Metagame Foresighters

Haze, Court Change, and Trick Room all count as targeting the user's side and not the opponent's, and they all fail "because the target is the user" if the user is still on the field two turns later.

If the user leaves the field before the move lands, then they work (or at least Trick Room does, I didn't test the others).

Haven’t tested it but would a terrain setting move work?

Only one move can target a Pokemon at a time, not sure if this is necessary to code the format. This means I can protect my Pokemon from future Skill Swap for example when I Nasty Plot.

That's intended.
Endeavor uses the original Pokemon's HP, and knocks out Pokemon if the HP is 0.
That's what I explained. They use the original user's stats.

OK so I peaked #2 on ladder and I've collected a decent amount of experience to talk about what I think should be banned and what shouldn't

:azelf: Endeavour: The obvious one, there's not much you can do when something clicks this, and with such a wide pool of those mons it's not impossible to just run into something that just teched on Endeavour when you couldn't have thought to play around it
:archaludon: Archaludon: See OU, literally nothing changes really
:veluza: :falinks: No Retreat, Fillet Away: People want these banned but I've legit never seen them work once. Just mentioned because other people have. Both of these mons suck, just use a move before them and they're back to being PU mons
:iron-bundle: Iron Bundle: Again, see what happened when this was in OU, this thing was apparently unbanned by mistake anyway soooo
:ogerpon-hearthflame: Ogerpon-Hearthflame: yeah.
:tornadus-therian: :landorus-therian: NP and SD: The former I want banned, the pool of mons that can pass it is much wider and the receivers are just better, while SD seems perfectly fine, with less powerful receivers and the only good passer being Lando.
:heatran: Magma Storm: I'd put this on the watchlist for a restrict. Magma Storm passing can be devastating.... but it feels almost random when it actually works or not. Nonetheless, the options you have in dealing with a tran about to activate it are pretty slim aside from risking using your own self-targeting move when Heatran itself is very powerful and could very easily burn you with lava plume, get rocks up, or outright kill you.

I don't know if it's intended behaviour but stat dropping moves like overheat, leaf storm, close combat don't actually drop stats (I was experimenting with contrary enamorous).

If this is how it should work it looks like they're the best attacking moves in the foresight slot

The user's stats drop if the user is on the field, but if the user is not on the field the stat drops can't be applied to the user and are ignored. I'm guessing this is intended behavior.

Hyper Beam works the same way: there's no recharge turn required if the user is not on the field when it hits. Solar Beam does still have a charge turn (if it's not sunny), since the charge turn happens before the attack is foreseen.

Something to note about Hyper Beam: The recharge gets applied to the user even if it's not on the field when the move hits. If it ever switches in again, it has to spend its next turn recharging.
A similar thing happens with pivot moves actually. If another mon is out when the pivot move hits, you don't switch. But you do once the user is back on the field, causing another switch instantly. This doesn't even seem to count as the user entering the field, as hazards and abilities like Intimidate don't trigger.

Here's a replay showing that, as well as some other interactions:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9foresighters-2073191122-f762qbvlpb1aptzalnsya9k3rlti200pw
  • A foresighted move triggers on-contact abilities actually against the user, even if it's not on the field (At least Poison Point does. I just stumbled upon that by accident, lol)
    • Not shown here, but Rocky Helmet and Rough Skin don't trigger in this case. I suppose the HP of a mon in the back can't be affected?
  • Healing Wish KO's the user after the foresight delay, and even works if it faints immediately after using the move.
  • Recoil moves do not cause recoil is the user isn't on the field once it hits. Steel Beam however still costs you HP on use (and even costs HP a second time if the user stays in when it connects...)

Whimisictott is lowkey an S-tier support mon with cotton guard as the first move. This is the set I've been using:

1709578229507.png

Whimsicott @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Cotton Guard
- Light Screen
- Memento
- U-turn

Set up light screen, cotton guard, then memento/u-turn into setup sweeper. Prankster is huge in this meta because it ensures your move gets foresighted if your opponent targets you with their foresighted move

I believe this could be a fun set :

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock

Blissey lost wish in gen 9 so this could be a possible alternative. It is one move slower but it kind of works.

Except it only heals the recipient for 50% of the recipient's HP, not 50% of Blissey's HP. Also, I would replace either Thunder Wave or Stealth Rock with Rest so you have some form of recovery other than Leftovers.

Kind of. Focus Punch never hit, maybe because of Truant or the type immunity from Ceruledge? But it also gave me two turns of immunity to sighted moves from the opposing side.
Focus Punch never hit because you never used Focus Punch due to Truant. Similarly, if you get hit and lose focus, Focus Punch won't hit. If the move succeeds, then it will hit two turns later.

I actually found a pretty nice pairing. corviknight with this setup:
1709689149929.png
leftovers as the item, mirror armor as ability, Nasty plot as the first move, then roost, iron head, and U-turn. Then walking wake with this setup: booster energy as the item, with hone claws as the first move, hydro steam, dragon pulse, and flamethrower. make sure that walking wakes speed is higher than his SPA for maximum efficiency

On a separate note, Archaludon will need to be checked more thoroughly so no action will be taken for now. It will most likely be voted for against soon, so stay tuned!
