Bored so random suggestions, based on what you're saying you like. Since you said you're liking Judas Priest, Mastodon, and Children of Bodom, I'll rec more heavy, sludge/progressive, and melodeath for each respectively, as well as my favorite album by each. Sorted by genre:

Name of album-band

Traditional/Heavy:
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
British Steel - Judas Priest
Strong Arm of the Law - Saxon
Powerslave - Iron Maiden
Lightning To The Nations - Diamond Head

Melodic Death:
Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amarth
End of the Weakness - Archeon
Wintersun - Wintersun
Whoracle - In Flames
The Gallery - Dark Tranquillity
Slaughter of the Soul - At the Gates
Made Me Do It - The Haunted
Follow the Reaper - Children of Bodom

Sludge (not the more ambient "post-metal" sludge though since you're just liking Mastodon so far):
Crack the Skye - Mastodon
Death Is This Communion - High on Fire (I personally prefer Surrounded By Thieves but I dunno how you'll take to that).

Can't really think of any other sludge bands that fall into a similar sound as Mastodon.

Progressive:
Operation: Mindcrime - Queensryche (or Empire, they're both really good)
Parallels - Fates Warning
AEnima - Tool (if you consider them metal, I know a lot of people don't)
Images and Words - Dream Theater
Blackwater Park - Opeth (prog-death)
The Divine Wings of Tragedy - Symphony X

Some albums from genres I like myself:

Thrash:
...And Justice For All - Metallica
Rust In Peace - Megadeth
Among the Living - Anthrax
Seasons In The Abyss - Slayer
Darkness Descends - Dark Angel
Spectrum of Death - Morbid Saint
Infernal Overkill - Destruction
Pleasure to Kill - Kreator
Agent Orange - Sodom
Nothingface - Voivod
To Mega Therion - Celtic Frost
The Legacy - Testament
Possessed by Fire - Exumer
This Godless Endeavor - Nevermore
Rigor Mortis - Rigor Mortis

I'll stop my thrash recs there before I list too much.

Black:
Now, Diabolical - Satyricon
At the Heart of Winter - Immortal
Mysteriis Dom Sathanas - Mayhem
Vertebrae - Enslaved
Welcome To Hell - Venom
Blood Fire Death - Bathory

Death:
Human - Death
Focus - Cynic (Traced In Air is superior but more proggy)
Altars of Madness - Morbid Angel
Here In After - Immolation
... For Victory - Bolt Thrower
Deicide - Deicide
Effigy - Suffocation

Enjoy.
