Pokémon Dragonite

I have a question for everyone running the Extreme Speed Dragonite.

Is the speed EV necessary considering it relies so heavily on the priority move anyways? Is it not better to invest the EV into HP or something that helps it take a few more hits?

Dragonite (M) @ Choice Band
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 6 SpD
Ability: Multiscale
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

would not be viable?
depends. Choice band sets are already pretty slow so you could probably afford to invest in more bulk, although I'm not sure I would leave Spe completely uninvested. ES only has 8 pp so on a choice set that leaves you pretty screwed after you burn thru those. On DD sets, I think you could lower your speed a bit depending on what mons you're trying to outspeed.

A dragonite abusing Shed Tail + Multiscale can often get 2 DDs before it is vulnerable, so you can invest speed to outrun certain Scarfers or Pult. Being able to outrun some threats at +1 could be situationally useful too, but with trade offs.

Notably, 60 Speed EVs puts you above Timid Dragapult after two DDs, which is an ESpeed immune threat.

Scarf Gholdengo is also another benchmark you could aim for.

Dragonite is still as good as its ever been if not even better. There are more threats to deal with but Dragonite is one of the most dangerous terastylizing pokemon out there. Also with the introduction of Shed Tail, Dragonite can easily win you the game. It is pretty slow, but Extreme Speed more than makes up for it. It has a few checks like Dragapult and Dondozo and also faces more competion as a sweeper/wall breaker but it is a solid OU mon.

134 base ATK Tera Normal 120 STAB +2 priority E.Speed
Only really one hard check in Dondozo.
Practically immune to Psychic Terrain due to 3/4 of the game, including itself, having access to Ice Spinner.
Forces your opponent to play a very VERY select few mons in order to deal with it, most of which are easy to play around (24kGholdngo)

It's a ridiculously oppressive threat in the current meta that apparently no one wants to address which, for a community that upholds "skill" above all else to maintain a balanced competitive scene, is completely braindead to use.
It's actively stopping a lot of team compositions from being viable, forces at least 1 team slot to deal with or threatens to Alt F4 the fun from the game.
This thing is a far bigger problem than it's being treated as and it's starting to appear to be favouritism from *ahem* certain individuals.
Swallow your pride and suspect test it.

Dragonite is clearly a top level threat, but by no means suspect worthy at the moment, it is defensively checked by a ton of of very viable defensive pokemon at the moment, as well as being able to be revenge killed by a few offensive pokemon.

These pokemon iclude:
(Note, all mons are from the current viability rankings):

Dondozo
Tera Garganacl
Physdef Great Tusk (BU or Ice Spinner)
Wisp Rotom-Wash
Wisp Rotom-Heat
Wisp Volcarona
Tera Skeledirge
Whirlwing Ting-Lu
Quagsire
Amoonguss
Scream Tail

Additionally all these pokemon check it as well under the condition that Dragonite doesn't run a coverage move they're weak to (90% of dragonite's run DD+EQ+Espeed+Ice Spinner / Tpunch / Fire Punch).

Scizor
Lead Garchomp
ID Corviknight
Slowbro
Orthworm

These pokemon ca alson outspeed and either KO or heavily cripple Dragonite if it has received prior chip, by either outspeed it, or tanking a hit than dealing damage.: (Deal 70% or more)

Scarf Gholdengo
Baxcalibur
Dragapult (Outspeeds +1 if adamant, tanks jolly if they don't have ice punch)
Specs Pelipper (If no tpunch)
Wo-Chien
