Following the recent discussion in our On The Radar thread, the 1v1 council has voted to ban Flutter Mane and Gholdengo with Iron Valiant remaining free for now.

As stated previously, Flutter Mane could cover pretty much the entire tier in just a couple sets barring certain Clear Amulet physical attackers such as Arcanine and Dondozo. While previously it was stretched thin having to pick between Charm sets which could handle most physical mons like Iron Hands or a speed boost to beat mons like Dragapult, with the rise of the speed boosted Charm and Pain Split set Flutter Mane was able to transcend these restrictions and could even beat some Psyshock users such as Farigiraf as well which previously had good matchups. While certain mons could somewhat adapt like the aforementioned Clear Amulet Arcanine and Dondozo, this restriction severely inhibited them in other matchups as Clear Amulet is not particularly useful in many other scenarios, and it was only a matter of time before Flutter Mane started adapting back. In the end Flutter Mane had very little counterplay and most of the counterplay that did exist had to sacrifice other matchups to do so.

Gholdengo, more like Gholdengotothebanlist. This mon took control of the spotlight following the Chi-Yu ban with its versatile movepool and godsend of an ability in Good as Gold which made luring or finessing it nearly impossible. Similar to Flutter Mane, much of Gholdengo's success came with the invention of new sets, particularly the Weakness Policy sets. While its stats aren't the most spectacular, Gholdengo can become quite difficult to ko when it invests into bulk. This forced previous answers such as Great Tusk, Roaring Moon, and Donphan to rethink how they approached beating Gholdengo, forcing them to use offensive items or risk losing. It was unlikely that you would fit multiple answers on a single team meaning that if you faced a Gholdengo you would have a disadvantage while picking, and with how easy it was to slot Gholdengo on pretty much any team there really wasn't much reason not to run it.

Looking forward, The 1v1 council will be discussing what to do moving forward over the next few days mostly relating to potential suspects on Iron Valiant or Greninja. Iron Valiant may have survived this slate but at the same time it also lost 2 of its most reliable counters and could take off following these bans. Greninja was finally allowed in 1v1 GC this week and has so far seemed quite powerful being able to pick and choose what matchups it wins on a whim. There's also the chance something else pops up in the wake of these bans as well. I would highly encourage everyone who has an opinion to share their thoughts in the 1v1 Metagame Discussion thread and we'll be monitoring it closely these next few days.
