[OVERVIEW]

Durant has the unique combination of Hustle, First Impression, and a solid Speed stat, making it seem appealing as a niche wallbreaker and revenge killer, It's able to revenge kill common Pokemon like Nihilego and Cobalion, as well as OHKOing faster threats like Azelf, Choice Scarf Hydreigon, and Zygarde-10%. It also possesses other good attacks like Rock Slide to hit Salamence and Rotom-H, Superpower to KO Cobalion, and Iron Head to better threaten the likes of Nihilego, Mamoswine, and Hatterene. However, it's near-entirely outclassed by fellow Bug / Steel type Scizor, and to a lesser extent Cobalion. Besides those two providing utility options like pivoting, Knock Off, and Stealth Rock, both have much better defensive presences. In practice, Durant fails to come in safely and efficiently wallbreak, since it has poor bulk and can't significantly damage common Pokemon like Rotom-W and Slowking after it uses First Impression. It is also easily worn down through Life Orb recoil, Rocky Helmet users like Skarmory and Amoonguss, and entry hazards. Hustle also makes Durant incredibly inconsistent as a wallbreaker, and since it is incredibly frail, it is likely to be KOed in the same turn after missing a move.

[SET]
name: All-out Attacker

move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Superpower
item: Life Orb / Choice Band
ability: Hustle
nature: Jolly

[SET COMMENTS]

First Impression allows Durant to KO bulky Pokemon like Rotom-W and Slowking from high HP thresholds, and it forces out faster threats like Azelf, Lycanroc-D, and Choice Scarf Hydreigon. Bug Bite can be used over First Impression to hit Pokemon like Slowking and Tangrowth beyond the first turn, but losing out on First Impression makes Durant much worse at revenge killing Choice Scarf Hydreigon and Azelf. Iron Head is needed to threaten the likes of Nihilego and Hatterene and attain solid neutral coverage versus Hippowdon and Primarina. Rock Slide hits Fire- and Flying-types like Rotom-H, Salamence, Moltres, and Crobat. Salamence, however, isn't OHKOed by Rock Slide due to Intimidate, and it can KO back with Flamethrower or Hurricane. Superpower smashes Cobalion, as well as knocking out Skarmory and Chansey; while the former still needs sufficient chip damage to be OHKOed outright, Superpower at least deters it from switching in. Choice Band can be used over Life Orb for a higher power boost and no recoil damage, but locking Durant into any of its moves is easily exploitable. Choice Band does, however, make physical walls Skarmory and Hippowdon less safe as switch-ins. Hustle is required to give Durant the extra power it needs to break through or dent Pokemon like Chansey, Cobalion, and Hippowdon, but it still fails to KO Hippowdon and Skarmory. It is incredibly hard to make this set work, as Durant is heavily lacking in many other areas besides Speed and power, so trying to shore up its weaknesses through teammates is almost never worth the effort.

  • Durant is also slightly faster than Cobalion, letting it outspeed and KO it with Superpower. This point can be condensed with the above point. It could go something along the lines of "Durant has the unique combination of Hustle, First Impression, and a solid Speed stat, making it alluring as a niche wallbreaker and revenge killer able to revenge kill common Pokemon like Nihilego and Cobalion as well as threaten faster threats like Azelf and Choice Scarf Hydreigon."

  • talk about hustle's inconsistency, which makes it difficult to desire as a wallbreaker, especially considering durant's poor bulk
  • Durant is entirely outclassed by Scizor to boot, who possesses a similar typing and utility options like U-turn, Roost, and Knock Off, Bullet Punch + Technician, U-turn, Knock Off, and Roost, ultimately eliminating any sort of niche Durant would have. could also add how cobalion is a much better offensive steel-type as well

  • This set aims to maximize Durant's wallbreaking potential through utilizing Life Orb and maximum Speed and Attack investment, barely outspeeding Cobalion. It is left unable to break incredibly common Pokemon like Skarmory and Hippowdon. weird placement, i feel you can cover these points better below
  • First Impression allows Durant to significantly wear down bulky Water-types like Rotom-W and Slowking, and force out faster threats like Azelf, Lycanroc-D, and Choice Scarf Hydreigon.
  • Iron Head is needed to threaten the likes of Nihilego and Hatterene while also providing solid neutral coverage versus Hippowdon and Primarina.
  • Rock Slide hits Flying- and Fire-types like Rotom-H, Salamence, Moltres, and Crobat. Salamence, however, isn't OHKOed by Rock Slide due to Intimidate, and can KO back with Flamethrower or Hurricane.
  • Superpower destroys Cobalion, as well as knocking out Skarmory and Chansey after prior chip damage. 252 Atk Life Orb Hustle Durant Superpower vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Skarmory: 136-161 (40.7 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO . replace skarmory with another example or say it has to be heavily chipped
  • bring up why life orb would be used here after superpower, as switching up its moves with its decent coverage maximizes durant's efficiency
  • Choice Band can be used over Life Orb for a higher power boost without the recoil damage, but locking Durant into First Impression is easily taken advantage of. locking into any of its moves, especially first impression, makes durant easily taken advantage of. make sure to note this
  • talk about how hustle is needed to give durant power, but it still fails to get past Hippowdon and Skarmory and its chances to miss leave it unreliable as a wallbreaker
  • It is incredibly hard to make this set work, as Durant is heavily lacking in many other areas besides speed and power, meaning that trying to shore up its weaknesses through teammates is often never worth the effort. Scizor and Cobalion outclasses it, as it provides a lot more defensive utility and has more of an offensive presence with Swords Dance sets. make sure to adjust wording for plural stuff with the addition of cobalion

  • Durant is entirely outclassed by Scizor to boot, who possesses a similar typing and utility options like U-turn, Roost, and Knock Off, ultimately eliminating any sort of niche Durant would have. • First Impression allows Durant to significantly wear down bulky Water-types like Rotom-W given that the motto is kill or be killed with Durant, try to reword this to get across that it can KO rotom at decently high HP thresholds and Slowking, and force out faster threats like Azelf, Lycanroc-D, and Choice Scarf Hydreigon.
maybe a mention on bug bite as a reliable stab against slowking and Tangrowth but mention that losing first impression for azelf and Choice Scarf Hydreigon kind of sucks.
  • Superpower destroys Cobalion, as well as knocking out Skarmory and Chansey, though Skarmory has to be heavily chipped before it can KO.
252 Atk Life Orb Hustle Durant Superpower over 2 turns vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Skarmory: 227-269 (67.9 - 80.5%) -- not a KO
id try reword the skarmory bit about how it can at least deter it from switching in freely or risk getting 2HKOed but still mention that it needs sufficient chip. make the skarmory mention it its own sentence if that's easier.

  • Life Orb being used allows Durant to switch moves, maximizing its offensive potential.
  • Choice Band can be used over Life Orb for a higher power boost without the recoil damage, but locking Durant into any of its moves is easily exploitable taken advantage of. find some things to mention that choice band does that life orb cannot, like for example it makes skarmory less able to switch on it safely
  • Hustle is required to give Durant the extra power it needs to break through Pokemon like Chansey, but it still fails to KO Hippowdon and Skarmory. Hustle also makes moves more likely to miss, making Durant an incredibly inconsistent and unreliable wallbreaker. already mentioned in the overview, no need to go over this bit again. Furthermore, I would do a little bit of research on what else hustle makes a difference on as far as notable OHKOes or 2HKOes to emphasize why its a good ability for it over swarm, like for example it fails to OHKO cobalion with superpower without it
252 Atk Life Orb Durant Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cobalion: 242-286 (74.9 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Hustle Durant Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cobalion: 361-426 (111.7 - 131.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

  • It is incredibly hard to make this set work, as Durant is heavily lacking in many other areas besides speed and power, meaning that trying to shore up its weaknesses through teammates is often never worth the effort. Scizor and Cobalion outclass it, as they provide a lot more defensive utility and have more of an offensive presence with Swords Dance sets among both.
