GOON SQUAD

This is my 1st RMT and I'm super excited to share this cool squad I cooked up. My teambuilding has never been great but I guess I never really tried building around my play-style. I got inspired to create this squad after remembering the absolute menace banded beat-up weavile was last gen and by a pre-home squad with specs moth and banded bax i snagged from here that brought me to the top 15 of the OU ladder.

Ignore GXE, it was low 70s before the squad

TEAM DESCRIPTION

waev.png

Banded Weavile was the first pick for the squad as I pointed out in the short intro blurb. Banded Meow has showcased just how difficult it can be to switch into Triple Axel and this mon has both a stronger Knock Off and TA. This makes it a nasty mon to switch into and there usually isn't a safe switch in for it. Ice Shard is there to revenge kill the primal dragons, val, boulder, and just any fast threat in general after they get weakened. This is also the only form of speed control on the team so be wary of keeping Weavile healthy. The last move is Low Kick, not Beat Up like I alluded to. Beat Up lets in too much for free in this dark and fighting infested meta. Low Kick is there specifically for Gambit since nothing else in the tier safely switches into both stabs and most Weaviles are hbd with shard/ta/knock/sd so they typically can't touch the big boss. I like tera dark for stupid strong Knock Offs but tera ice is an option if you find Pult too much of an issue since tera Ice Shard OHKOs Pult and TA becomes even stronger.

gambito.png

Pretty standard max speed Kingambit. I have tried max HP instead but the speed is too valuable vs slow fat mons. The only thing that deviates from the usual is that instead of tera fairy or tera flying, this guy has tera ghost to use IDPress mons as setup fodder to either sweep from there or force huge damage on something else. With many teams relying on Skarm for physical threats, Knock Weavile + SO Boosted Kowtows give it trouble staying healthy. Other physical dark resists like Clef and Tusk don't like the fact that they're weak to either Iron Head or TA from Weavile.

goat.png

The goat himself, Lando-T makes an appearance. He was initially thrown in as the strongest rocker with a pivoting move because of Beat Up Weavile but, now he serves as the Raging Bolt check. Ting-Lu is a better specially defensive ground and is better at keeping hazards up, Gliscor is also better at keeping hazards up and has better longevity, Treads has a better Raging Bolt match-up and can remove hazards as well, however, Lando has U-Turn over Ting-Lu, is specially bulkier than Glisc and intimidate is extremely valuable in a pinch, and ground/flying is much more useful on this team than ground/steel defensively since otherwise Tusk runs wild and there's no fire resists on this team anyways. I've got Taunt in the last slot to taunt slow hazard setters like Ting and Skarm 248HP/224SPD/36SPE Careful is the EV spread which is as much special defense as I can throw into it while making it faster than 0 speed Gliscor to avoid Toxic and hazards. I run tera water for Walking Wake but if you're running into Bolt + Wake or Kingdra + Bolt teams frequently, tera grass is an option to resist both stabs.

runt.png

Phys. Def Pecharunt is fat as hell and functions as a phenominal pivot that can blank non-dark physical attackers as well as check Val and scarf Enam in a pinch. Parting Shot makes it easy to switch into your breakers thanks to the attack drop making them bulkier and Malignant Chain makes non-steel types unsafe as a switch while helping beat fairy mons. Recover and boots help with longevity and tera fly prevents offensive grounds from snowballing while making dark neutral. My last move is Night Shade since this thing is weak af uninvested and it makes it an easy click into Gambit, Ghold and Ting, which function as checks to the dark mons and lose a respectable amount of HP from it.

hoopa.png

This idea came from Beat-Up Weavile but this has been a monster in its own right. Choice Specs to complement as a strong dark breaker that hits specially. I wish I saved a replay vs Stall but it always 6-0s since all you need to do is switch into Glisc's Knock and now they can't safely switch without risking a 2HKO or OHKO and Hoopa gaining boots or lefties to help with longevity. Pivoting into this guy makes life hell for balance and BO builds as well because predicting wrong means losing a mon. Max speed timid is necessary thanks to all the mid 80 speed pokemon running various speed evs. The moves are Psychic/Dark Pulse/Psyshock/Focus Blast. Most games consist of a Focus Blast or two for the Gambit, Ting, or both, and then spamming Psychic or Psyshock based on if the defensive mon is phys. def or sp. def. Tera psychic is my choice because, like I said, spamming the Psy-moves is how you clinch kills but tera dark isn't bad either to maintain a better defensive profile while keeping a spammable, albeit notably easier to out maneuver thanks to the lack of mind games, stab.

corv.png

Everyone's favorite early game bird makes an appearance. This was thrown in to patch the weakness to strong, offensive dark types + offensive Tusk. Corv is running helmet IDPress/Roost to deal with the aforementioned mons and U-Turn to pivot into one of your breakers. Defog is an option as well over U-Turn but I prefer momentum over keeping hazards off as momentum is enough to keep it limited to just one spike or just rocks and if the opponent gets a lot up, either their team is weak enough that one more free attack from Hoopa or Weavile means game over or you missed a few Blasts or TAs and got screwed by 70% acc. Skarm does technically the phys. def thing better, but Defog or U-Turn is much better for the team. The extra sp. def + tera water lets it survive a strong special water move in a pinch if you need a safe way to pivot. EV wise, I am running 120 speed evs to outspeed Gambit and get BP chip in a dire situation.

THREAT LIST

dra.png

This combo on rain is an absolute pain in the ass since teraing Lando for the seahorse means you get cooked by Mr. Neck and corv is not reliable post-tera as pump is roll to 2HKO. Wake + Bolt on sun is a similar pita. Try to pivot Hoopa into Bolt while keeping it healthy as that forces a KO against weather builds.

hatt.png

Phys. def CM is hard to kill as it heals too much. Pray for a toxic with Pech or keep Hoopa healthy with tera since

Psyshock only does 58-69% to water Hatt and +1 heals 40-47% vs non-tera Hoopa.

pult.png

Wisp Pult is an issue since you're not getting away without two of your mons burnt and out of the potential burn victims, Lando and Gambit do not appreciate being gimped in chipping away and cleaning respectively, Pech and Corv lose 1v1, and Weavile and Hoopa do not come in on U-Turn or Darts.

hypnobitch.png

Honorable Mention to this shithead (Hypno-sashrai) for getting hit by just one TA, then winning the speed tie next turn and getting a 3 turn sleep, and, later in that game, dodging a Blast from Hoopa then flinching me 3 times when a single Blast hit won me the game. I don't think it's banworthy because that was a serious stroke of luck but just be wary of this shithead. The best counterplay is just to lead Weavile and win the tie and TA it, win 2 ties and click low kick or tera Ice Shard which 2HKOs 93% of the time.

CONCLUSION + IMPORTABLES

If you got this far, thank you so much for reading and I hope you have as much fun as I did building this team.
