokemon even attempting to lower its stats.

**Metal Burst**: Metal Burst is a very uncommon move, but thanks to Kingambit's massive physical bulk, it can reliably use this move against foes that would otherwise withstand its attacks.

Common Items
========
**Resistance Berries**: Steel / Dark is a fantastic type combination with very few weaknesses. Thus, Kingambit is a very reliable user of a resistance Berry, oftentimes surviving a hit that is expected to KO it. Chople Berry is especially common, with some Pokemon carrying Fighting-type coverage moves just to take on Kingambit.

**Damage-Boosting Items**: Kingambit usually hates being Choice-locked into one move due to the mind games that come with Sucker Punch. However, it does appreciate a damage-boosting item. One can be used to help Kingambit hit damage ranges that it otherwise would not.

**Leftovers**: As a slower attacker, Kingambit appreciates being able to stay on the field as long as possible. Leftovers can help Kingambit pull off a Swords Dance and sweep the entire opposing team.

**Lum Berry**: Being burned is quite possibly a Kingambit player's biggest fear. Lum Berry allows it to ignore one connected Will-O-Wisp or Flame Body activation.

Niche Items
========
**Air Balloon**: Against a team with a reasonably threatening Earthquake or Earth Power user, an Air Balloon lets Kingambit ignore this threat for the beginning of the battle. This forces opposing Pokemon to have to hit Kingambit with a potentially weaker move whilst having to take a strong hit in return.

**Assault Vest**: Kingambit's fantastic physical bulk unfortunately comes with weaker special bulk. While a setup move would usually be appreciated on Kingambit, an Assault Vest can be used to let it take on some of the stronger special attackers in the game.

**Mental Herb**: Being a strong setup sweeper, Kingambit can naturally be blocked from sweeping by a non-Prankster Encore or Taunt user. A Mental Herb helps let Kingambit begin its sweep without being disrupted by the opponent.

**Choice Band**: In a matchup with weaker Dark-resistant Pokemon, Choice Band becomes a more viable item. Kingambit's already strong moves get boosted even further, making switch-ins for it incredibly unreliable.

**Protective Pads**: Kingambit has a ton of contact moves that it would like to make use of. If the opponent carries bulky Flame Body, Static, and Rocky Helmet users, then Kingambit may find it worthwhile to run Protective Pads to prevent the risk of unnecessary damage or a status condition.

Tera
========
Kingambit is usually Tera-banned. If you get the chance to use a Tera-Legal Kingambit, I both congratulate you and pray for your opponent's well-being. It should absolutely be one of your Tera Captains. Tera Dark is one popular choice, further boosting the power of STAB Kowtow Cleave and Sucker Punch. Other great options include defensive Tera types, such as Fairy, Water, and Flying, to flip its defensive matchups on their heads.

Draft Strategy
========
Kingambit is a very good bulky physical attacker and can offer solid support options for a team. It fits best on teams that appreciate these roles, but make sure that the team can cover its numerous weaknesses. You should expect to have at least some of the following roles filled out before considering picking it.

**Special wallbreaker**: Kingambit struggles against strong physical walls like Great Tusk and Dondozo. Special attackers such as Keldeo, Chi-Yu, and Enamorus are able to deal significant damage to Kingambit's common checks or force them to run less physical bulk, which in turn allows it to perform better.

**Entry hazard setters**: Despite Kingambit's access to entry hazards, another Pokemon with access to Spikes, Toxic Spikes, or Stealth Rock can pair really well with it. This allows Kingambit to run another move to boost its offensive potential without having to miss out on some potential KOs. Great examples of these partners include Iron Treads, Garchomp, and Gliscor.

**Fairy- and Flying-types**: With a 4x super effective STAB move and a resistance to Sucker Punch, most Fighting-types are very good answers to Kingambit. Therefore, it would be very useful to draft a Pokemon that can withstand the Fighting-type attacks that Kingambit is weak to. Enamorus and Iron Valiant offer fantastic offensive potential against Kingambit counters, and Zapdos, Clefable, and Moltres can offer great defensive synergy.

**Fast attackers**: With good partners that fill in Speed tiers the slow Kingambit cannot reach, offensive foes will feel pressured into investing more of their EVs into Speed rather than bulk to move first against your team. This makes the opposing team more frail and allows Kingambit to perform its role as a cleaner more reliably, picking off faster foes with Sucker Punch. Speedy Pokemon like Sneasler, Latios, and Garchomp complement Kingambit well in this regard.

Checks and Counters
========
**Special wallbreakers**: Kingambit's lower Special Defense leaves it open to strong special attacks. Frailer attackers can get picked off by a Sucker Punch, but Pokemon like Enamorus and Darkrai can resist the attack and deal massive damage back.

**Bulky physical walls**: With limited coverage, Kingambit struggles to make a dent in the best physical walls. Pokemon like Great Tusk and Iron Hands can absorb its STAB and coverage moves very well, then threaten it back with big damage.

**Flame Body / Static users**: The overwhelming majority of Kingambit's moves make contact. Therefore, it is extremely susceptible to contact move abilities from Pokemon like Zapdos and Moltres. This can be neutralized by running Protective Pads or Lum Berry, but this does come at the expense of its item slot.

**Fighting-type attackers**: Kingambit is 4x weak to Fighting. On top of that, Fighting-type attackers like Mienshao and Iron Valiant resist its Sucker Punch and can threaten an OHKO back. Even Pokemon that have Fighting-type coverage moves like Meowscarada can expose Kingambit's biggest weakness.

just as a heads up, we assume no tera for these because we are using the winter seasonal as a base, so please write this with that in mind. Kingambit is a good physical attacker yes, but ensure that you limit how insane in can be with tera in the tera section. Tag me in discord if you have questions/would like a qc later

Hey, thank you! Much appreciated. I know some leagues allow tera gambit but I will write the majority of guide assuming that it isnt legal.

Thanks! I know it was a bit pre-emptive but just wanted to ensure that you didn't have to do too much rewriting later. The way you've written everything looks pretty strong so I have no doubts your content will be good.

**Draft order**: Round 4 onwards if tera banned. Late round 1/early round 2 onwards if tera legal. (only put this in the tera section)

**Price range**: 12-13 if tera banned. 17-18 if tera legal.

**Overview**: Kingambit is one of the best physical attackers in the current format. This behemoth's 135 attack stat combined with its great STAB moves in Iron Head and Kowtow Cleave allow it to punch a hole though any team you wish. Its slow base speed means it's extremely reliant on being able to take hits, but its high physical bulk and access to the strongest Sucker Punch in the game certainly mitigates this problem.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Physical breaker**: When combining Supreme Overlord with an attack boosting item, Kingambit can reliably deal massive damage to all but the biggest walls in the game. It threatens many Pokemon and forces them to switch out, including faster Pokemon for their fear of being hit by a strong STAB boosted Sucker Punch.

**Setup sweeper**: With access to Swords Dance, Kingambit can Sucker Punch the faster, frailer mons and use its stronger STAB moves and coverage moves to take out the bulkier, slower mons. A well-timed Swords Dance can usually end the game with a victory for the Bisharp evolution.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Kowtow Cleave

**Setup moves**: Swords Dance, Substitute (i get it here but we've standarized only putting it in utility)

**Utility moves**: Thunder Wave, Stealth Rocks, Substitute, Foul Play

**Coverage**: Brick Break, Low Kick, Poison Jab, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, X-Scissor, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========
**Facade**: In match-up where your opponent can reliably spread burns around with Flame Body or Will-O-Wisp users, Facade is a strong move that punishes such reliance on burns. (just run lum)

**Lash Out**: Due to Kingambit's access to defiant, Lash Out becomes a potentially strong STAB move that deals insane amounts of damage to anyone even attempting to lower its stats.

**Metal Burst**: A very uncommon move, but thanks to Kingambit's massive physical bulk it can reliably use this move against opponents that would otherwise withstand its attacks.

Common Items
========
**Black Glasses / Life Orb / Expert Belt Damage-boosting items**: Kingambit usually hates being locked into one move due to the mind games that come with Sucker Punch. However, it does appreciate a damage boosting item. This can be used to help Kingambit hit damage ranges that it otherwise would not.

**Leftovers**: As a slower attacker, Kingambit appreciates being able to stay on the field as long as possible. Lefties can help Kingambit pull off a Swords Dance and sweep the entire enemy team.

**Occa Berry / Chople Berry / Shuca Berry / Air Balloon**: Steel-Dark is a fantastic type combination with very few weaknesses. Thus, Kingambit is a very reliable user of a resist berry or the high-risk high-reward Air Balloon item , often times living a hit that is expected to KO it. (make this resistance berries and mention balloon seperately)

**Lum Berry**: Being burned is quite possibly a Kingambit player's biggest fear. Lum Berry allows it to ignore one connected Will-O-Wisp or Flame Body activation.

Niche Items (add band, i think its okay on non tera gambit if dark resists are bad)
========
**Assault Vest**: This Pokemon's fantastic physical bulk unfortunately comes with weaker special bulk, with Kingambit's special defense being only 85 compared to its physical defense of 120. Whilst a setup move would usually be appreciated on Kingambit, an Assault Vest can be use to let it take on some of the stronger special attackers in the game.

**Mental Herb**: Being a strong setup sweeper, Kingambit can naturally be blocked from sweeping by a non-prankster Encore or Taunt user. A Mental Herb helps let this Pokemon begin its sweep without being turned into a puppet by the opponent.

**Clear Amulet**: Whilst Kingambit does have access to Defiant, the Clear Amulet can help this Pokemon in match ups where you would rather run Supreme Overload but are still worried about attack drops. (feels too niche)

**Protective Pads**: Kingambit has a ton of contact moves that it would like to make use of. If the opponent carrires bulky Flame Body, Static or Rocky Helmet users, then Kingambit may find it worthwhile to run Protective Pads to prevent the risk of unnecessary damage ora status condition.

Tera
========
Kingambit is quite controversial when it comes to the subject of tera. Most draft leagues deem the upgrade Kingambit gets from Terastalization to be to powerful to be allowed in most drafts, therefore it is considered ban worthy as a tera cap Tera Captain. However on the chance you get to use a tera-legal Kingambit, it should absolutely be one of your tera captains. Tera Dark is one popular choice, further boosting the power of STAB Kowtow Cleave or the priority Sucker Punch. Other great options include defensive teras, such as Fairy, Water and Flying to reverse the type weaknesses of this knight.

Draft Strategy
========
Lets be honest, Kingambit is one of the best at its role: a bulky physical attacker. However, it fails to fulfil another role reliably on a team. Therefore when drafting this Pokemon, you'll want to make sure you can cover the other important necessary roles that compliment it well.

**Special wallbreaker**: A natural partner to any physical wallbreaker. Whilst Kingambit can take on a large portion of the draft roster, it struggles into the best physicals walls like Great Tusk and Dondozo. Special attackers such as Spectrier (find different example since we ban spec), Tornadus-T (normally tera banned and without tera i wouldnt call it a breaker) and Enamorus-I are able to deal significant damage into the portion of the roster that Kingambit cannot, or force the normal checks to Kingambit to run less physical bulk which in turn allows it to perform better.

**Hazard setters**: Despite Kingambit's access to hazards, another Pokemon with access to Spikes, Toxic Spikes or Stealth Rocks can pair really well with it. This allows Kingambit to run another move to boost its offensive potential without having to miss out on some potential knockout damage rolls. Great examples of these partners include Iron Treads, Garchomp and Gliscor.

**Fairy / Flying types**: With a 4x super-effective STAB move and a resistance to Sucker Punch, most fighting types are a very good answer into Kingambit. Therefore, it will be very useful to draft a Pokemon that can withstand the Close Combats, Focus Blasts and High Jump Kicks that your opponent intends to send your way. Enamorus and Iron Valiant offer fantastic offensive potential into the Kingambit counters, and Zapdos, Clefable and Moltres can offer great defensive synergy.

**Pivots**: Even if Kingambit can heal off some of the incoming damage with Leftovers, it still benefits from being able to switch in safely. Fast pivots that can force a switch like Thundurus-I and Tornadus-T, along with slower pivots that can take a hit like Vaporeon and Gliscor can help Kingambit get into the perfect position.

Checks and Counters
========
**Special wallbreakers**: Kingambit's lower special defense leaves it open to strong special attacks. Frailer attackers can get picked off by a Sucker Punch, but Pokemon like Enamorus-I and Darkrai can resist the attack and deal massive damage back. Even Ursaluna-Bloodmoon can outspeed and nail Kingambit with a strong super effective Earth Power.

**Bulky physical walls**: With limited coverage, Kingambit struggles to make a dent in the best physical walls. Pokemon like Forretress, Great Tusk and Weezing can absorb its STAB and coverage moves very well, then threaten it back with big damage or a status condition.

**Flame Body / Static users**: The overwhelming majority of Kingambit's moves make contact. Therefore it makes it extremely susceptible to contact move abilities from Pokemon like Zapdos or Moltres. This can be neutralized by running Protective Pads or Lum Berry, but any Trick or Knock Off user can sabotage your protection.

**Fighting type attackers**: Fighting type moves are Kingambit's signature 4x weakness Kingambit is 4x weak to Fighting-types. On top of that, fighting type attackers like Mienshao and Iron Valiant resist its Sucker Punch and can threaten a one-hit KO back. Even Pokemon that have fighting type coverage moves like Landorus-I can expose Kingambit's biggest weakness.

**Overview**: Kingambit is one of the best physical attackers in the current format. sadly without tera, this just isnt true, its a strong physical attacker that can hit hard. end sentence. This behemoth's 135 attack stat combined with its great STAB moves in Iron Head and Kowtow Cleave allow it to punch a hole though any team you wish. id rewrite these first two sentences to highlight that its strong, that its bulky and that it has solid utility options. its realistically a slower metagross with a slightly worse defensive typing. you can mention that it has strong priority and great abilities here. Its slow base speed means it's extremely reliant on being able to take hits, but its high physical bulk and access to the strongest Sucker Punch in the game certainly mitigates this problem.

========
Kingambit is one of the best at its role: a bulky physical attacker. However, it fails to fulfil another role reliably on a team. Therefore when drafting this Pokemon, you'll want to make sure you can cover the other important necessary roles that compliment it well. rewrite this entirely, keep it inline w/ the new overview

**Special wallbreaker**: A natural partner to any physical wallbreaker. Whilst Kingambit can take on a large portion of the draft roster, it struggles into the best physicals walls like Great Tusk and Dondozo. Special attackers such as Keldeo, Chi-Yu and Enamorus-I are able to deal significant damage into the portion of the roster that Kingambit cannot, or force the normal checks to Kingambit to run less physical bulk which in turn allows it to perform better.

Fast pivots that can force a switch like Thundurus-I and Tornadus-T, along with slower pivots that can take a hit like Vaporeon and Gliscor can help Kingambit get into the perfect position.

all 4 of these are strictly speaking correct, but they oversell how good a physical attacker gambit is. u shouldnt be writing this as if gambits the best mon on the team try talk abt what kinda things ur team should have if ur gonna fit in a gambit, its rly not any better than metagross at any of its roles bar cleaner while having the massive fight weakness to contend with.

id cut the pivots section for this reason, any solid draft should have strong momentum

id also add a point on speed control, possibly how its works well to support the likes of sneasler, garchomp, latios

Checks and Counters
========
**Special wallbreakers**: Kingambit's lower special defense leaves it open to strong special attacks. Frailer attackers can get picked off by a Sucker Punch, but Pokemon like Enamorus-I and Darkrai can resist the attack and deal massive damage back. [overview]
**Draft order**: Round 4 onwards.

**Price range**: 12-13 points.

**Overview**: Kingambit is a very strong physical attacker. This Pokemon's 135 attack stat combined with Kingambit boasts a very strong Physical Attack of 135, which it combines with its great STAB moves in Iron Head and Kowtow Cleave, allowing it to put strong offensive pressure on the enemy team. As well as this, it It has good priority in Sucker Punch, and has decent utility in Thunder Wave and Taunt options to help support its team. Combining this with its bulky stats makes Kingambit incredibly annoying to prepare for. However, its slow base speed and its 4x Fighting-type weakness means it's extremely reliant on being able to take hits before dealing its damage.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Physical breaker**: When given a damage-boosting item, Kingambit can reliably deal massive damage to all but the biggest walls in the game.

A well-timed Swords Dance can be devastating for the opponent to deal with.

**Bulky utility**: Less common than the roles mentioned above but Kingambit can provide a utility role in games where its needed, removing a setup move in favor of clicking using moves such as Taunt or Thunder Wave for setup disruption or Stealth Rock for hazard setting when the team is in dire need of it. Furthermore, a Defiant Kingambit can deter the enemy from using Defog and Intimidate in on certain enemy Pokemon.
this isnt a tera gambit ultimately, it just doesnt have the setup opportunities of a tera one, and in the matchups where it does, it tends to miss the power boost of tera dark far too much. the support sets more than fine because of this so theres no need to downplay its viability

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Kowtow Cleave

**Setup moves**: Swords Dance

**Utility moves**: Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock. Substitute, Foul Play

**Coverage**: Brick Break, Low Kick, Poison Jab, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, X-Scissor, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========

========
**Resistance berries**: Steel-Dark is a fantastic type combination with very few weaknesses. Thus, Kingambit is a very reliable user of a resist berry, often times living a hit that is expected to KO it. Chople Berry is especially common, with some Pokemon carrying fighting coverage moves just to take on the Kingambit.

**Damage-Boosting Items**: Kingambit usually hates being locked into one move due to the mind games that come with Sucker Punch.

**Lum Berry**: Being burned is quite possibly a Kingambit player's biggest fear. Lum Berry allows it to ignore one connected Will-O-Wisp or Flame Body activation.

Niche Items
========
**Air Balloon**: Against a team with a reasonably threatening Earthquake/Earth Power user, an Air Balloon lets Kingambit ignore this threat for the beginning of the battle. This forces and enemy Pokemon to have to hit Kingambit with a potentially weaker move, whilst having to take a a strong hit in return.

**Protective Pads**: Kingambit has a ton of contact moves that it would like to make use of. If the opponent carrires bulky Flame Body, Static or Rocky Helmet users, then Kingambit may find it worthwhile to run Protective Pads to prevent the risk of unnecessary damage or a status condition.

Tera

Kingambit is usually tera banned. If you get the chance to use a tera-legal Kingambit, I both congratulate you and pray for your opponent's well-being. It should absolutely be one of your tera captains. Tera Dark is one popular choice, further boosting the power of STAB Kowtow Cleave or the priority Sucker Punch. Other great options include defensive teras, such as Fairy, Water and Flying to flip its defensive matchups on its head.

Draft Strategy
========
Kingambit is a very good bulky physical attacker. However whilst it can fulfil a support role, its value really comes from being able to fire its strong offensive moves into the enemy team. Many physical walls like Dondozo can reliably check Kingambit and therefore it relies a lot on a good partner like Zapdos to deal with them. same point i mentioned in roles; id word it something like "and can offer solid support options for a team. It fits best on teams that appreciate these roles, but do make sure that the team can cover its numerous weaknesses. You should expect to have at least of the following roles filled out before considering picking it." dont have to use my exact wording, but thats the gist of what we'd expect of a 12-13pt mon that isnt going r3 or earlier

**Special wallbreaker**: A natural partner to any physical wallbreaker. Whilst Kingambit can take on a large portion of the draft roster, it struggles into the best physicals walls like Great Tusk and Dondozo. Special attackers such as Keldeo, Chi-Yu and Enamorus-I are able to deal significant damage into the portion of the roster that Kingambit cannot to Kingambit's common checks, or force the normal checks them to Kingambit to run less physical bulk which in turn allows it to perform better.

Therefore, it will be very useful to draft a Pokemon that can withstand the fighting type attacks that Kingambit is weak to. Enamorus and Iron Valiant offer fantastic offensive potential into the Kingambit counters, and Zapdos, Clefable and Moltres can offer great defensive synergy.

**Fast attackers**: With good partners that fill in speed tiers the slow Kingambit cannot reach, offensive enemy Pokemon will feel pressured into investing more of its EVs into speed rather than bulk to move first against your team. This make the enemy team more frail, and allows Kingambit to perform its role as a cleaner more reliably, picking off the Faster enemies with Sucker Punch. Speedy Pokemon like Sneasler, Latios and Garchomp complement Kingambit well in this regard.

Checks and Counters
========
**Special wallbreakers**: Kingambit's lower special defense leaves it open to strong special attacks. Frailer attackers can get picked off by a Sucker Punch, but Pokemon like Enamorus-I and Darkrai can resist the attack and deal massive damage back.

Therefore it makes it extremely susceptible to contact move abilities from Pokemon like Zapdos or Moltres. This can be neutralized by running Protective Pads or Lum Berry, but this does come at the expense of your item slot.

**Fighting type attackers**: Kingambit is 4x weak to fighting types. On top of that, fighting type attackers like Mienshao and Iron Valiant resist its Sucker Punch and can threaten a one-hit KO back. Even Pokemon that have fighting type coverage moves like Meowscarada can expose Kingambit's biggest weakness.

QC 2/2 - Ultimately, non-Tera Kingambit isn't able to take on as many Pokémon as you'd expect it to. Also, reworded parts since we're talking about a R4 pick, not the centrepiece. Made a few GP edits too.

Hi, here's a GP amcheck. Feel free to use whatever you want.

[overview]
**Draft order**: Round 4 onwards (RP)

**Price range**: 12-13 points (RP)

**Overview**: Kingambit boasts a very strong Physical Attack of 135, which it combines with its great STAB moves in Iron Head and Kowtow Cleave, allowing it to put strong offensive pressure on the enemy team. As well as this, it has a good priority move (RC) and has decent utility options to help support its team. Combining this with its bulky stats makes Kingambit incredibly annoying to prepare for. However, its slow base speed Speed and its 4x Fighting-Type Fighting-type weakness means mean it's extremely reliant on being able to take hits before dealing its damage.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Physical breaker Wallbreaker**: When given a damage-boosting item, Kingambit can reliably deal massive damage to all but the biggest walls in the game. It threatens many Pokemon and forces them to switch out, including faster Pokemon for their fear of being hit by a strong STAB-boosted (AH) Sucker Punch.

**Setup sweeper Sweeper**: With access to Swords Dance, Kingambit can use Sucker Punch on the faster, frailer mons Pokemon and use its stronger STAB moves and coverage moves to take out the bulkier, slower mons Pokemon. A well-timed Swords Dance can be devastating for the opponent to deal with.

**Bulky utility Utility**: Kingambit can provide a utility role in games where it's (AA) needed, using moves such as Taunt or and Thunder Wave for disruption or Stealth Rock for entry hazard setting. Furthermore, a Defiant Kingambit can deter the enemy opponent from using running Defog and Intimidate on certain enemy Pokemon (clarity, reads as if Defog and Intimidate are being used against the enemy).

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Kowtow Cleave

**Setup moves**: Swords Dance

**Utility moves**: Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock. Substitute, Foul Play

**Coverage**: Brick Break, Low Kick, Poison Jab, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, X-Scissor, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========
**Lash Out**: Due to Kingambit's access to Defiant, Lash Out becomes a potentially strong STAB move that deals insane amounts of damage to anyone any Pokemon even attempting to lower its stats.

**Metal Burst**: A Metal Burst is a very uncommon move, but thanks to Kingambit's massive physical bulk, (AC) it can reliably use this move against opponents foes that would otherwise withstand its attacks.

Common Items
========
**Resistance berries Berries**: Steel-Dark Steel / Dark is a fantastic type combination with very few weaknesses. Thus, Kingambit is a very reliable user of a resist berry resistance Berry, often times living oftentimes surviving a hit that is expected to KO it. Chople Berry is especially common, with some Pokemon carrying fighting Fighting-type coverage moves just to take on the Kingambit.

**Damage-Boosting Items**: Kingambit usually hates being locked into one move due to the mind games that come with Sucker Punch. However, it does appreciate a damage-boosting (AH) item. This can be used to help Kingambit hit damage ranges that it otherwise would not.

**Leftovers**: As a slower attacker, Kingambit appreciates being able to stay on the field as long as possible. Lefties Leftovers can help Kingambit pull off a Swords Dance and sweep the entire enemy team.

**Lum Berry**: Being burned is quite possibly a Kingambit player's biggest fear. Lum Berry allows it to ignore one connected Will-O-Wisp or Flame Body activation.

Niche Items
========
**Air Balloon**: Against a team with a reasonably threatening Earthquake/Earth Power user, an Air Balloon lets Kingambit ignore this threat for the beginning of the battle. This forces and enemy Pokemon to have to hit Kingambit with a potentially weaker move (RC) whilst while having to take a a strong hit in return.

**Assault Vest**: This Pokemon's Kingambit's fantastic physical bulk unfortunately comes with weaker special bulk, with Kingambit's special defense being only 85 compared to its physical defense of 120 (dex info). Whilst While a setup move would usually be appreciated on Kingambit, an Assault Vest can be use used to let it take on some of the stronger special attackers in the game.

**Mental Herb**: Being a strong setup sweeper, Kingambit can naturally be blocked from sweeping by a non-prankster non-Prankster Encore or Taunt user. A Mental Herb helps let this Pokemon begin its sweep without being turned into a puppet (weird phrase for it- maybe just "manipulated") by the opponent.

**Choice Band**: In a matchup (RH) with weaker dark resists Dark-resistant Pokemon, the Choice Band item becomes a more viable item. Kingambit's already strong moves get boosted even further, making a switch-in switch-ins for it incredibly unreliable.

**Protective Pads**: Kingambit has a ton of contact moves that it would like to make use of. If the opponent carrires carries bulky Flame Body, Static, (AC) or and Rocky Helmet users, then Kingambit may find it worthwhile to run Protective Pads to prevent the risk of unnecessary damage or a status condition.

Tera
========
Kingambit is usually tera Tera banned. If you get the chance to use a tera-legal Tera-legal Kingambit, I both congratulate you and pray for your opponent's well-being.
