[overview]
**Draft order**: Round 5 onwards

**Price range**: 9-10 points

**Overview**: Galarian Weezing may have mediocre stats, but it consolidates many important utility options and type resistances into one team slot, making it a high value mid-tier support option for many drafts. Its amazing defensive typing, combined with Levitate, makes it a solid physical wall with good matchups against relevant top-tier picks like Garchomp and Great Tusk; Neutralizing Gas allows it to disrupt many Pokemon that rely on their abilities like Serperior and Tornadus-T, and it supports its teammates in battle with its deep utility movepool.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive utility**: While these sets will still generally invest into defensive bulk, a utility Galarian Weezing will focus on using its options like Will-O-Wisp or Toxic Spikes to make progress during a game. These sets don't specifically focus on longevity, so they may forgo recovery options in favor of more utility or coverage.

**Defensive wall**: Alternatively, Galarian Weezing can take advantage of its excellent defensive typing and solid physical bulk to wall offensive threats. These sets aim to have as much longevity as possible through the use of Pain Split, Black Sludge + Protect, or Sitrus Berry.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Strange Steam, Play Rough, Dazzling Gleam, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Gunk Shot

**Setup moves**: Bye bye!

**Utility moves**: Clear Smog, Defog, Destiny Bond, Haze, Memento, Pain Split, Protect, Taunt, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Will-O-Wisp

**Coverage**: Dark Pulse, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Overheat, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt

Niche Moves
========
**Explosion / Misty Explosion**: Explosion and Misty Explosion allow Galarian Weezing to KO itself, dealing a lot of damage and simultaneously giving one of its teammates a free switch in.

**Thief**: Galarian Weezing's physical bulk and resistance to Dark make it a reliable Knock Off switch-in, so Thief can be a niche option to steal an item if you expect Galarian Weezing's item to be removed via Knock Off.

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Galarian Weezing will take many physical attacks during battle, and will often run Rocky Helmet to punish physical attackers that make contact with it.

**Black Sludge**: Galarian Weezing has no reliable recovery on its own, so it often runs Black Sludge for passive recovery, sometimes in combination with Protect for more safe healing.

**Sitrus Berry**: Sitrus Berry is an alternative to Black Sludge that is better in situations where Galarian Weezing won't get many free turns to heal from Black Sludge's passive recovery. It is also useful to sometimes turn a 2HKO on Galarian Weezing into a 3HKO.

Niche Items
========
**Custap Berry**: Custap Berry is usually combined with Destiny Bond to surprise a foe attempting to finish off a low HP Galarian Weezing.

**Resistance Berries**: On Levitate sets, Galarian Weezing only has two weaknesses, so coverage dedicated for it is fairly predictable. As such, it's relatively safe to run a resistance Berry on Galarian Weezing to survive a super effective hit, but this is usually less helpful than what its common items provide.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: When not running Levitate, Galarian Weezing can use Heavy-Duty Boots to avoid taking too much damage from Spikes and Stealth Rock during a game.

Tera
========
Galarian Weezing should generally not be a Tera Captain, as it lacks offensive power and its main selling point is its excellent defensive typing. If you truly don't have anything else on your draft that can make better use of Tera than Galarian Weezing, then it can be okay as a second Tera Captain. It will primarily use defensive Tera types like Steel or Fire and combine them with Levitate to create even better defensive typings.

Draft Strategy
========
Galarian Weezing should never be the centerpiece of a draft, nor should it be a Pokemon you focus on supporting. Instead, Galarian Weezing is a strong support piece for other Pokemon thanks to its high utility. Some examples of teammates and teams that benefit from Galarian Weezing are:

**Drafts that need a physical wall**: Galarian Weezing's typing and abilities allow it to naturally check a lot of common physical attacks. There are many dangerous physical Ground-, Fighting-, Dragon-, and Dark-type threats, and Galarian Weezing is generally able to check these Pokemon very effectively. To break through Galarian Weezing, these Pokemon will usually have to run an otherwise suboptimal move or set, making them easier to deal with for the rest of the team.

**Status-weak threats**: Galarian Weezing is a great status absorber. It cannot be poisoned, it doesn't care about being burned or paralyzed too much, and it can even run Misty Surge to block status effects for its teammates. Top-tier threats that heavily dislike status effects like Palafin and Ogerpon-W appreciate Galarian Weezing's ability to switch into status moves.

**Bulky setup sweepers / Unburden Pokemon**: With Misty Surge support from Galarian Weezing, its teammates can use Misty Seed. This pairs well with bulky setup sweepers like Iron Hands and Latias, allowing for easier setup, and also provides a nice option to trigger Unburden for Pokemon like Sneasler and Hawlucha.

Checks and Counters
========
**Poison-types**: Poison-types resist Galarian Weezing's STAB moves, are immune to Toxic, and Galarian Weezing has no super effective coverage with which to hit them. Poison-types that don't mind being burned are very safe and effective switch-ins to Galarian Weezing.

**Special attacks**: Galarian Weezing's special bulk isn't impressive at all—even when invested. Physical attackers with standard sets walled by Galarian Weezing like Landorus-T will often use a special coverage attack to hit Galarian Weezing hard, so Galarian Weezing must scout for these lures.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Strange Steam, Play Rough, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Gunk Shot (i think dgleam is worth a mention here, not being able to miss is pretty nice)

**Setup moves**: Curse (feels niche if worth a mention at all)

**Utility moves**: Clear Smog, Defog, Destiny Bond, Haze, Pain Split, Protect, Taunt, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Will-O-Wisp

**Coverage**: Dark Pulse, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Overheat, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt

Niche Moves (maybe acid spray is worth a mention? might be too niche though)
========
**Self-KO moves**: With access to Memento, Explosion, and Misty Explosion, Galarian Weezing has many different options to KO itself. Memento can be used to give one of Galarian Weezing's teammates an easy set up opportunity, while Explosion and Misty Explosion provide a lot of damage.

**Thief**: Galarian Weezing's physical bulk and resistance to Dark make it a reliable Knock Off switch in, and Thief can be a niche option to steal an item if you expect Galarian Weezing's item to be knocked off.

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Galarian Weezing will take many physical attacks during battle, and will often run Rocky Helmet to punish physical attackers who make contact with it.

**Black Sludge**: Galarian Weezing has no reliable recovery on its own, so it often runs Black Sludge for passive recovery, sometimes in combination with Protect for more safe healing.

As such, it's relatively safe to run a resistance Berry on Galarian Weezing to survive a super effective hit, but this is usually less helpful than what its common items provide.

**Damage-boosting items**: Galarian Weezing's offensive movepool is decent, having solid coverage and high base power attacks. Despite its relatively low offensive stats, its movepool allows it to be used more offensively in some matchups, and a damage boosting item like Choice Specs or Expert Belt can be used to boost its damage output.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: When not running Levitate, Galarian Weezing can use Heavy-Duty Boots to avoid taking too much damage from Spikes and Stealth Rock during a game.

Draft Strategy (would be nice to mention it checking physical dragons asw. or could compress ground and fighting weak drafts to physical attackers just as a whole)
========
Galarian Weezing should never be the centerpiece of a draft, nor should it be a Pokemon you focus on supporting. Instead, Galarian Weezing is a strong support piece for other Pokemon thanks to its high utlity. Some examples of teammates and teams that benefit from Galarian Weezing are:

**Ground and Fighting weak drafts**: Most Ground-type and Fighting-type threats are physical attackers, so Galarian Weezing is generally able to check these Pokemon very effectively. To break through Galarian Weezing, these Pokemon will usually have to run an otherwise unoptimal move or set, which heavily limits their effectiveness, making them easier to deal with for the rest of the team.

**Status weak threats**: Galarian Weezing is a great status absorber. It cannot be poisoned, it doesn't care about being burned or paralyzed too much, and it can even run Misty Surge to block status effects for its teammates. Top tier threats who heavily dislike status effects like Palafin and Ogerpon-W appreciate Galarian Weezing's ability to switch into status moves.
