[OVERVIEW]

While STAB Facade and Knock Off along with Guts make Obstagoon seem like an appealing choice, it holds no real niche. It is completely outclassed as a Guts user by Conkeldurr, which has much higher Attack, ability to cover nearly the entire metagame in four moveslots, STAB Fighting-type attacks to nail Cobalion — which Obstagoon can't touch — and priority in Mach Punch. Moreover, its middling Speed leaves it outsped by many common foes like Keldeo, Azelf, and Zarude. Even with Rest, Obstagoon is worn down way too quickly from entry hazards, sand damage, its weakness to U-turn, and its own Flame Orb to make use of its increased longevity.

[SET COMMENTS]
Facade lets Obstagoon 2HKO many slower defensive Pokemon like Amoonguss and Hippowdon after Stealth Rock damage. Knock Off slams Normal-resistant foes like Celesteela and Scizor. Rest gives Obstagoon some longevity against defensive teams that try to wear it down with residual damage and Sleep Talk lets it call moves when it's asleep while still being boosted by Guts. Unfortunately, the inconsistency when calling moves can make it tough to use when asleep. Due to Obstagoon's lack of coverage, it gives free set up opportunities to Cobalion, making it very difficult for it to force progress against most teams. Obstagoon can run a set with Close Combat and Switcheroo or Obstruct over RestTalk to remedy its coverage issues and cripple defensive Salamence, but this leaves it far more vulnerable to chip damage than it already was. Conkeldurr's better bulk and coverage make it a much more straightforward Pokemon to use. Obstagoon's higher Speed doesn't justify its far lower damage output as well, killing any viability it has.

Facade lets it 2HKO many slower defensive Pokemon like Amoonguss and Hippowdon after Stealth Rock damage. Knock Off slams normal resistant foes like Nihilego (facade 2HKOes so doesn't fit too well compared to other stuff mentioned that actually tanks facade) Celesteela, and Scizor. Rest gives Obstagoon some longevity against defensive teams that try to wear it down with its burn and Rocky Helmet, and Sleep Talk lets it call moves when its asleep while still being boosted by Guts. Unfortunately, the inconsistency when calling moves can make it tough to use when asleep. Due to the lack of coverage, it gives free set up opportunities to Cobalion making it very difficult for it to force progress on most teams. Conkeldurr's better bulk and coverage makes it much much more straightforward to use, killing any viability Obstagoon has.

Facade lets Obstagoon 2HKO many slower defensive Pokemon like Amoonguss and Hippowdon after Stealth Rock damage. Knock Off slams Normal-resistant (added hyphen) foes like Celesteela and Scizor. Rest gives Obstagoon some longevity against defensive teams that try to wear it down with residual damage its burn and Rocky Helmet, (I think this is more indictive of how Obstagoon struggles, since the opposing team doesn't wear it down with its burn.) and Sleep Talk lets it call moves when its asleep while still being boosted by Guts.
