How To Be A Good Presence In Lobby

A lot of Showdown users end up migrating to other rooms and never returning to Lobby, due to the conceivably poor quality of the chat, because of trolls, spammers, incorrect information, miscommunication, and some users not knowing how to appropriately respond to and ignore certain situations there as they happen. I think that highlighting a few important ways to be a good presence in Lobby in an article for The Player will not only give users an incentive to participate there without being driven away, but it will also in turn improve the quality of Lobby chat as a whole if enough people (The Player's audience) can get an idea of how to properly conduct themselves. This article will not be intended to serve as any sort of deterrent for spammers and trolls because they will obviously have the intent of trying to shit things up regardless.


Some things I want to cover are as follows:

• Ideas and tactics for promoting and contributing to healthy discussion

• Let staff do their job, respect their discretion and ignore spam and other misbehavior

• Some sarcasm/cynicism is obviously okay but know when enough is enough

• Nobody likes an asshole

• Take off-track arguments to PM, don't disturb chat by flaming because of a difference in opinion

• PM a staff member if you have a problem with a user, don't leak the issue into chat

• How to not annoy staff

• How to re-rail chat and keep disturbances from ruining it

• Something about Voice promotion to have an incentive for being a good/helpful presence
