Nintendo Cup 98 Sample Teams for Pokémon Stadium 1 (Beta Versions)

Here are 11 Sample Teams that I built for this format. Despite the fact that only 33 mons are allowed, this format has a lot of variety. If the programmers add a Pokémon Stadium Zero simulator to Showdown in the future I'll also build samples for those mechanics.

Petit Cup analysis and resources

Description

A format with many cute pokémon, but don’t let down your guard, you will be tested.

Mechanics

This format has been played with the following mechanics:

Colosseum 2Pokémon Stadium 1

Pokémon Yellow.jpg

Pokémon Stadium 1.jpg

The Petit Cup debuted in Japan and the rest of the World with Pokémon Yellow, it was one of the three formats that could be played in the new multiplayer mode called Colosseum 2. The cup then reappeared in Pokémon Stadium 1 where it was one of the main formats of the Story and Multiplayer modes.

Unlike the other Nintendo formats of its generation, the Petit Cup saw little tournament play; however, it was featured in the Spring Pokémon League, which was a series of regional tournaments that took place in Japan during March and April 1999. Matches were played in Pokémon Stadium 1 before the game was officially released. Later that year, the Petit Cup appeared in the popular TV show called 64 Mario Stadium.

Suggested Rules

-Enter with six pokémon.

-Qualyfing pokémon:
This format is for pokémon that haven't evolved and can evolve in Gen I. Pokémon that haven’t evolved and don’t evolve in Gen I are also allowed. Finally there are height and weight restrictions: pokémon must have a height no more than 2 m (6’07’’) and a weight no more than 20 kg (44.1 lbs) to compete.

-Mew is banned.

-Species Clause.

-Level restrictions:
All of your pokemon must be between levels 25 and 30.

-Fly and Dig are allowed.

-Counter and Psywave are banned in Colosseum 2 matches (this is to prevent the game for being interrupted by a desynchronization).*

-Evasion Moves are banned.*

-One Hit KO Moves are banned.*

-Tradeback Moves are banned (e.g. a Pikachu with Sing or an Exeggcute with Mega Drain).

-Team Preview is enforced, even if you play in the Colosseum 2 mode of Pokémon Yellow.

-Choose three out of six pokémon:
Battles are of 3 VS 3.

-The sum limit of the three chosen pokémon must be between 75 and 80.

-Freeze Clause (only enforced in Pokémon Stadium 1).

-Pokémon Stadium 1's Sleep Clause.

-Semi Invincibility Clause:
Only enforced if you play in Pokémon Yellow, click this link if you want to know more about this rule.*

-Self KO Clause:
If your last pokémon uses Self-Destruct or Explosion and faints, you lose.

-Recoil Moves Clause: Only enforced if you play in Pokémon Yellow. If both players' last pokémon faints due to a Recoil Move, then the win is given to the player whose pokémon used the move.

*These rules were added to make the fights more fair and interesting.

Qualifying pokémon

As stated above, this format is only for pokémon that haven’t evolved and pokémon that haven't evolved and don’t evolve in Gen I, also, pokémon need to be short and light (they must have a height no more than 2 m and a weight no more than 20 kg). Out of the 151 pokémon, only 46 qualify; however, Mew is banned because it is Uber, this gives a total of 45 pokémon allowed.

A Special pokémon that is only available as a Rental

In Pokémon Stadium 1 you can also use one “special” pokémon if you play Petit Cup in the Free Battle mode or in the Stadium mode. This pokémon is special because it is underleveled, here it is:

:koffing:

Koffing
Ability: None
Level: 25
- Smog
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Toxic

Note: Underleveled.

Since this pokémon is a Rental, you can’t change its level nor moves, also, in our opinion, this pokémon should be allowed because it is given by the game itself.

Little Cup Pokémon that are banned on Petit Cup

Due to the cup’s strict restrictions, 11 Little Cup Pokémon were banned because they were too heavy, following is the list of those pokémon:

:venonat: Venonat
:mankey: Mankey
:tentacool: Tentacool
:ponyta: Ponyta
:slowpoke: Slowpoke
:doduo: Doduo

About Dragon Rage

Dragon Rage is a good attack on the Petit Cup because it deals a good ammount of damage to any Pokémon. Below is the list of the Pokémon that learn it:

:charmander: Charmander
:growlithe: Growlithe
:magikarp: Magikarp*
:dratini: Dratini

*Magikarp only learns Dragon Rage in Japan.

Three of those Pokémon also have other good qualities: Charmander and Growlithe learn Fire Blast which two-hit KOs Exeggcute, one ot the best monsters of the format; Dratini's Blizzard is also good against Exeggcute and Surf and Thunderbolt help it againts its fellow Dragon Rage users and if that wasn't enough, the small worm also has Thunder Wave and the deadly AgilyWrap combo. If you like the Petit Cup, you should be wary of those three.

Exploding Moves users

Self-Destruct and Explosion are the strongest moves of the generation because they have a Base Damage of 260 and 340 respectively. Below is the list of the Pokémon that learn those moves in the Petit Cup:

:geodude: Geodude
:shellder: Shellder
:gastly: Gastly
:voltorb: Voltorb
:exeggcute: Exeggcute
:koffing: Koffing

:geodude: Geodude
:shellder: Shellder
:gastly: Gastly
:voltorb: Voltorb
:exeggcute: Exeggcute
:koffing: Koffing

All the Pokémon that learn Self-Destruct also learn Explosion. Since Self-Destruct is weaker, it is almost never used.

Partial Trapping Moves users

Partial Trapping Moves are good in Colosseum 2 Petit Cup. Below is a list of the Pokémon that learn them along with their Max Speed:

Accuracy: 75 %

Pokémon that learn it in Petit Cup:

:shellder: Shellder (Max Speed at Level 30: 56)

Accuracy: 85 %

Pokémon that learn it in Petit Cup:

:ekans: Ekans (Max Speed at Level 30: 65)
:bellsprout: Bellsprout (Max Speed at Level 30: 56)
:dratini: Dratini (Max Speed at Level 30: 62)

Dratini is the best Partial Trapping Moves user of the format because it has Agility and can use Dragon Rage or Surf against the few Pokémon that resist or are immune to the attack.

Sleep Moves users

These are the Sleep moves that are available in Petit Cup and the Pokémon that learn them:

Accuracy: 55 %

Pokémon that learn it in Petit Cup:

:clefairy: Clefairy
:jigglypuff: Jigglypuff

Accuracy: 60 %

Pokémon that learn it in Petit Cup:

:poliwag: Poliwag
:gastly: Gastly
:exeggcute: Exeggcute

Accuracy: 75 %

Pokémon that learn it in Petit Cup:

:oddish: Oddish
:bellsprout: Bellsprout

Accuracy: 99.6 % in Pokémon Yellow and 100% in Pokémon Stadium 1

Pokémon that learn it in Petit Cup:

:paras: Paras

Remember that Sleep only lasts between one and three turns in Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon Stadium 1 and that the status is blocked by Substitute in the latter game.

Critical Hits on Petit Cup

Despite what many think, Critical Hits don’t do double damage in Gen I, instead of that, their damage depends on the level of the pokémon. A level 2 pokémon will deal 1.29 times damage when it scores a Critical Hit; while a level 100 pokémon will deal 1.95 times damage.

Below is the list of the Critical Hit Multipliers of the different levels of the Petit Cup Pokémon:

Level 25 – 1.833
Level 26 – 1.839
Level 27 – 1.844
Level 28 – 1.849
Level 29 – 1.853

Analysis of the format

The Petit Cup is a format of extremes, most Pokémon have one or two good stats while the rest are bad, e.g. Abra has high Special and Speed, but low HP, Attack and Defense; this results in a fast, offensive format where Pokemon with Dragon Rage often perform well.

The format is centered around the Top Tiers, half of them are fast and have strong attacks: Abra has Psychic and can paralyze opponents with Thunder Wave; Diglett outspeeds any Pokémon that is not Voltorb and strikes hard with Earthquake and Rock Slide; finally, Poliwag is a mixed attacker. The other top mons are slow but compensate for it with other traits: Clefairy is a mixed attacker that has Thunder Wave; Exeggcute has good bulk, can recover with Rest, shatters its opponent minds with Psychic and can Explode; finally, Dratini has many Special Attacks, can annoy its opponent with AgiliWrap and has access to Dragon Rage, an attack that is dangerous in a format full of Pokémon with low HP. The High Tier Pokémon also have some advantages, but they're not as strong as the Top Tiers.

In this format, Paralysis is the best status condition that you can inflict in your opponent (well, Freeze is the best status, but you can't inflict it at will). Petit Cup is a fast and ultra violent format, so you should make each one of your moves count.

Is it possible to get max Stats on Pika Cup and other low Level formats?

I played with the EV training in Gen I. I wondered which was better for a Level 5 Starmie that I wanted to raise until Level 20: to fight only Level 2 Nidoran female, Level 2 Pidgeys or Level 2 Rattatas. Nidoran female gives 16 Experience Points, Pidgey gives 15 Experience Points, while Rattata gives 16. Regarding EVs, Nidoran female gives 235, Pidgey gives 216, while Rattata gives 218 (I got those numbers by adding the EVs of HP, Attack, Defense, Special and Speed). In theory, fighting against Nidoran female should be better because Starmie gets more EVs.

Before starting the fights, I gave Starmie 50 vitamins in each scenario: 10 HP Ups, 10 Protein, 10 Iron, 10 Calcium and 10 Carbos. Once Starmie reached level 20, I made it fight again just before it reached level 21, then I used the Box Trick to see if the extra EVs increased its stats.

At the end, it turned out that fighting against Nidoran female was better because Starmie got its maximum Hit Points, Attack and Defense; however, it lost one point of its maximum Speed. Fighting Pidgey was the second best option because Starmie got maximum Speed at the expense of lossing one point of Hit Points and Defense.

starmie 2.png

starmie 3.png

The interesting part of this experiment was that I discovered that it was possible for Pokémon like Starmie to get maximum Hit Points, Attack, Defense and Speed at level 20 using this method.

Conclusion: It is possible to have some max Stats in the Pika Cup, well, at least if the Pokémon can be caught at Level 5 or lower, is raised to level 20 and belongs to the Slow Experience Group (the mons that need the most experience to level up).

There are other two Level 2 wild Pokémon in Gen I: Spearow and Nidoran male, if I can, I'll do the math for those too.

I already discovered a way to EV train any Pokemon without leveling them up.

All Gens - Past Gens Research Thread | Page 9 | Smogon Forums

Abusing integer division with shared experience and Exp. All can let you have anything including a L2 Rattata with maxed EVs legally, or have a Pokemon with 0 Attack EVs and maxed stats everywhere else. Admittedly, this method also takes a LOT of time, so it would be best to EV train the standard way as much as you can.

@Enigami My friend Gunmas tested your method and it worked! The four Pokémon that didn't fight got 0 Experience Points. This is a great discovery because it allows any Pokémon to have max EVs on low level formats like the Pika Cup, the Petit Cup and the Nintendo Cup '98. The discovery of this method also makes valid the use of the Gen II Daycare mechanics to get maximum EVs for Gen I Pokémon, because the results are the same (in fact, that method is faster and less tedious).

Thanks a lot for your contribution chum!

A variation on that method also works to gain 0 EXP and 0 Attack EVs while gaining EVs in every other stat, so setting Attack EVs to 0 to reduce Confusion damage in Little/Pika/Petit Cup is also legal.

Also learned of this recently:
ThrowbackVGC2000 - YouTube

ThrowbackVGC is the brother Álvaro, champion of the Spanish National Pika Cup in 2000. He made a pair of videos about his brother competing in the European championship in 2000, and the lead up to that including his run in the Spanish National Pika Cup. He also has links to videos about the Spanish Poke Cup and Prime Cup champions as well. Interesting bit of competitive history for 3 of the 4 Stadium Cup formats!

Pokémon Stadium 1 Event Battle, Time Limits and Tiebraker Criteria

Hello chums, in this post I will talk about official Time Limits and Tiebraker Criteria which are found in Pokémon Stadium 1.

In the main menu there is a two player option called Event Battle, which is only accesible if both players have a Pokémon Game Boy Game Pak with six Pokémon in their party that meet any of the four cups requirements; unfortunately, due to this, the option is not available in the Nintendo Switch port.

When you select Event Battle, you get to a new menu which has the following options:

  • Poké Cup: This is the Nintendo Cup ‘97, the first official Pokémon tournament in History.
  • Petit Cup: A cup for cute Pokémon of levels 25-30.
  • Prime Cup: The only format where the Ubers are allowed. Pokémon Levels can range from 2-100.
  • Pika Cup: A cup for Pokémon of levels 15-20. Dragon Rage users, Alakazam, Chansey and Jynx are powerful here.
  • Event Battle Settings: Where you can set the battles' options.
  • Cancel: Returns you to the main menu.

The Japanese version of the game has two more options:

  • Nintendo Cup ‘98: Another format based on another official tournament. Only Pokémon that are available at levels 2-30 and that can be used in Pokémon Stadium Zero are allowed.
  • Nintendo Cup ‘99: The final official Japanese tournament of the Gen I era. Only Level 50 Pokémon are allowed, except those which species were used by the local champions of the Poké Cup and the Nintendo Cup ‘98.
Despite popular belief, it is possible to play the latter formats in the international versions of the game, players just have to select Prime Cup for the Nintendo Cup ‘98 and Poké Cup for the Nintendo Cup ‘99, species bans and Level restrictions have to be enforced manually, though (e.g. players have to make sure all their Pokémon are at Level 50 when they play the Nintendo Cup ‘99).

Now let’s talk about the options we’re more interested. In Event Battle Settings you can set the time limit for choosing a command (Move Selection Time) and for the overall battle (Battle Time) as shown below:

DefaultMinimumMaximum
Battle Time
15 minutes
5 minutes
90 minutes
Move Selection Time
30 seconds
10 seconds
90 seconds

3.jpeg
4.jpeg
5.jpeg

Battle Time’s duration can be increased or reduced by 5 minutes, e.g. from 5 minutes to 10 to 15, etc. On the other hand, the Move Selection Time can be increased or reduced by 5 seconds, e.g. from 90 seconds to 85 to 80, etc.

Time Limits are On by default; however, players can turn them Off if they want. Finally, there is no in-game time limit for selecting Pokémon during Team Preview.

As mentioned before, the Move Selection Time is the time players have to choose a command, be it a Move, a Switch or a Replacement, if their Pokémon have fainted. If the time runs out, players are not disqualified, instead, the CPU forces them to do a specific action, which depends on which option was selected when the time ran out; those actions are mentioned below:
  • If the time runs out and nothing was selected, the CPU chooses the current Pokémon’s first Move, if that doesn’t have Power Points, then it chooses the second Move, if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses the third Move, if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses the fourth Move and if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses Struggle.
  • If the time runs out and the Battle button was pressed, the CPU chooses the current Pokémon’s first Move, if that doesn’t have PP, then it chooses the second Move, if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses the third Move, if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses the fourth Move and if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses Struggle.
  • If the time runs out and the Pokémon button was pressed, the CPU chooses the first Pokémon, if it is already out, then it chooses the second Pokémon, unless it has fainted, in which case it selects the third Pokémon.
  • If the time runs out when the player has to replace a fainted Pokémon, the CPU chooses the first Pokémon, if it already fainted, then it chooses the second Pokémon and if that one fainted too, then it chooses the third Pokémon.
  • If the time runs out and the Run (forfeit) button was pressed, the CPU chooses the current Pokémon’s first Move, if that doesn’t have PP, then it chooses the second Move, if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses the third Move, if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses the fourth Move and if that doesn’t have PP either, then it chooses Struggle.

Normally, if the Battle Time runs out, a whistle sounds, the announcer says “That’s it, the battle is over” and the results of the battle are determined using the tiebraker criteria; however, there are some situations that can increase the Battle Time:

  • If the Battle Time runs out before the Moves/Switches animations finish, the animations continue to play and, after that, the battle finally ends. The actions that take place after the Battle Time runs out are also taken into account to determine the results.
  • If the Battle Time runs out when one or both players are selecting a Move/Pokémon, the battle continues and the players can continue to choose a Move/Pokémon (if their Selection Time runs out, then the CPU chooses a Move/Pokémon for them), then the Moves/Switches animations play and, after that, the battle finally ends. The actions that take place after the Battle Time runs out are also taken into account to determine the results.
  • If the Battle Time runs out when one or both players are replacing a fainted Pokémon, the battle continues and the players can continue to choose a Pokémon (if their Selection Time runs out, then the CPU chooses a Pokémon for them), then the Switches animations play and, after that, the battle finally ends.

If the Battle Time runs out, the winner is determined using these criteria in the following order: number of remaining Pokémon and Total combined remaining strength.

9.jpeg

The first criterion is easy to explain: the player that has more Pokémon alive when the battle finishes, wins; however, the second criterion confused me at the beginning. Unlike future official tournaments, Pokémon Stadium 1 doesn’t use the Sum of Hit Points Percentages, instead, it uses a criterion that is called in the instruction booklet as Total combined remaining strength. To understand how this criterion works, first we need to remember how the Hit Points bar works. The bar has a length of 48 pixels and changes color depending on how much damage a Pokémon has gotten. Below you can see which color represents which range:

ColorNumber of PixelsPercentage
Green
27 - 48
56.25 % - 100 %
Yellow
10 - 26
20.833 % - 54.167 %
Red
1 - 9
2.083 % - 18.75 %
None
0
0 %

If both players have one remaining Pokémon when the Battle time runs out, the CPU compares the color of the Pokémon Hit Points bar. If, for example, both are green, the match is declared a Draw, even if one Pokémon has 75 % and the other 100 %. Below are all the possible results:

Pokémon APokémon BResult
Green HP bar
Green HP bar

Green HP bar
Red HP bar

Yellow HP bar
Yellow HP bar
Draw
Yellow HP bar
Red HP bar
Pokémon A wins
Red HP bar
Red HP bar

11.jpeg

In situations where both players have more than one remaining Pokémon, the winner is determined depending on who has more Pokémon with Green HP bars; e.g. if Player 1 has two Pokémon with Green HP bars and one Pokémon with a Yellow HP bar and Player 2 has three Pokémon with Green HP bars, then Player 2 wins. If no one has Pokémon with Green HP bars, then the player that has more Pokémon with Yellow HP bars wins; e.g. if Player 1 has two Pokémon with Yellow HP bars and Player 2 has one Pokémon with a Yellow HP bar and one Pokémon with a Red HP bar, then Player 1 wins. Finally, if both players only have Pokémon with Red HP bars, the match is declared a Draw.

13.jpeg
14.jpeg
15.jpeg

In my opinion, this criterion can be unfair and arbitrary, because it can declare a Draw in situations where the Pokémon of one team have more Hit Points than those of the other team.

Note: All tests were done using an original Nintendo 64 cartridge.

Despite its advantages, Event Battle has a problem: it doesn't allow Rental Pokémon, which makes impossible for players to use Pokémon like Ponyta in the Pika Cup or Level 50 Dragonite in the Poké Cup, Players that want to use those Pokémon have to play in the Free Battle mode, which is identical to Event Battle, except because it doesn't have time limits.

Well, that’s all for now. In the next days I’ll write an article about Pokémon Stadium 2 Event Battle (don’t worry, that game has more fair Tiebraker Criteria).

A New Take on Pokémon Stadium's Pika Cup

Ok, I don't think this will become a meta, but I found interesting and decided to post.

The Pika Cup rules currently don't allow tradebacks with GSC, so there is another meta exclusive for those who like to use tradebacks. But my take here is something in between those two. See, Pokémon Stadium have a legality check for moves. If the Pokémon is not supposed to learn a move at an specific level or just can't learn the move at all, it will flag the move and the trainer name in red. This also applies to tradebacks, so even tough you can, as an example, have an Alakazam with Ice Punch and Thunderpunch obtained legitimaly, the game will flag those moves as illegal. Now, for the Pokémon themselves, the only legality check is for Mew and Mewtwo, who are banned, but any other Pokémon can enter the Pika Cup as long as it is between levels 15 and 20. That means if you catch a Pokémon who meets those conditions in GSC, tradeback to RBY and use it in the Pika Cup, the game will not flag as illegal. By the Pokémon Stadium rules, it does fit the criteria. So what would happen if you allow tradebacks BUT ONLY if the Pokémon passes the legality check done by Pokémon Stadium?

Those are the new Pokémon you could legitimaly obtain and use in those circumstances:
  • Aerodactyl
  • Arbok
  • Dodrio*
  • Eevee
  • Electabuzz
  • Flareon
  • Gloom
  • Golbat
  • Grimer
  • Hypno (starting at Lv 16)
  • Jolteon
  • Machoke
  • Magmar
  • Magneton*
  • Marowak
  • Persian (starting at Lv 18)
  • Primeape
  • Rapidash*
  • Sandslash
  • Seaking
  • Snorlax
  • Tauros
  • Vaporeon
  • Venomoth
  • Victreebel
  • Vileplume
  • Weepinbell
  • Weezing (starting at Lv 16)
*Dodrio, Magneton and Rapidash are only possible by using in-game trades in GSC. Even though the traded Pokémon can have any combination of DVs in RBY, in GSC the DVs are pre-defined and are always the same for each Pokémon, so those would need a special rule regarding the DVs.

New features would be available even for currently allowed Pokémon. Kangaskhan and Muk would became available in international versions (they are exclusive to japanese games). Golem is also a japanese exclusive, but this one is still unobtainable in international versions even with tradebacks allowed. Also, Koffing, Ponyta and Seel would also become available outside their rental-only versions, so you could change their movesets and maximize their stats, if you ever wanted to use them for some reason. Other features include:

  • Alakazam/Kadabra starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 16)
  • Alakazam/Kadabra with Disable starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible at Lv 20)
  • Alakazam/Kadabra with Kinesis starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible at Lv 20)
  • Arcanine with Ember starting at Lv 15* (normally only possible at Lv 18)
  • Beedrill with Harden + Poison Sting/String Shot (normally those combinations are illegal)
  • Clefable with Minimize*
  • Clefable with Doubleslap starting at Lv 15* (normally only possible starting at Lv 18)
  • Cloyster with Aurora Beam*
  • Cloyster with Clamp*
  • Cloyster with Supersonic starting at Lv 15* (normally only possible starting at Lv 18)
  • Cubone starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 16)
  • Doduo starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 18)
  • Dugtrio with custom nickname starting at Lv 16 (Lv 15 still needs "GURIO" nickname, as 16 is the lowest level you can find it in GSC)
  • Exeggutor/Exeggcute starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible at Lv 20)
  • Farfetch’d with custom nickname (normally named "DUX")
  • Fearow starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 19)
  • Gengar/Haunter (normally only possible at Lv 20)
  • Gastly starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 18)
  • Gyarados with Hydro Pump*
  • Gyarados with Leer*
  • Gyarados with Bite starting at Lv 15* (normally only possible at Lv 20)
  • Jynx with custom nickname at Lv 20 (Lvs 15 to 19 still needs "LOLA" nickname, as 20 is the lowest level you can find it in GSC)
  • Kabuto starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 20)
  • Lickitung with custom nickname (normally named "MARC")
  • Machamp starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 16)
  • Magnemite starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 16)
  • Mr.Mime with custom nickname (normally named "MARCEL" or "MILES")
  • Nidoking with Thrash*
  • Nidoqueen with Tail Whip*
  • Ninetales with Roar*
  • Ninetales with Quick Attack at Lv 15* (normally only possible starting at Lv 16)
  • Omanyte starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 20)
  • Poliwrath with Doubleslap*
  • Porygon starting at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 18)
  • Rhyhorn staring at Lv 15 (normally only possible starting at Lv 20)
  • Starmie with Harden*
  • Tangela with custom nickname (normally named "CRINKLES")
  • Wigglytuff with Doubleslap*
  • Wigglytuff with Defense Curl starting at Lv 15* (normally only possible starting at Lv 19)
*Those marked with an "*" are only possible with the move relearner in Pokémon Stadium 2. Some Pokémon in RBY that are impossible to obtain directly have moves programed to them as basic (Lv 1) moves; they can only be obtained by evolving another Pokémon, and in those cases the moves of the evolved Pokémon are just the same as it's unevolved form at the time. The Move Relearner, however, take those moves into account and thus allow you to teach them at any level. And yes, they're still considered as legal in the Pika Cup by Pokémon Stadium (in fact, a few rentals have some of those moves, like Cloyster).

And finally, the "allows tradebacks DVs" rule of the current Pika Cup meta is (almost) irrelevant here, since we're already allowing tradebacks, so the Pokémon are allowed to have full range DVs (Pokémon Stadium doesn't have any legality check regarding DVs). Well, with one exception: Slowbro. The minimum level this Pokémon can be catched in GSC is Lv 20, so only in this level it would be possible to have any DVs combination. At least at Lv 18, Slowbro maintain it's max stats with the 13/15/15/14/15 DVs combination, but in any other level it loses one point in HP and/or Speed.

Hello.

Attached is a comprehensive guide I wrote for Petit Cup via Pokemon Stadium.
Holy hell this is monumental research. You have lowered the barrier of entry to Petit Cup by a ridiculous margin for anyone even tangentially interested.

As you can tell by the lack of Petit Cup discussion around, there's not a lot of active interest here yet, but with a resource like this I'm pretty sure we could run reasonably big tournaments, anyone with any RBY experience will be able to hop in and play. If that's something you would like to see, I'm down to pull some strings and try to get something running. I think it would be a genuine shame if a resource like this was not put to practical use by our community, even if no one is actively playing this specific metagame at the moment.
