Goodra functions as a powerful counter to the many hard-hitting Dragon-types in 1v1. Significant defensive investment, in conjunction with Haban Berry, lets Goodra survive Outrage from Adamant Choice Scarf Haxorus, Outrage from Adamant Choice Band Dracovish, Close Combat from Jolly Choice Band Sawk, and Draco Meteor from every relevant Dragon-type in 1v1. 4 Speed EVs allow Goodra to outpeed Choice Band Sawk after Gooey triggers. The remainder of the EVs and a Modest nature are used to maximize damage output. Gooey is the preferred ability for this set, allowing Goodra to outspeed non-Choice Scarf Dracovish and Choice Band Sawk after it triggers. Sap Sipper is a viable choice that should be used if the rest of your team is weak to Whimsicott. Acid Spray is the most important move on this set, allowing Goodra to break down walls like stall Arcanine, Mandibuzz, and Marvel Scale Milotic. Draco Meteor is the STAB move of choice, allowing Goodra to OHKO opposing Dragon-types, such as Dracovish, Hydreigon, non-Substitute + Disable Dragapult, and Haxorus, as well as Pokemon weakened by Acid Spray. Fire Blast is important coverage that lets Goodra hit Corviknight, Ferrothorn, and Durant. Counter improves the matchup against Choice Band Excadrill, Dracovish, and Haxorus by letting Goodra hit them without risking a miss from Draco Meteor or Fire Blast. Thunderbolt is useful coverage against Corviknight, Golisopod, and Gyarados. An alternate EV Spread of 252 HP / 128 Def / 104 SpA / 24 Spe is needed if opting for Thunderbolt, in order to outspeed Choice Band Excadrill after Gooey triggers.
Goodra appreciates teammates such as Aegislash, Excadrill, Arcanine, and Cinderace that can handle the Steel- and Fairy-types it struggles to beat. In exchange, Goodra handles threats to those Pokemon like Dracovish and Sawk. Goodra also struggles with Pokemon that have immediate power, like Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan and Choice Band Haxorus. Faster Pokemon that can OHKO these Pokemon before they can move, such as Dragapult and Choice Scarf Dracozolt, are good partners.
