Welcome to the Grammar Prose Workshop v3! The previous version was outdated, so I've decided to repost it with some updated information and exercises. This workshop is where users can turn to learn more about the process known as Grammar and Prose, commonly referred to as "GP". This particular facet of Smogon handles the editing of written content to ensure that it is grammatically correct before going on-site. There are several areas where grammar checking is needed, including the following:

Areas Where GP Is Needed
Contributions & Corrections

Commonly abbreviated as C&C, this is the part of the site where Pokemon analyses and articles that dictate or explain relevant information for the many generations and tiers are written. The GP phase happens after the QC (Quality Control) phase, which fine-tunes the competitive quality of the content. After an analysis has received all its Quality Control checks (indicated by QC 3/3), the writer will change the thread tag to Copyediting and it's time for the writeup to go through GP, which consists of two checks. After the writer of the analysis has implemented two GP checks, the analysis is generally ready for upload.
The Flying Press

The spiritual successor to The Smog, The Flying Press releases individual articles about a variety of topics relating to Smogon, from Pokemon spotlights to tournament coverage to PS room overviews. Note that the GP standards for The Flying Press are more relaxed than in C&C. Also, unlike C&C, The Flying Press's writing workshop is not public; you must have permission to view it, which is usually only given through having an article approved in the submission phase or becoming part of the official GP or HTML team.

Once an article's thread tag changes to Grammar, the writer is done with the article and is now awaiting your edits. After the writer of the article has implemented two GP checks, the article must have HTML done, and then it is generally ready for publishing. Be advised that art may come to a project at any time of these projects and has no bearing on the order of phases therein.

The Tricks of the Trade
In addition to knowing basic grammar (including, most notably, punctuation and parallelism), PokeGrammar is also very important, especially considering that pretty much everything you would GP check here will contain at least some. Here are some common examples of correct ways to use PokeGrammar here at Smogon:
  • Fire-type is the correct way to identify a Pokemon's typing by using an adjective or a noun. When talking about the type itself, as in "Torkoal and Charizard are of the Fire type," the hyphen is not needed. Fire typing is fine just like this with no hyphen.

  • OHKO is the term used here to indicate a one-hit-KO, or an attack that causes a foe to faint in one blow. 2HKO, 3HKO, and so on are used to indicate how many hits it takes. When pluralizing this, knowing the difference is important. OHKOs is used when referring to kills themselves as nouns. OHKOes is used when it's an action, as in "Fire Blast OHKOes Ferrothorn." OHKOed can refer to the kills themselves as past tense, such as in "Fire Blast OHKOed Ferrothorn on turn 1."

  • Mega Evolutions and the act of Mega Evolving are capitalized and do not contain hyphens anywhere. Mega Mewtwo X is the correct way to write this, for instance.

  • All Pokemon names, moves, items, abilities, names of stats, areas in-game, and otherwise proper nouns are always capitalized. Klinklang, Life Orb, Speed Boost, Special Defense, and Pallet Town are written as such. It's important to note that evasion and accuracy are lowercase, however.
A full list of the criteria the GP team follows can be found here (I suggest bookmarking it). This will require practice to become totally familiar. If you've lurked here on Smogon for a while, a lot of the common terms and usage of the terms should be somewhat second-nature by now, which is a huge benefit. If you haven't lurked very much, not to worry; this is a task that becomes easier with experience because there's a lot of repetition. It won't take long to catch on even though it may seem like a ton.

fleurdyleurse has compiled an extensive list of notes for new GPers to use as a reference as well, which can be found here.

A guide to making subjective GP changes can be found here.

Additionally, as the place you'll be getting your practice in will be the C&C forum, you'll need to familiarize yourself with the correct set format for Generation VII, which can be found here. Looking around in the C&C forum will let you find examples of how this is used, and you will catch on easily. The reason this is so important to know is that the format will cause the upload to be rejected if there is even one thing wrong with the set format. The mods and site staff will be able to catch these errors, but knowing it yourself saves them the trouble and also makes you more handy as a GP checker to have around.

Applying Your Knowledge As Contribution

Before being accepted as an official member of the GP team, you'll obviously need to prove that you have what it takes to fit the bill. The best way to show your skills here is to do what we call amchecks, or amateur checks. These can be posted in any analysis after it reaches the Copyediting phase as indicated by the thread tag. The writer is not required to implement your changes, but they are allowed to, and it's not uncommon for an official GPer to come behind you and validate your work or give you a few pointers to help you improve. Keep in mind, however, that your amchecks do not count as official checks and thus do not count toward the completion of the Copyediting phase, unless an official GPer stamps your work to indicate that it is satisfactory (which is huge if that happens). However, official GPers will not always go over amchecks and may go on and just post an official one. Remember that you cannot leave placeholders for amchecks, as they are not official; also, make sure the writer knows it's an amcheck to avoid confusion. Amchecks can be done in The Flying Press if you already have access for another reason.

When you do checks of your own, you'll want to do is establish a key at the top of your amcheck post first and foremost, which indicates what colors mean to add and remove content, and you can use them to indicate other things as well, including side comments, capitalization, and so on.

An example of this is as follows:

[OVERVIEW]

Zangoose is one of the most effective wall breakers and late-game sweepers in the NU metagame. Zangoose also shines as one of the best possible sweepers for Sticky Web-based teams. After just a single turn needed to activate toxic boost, Zangoose has more initial power than most Pokemon in the tier. Its power can be bolstered further with Swords Dance, although Zangoose's poor bulk and lack of resistnces makes it difficlut for it to find a time to set up. This forces Zangoose to rely on double switches, and pivoting moves in order to switch in safely. Despite Zangoose's excellent offensive moves in Facade, Knock Off, and Close Combat Zangoose's base 90 speed is merely above-average. Thankfully, Quick Attack and Sticky Web support can make up for this flaw, making Zangoose one of the top offensive threats in the tier.

[OVERVIEW]

Zangoose is one of the most effective wall breakers wallbreakers and late-game sweepers in the NU metagame,(replace period with comma) Zangoose and it also shines as one of the best possible sweepers for Sticky Web-based teams (you should probably add Sticky Web users to Team Options below). After just a single turn needed to activate toxic boost Toxic Boost, Zangoose has more initial power than most Pokemon in the tier. Its power can be bolstered further with Swords Dance, although Zangoose's poor bulk and lack of resistnces resistances makes it difficlut difficult for it to find a time to set up. This forces Zangoose to rely on double switches,(RC) and pivoting moves in order to switch in safely. Despite Zangoose's excellent offensive moves in Facade, Knock Off, and Close Combat,(AC) its Zangoose's base 90 speed Speed is merely above-(remove dash, add space)average (even for NU haha). Thankfully, Quick Attack and Sticky Web support can make up for this flaw, making Zangoose one of the top offensive threats in the tier.
As you might have guessed, (AC) and (RC) are short for add comma and remove comma, respectively. These are commonly used at Smogon in addition to the punctuation change simply because a color change on something so small can be easy to overlook otherwise. Comments you make, as indicated by your key, are not implemented and you can use them to convey thoughts you have throughout the read as you are checking. The example comment here regarding adding Sticky Web to Team Options is assuming that the writer left it out, and their mention of Sticky Web mitigating one of Zangoose's flaws is a good place to bring that to their attention.

You can use any colors you like, though I recommend at least starting with blue and red, especially since red is extremely easy to indicate that something is incorrect and casts out all confusion early on.

After you have 3 or so solid amchecks, you can submit an application to join the GP team by messaging martha, P Squared, and The Dutch Plumberjack a submission including proof of your GP abilities. They will either tell you how you can improve, ask for more examples before they come to a decision, or add you to the GP team. If you'd like for an official GPer to look over your work, you can inquire about this in #questions on the GP Discord, which can be found here. The GP Discord is the best way to meet other GPers and amcheckers as well as recieve feedback and answers from others.

Time to Practice!

Below are some exercises that contain several errors. Test yourself here first if you'd like by providing GP editions of these examples to correct where they are wrong. Some have more identifiable mistakes than others, and some may need to be completely reworded.

Maximum attack investment and an Adamant Nature lets Muk-Alola deal as much damage as possible while max SpD EVs with an AV gives Muk a very respectable amount of Special bulk to check Pokémon such as Chandelure, Latias or Gengar more effectively. A Brave Nature should be used if running Fire Blast as it doesn't lower it's special attack. Poison Touch gives all of Muk-Alola's contact attacks an additional chance to Poison opponents.

Tsareena works best on Offensive teams that appreciate a Pokemon that can break through most Defensive cores as it is able to 1HKO Quagsire, and 1HKO Alomomola after Rocks. Tsareena is relatively slow so teammates such as Scarf Infernape, Scarf Hydreigon or Aerodactyl-Mega that can revenge-kill faster threats for Tsareena are useful. Pokemon such as Scizor and Nidoking are good Poison Resists that can help Tsareena against the majority of Poison Types that can freely switchin to it. In return, Tsareena can hit Psychic Types with Knock Off, and help against Water and Ground Types for Nidoking. It also appreciates hazard support from Rockers like Cobalion or Swampert, so it can wear down potential checks, can damage Rocks weak Pokemon like Moltres and further pressure opponents.

Bronzong is able to check a large amount of threats in the tier such as Wall-breakers and Sweepers like Flygon, Glalie-Mega, Dragalge, Minior and Comfey, thanks to its amazing Psychic-/Steel-typing; which grants it 9 resistances and an immunity. Bronzong's Levitate ability also gives it immunity to what would otherwise be a weakness leaving it with just three weaknesses and its high Defensive stats allows it to check many Specially-Offensive Pokemon such as Swellow, Gardevoir, Diancie and the recently introduced Necrozma. Bronzong is also a solid setter of Stealth rocks thanks to it's great Bulk. A very low speed stat of 30 both hurts it and helps it, Bronzong will almost always be taking a hit before moving, however it also increases the power of its Gyro Ball.

Pystrike is a strong STAB and hits Pokémon that don't resist it and hits Special walls like Blissey on their defense. It also chips some of Mewtwos switchins like Ho-oh and Primal-Groudon. Ice Beam OHKOs Mega Salamence and Rayquaza, and hitting Yveltal, Arceus Ground, Zygarde-Complete, Ultra Necrozma, and both Giratina forms hard. Fire Blast is very important for hitting Dusk-Mane-Necrozma that resists most of Mewtwo's moves and certain other Psychic resists, such as Steel types like Mega-Scizor, Ferothorn, Celesteela, Magearna and Aegislash. Focus Blast hits Steel Types like Dialga, and lures Dark Types like Tyranitar, Darkrai and Arceus-Dark. Alternately, Calm Mind gives Mewtwo the ability to setup and potentially sweep and can OHKO and 2HKO most Pokemon after a boost. Also, Shadow Ball can be used as well to kill Lunala and hit a large amount of switchins in one moveslot.

Ground types such as Landorus therian, Garchomp and Swampert-mega are a problem for tapu Koko as they are immune to Electric STAB, and can OHKO with EQ, however they can be killed by Dazzling gleam or HP ice. Choice Specs let Tapu koko hit hard, but lock you into 1 move unless you switch out. Pokemon who have high Special defence like Chansey are also a problem because it lives all of it's attacks. Tapu Koko is very fast with 130 base spe so it is hard to revenge-kill unless you have a scarfer.

Garchomp has a really good Dragon/Ground-typing and Rough Skin which allows it to damage you when you make contact. Fairies can switch-in to Garchomp since Outrage doesn't effect them but they must be weary of Earthquake. Garchomp can also setup Stealth Rocks to weaken the opponent when they switch. It can run a Defensive set, and can also utilise a Z-Earthquake set with SD and an Adamant Nature, so that it OHKOs things like Heatran.

Thanks to its great bulk and useful Grass / Steel-typing Ferrothorn is one of the best entry hazard setters in ubers. It fairs very well against defoggers such as Lati@s, especially if it runs Toxic. Also, Toxic is useful for support Arceus forms and Giratina-Origin. Also, with the combination of Iron Barbs, Spikes, Leech Seed and Toxic, Ferrothorn can easily wear down opponents for a teammate to clean up later. It does have some flaws, however. Ferrothorn is rendered useless by Taunt, very slow, and has a nasty x4 weakness to Fire.

There are a few options for the last moveslot. Flamethrower heavily damages Steel types such as Scizor and Excadrill, while Ice Beam lures in and OHKOs Specially Defensive Glicsor. Psyschock deals more damage to Chansey, as it hits on the other side of the spectrum. Finally, Thunder Wave is a great utility move that cripples many of Clefable's checks, including Talonflame, Scizor and Megagross.

It's best to setup DD towards the end of the game, when Mega Charizard-X's checks and counters are out of play or have been weakened enough to be picked off after a boost. Charizard-X should set up on a Pokemon that it forces out, such as Mega Scizor and Celebi, or against Electric-types such as Manectric-Mega and Raikou. Rotom-Wash is an easy target to setup on if it is running HP investment, as it can't 2HKO Charizard-X with hydro pump, and is stalled out with Roost. Make sure you avoid Thunder Wave from pokemon like Cresselia, Thundurus (which also has Prankster) and Mega-Slowbro as paralys cuts Mega Charizard-X's speed in half, making it suspectible to a higher amount of revengers.

Mew is an extremely versatile Pokemon because it can learn every TM and HM in the game. Furthermore, Mew is the only Defogger in the metagame with access to Will-O-Wisp and no Stealth Rock weakness, which lets it cripple Defiant users such as Bisharp by halving their Attack. Overall, Mew has good offensive and defensive stats but is not really that outstanding when compared to bulkier Psychic-types such as Mega Slowbro, regular Slowbro, and Cresselia. Mew also has access to a form of reliable recovery in Soft-Boiled, which contributes to Mew's longevity on the field. Synchronize is a useful ability for Mew, because it can can punish status users if they inflict status on Mew. It can also provide utility against Scald burns. However, Mew's typing is subpar, which leaves it very vulnerable to common Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-types, such as Scizor, Gengar, and Mega Gyarados. Mew also has four-moveslot syndrome because it cannot benefit from all move options it learns.

As an additional aside for people who are willing to do the exercises:

Please do not be afraid to try the longer / more difficult ones! Many analyses that are written and put into the GP stage will be of that caliber as well. Attempting to check the more difficult and lengthy exercises can give you more practice, AND doing them also allows GPers to better gauge your current abilities and give you more advice and more in-depth tips!

Yoshi

IT'S FINK DUMBASS
So this is going to be a lot of fun to do! To not overwhelm myself, I'm going to do three of these a day until they've run out. Let me know if I should just edit them into this post or if I can make separate posts.

(RC) = Remove Comma
(RSC) = Remove Semicolon
(RH) = Remove Hyphen

(AP) = Add Period
(AC) = Add Comma

Maximum attack investment and an Adamant Nature lets Muk-Alola Alolan Muk deal as much damage as possible, (AC) while max SpD Special Defense EVs with an AV Assault Vest gives Muk Alolan Muk a very respectable amount of Special special bulk to check Pokémon Pokemon such as Chandelure, Latias or and Gengar more effectively. A Brave Nature nature should be used if running Fire Blast as it doesn't does not (I feel that this flows better, also is more professional) lower it's its special attack. Poison Touch gives all of Muk-Alola's Alolan Muk's contact attacks moves (sounds better, but this is subjective) an additional chance to Poison poison opponents.

Tsareena works best on Offensive offensive teams that appreciate a Pokemon that can break through most Defensive defensive cores as it is able to 1HKO OHKO Quagsire, (RC) and 1HKO OHKO Alomomola after Rocks Stealth Rock damage. Tsareena is relatively slow so teammates such as Scarf Infernape, Scarf Hydreigon or Aerodactyl-Mega Mega Aerodactyl that can revenge-kill (RH) faster threats for Tsareena are useful. It also appreciates hazard support from Rockers Stealth Rock users like Cobalion or Swampert, so it can wear down potential checks, can damage Rocks Stealth Rock weak Pokemon like Moltres and further pressure opponents.

Bronzong is able to check a large amount of wall breakers and sweepers in the tier such as Flygon, Mega Glalie, Dragalge, Minior, and Comfey thanks to its amazing Psychic and Steel typing, which grants it nine resistances and an immunity. (I reworded this sentence since it doesn't flow well. Some changes to note is that you don't capitalize wallbreakers, and no hyphen is needed. Same with sweepers. Mega Glalie > Glalie-Mega. Removed comma since not necessary. When talking about a Pokemon's typing, you don't need hyphens. The semicolon didn't make sense, a comma should've been there instead. Lastly, you generally want the word version of a number rather than the numerical version, if you can use it, therefore nine > 9.) Bronzong's Levitate ability ability Levitate also gives it an immunity to Ground-type attacks, what would otherwise be a weakness (this is more specific and clear) leaving it with just three weaknesses. (AP) (These are two very separate clauses / points) and its Its high Defensive stats Special Defense stat (since you only talked about special attackers here I changed it to Special Defense rather than the general overall bulk) allows it to check many Specially-Offensive special attackers Pokemon such as Swellow, Gardevoir, Diancie and the recently introduced Necrozma. Bronzong is also a solid setter of Stealth rocks Bronzong is also a solid Stealth Rock setter (rolls off the tongue better) thanks to it's its great amazing bulk (this is subjective, but I think amazing rolls off the tongue better in this situation.) Bulk. A very low speed stat of 30 both hurts it and helps it, Bronzong will almost always be taking a hit before moving. it also increases the power of its Gyro Ball. A low Speed stat of 30 both hurts and helps Bronzong. It will almost always have to take a hit before moving, but on the other hand, the low Speed stat helps increase the power of Gyro Ball. (I changed the wording a bit of this last couple of sentences to make sure that it sounded proper and so that it rolls off the tongue better.)

Hey Yoshizilla315
thanks for trying out these new exercises, im gonna go over your checks and comment on what i think is great and what could be changed. as a starter im just gonna say that it already looks very good, so props!

muk said:
Maximum attack investment and an Adamant Nature
alright so two things here. First is that stats are capitalised, so it should be Attack. this includes other stats like Defense, Special Defense, HP, etc. only exception that might pop up is Speed, which can be uncapitalised in certain situations where they're not talking about the stat but about the idea of speed in general (e.g. Alolan Muk's power and speed).
second thing here is that the word nature is uncapitalised, so it should be 'an Adamant nature'. this goes for all instances.
muk said:

pretty much everything here is perfect. great catches on Muk-Alola to Alolan Muk, the comma for while, SpD -> Special Defense, Special -> special, and AV -> Assault Vest. also good job on the Muk -> Alolan Muk but i am a bit confused on why you crossed out the muk and added alolan muk when you couldve just added Alolan before the original muk
there are just a few things that could have been changed, which ill point out now
- max should probably be maximum, write out words where possible but not absolute
- removing EVs wasnt very necessary, but its not wrong so its fine
everything else is great!
muk said:

great catch on removing the pokemon accent and good job changing or to and, only thing here to change is to add a comma after Latias because smogon uses the serial comma, i.e. the comma before 'and' in a list
[/quote=muk]A Brave Nature nature should be used if running Fire Blast as it doesn't does not (I feel that this flows better, also is more professional) [/quote]
you caught the Nature -> nature here, good job
doesn't to does not is more professional but smogon isnt professional to the point that we dont use contractions, so keep in mind that contractions are alright to keep, doesn't also personally flows better because i mean thats what contractions do
the biggest thing here is that there should be a comma before the word 'as'. if you see the words 'as' or 'since' in the place of 'because', add a comma before them. this goes for all instances of as and since if they mean because.
muk said:
lower it's its special attack. Poison Touch gives all of Muk-Alola's Alolan Muk's contact attacks moves (sounds better, but this is subjective) an additional chance to Poison poison opponents.
great job on the it's -> its catch. also good job on alolan muk and the capitalisation of Poison -> poison, status effects are never capitalised.
- the subjective change of attacks -> moves. while i personally prefer moves over attacks but whats important is that we keep the author's voice as much as possible. what this infers is that we shouldnt make subjective changes if they dont make the writing strictly better, and "sounds better" isnt really a good reason to change something that, well, doesn't actually change much. if making a subjective change, ask yourself "what reason do i have for making this change?" if you cant come up with one, dont change it. theres a great guide on making subjective changes in the c&c forum that all amcheckers should read.
more minor things are the capitalisation of stats again (special attack should be Special Attack) and the distinction between opponents and foes. all you gotta remember is that opponents are the people you're playing, i.e. the humans, while the foes are the pokemon they're using. so in this scenario, it should be foes because i really hope ur not trying to poison your friends..
great job otherwise, this check in general was very good and you should continue going like this and improving
onto tsareena

perfect except for the comma before as, which i already covered earlier. great work on capitalisation, usage of OHKO, and writing out Stealth Rock.

a bit more stuff than last time, we'll get the minor stuff out of the way first
- good job on aerodactyl-mega to mega aerodactyl
- item names should be written out fully. in this case, it should be Choice Scarf Infernape, Choice Scarf Hydreigon. so no specs pelipper and chople tyranitar, should be choice specs pelipper and chople berry tyranitar.
- the serial comma again, comma after hydreigon in a list
- the or should be changed to and after hydreigon, you caught this last time in the muk check but to give a short rundown, 'x, y, and z' is plural, while 'x, y, or z' is singular
the big one here is that 'so' should have a comma before it. so should ALWAYS have a comma before it if it means 'as a result', which it almost always does. the ONLY instance in which you should not have a comma before so is if it means 'so that'. for example, take these sentences:
- Tsareena is relatively slow, so teammates such as.
it means 'as a result' here.
- Tsareena runs High Jump Kick so it can nail Steel-types.
it means 'so that' here, so no comma.
great work otherwise.

now im not really sure what you did here, im gonna guess that you knew it was wrong but didnt know what to replace it with. you removed 'Resists' and 'Poison Types' but didnt add anything to replace them. it's good that you picked up on both because they are both wrong; 'resists' should never be used as a noun and should only be used as a verb, and 'Poison-resistant Pokemon' and 'Pokemon that resist Pokemon' are both fine substitutes.
good job on removing the hyphen in revenge kill
Poison Types should be Poison-types, this goes for all types and you seem to have picked it up with psychic water and ground later on
good job on the correct usage of switch into! you got it here, most people arent that good with it but you did great.
tsareena said:

as already mentioned, good job on the formatting for -types. there's only one issue here but it's quite a large and important one: independent and dependent clauses and comma usage.
there should be no comma after knock off. when you have two clauses linked by a conjunction like 'and', 'but', or 'or', there should only be a comma if and only if BOTH clauses are independent clauses. an independent clause is basically that the clause is a complete sentence on its own. if either clause is dependent, i.e. it cant be a sentence on its own, there cannot be a comma. take these examples:
I like milk, and I also eat fruit.
there is a comma there before the conjunction, so let's see if both clauses are independent.
I like milk. I also eat fruit.
yes! so the comma is there to stay.
I like milk, and also eat fruit.
let's try it with full stops.
I like milk. Also eat fruit.
so the second sentence cannot be on its own because it just doesn't make sense. so no comma there!
I like milk and also eat fruit.
i hope you understand but it's fine if you don't, it's a little complex so no worries because you'll get it in time if you don't now

It also appreciates hazard support from Rockers Stealth Rock users like Cobalion or Swampert, so it can wear down potential checks, can damage Rocks Stealth Rock weak Pokemon like Moltres and further pressure opponents.
there are a few big issues here, but good job on the rockers -> stealth rock users and rock -> stealth rock. ill first go over the things i went over already
- it should be cobalion and swampert because stealth rock users is plural. another alternative change is changing stealth rock users to 'a stealth rock user' and keeping the or.
- here we have commas and so again. here, the 'so' means 'so that', which means there should be no comma.
- there should be the serial comma because this is a list, so comma after moltres.
- it should be foes not opponents, because you're pressuring the pokemon not the human. or the robot. or whatever youre battling idc
Heres the big one.
- Stealth Rock weak Pokemon should be changed to Stealth Rock-weak Pokemon. the hyphen represents what we call compound adjectives. this means two words used in one adjective to describe something. let's use a classic example courtesy of p squared:
The red hot kettle was boiling.
straight off the bat we can tell this is vague. 'red hot'? does that mean 'red hot' like 'it's so hot that it's red', or does it mean that it's both 'red' and 'hot'?
to clarify this, we can add a hyphen. red-hot.
this makes it clear that we are talking about the kettle being 'so hot that it's red'.
however! we do NOT add this hyphen if the adjective is not BEFORE the subject. for example:
- the cold-blooded villain was very evil.
this is correct. cold and blooded should have a hyphen between them.
- the villain was very cold-blooded.
this is not correct. there should be no hyphen because the only reason we needed the hyphen was to clear any vague things, but there arent any vague things here, so it should be cold blooded.
another pretty complex topic, but great job on this exercise overall.

Lastly, you generally want the word version of a number rather than the numerical version, if you can use it, therefore nine > 9.)
great job on pretty much everything you listed out in your comment. capitalisation of wallbreakers and sweepers, mega pokemon formatting, removing the comma, removing the hyphens from typing, changing the semicolon to a comma, and writing out numbers to words up to 10. there are a few small issues in this though. you also caught the serial comma, which is good to see.
wall breakers should not have a space in between the words. pretty easy to understand, one word, wallbreakers.
when talking about a pokemon's dual typing, use slashes to denote as such: Steel / Psychic. spaces and the slash are important. take note of the fact that i also said Steel / Psychic and not Psychic / Steel. order matters when talking about typings, and bronzong's primary type is steel, so that should come first.
the other thing is amount vs number. Use the word 'number' when denoting quantifiable things, i.e. you can 'count' them. think 10 people, 10 chicken nuggets, 10 mountains. use 'number' for these.
use 'amount' when describing things that are measurable. think amount of water, amount of chlorine, amount of cheese. these can be measured in things like milligrams, kilograms, millilitres, etc.
in this instance it should be 'number' not 'amount' because you can 'count' the number of threats it checks.

Bronzong's Levitate ability ability Levitate also gives it an immunity to Ground-type attacks, what would otherwise be a weakness (this is more specific and clear) leaving it with just three weaknesses. (AP)
good job on this, everything except the first change is fine. levitate ability, ability levitate, they're both the same thing. dont need to change it because it doesnt change the meaning, the flow, the wording, it doesnt do much that wasnt already there. not necessary.

(These are two very separate clauses / points) and its Its high Defensive stats Special Defense stat (since you only talked about special attackers here I changed it to Special Defense rather than the general overall bulk) allows it to check many Specially-Offensive special attackers Pokemon such as Swellow, Gardevoir, Diancie and the recently introduced Necrozma.
i agree with the first change, and you had a good reason for it so props. i also like that you changed defensive stats to special defense stat and provided a good reasoning for it as well, so great job on those.
- once again, serial comma after diancie needs to be added
- the other thing here is generational shifts. try not to talk about things that indicate a generational shift, like 'Necrozma's new access to Photon Geyser'. in this case, remove 'the recently introduced'. it doesnt add much and we don't want to reference older generations in our analyses.
zong said:
Bronzong is also a solid setter of Stealth rocks Bronzong is also a solid Stealth Rock setter (rolls off the tongue better)
not really necessary. 'solid setter of Stealth Rock' works just as well as 'a solid Stealth Rock setter', so this subjective change wasn't needed. the only necessary change here was rocks -> Rock
zong said:
thanks to it's its great amazing bulk (this is subjective, but I think amazing rolls off the tongue better in this situation.)
yeah diction is important but great has the same meaning as amazing in this sense. ALSO this is really important. bronzong doesn't really have what i'd call 'amazing bulk'. it has 'great bulk', but it's not 'amazing'. amazing is something like toxapex or registeel. bronzong's 116s are good but not amazing and that's what really makes this change not good imo. if this was something like toxapex id agree with you that great undersells it a bit but 'rolls off the tongue better' isn't a good reason especially since it's a bit misinforming.
zong said:
Bulk.
- the big thing here is actually checking pokemon facts. bronzong has a speed stat of 33 not 30, so make sure that as a checker you're on the lookout for small things like that. everything you changed is technically correct and fine, but you changed a bit more than i would have liked. be careful with subjective changes in general, they're the big killers of all amcheckers.

In general I think you have a good eye for objective changes and seem to know most of your Smogon grammar standards, which I think is great. You also seem to have a good grasp on general grammar rules and just need a bit of polishing up to make sure you understand the more complex topics clearly. A mentor will be really good in that sense. Subjective changes are a bit of a weak point for you but that really just comes with experience. After checking more, you'll know when and what to change, and I'm sure you'll get it soon. Overall a great effort from you and I can't wait to see you amchecking more, so good luck in the future![/quote][/quote]

Hi Stan Soojung! I'm here to review your exercises.

Muk:
Maximum attack Attack investment and an Adamant Nature lets Muk-Alola Alolan Muk deal as much damage as possible, (AC) while max SpD maximum Special Defense EVs with an AV Assault Vest gives Alolan Muk a very respectable amount of Special special bulk; (ASC) allowing it to check Pokémon Pokemon such as Chandelure, Latias, (AC) or and Gengar more effectively.
Most of your changes were good. Stats like "Attack" should be capitalized, "Alolan Muk", "maximum Special Defense", and "Assault Vest" are correct, and yeah "special" should be lowercase. Pokemon should be written without the accent, and since "Pokemon" is plural in this instance, you were correct in changing "or" to "and". You are also correct on adding a comma before "while". "While" with no comma before it means essentially "at the same time", and "while" with a comma before it means "whereas". It's very important to remember this difference! A few things to look out for:
  • this is minor, but "nature" should be lowercase
  • your addition of the semicolon and the following change was incorrect. A semicolon is used to separate two independent clauses (a part of a sentence that can stand alone in its own sentence and be grammatically correct) without using a conjunction. "allowing it to check Pokemon such as Chandelure, Latias, and Gengar more effectively" doesn't work in it's own sentence. You would have to add a comma instead ("...special bulk, allowing it to..."). Also, the change wasn't necessary anyway. "...while maximum Special Defense EVs with an Assault Vest gives Alolan Muk a very respectable amount of special bulk to check Pokemon..." was fine as is imo.
A Brave Nature nature should be used if running Fire Blast, (AC) as it doesn't lower it's special attack its Special Attack. Poison Touch gives all of Muk-Alola's Alolan Muk's contact attacks an additional chance to Poison opponents foes.
You made "nature" lowercase here so I guess you missed the other one? Anyway, "Special Attack" should be capitalized, and yep always a comma before "as" or "since" if it's being used to mean because.
  • One thing to note is that "its Special Attack" should be "Alolan Muk's Special Attack". Right now, that "it" is referring to the Brave nature (this is because the Brave nature doesn't lower the special attack: "...as [the Brave nature] doesn't lower..."). By keeping "its", you make the sentence say "A Brave nature should be used if running Fire Blast, as [the Brave nature] doesn't lower [the Brave nature's] Special Attack." So yeah it should be "Alolan Muk's Special Attack".

Tsareena:
Tsareena works best on Offensive offensive teams that appreciate a Pokemon that can break through most Defensive defensive cores, (AC) as it is able to 1HKO OHKO Quagsire, (RC) and 1HKO OHKO Alomomola after Rocks Stealth Rock damage.
All of your changes were great!! "Offensive" and "defensive" should be lower case, "OHKO" is the correct term, it should be "Stealth Rock damage", and again, always a comma preceding "as" or "since" if they're used to mean "because". The removal of the comma after "Quagsire" is also correct because it is a splice comma (the addition of a comma before the conjunction that is separating the first clause from a dependent clause).
Tsareena is relatively slow, (AC) so teammates such as Choice Scarf Infernape, Choice Scarf Hydreigon, (AC) or Aerodactyl-Mega and Mega Aerodactyl that can revenge-kill (remove hyphen) faster threats for Tsareena are useful.
Again, all of these changes were excellent. "Scarf" isn't allowed and it should be "Choice Scarf", "revenge kill" has no hyphen, Smogon uses the Oxford/serial comma, and "teammates" is plural so it should be "and" in the list. Also, great change in adding the comma before "so". "So" without a comma before it means "with the aim/goal that", while "so" with a comma before it means "therefore". It's great that you were able to spot it.
Pokemon such as Scizor and Nidoking are good Poison Resists resists that can help Tsareena against the majority of Poison Types Poison-types (add hyphen and 'T' in types isn't capitalized) that can freely switchin switch into it. In return, Tsareena can hit Psychic Types Psychic-types with Knock Off, and help against Water- (add hypen) and Ground Types Ground-types for Nidoking.
"Poison-types" is correct, and it should be "freely switch into it", which you changed too. Your changes in the second sentence were all good. You definitely know the type formatting.
  • Ok so "resists" cannot be used as a noun to refer to Pokemon. You would have to say "...Scizor and Nidoking resist Poison and can help...".
  • You missed a splice comma in the second sentence. "Tsareena can hit Psychic-types" with Knock Off and help against..." should be how the sentence reads.
It also appreciates hazard support from Rockers Stealth Rock users like Cobalion or and Swampert, so it can wear down potential checks, (RC) can and damage Rocks Stealth Rock weak Pokemon like Moltres and further pressure opponents foes.
Good job in changing "Rockers" to "Stealth Rock users". "Stealth Rock setters" would have also been good. Yeah "users" is plural so the "or" should be and". You also got rid of the splice comma here, and yep "foes" refers to the enemy Pokemon, so you're good there.
  • This is nitpicky, but some GPers like putting the word "entry" before "hazard" if it's the first use of the term, and we generally do that once per section.
  • The "so" rule comes into play here. That "so" is being used to mean "with the aim/goal that" ("It also appreciates Stealth Rock support... with the aim that it can wear down..."), so there shouldn't be a comma before it.
  • The term should be "Stealth Rock-weak" with a hyphen, since that is a compound adjective that modifies and precedes "Pokemon".

Overall, you seem to be familiar with both Smogon-specific grammar and regular grammar conventions as a whole. Most of your changes were good, and I can only see one instance of an incorrect subjective change. The one thing I can see, though, is that sometimes you miss a certain error (you missed the "so" rule, a splice comma error, and incorrect capitalization of "nature"). This inconsistency might affect applying for the team if you wish to do that. The GPTLs are going to doubt whether you actually don't know the rules and just made a "random" change, or they're going to assume you missed stuff (like I did). As always, everyone will miss an error, but minimizing that as much as possible will definitely help. Practicing more and just being familiar with the standards will help in this regard. PM me on discord if you want "answer keys" of the two exercises you did. I look forward to more from you! :)

It's best to setup DD set up a Dragon Dance towards the end of the game, when Mega Charizard-(RH)X's checks and counters are out of play or have been weakened enough to be picked off after a Dragon Dance boost. Mega Charizard-(RH)X should set up on a Pokemon that it forces out, such as Mega Scizor, (AC) and Celebi, or against Electric-types such as Manectric-Mega and Raikou and Mega Manectric. Rotom-Wash is an easy target to setup on if it is it's running HP investment, as it can't 2HKO Mega Charizard-(RH)X with Hydro Pump, (RC) and is stalled out with Roost (Feels reiterated from the previous comment; you could just delete this sentence and merge Rotom-Wash with the point above.). Make sure you avoid Thunder Wave from pokemon utility and Prankster foes like Cresselia, Thundurus (which also has Prankster) and Mega-(RH)Slowbro as paralysis cuts Mega Charizard-(RH)X's speed in half, making it suspectible susceptible to a higher amount of revengers slower revenge killers.

Garchomp has a really good Dragon/Ground-typing Dragon- and Ground typing, (AC) and as well as Rough Skin which allows it to damage you foes when you they make physical contact. Fairies Fairy-types can switch-(RH)in to Garchomp since Outrage doesn't effect affect them but they must be weary of Earthquake (this point is very vague since certain Fairy-types such as Magearna and Mega Mawile are immediately threatened by Earthquake, while others like Tapu Bulu and Clefable are not). Garchomp can also setup set up Stealth Rocks to weaken the opponent when they switch in. It can run a Defensive set, (RC) and can could also utilise utilize a Z-Earthquake Groundium Z set with SD Swords Dance and an Adamant Nature, so that it OHKOes things foes like Heatran. (Heatran isn't the best example here; Garchomp naturally outspeeds Heatran and threatens it with its Ground STAB. Use a different example of something that can be beat after a Swords Dance boost; perhaps Clefable?)

There are a few options for the Clefable's last moveslot. Flamethrower heavily damages Steel-(AH)types such as Scizor and Excadrill, while Ice Beam lures in and OHKOes Specially Defensive Glicsor Gliscor. Psyschock deals more damage to Chansey, as it hits on the other side of the spectrum it's a special move that takes into account Physical Defense rather than Special Defense. Finally, Thunder Wave is a great utility move that cripples many of Clefable's checks, including Talonflame, Scizor and Megagross Mega Metagross.

Thanks to its great bulk and useful Grass / Steel-(RH add space) typing,(AC) Ferrothorn is one of the best entry hazard setters in Ubers. It fairs fares very well against Defoggers such as Latios and Latias Lati@s, especially if it runs Toxic. Also, Toxic is also useful for against support Arceus formes forms and Giratina-O Giratina-Origin. Also, With the combination of Iron Barbs, Spikes, Leech Seed,(AC) and Toxic, Ferrothorn can easily wear down the enemy team opponents for a teammate to clean up later. imo "clean"'s meaning is too vague and not entirely obvious to the uneducated reader, but i assume it's probably ok to use. i vastly prefer "sweep" in general and "sweep late-game" in this specific instance because it's more clear to me, the uneducated reader (and presumable audience of this analysis) It does have some flaws, however. previous sentence can be conjoined with next Ferrothorn is not without its flaws however, as it is rendered useless by Taunt, is very slow, and has a nasty 4x x4 weakness to Fire.

Tsareena is relatively slow, [AC] so teammates such as Choice Scarf Infernape, Choice Scarf Hydreigon, [AC] or and Aerodactyl-Mega Mega Aerodactyl that can revenge kill [RH] faster threats for Tsareena are useful. Poison-type resistant Pokemon such as Scizor and Nidoking are good Poison Resists that can help Tsareena against the majority of Poison-Ttypes that can freely switch into [added a space between "switch" and "into"] to it. In return, Tsareena can hit Psychic-Ttypes [AH] with Knock Off, [RC] [maybe add an example of a Pokemon aided by this?] and help against Water- and Ground-Ttypes [AH after "Water" and "Ground"] for Nidoking. It also appreciates hazard support from Rockers Stealth Rock users like Cobalion or and Swampert, [RC] so it can wear down potential checks, can damage Stealth Rocks-weak [AH] Pokemon like Moltres, [AC] and further pressure opponents foes.

With its amazing Psychic / Steel typing granting it 9 resistances and an immunity, Bronzong is able to check a large amount of threats in the tier such as Wall-breakers and Sweepers wallbreakers and sweepers in the tier like Flygon, Glalie-Mega, Dragalge, Minior, [AC] and Comfey, thanks to its amazing Psychic-/Steel-typing; which grants it 9 resistances and an immunity. Bronzong's Levitate ability also gives it immunity to what would otherwise be a weakness Ground-type moves, leaving it with just three weaknesses. [AP] and iIts high Ddefensive stats allows it to check many Specially-Offensive specially offensive Pokemon such as Swellow, Gardevoir, Diancie, [AC] and the recently introduced Necrozma. [maybe mention physically offensive Pokemon that Bronzong can check, since you refer to both defensive stats?] Bronzong is also a solid setter of Stealth rocks Stealth Rock setter thanks to it's [RA] great Bbulk. A very low speed stat of 30 base 33 Speed stat both hurts it and helps it, Bronzong helps and hurts Bronzong: it will have a more powerful Gyro Ball at the expense of almost always be taking a hit before moving, however it also increases the power of its Gyro Ball.

Pystrike Psystrike is a strong STAB move and hits Pokémon that don't resist it and that hits Special specially defensive walls like Blissey on using their dDefense stat. It also chips away at some of Mewtwos switch-ins [AH] like Ho-oOh and Primal Groudon [RH]. Ice Beam OHKOes Mega Salamence and Rayquaza, [RC] and hitting hits Yveltal, Arceus-Ground [AH], Zygarde-Complete, Ultra Necrozma, and both Giratina formes hard. Alternatively ["alternately" implies that you are alternating between options, whereas "alternatively" means that you can choose between options], Calm Mind gives Mewtwo the ability to set up [added a space because "set up" is used as a verb] and potentially sweep and can OHKO and 2HKO most Pokemon [implied by the term "sweep"] after a boost. Also, Shadow Ball can be used as well to kill KO [Pokemon aren't killed in battle] Lunala and hit a large amount of switch-ins [AH] in one moveslot.

Garchomp has a really good Dragon / Ground typing [added spaces between the forward slash and the typings + RH] and Rough Skin, [AC] which allows it to damage you foes when you they make contact. Fairies can switch in [RH] to Garchomp since Outrage doesn't eaffect them, [AC] but they must be weary of Earthquake. Garchomp can also set up [added a space because "set up" is used as a verb] Stealth Rocks to weaken the opponent foes when they switch in. It can run a Ddefensive set, and can also or utilisze a Z-Earthquake Tectonic Rage set with SD Swords Dance and an Adamant Nnature, so that it to OHKOs things threats like Heatran.

Thanks to its great bulk and useful Grass- [AH]/ Steel-typing, [AC] Ferrothorn is one of the best entry hazard setters in uUbers. It fairs fares very well against defoggers such as Lati@s Latios and Latias, especially if it runs Toxic. Also, Toxic is useful for supporting Arceus formes and Giratina-Origin. Also, wWith [varying sentence structure from previous + this is an independent thought] the combination of Iron Barbs, Spikes, Leech Seed, [AC] and Toxic, Ferrothorn can easily wear down opponents foes for a teammate to clean up later. It does have some flaws, however. Ferrothorn is, [AC] such as being [combined these two sentences to remove a filler sentence] rendered useless by Taunt, being very slow, and has having [parallelism] a nasty x4 4x weakness to Fire.

It's best to setup DD Dragon Dance towards the end of the late-game, when Mega Charizard X's [RH] checks and counters are out of play or have been weakened enough to be picked off after a boost. Mega Charizard X [RH] should set up on a Pokemon that it forces out, such as Mega Scizor and or Celebi, or against Electric-types such as Manectric-Mega and Raikou. Rotom-Wash is an easy target to set up [added a space between "set" and "up"] on if it is running an HP investment, as it can't 2HKO Mega Charizard X [RH] with hHydro pPump, [RC] and is stalled out with Roost. Make sure you avoid Thunder Wave from pPokemon like Cresselia, Prankster Thundurus (which also has Prankster) and Mega Slowbro [RH], [AC] as paralysis cuts Mega Charizard X's [RH] speed in half, [RC] and making makes it suspectible susceptible to a higher amount of revengers revenge killers.

Overall, Mew has good offensive and defensive stats but is not really that outstanding when compared to bulkier Psychic-types such as Mega Slowbro, regular Slowbro, [RC] [using "Slowbro" suggests that you're talking about both Mega and normal Slowbro] and Cresselia. Mew also has access to a form of reliable recovery in Soft-Boiled, which contributes to Mew's longevity on the field. Synchronize is a useful ability for Mew, [RC] because it can can punish status users if they inflict status on Mew. It can also provide utility against Scald burns. [redundant as it's already implied in the previous sentence] However, Mew's typing is subpar, which leaves it very vulnerable to common Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-types, [RC] such as Scizor, Gengar, and Mega Gyarados. Mew also has four-moveslot syndrome because it cannot benefit from all move options it learns.

Hey, thanks to all of you for showing interest in GP! Due to the number of exercises, I'm going to be reviewing one per poster, but if you want feedback on another feel free to message me on Discord. This post will be super long so I'm using hide tags for these, but feel free to read the feedback even if it's not directed at you.

Garchomp has a really good Dragon/Ground-typing Dragon- and Ground typing, (AC) and as well as Rough Skin which allows it to damage you foes when you they make physical contact.
- The typing is Ground / Dragon, not Dragon / Ground, and dual typings are formatted that way. Hyphenate x-type when referring to it as a singular typing, so Fire-types such as Infernape, and use x typing when referring to the typing of a Pokemon so Infernape's Fire typing.
- Changing and to as well as wasn't really necessary here, as "Grachomp has a Ground / Dragon typing and Rough Skin" works fine. Consider saying something like "ability in Rough Skin" unless it's not ambiguous.
- When using "which" clauses, make sure they are always preceeded by a comma.
- Good changes by not using "you" to refer to a Pokemon, which is a common mistake so well done.

- Removing the hyphen with switch-in was great, but use "switch into" as opposed to "switch in to".
- When using as or since to mean because, always precede it with a comma.
- This exercise isn't about the analysis quality, and points like this would have been fixed in the QC stage of an analysis. Expediting QC checks here (by removing that point) isn;t really GP's job unless you get the approval of a QC member (or you are one).
- "The opponent" refers to the human player, while "the foe" refers to the opposing Pokemon. The foe is weakened by Stealth Rock.

- When referring to natures, the word is not capitalised, so it would be an Adamant nature.
- The Heatran thing is the same as the Bulu / Clef one.

Overall, this looks really good and I'd love to see you try another exercise or an amcheck on an analysis. Consider vising the GP discord which is linked in the OP and in the queue post.

THE SCIATIC NERVE
Thanks to its great bulk and useful Grass / Steel-(RH add space) typing,(AC) Ferrothorn is one of the best entry hazard setters in Ubers. It fairs fares very well against Defoggers such as Latios and Latias Lati@s, especially if it runs Toxic. Also, Toxic is also useful for against support Arceus formes forms and Giratina-O Giratina-Origin. Also, With the combination of Iron Barbs, Spikes, Leech Seed,(AC) and Toxic, Ferrothorn can easily wear down the enemy team opponents for a teammate to clean up later. imo "clean"'s meaning is too vague and not entirely obvious to the uneducated reader, but i assume it's probably ok to use. i vastly prefer "sweep" in general and "sweep late-game" in this specific instance because it's more clear to me, the uneducated reader (and presumable audience of this analysis) It does have some flaws, however. previous sentence can be conjoined with next
- This is all fine, but "it is not without its flaws" is often removed in GP as a filler / fluff line that doesn't add anything to the analysis.

Ferrothorn is not without its flaws however, as it is rendered useless by Taunt, is very slow, and has a nasty 4x x4 weakness to Fire.
- It is not without its flaws is filler, but if you were to use it, put a comma before however. "It is not without its flaws, however" essentially flips "However, it is not without its flaws."
- Great work on parallelism here.

This is a great improvement from your early amchecks, so make sure to keep going and get a namechange!

Pystrike Psystrike is a strong STAB attack and that hits Pokémon that don't resist it most neutral targets, (AC) and also hits Special walls Walls like Blissey on their defense Defense. It also chips some of Mewtwos Mewtwo's switch-ins, (AH) (AC) like Ho-oh Ho-Oh and Primal-Groudon (RH). Ice Beam OHKOs OHKOes Mega Salamence and Rayquaza, (this is pretty nit picky, but i was contemplating putting 'Rayquaza' before 'Mega Salamence' to avoid potential confusion to new readers in case they thought I was saying 'Mega Salamence and Mega Rayquaza') and as well as hitting Yveltal, Arceus-Ground (AH), Zygarde-Complete, Ultra Necrozma, and both Giratina forms formes hard.
- You don't need to add the comma before and or add also here. Only use a comma before and, but, or or (lol) if both clauses are independent. "Psystrike is a strong STAB attack that hits....." is, but " also hits special walls" is not.
- Special Walls is not capitalised, so use "special walls" to refer to them. This is the same with all playstyles are achetypes, so no Stall, Bulky Offense, or Sweeper either.
- No need to add a comma before like; they're only added before such as if there's ambiguity without them.
- Switching the order of lists is always fine to remove ambiguity; if you had a lit like "Dragon Dance Kommo-o and Infernape" you can see it reading as either DD Kommmo-o then Infernape, or DD Kommo-o and DD Infernape, so to solve it, put Infernape (or Salamence here) first.

Fire Blast is very important for hitting Dusk-Mane-Necrozma Necrozma-DM, (AC) that which resists most of Mewtwo's moves and certain threatens other Psychic resists, such as Steel-types (AH) like Mega-Scizor (RH), Ferothorn Ferrothorn, Celesteela, Magearna, (AC) and Aegislash.
- Changing certain to threatens here somewhat changes the meaning, which GP tries to avoid. The certain here means it hits Necrozma-DM and hits certain other resists.
- You would have a comma after moves to close off the switch clause, so "Necrozma-DM, which resists most of Mewtwo's moves, and certain"
- You can't use resist as a noun in analyses, so a Pokemon isn't a resist. You can use Psychich-resistant Pokemon or Pokemon that resist Psychic as substitutes.

Focus Blast also hits Steel-types Types (AH) like Dialga, and lures and allows Mewtwo to lure in Dark-types Types (AH) like Tyranitar, Darkrai, (AC) and Arceus-Dark. Alternately Alternatively, Calm Mind gives Mewtwo the ability to setup set up and potentially sweep, (AC) and can OHKO and 2HKO most Pokemon after a boost. Also, Shadow Ball can be used as well to kill KO Lunala and hit a large amount of switchins switch-ins in one moveslot.
- Remove the comma before and here; both caluses aren't independent (second one isn't).
- Mewtwo doesn't lure Dark-types, Focus Blast does. Standards say "Moves do not "lure" Pokemon. "Scizor lures in Heatran with Superpower" would imply Heatran is pretty confused! Instead, use "Scizor lures in Heatran and KOes it with Superpower" or a similar phrase. Note that "Superpower allows Scizor to lure in and KO Heatran" is correct; the move Superpower does allow Scizor to perform the combination of luring in and KOing Heatran."
- Don't add comma before and here; same issue with independent clauses. Try reading both clauses separately to see if they both make sense alone first.
- It's a large number of switch-ins as opposed to a large amount. If it's countable (like Pokemon that switch in are) use number. If not, amount is fine.

Overall, this looks great so far, and I hope to see more from you in GP.

- Changing the sentence order wasn't required, andif a subjective change isn't necessary, we try to keep the writer's voice as much as possible.
- I'd write out nine instead of 9.
- Mega Evolutions are formatted as Mega (Pokemon), so Mega Glalie not Glalie-Mega.

[maybe mention physically offensive Pokemon that Bronzong can check, since you refer to both defensive stats?]
- Its high defensive stats allow should be used instead of allows for subject verb agreement. Because stats is plural, it should agree with allow.
- Good change removing recently introduced, generation shifts are bad.

Bronzong is also a solid setter of Stealth rocks Stealth Rock setter thanks to it's [RA] great Bbulk. A very low speed stat of 30 base 33 Speed stat both hurts it and helps it, Bronzong helps and hurts Bronzong: it will have a more powerful Gyro Ball at the expense of almost always be taking a hit before moving, however it also increases the power of its Gyro Ball.
- This all looks pretty good, but "helps it and hurts it" can be seen as fluff, which isn't great in analyses.

Great improvement from Swoobat and you have a good understanding of general grammar rules. Make sure to read up on Smogon-specific ones.

hey Aaronboyer going to review this check.

Maximum attack Attack investment and an Adamant Nature nature lets let Muk-Alola Alolan Muk deal as much damage as possible while max SpD maximum Special Defense EVs with an AV Assault Vest gives Muk a very respectable amount of enough Special special bulk to check Pokémon Pokemon such as Chandelure, Latias,(AC) or and Gengar more effectively.
- Change gives -> give here for agreement. It's the same deal as lets -> let in the first line.

A Brave Nature nature should be used if running Fire Blast as it doesn't lower it's its special attack Special Attack. Poison Touch gives all of Muk-Alola's Alolan Muk's contact attacks moves an additional chance to Poison induce poison the opponents foe (Because Poison Touch can only activate and poison one Pokemon at a time).
- Add a comma before as after Fire Blast; use a comma before as or since if it means because.
- Your change on Poison Touch is fair, but "induce poison the foe"? I'd get rid of the word induce here.

Overall, this is a great improvement from some of your previous checks and I'd love to see more of this.[/quote]

hi im going over those checks sentence by sentence

add remove comments (AC = add comma) (RC = remove comma) (AH = add hyphen) (RH = remove hyphen) (ASC = add semicolon) (RSC = remove semicolon)

Maximum attack Attack investment and an Adamant Nature lets let Muk-Alola Alolan Muk deal as much damage as possible while max SpD EVs maximum Special Defense investment with an AV Assault Vest gives give Muk a very respectable amount of Special bulk the necessary special bulk to check Pokémon Pokemon such as Chandelure, Latias or and Gengar more effectively.
  • "Nature" shouldn't be capitalized, just the name of the natures.
  • This is just preference, but I dislike how "while" sounds in this context and might have changed it, but it's fine.
  • "gives" is correct actually, since the statement is saying a single subject does something to Muk. It's easier to think of this like there's a comma: "maximum Special Defense investment, ..., gives Muk". "give" would have been correct if you had kept "EVs" while changing "max SpD" to "maximum Special Defense" because it would've sounded like "maximum Special Defense EVs, ..., give Muk".
  • I honestly can't remember if TDP has said anything on this or not, but this statement is about Alolan Muk, so I personally prefer to keep every direct mention of a specific Pokemon in the same forme.
  • I like your change to the statement after "Muk" because it improves flow immensely, and even though it's subjective, it's still accurate to what the writer was trying to say and gets the message across.
  • Not sure why you removed "more effectively," it helps further explain what the bulk is for.

A Brave Nature nature should be used if running Fire Blast, (AC) as it doesn't lower it's Muk's (changed to prevent ambiguity) special attack Special Attack.
  • Good job changing this nature to lowercase.
  • While technically correct, I like sentences better when the object is being referenced, so I would prefer to see "if you're running Fire Blast on Alolan Muk" or "if Alolan Muk is running Fire Blast". Might just be me though.
  • Again, Alolan Muk over just Muk.

Poison Touch gives all of Muk-Alola's Alolan Muk's contact attacks an additional chance to Poison poison opponents foes.
  • Good job with this sentence, everything seems fine (with my bad nitpicking aside of course, I just like to use "move" over "attack" fsr).

ok time for koko

Ground-types (AH) such as Landorus therian Landorus-T, Garchomp and Swampert-mega Mega Swampert are a problem for tapu Koko Tapu Koko, (AC) as they are immune to Electric STAB Electric-type moves, (RC) and can OHKO Tapu Koko with EQ Earthquake,; (RC) (ASC) however, (AC) they can be killed by with Dazzling gleam Grass Knot (Mega Swampert doesn't get killed by either move, hence the change to Grass Knot. That, or replace the Mega Swampert mention with Gliscor and just remove the Dazzling Gleam mention altogether) or HP ice Hidden Power Ice.
  • Smogon uses the Oxford comma, so there should be one between "Garchomp" and "and".
  • The only time "killed" is used in official writing is when it's being used after "revenge" for "revenge kill(ed/er/s/ers), so make sure that it gets changed to KOed.
  • "by" is correct.
  • While it is good to comment on questionable content while GPing, don't try to enforce changes that aren't approved by QC beforehand unless you are actually on the respective QC team. For that reason, all I would have done would be capitalizing the G in "gleam" and then continuing to comment.
  • This is just preference, but I would have added "either" after "by" to strengthen the "or" in an either/or statement.

Choice Specs let lets Tapu koko Tapu Koko hit as hard as possible, but lock you into 1 move unless you switch out locks Tapu Koko into one move unless it switches out.
  • the second part of the sentence (after the comma) is only a dependent clause currently. The two ways to fix this would be to either remove the comma or add "it" after "but". The latter option wouldn't add any confusion onto what "it" is referring to because the focus of the sentence is still Choice Specs, and Tapu Koko is rementioned later on anyways.
Pokemon who that have a high Special defence Special Defense like Chansey are also a problem because it lives all of it's attacks they are not easily KOed. Tapu Koko is very fast with 130 base spe so it is hard to revenge-kill unless you have a scarfer. (I struggle to see the relevant of this sentence to the rest of the paragraph.)
  • Because you added "a", that adds the need for "stat" after "Defense". It was actually fine as just "have high Special Defense", but just so you know.

Nice job on both of these overall, just make sure to look out for hard-to-see changes. Hope this helps! :]

There are a few options for the Clefable's last moveslot. Flamethrower heavily damages Steel-types (AH) such as Scizor and Excadrill, while Ice Beam lures in and OHKOs Specially Defensive allows Clefable to lure in and OHKO specially defensive (the move itself doesn't lure Gliscor, but Clefable does with the move) Glicsor. Psyschock Psyshock deals more damage to Chansey, as it hits on the other side of the spectrum harder on Chansey's Defense as opposed to its Special Defense. Finally, Thunder Wave is a great utility move that cripples many of Clefable's checks, including Talonflame, Scizor, (AC) and Megagross Mega Metagross. (unless this is trying to say 'Metagross' over 'Mega Metagross', in which case Metagross should also be capitalized)

  • The only issue I have here is Gliscor's name is misspelled, so make sure to watch out for that.
Psyschock Psyshock deals more damage to Chansey, as it hits on the other side of the spectrum harder on Chansey's Defense as opposed to its Special Defense.
  • I wouldn't say it hits harder on Chansey's defense, because it's not like Psyshock hits the stat it targets. It's mostly just like a "as it uses Chansey's Defense instead of Chansey's Special Defense when calculating damage."

  •
good job, just make sure to look out for Pokemon move names/Pokemon names since they're typically not actually words so it's easy to brush them off due to them being underlined already

ok now for frostration
Ground-types [AH] such as Landorus-T therian, Garchomp, [AC] and Mega Swampert-mega are a problems for tTapu Koko, [AC] as they are immune to Electric-type STAB moves [RC] and can OHKO Tapu Koko with EQ Earthquake. [AP]
  • "are a problem" is actually correct; it helps to think of everything from the start of the list (in this case, "such") and the last part of the list ("Swampert") as if it were in a parenthesis, so it would read like "Ground-types (...) are a problem".
  • If you were to keep the "STAB" in with the "Electric-type STAB moves" portion, I would add an "its" before "Electric" to make the sentence more specific. Since it currently isn't there, the STAB can be misleading if someone wants to use that sentence as a general information type of thing, since some Pokemon use Electric-type moves for coverage.
  • Using "Tapu Koko" repeatedly can get kind of annoying to read after a while, so I would've personally added an "it" after "OHKO" instead of "Tapu Koko", but both work.

hHowever, [AC] they can be killed KOed [Pokemon don't die, they are KOed or faint] by Dazzling gGleam or HP ice Hidden Power Ice.
  • Nothing really wrong here, my only nitpick can be found in my other post but it's not important

Choice Specs lets Tapu kKoko hit hard, but it locks you Tapu Koko [be specific here since you have multiple subjects. also you = the player not the Pokemon] into 1 one move unless you it switches out.
  • yes good

Pokemon who have high Special defence Defense like Chansey are also a problems because it lives they survive all of it's Tapu Koko's attacks.
  • A general rule of thumb to note is that when something is referred to with non-person pronouns like "it", they are also referred to with "that" instead of "who" or "whom"
  • rest of the sentence seems good

Tapu Koko is very fast with 130 base spe a base 130 Speed stat, [AC] so it is hard to revenge kill unless you have a scarfer Choice Scarf user. [not sure about the previous sentence's relevance, maybe it would fit better in the context of the overview]
  • The way the sentence is currently worded makes it sound like it should be in a Checks and Counters section of another Pokemon's analysis, so on top of suggesting the sentence if moved to overview, I would also comment on the sentence's tone and suggest ways to change it, such as "Tapu Koko is a great revenge killer due to its high base Speed stat that allows it to outpace most other revenge killers."

nice job!

I'm not sure if I ever plan to get myself into GP, but I think this can be an interesting exercise to gauge my Grammar and what not, I've been trying to improve it lately and AMGPs don't seem like a bad idea to do that. So, here goes nothing :) Thanks to whoever checks this!

- No need to as it and remove the comma here; either one fixes the problem but changing both creates one.
"It can't 2HKO Mega Charizard X with Hydro Pump and is stalled out by Roost"
"It can't 2HKO Mega Charizard X with Hydro Pump, and it is stalled out by Roost"
- Either of these changes make the sentence correct, but having both turns it into "It can't 2HKO Mega Charizard X with Hydro Pump and it is stalled out by Roost."

Make sure you Mega Charizard X avoids Thunder Wave from pokemon Pokemon like Cresselia, Thundurus,(AC) (which also has Prankster) and Mega-Slowbro,(RH)(AC) as paralys paralysis cuts halves Mega Charizard-X's(RH) speed Speed in half, making increasing it's suspectible susceptibility to a higher amount of revengers revenge killers.
- Removing Prankster mention here is a content change. GP members don't do this because it changes what the analysis says or implies, which is the job of the writer or QC team/ This one is minor, but it does remove something the writer wanted to say.

Overall this is really good and a great improvement! Maybe try some more amchecks on analyses now for longer texts with more changes for more practice.

Ground-types (AH) such as Landorus-Therian (AH, Capitalize), Garchomp, (AC) and Mega Swampert-mega are a problem for Tapu Koko (Capitalize) as they are immune to its Electric-type moves STAB, (RC) and can OHKO it with Earthquake EQ, however, (AC) they can be KOed killed by Dazzling Gleam (Capitalize) or Hidden Power Ice (Capitalize).
- Always use a comma before as (so after Tapu Koko) if it means because. The same rule applies to since too.
- Changing Electric-type STAB moves to just moves changes content slightly, and GPers tend to keep the STAB part in because it's relevant to a lot of offensive Pokemon too.
- There needs to be either a period or a semicolon before however, as a new sentence starts there. However can't be used as a direct substitute for but. "...OHKO it with Earthquake; however, they can..." or "...OHKO it with Earthquake. However, they can..." would be fine fixes to this.

Choice Specs lets Tapu Koko (Capitalize) hit hard, (RC) at the cost of but locking it you into one 1 move until unless you switched out. Pokemon with a who have high Special Defense stat such as defence like Chansey (perhaps another example should be user here, say, Ferrothorn or Gastrodon?) are also a problem because they can stomach any it lives all of it's (RA) attacks.
- Your comment about adding other examples is fairy only because you're on the QC team. If it was a different tier or you weren't QC, comments like that aren't really necessary unless there's something objectively wrong content-wise.

Tapu Koko is very fast with a whopping base 130 Speed base spe so it's quite (AA - "it is" gives unecessary emphasis on the word "is") is hard to revenge-kill (RH) without unless you have a Choice Scarf user scarfer. (Just wanted to say Choice Specs Tapu Koko is really really really bad)
- Adding descriptions / fluff etc like "whopping" isn't really necessary unless it adds something to the analysis. "a base 130 Speed" also doesn't make the most sense, so either use "base 130 Speed" or a "base 130 Speed stat"
- Use a comma before "so" unless it means "so that," which it doesn't here.
- This was written in November 2017 when that was the best set, and the aim of this is a GP exercise not a "best sets in OU list". On an actual analysis, it would have been QC checked first.

This looks great for a first check so feel free to contact me if you have any questions / concerns etc.

ragmatho
Tsareena works best on Offensive teams that appreciate a Pokemon that can her ability to break through most Defensive cores as it is able to 1OHKO Quagsire,(RC) and 1OHKO Alomomola after Stealth Rocks damage.
- Playstyles (offensive, defensive) aren't capitalised in analyses.
- "A Pokemon that can" was perfectly fine, so a subjective change here wasn't needed. Your subjective change also used "her," which isn't used to refer to Pokemon. Use "it" instead.
- Use a comma before as if it means because, which it does here.

Tsareena is relatively slow so teammates such as Choice Scarf Infernape, Choice Scarf Hydreigon or Aerodactyl-Mega that can revenge-kill faster threats for Tsareena are which is useful.
- Put a comma before so unless it means so that.
- Use a comma after Hydreigon because Smogon uses the serial (Oxford) comma.
- "Or" should be changed to "and" here for agreement. Teammates is plural, so it should agree with and, which is also plural.
- Megas are formatted [Mega] Pokemon, not [Pokemon]-Mega or [Mega]-Pokemon. Use Mega Aerodactyl here.
- Revenge kill isn't hyphenated.
- I don't understand your change from are to which is or removing that. Simplifying the sentence original gives "teammates that can revenge kill faster threats are useful." This implies specific fast teammates can revenge kill faster threats. Your change reads "teammates can revenge kill faster threats, which is useful." This suggests every teammate to Tsareena can do this, which isn't true, and creates a major false content change.

Pokemon such as Scizor and Nidoking are good Poison Rresists that can help Tsareena against the majority of Poison-(AH)Ttypes that can freely switch-(AH)in to it. In return, Tsareena can hit Psychic-(AH)Ttypes with Knock Off, and help against Water-(AH) and Ground-(AH)Types for Nidoking.
- You can't use resists in a typing context as a noun, so you can consider something like Poison-resistant Pokemon as a substitute for it.
- Switch-in is a noun, and switch in is a verb. The correct use would be switch into.
- Don't use a comma before and after Knock Off here. The secound clause isn't independent (doesn't stand alone and make sense) so it can't be separated by a comma. "Tsareena can hit Psychic-types with Knock Off and help against Water- and Ground-types."

It also appreciates hazard support from Stealth Rockers users like Cobalion or Swampert, so that it can wear down potential checks,(RC) can damage Rocks weak Pokemon like such as,(AC) Moltres and further pressure opponents.
- Generally use "entry" before "hazard" the first time in each paragraph for clarity, but it's not required.
- Cobalion or Swampert should be Cobalion and Swampert for the same reasons as the list of faster Pokemon above. Stealth Rock users is plural, so you should use and to agree with it.
- You don't need a comma after such as; it can be used before but its often context reliant. It will never work after such as.
- The opponent refers to the human battler, while the foe refers to the opposing Pokemon. Therefore, Stealth Rock pressures foes not opponents.

Most of the issues here could be fixed by reading over the standards while checks. gonna do some more of these

Thanks to its great bulk and useful Grass / Steel-typing (RH), (AC) Ferrothorn is one of the best entry hazard setters in ubers Ubers. It fairs very well against defoggers Defoggers such as like (here we're specifying that Ferrothorn has a good matchup against Defoggers similar to the Lati twins, hence the change to 'like') Lati@s Latios and Latias, especially if it runs Toxic. Also, Toxic is also useful for crippling support Arceus forms variants and Giratina-Origin Giratina-O. Also, with With the combination of Iron Barbs, Spikes, Leech Seed and Toxic, Ferrothorn can easily wear down opponents foes for a teammate to clean up later. It does have some flaws, however. Ferrothorn is rendered useless by Taunt, is very slow, and has a nasty x4 4x weakness to Fire.

There are a few options for the last moveslot. Flamethrower heavily damages Steel-types (AH) such as Scizor and Excadrill, while Ice Beam lets Clefable lures lure in and OHKOs Specially Defensive Glicsor OHKO specially defensive Gliscor. Psyschock Psyshock deals more damage to Chansey, as it hits on the other side of the spectrum its Defense rather than its Special Defense. Finally, Thunder Wave is a great utility move that cripples many of Clefable's checks, including Talonflame, Scizor and Megagross Mega Metagross.

Pystrike Psystrike is a strong STAB move and that hits Pokémon Pokemon that don't resist it hard and hits Special special walls like Blissey on their defense Defense (tried to improve flow of sentence). It Psystrike also chips some of Mewtwo's (add apostrophe) switch-ins (AH) like Ho-oh and Primal-Groudon Ho-Oh and Primal Groudon. Ice Beam OHKOs OHKOes Mega Salamence and Rayquaza, and while also hitting Yveltal, Arceus-Ground (AH), Zygarde-Complete Zygarde-C, Ultra Necrozma, and both Giratina forms formes hard. Fire Blast is very important for hitting Dusk-Mane-Necrozma Necrozma-DM that which resists most of Mewtwo's moves and certain other Psychic resists, such as as well as Steel-types (AH) like Mega-Scizor Mega Scizor, Ferothorn Ferrothorn, Celesteela, Magearna, (AC)and Aegislash (tried to improve flow while cutting out seemingly unneeded or repetitive information). Focus Blast hits Steel Types Steel-types not weak to Fire like Dialga, (RC) and lures Dark Types Dark-types like Tyranitar, Darkrai and Arceus-Dark. Alternately, Calm Mind gives Mewtwo the ability to setup set up and potentially sweep, and as it can OHKO and 2HKO most Pokemon after a boost. Also, Shadow Ball can also be used as well to kill Lunala and hit a large amount of switchins switch-ins in one moveslot.

There are a few options for Clefable's the last moveslot. Flamethrower heavily damages Steel-types (AH) such as Scizor and Excadrill, (RC) while Ice Beam lures in and OHKOes Specially Defensive Gliscor Glicsor.
  • The comma before "while" is actually correct in this instance, as "while" is being use to contrast the two moves. It's like saying "Flamethrower does this, but Ice Beam does this instead".
Psyschock deals more damage to Chansey, (RC) by targetting as it hits on the other side of the spectrum.
  • While I see what you were going for with your change, the "as" actually worked better for explaining why Psyshock is better for Chansey.
  • "targeting" only has one T.
  • Phrases involving "spectrum" in reference to defensive stats are always incorrect because a Pokemon's stats don't sit on a spectrum. There's no "in-between" for Defense and Special Defense. In this sentence, I would change it to "...as it hits Chansey on its Defense."
Finally, Thunder Wave is a great utility move that cripples many of Clefable's checks, including Talonflame, Scizor, (AC) and Mega Metagross. (Rest in peace Smogon bird)
  • This sentence is fine.

ragmatho
With Mmaximum aAttack investment EVs and an Adamant Nature let'(AA)s Muk-Alola deal as much damage as possible while max SpD Special Defense EVs with an Assault Vest gives Muk-Alola a very respectable amount of Special bulk to check Pokéemon such as Chandelure, Latias,(AC) or and Gengar more effectively.
  • "With" was not needed; you could've kept "Maximum" capitalized; however, the change to "Attack" is correct and I'm not opposed to changing "investment" to "EVs".
  • "Nature" shouldn't be capitalized ("Adamant nature", "neutral-natured", etc.).
  • "lets" should've been changed to "let" because the writer is listing multiple things that help Alolan Muk do something, so it's plural.
  • Not sure why you added an apostrophe to "lets"; that makes it the contraction for "let us" which definitely doesn't fit in that context. It would read as "...Adamant nature let us Muk-Alola...", which doesn't sound right.
  • Alolan Pokemon formes should be referred to as "Alolan [x]", so it should be "Alolan Muk", not "Muk-Alola".
  • "max" is frowned upon, so it should be changed to the full word ("maximum").
  • Despite the Special Defense EVs being the only thing listed when taking the nonrestrictive clause into consideration, "gives" should still be "give" because the writer is saying plural EVs, so there's still more than one.
  • "special" and "physical" shouldn't be capitalized when used in tandem with "bulk" because they aren't actual stats; "special bulk" is not a stat, whereas "Special Defense" is.
A Brave Nature should can be used if to running Fire Blast as it doesn't lower it's sSpecial aAttack.
  • Again, lowercase "nature".
  • "should" is correct here; the writer is stating that a Brave nature is more viable with Fire Blast and is therefore the preferred option.
  • "if running" is also correct here.
  • "it's" is wrong; it stands for "it is". "Its" is the exception to using apostrophes to show ownership; if you get confused, it helps to replace every "its" or "it's" you're unsure about" with "it is", and if it sounds wrong, then "its" should be used. Regardless, "its" would be wrong here too, since the subject of the sentence is a Brave nature, but Brave natures don't have Special Attack stats, so it should be changed to "Alolan Muk".
Poison Touch gives all of Muk-Alola's contact attacks moves an additional chance to Poison opponents.
  • Alolan Muk instead of Muk-Alola.
  • status ailments like "poison" shouldn't be capitalized. If the writer meant "Poison opponents" as in "Poison-type foes", then the change would be to add "-type" to the end of Poison.
  • opponent = the player that you're facing, foe = the opponent's Pokemon; foe should go here instead of opponents.

MewBby I didn't see your post, sorry! I'll try to go over it later.

Ground-(AH)types such as Landorus-T therian, Garchomp,(AC) and Mega Swampert Swampert-mega are a problem for Tapu Koko,(AC) as they are immune to its Electric-type moves STAB,(RC) and can OHKO it with Earthquake;(semicolon) EQ,(RC) however,(AC) they can be KOed killed by Dazzling Gleam or Hidden Power Ice HP ice. Choice Specs lets Tapu Koko hit hard, but locks it you into one 1 move unless you switch it out. Pokemon who have high Special Defense defence like Chansey are also a problem because they live it lives all of its it's attacks. The last half of the sentence is arguably filler/pretty vague (everything after "because") but I'm not sure it warrants a change? Idk I personally would rewrite this, just don't know if it's necessary Tapu Koko is very fast with base 130 Speed,(AC) base spe so it is hard to revenge-(RH, add space)kill unless your opponent has have a Choice Scarf user scarfer.

Question based off seeing some responses - should "you" be removed usually? In the context of the above I feel like it works ok - I know these are supposed to be formal, but the tone even with the inclusion of "you" strikes a good balance between formal/informal I feel (this is Pokemon after all). That said, it seems like in most people's answers that's something that's usually taken out, so would appreciate clarification on how to treat cases like this!
