NU Froslass (QC 1/1) (GP 1/1)

[OVERVIEW]

Froslass makes for a great dedicated lead because of its high Speed stat and access to the coveted Spikes. On top of that, its support movepool can enable it to cripple the opposing team with status moves like Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave, shut down opposing leads with Taunt and Icy Wind, or even take down a Pokemon with Destiny Bond. Even though Froslass is a strong lead option, it is quite linear in what it can do because of its terrible bulk and defensive typing, which make it quite difficult to hit the field in the middle of a game. Teams that can shrug off Froslass's status spam with reliable entry hazard control and cleric support often result in Froslass accomplishing nothing, essentially forcing the user to play a 5v6 game.

With a Focus Sash, Froslass can consistently set up at least two layers of Spikes against the majority of the metagame. Taunt prevents opposing entry hazard setters such as Mudsdale and Duraludon from attempting to trade hazards. Icy Wind and Thunder Wave slow down and cripple faster Pokemon such as Aerodactyl and Salazzle; this lets Froslass set up another layer of Spikes or use Destiny Bond to take them out next turn. Will-O-Wisp similarly cripples offensive threats, hitting targets such as Drapion and Copperajah, which would otherwise easily shrug off Froslass's moves. Will-O-Wisp even allows Froslass to tank a Rock Blast from Stakataka, which would normally KO Froslass through its Focus Sash.

Focus Sash users such as Aerodactyl and Salazzle greatly appreciate Froslass's ability to reliably prevent opposing entry hazards from going up with Taunt so as to keep their Focus Sash intact. Common hyper offense staples like Silvally-Ground, Decidueye, and Omastar appreciate the Spikes support to soften up their checks while applying enough pressure to make it difficult for the opponent to safely remove Spikes. Additionally, Pokemon that deter the use of Defog such as Defiant Passimian and Braviary as well as spinblockers like Dhelmise and the aforementioned Decidueye further help keep Spikes up.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Although Froslass has low Attack, its great offensive typing and high-Base Power moves can make it quite threatening as a Choice Band user, with Poltergeist, Triple Axel, priority in Ice Shard, and Switcheroo to cripple defensive walls. However, Choice Band Froslass is thoroughly outclassed by Sneasel, as it lacks Knock Off and is slower and weaker.

Checks and Counters
====

**Faster Offensive Threats**: Although Froslass can cripple faster Pokemon such as Aerodactyl, Salazzle, and Talonflame with Thunder Wave, these Pokemon will still beat it one-on-one, or at least trade on a Destiny Bond, meaning Froslass only gets one layer of Spikes up.

**Reliable Entry Hazard Control**: Froslass is quite passive besides it setting up Spikes and using status moves; teams with reliable entry hazard control from Pokemon such as Defog Rotom-C and Rapid Spin Tsareena are able to minimize Froslass's role in setting hazards.

**Anti Leads**: Kabutops and Aerodactyl are other common suicide leads and carry Rock Blast, limiting Froslass to one or zero layers of Spikes.

Froslass is one of few viable Spikes users available in the tier, and with its great Speed and (stated in the Overview) With a Focus Sash, it Froslass can often (no need for often and consistently) consistently set up at least 2 layers of Spikes against majority of the metagame. Taunt prevents opposing hazard setters such as Mudsdale and Duraludon from attempting to trade hazards. Icy Wind and Thunder Wave mean that even faster Pokemon such as Aerodactyl and Salazzle will still end up crippled or damaged for later in the game while also slowing them down enough to allow Froslass to set up a Spike next turn or Destiny Bond and completely take them out. Will-O-Wisp similarly cripples offensive threats, hitting targets such as Drapion and Copperajah which would otherwise easily shrug off Froslass's moves. Will-O-Wisp even allows Froslass to tank a Rock Blast from Stakataka, which would normally KO Froslass through its Focus Sash.

Common hyper offense staples like Silvally-Ground, Decidueye, and Omastar appreciate the Spikes support to soften up their checks for them while applying enough pressure to make it difficult for the opponent to safely remove Spikes. Additionally, Defog deterrent such as Defiant Passimian and Braviary and Spin-blockers like Dhelmise and the aforementioned Decidueye further help keep those Spikes up.

Although Froslass has a low base Attack stat, it's great offensive typing and high BP moves can make it quite threatening as a Choice Band user, with Poltergeist, Triple Axel, and even priority in Ice Shard, and Switcheroo to cripple defensive walls. Choice Band Froslass is thoroughly outclassed by Sneasel, though. (add a tiny bit more here about why Sneasel would outclass CB Lass. Is it as a physical breaker? Ice-type? Knock Off?)

Checks and Counters
====

**Faster offensive threats**: Although Froslass can cripple faster Pokemon such as Aerodactyl, Salazzle, and Talonflame with Thunder Wave, these Pokemon will still beat it 1v1, or at least trade on a Destiny Bond, meaning Froslass only gets one layer of Spikes up.

**Reliable Hazard Control**: Froslass is quite passive besides it setting up Spikes and using Status moves; teams with reliable hazard control such as Defog Rotom-C or Rapid Spin Tsareena mean Froslass may be KO'd in vain should it only set up 2 Spikes that can easily be removed before going down.
