Pros:
- Fairly good coverage, able to hit most of the relevant threats of the meta
- Multiscale allows Dragonite to set up a lot easier than most setup sweepers, halving damage from a move it takes if it is at full health.
- Incredibly good physical attack stat, with very good defensive stats to back up it's multiscale ability
- Provides a useful ground immunity, as well as naturally walling a few key threats thanks to it's defensive typing, namely non ice punch Palafin, Great Tusks, Slither Wing and Volcarona.

Cons:
- Does not have a viable physical flying stab
- Fairly one-dimensional (can no longer really play bulky support due to heal bell and defog cuts)
- Heavily crippled by all kinds of status
- Has to rely on Heavy-Duty-Boots as an item

Terastal Potential:
- Terastalyze gives Dragonite back the flying coverage it lost with Flying Tera Blast, the additional stab bonus if you choose to go with Flying Tera means you can lunch a 160 bp flying move factoring in stab.
- Due to it's great defensive profile, Dragonite can effectively use defensive terastalyze to change it's defensive typing if need be
- Additionally it can choose a tera type to fill another coverage option, water, ice, rock, ghost and fighting are all fantastic options to complement earthquake offensively

Potential Sets:

Dragon Dance w/ Roost Tera Sweeper

:dragonite:

Dragonite @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Flying / Ghost / Water / Fighting / Rock / Ice
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Atk / 208 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Tera Blast / Ice Spinner (If Ice Tera) / Stone Edge (If Rock Tera) / Aqua Tail or Waterfall (If Water Tera)
- Earthquake
- Roost

Quite similar to the age-old Dragon Dance sweeper we all know and love (or hate), earthquake is fairly mandatory due to its incredible coverage and coherence with most offense types. Flying should usually be the tera type of choice, but Dragonite can easily customize it's Tera Type to fit it's teams offensive holes, it is worth noting that Tera Type can and should be replaced with a move of the corresponding tera type if Dragonite has it in it's movepool.
Dragonite is possibly one of the best current abusers of Shed Tail, due to the fact that multiscale plays a factor into the substitute's HP, making it incredibly difficult to break a substitute in one hit, making Cyclizar an incredible partner. Dragonite also greatly appreciates screens, giving it an easier time to sweep with Dragon Dance.
The speed benchmark allows it to outspeed a +1 Iron Bundle after 3 Dragon Dances

Dragon Dance Sweeper w/ Extreme Speed

:dragonite:
Dragonite @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal / Flying
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch / Thunder Punch / Tera Blast

An much more offensively inclined Dragonite, usually meant to sweep late game. Extreme Speed is quite possibly the best priority move in the game, with bolstered power with Extreme Speed if one chooses to use Tera Normal. Extreme Speed is quite useful especially against one of the main Dragonite checks: Chien Pao, since Extreme Speed has +2 priority. The final move is quite customizable, I personally opt for fire punch to hit steel types that are immune to earthquake (Corviknight, Air Balloon Gholdengo and Orthworm), it also hits Scizor.

Choice Band Dragonite

:dragonite:
Dragonite @ Choice Band
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature / Jolly Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch / Thunder Punch
- Outrage

CB Dragonite has proven to be an extremely effective cleaner, trading away the ability to boost it's speed to attempt a sweep, to starting off with heavily bolstered moves due to Choice Band. Extreme Speed boosted by Choice Band is extremely powerful, as well as being faster than most priority in the game not called First Impression. Banded Outrage also hits any non fairy extremely hard, making it both an incredibly good breaker and a great revenge killer.

Overall, while Dragonite did lose a lot of useful tools with the transition from gen 8 to gen 9, it proves to be one of the main abusers of Terastallization, with multiple strong sets, capitalizing on it's incredible ability and bulk, taking advantage of Dragon Dance to bolster it's already great attack stat, as well as having one of the best priority attacks in the game in Extreme Speed, potentially even boosted with Terastallization.

Any other sets that you like to run on Dragonite? Feel free to provide commentary below!

Why are you running Lonely on the second set? There aren't any Special moves on that set.

One great thing about Dragonite is that its movepool is so vast that it doesn't really miss any valuable coverage by running Flying Tera STAB. And Flying STAB coming from +1 134 Atrack hurts a lot thanks to its good neutral coverage.

I've been liking BandNite over standard DD in a number of teams where I have good hazard control.
Some of the most threatening things like Chien-Pao, Bundle, even Valiant and Moon just go down to ES after a single layer of Spikes damage. While other priority users like Breloom and Scizor does the same job, Nite does it without exerting switch pressure because Tera Normal ES is typically about 60% without Band. As a result, some players just stay in, expect to survive the ES and take out Nite in return, only to get sniped from ~88%, paving the way for the rest of your team to make progress.

A defensive variant like what it to use to run last gen is still viable. Losing Heal Bell kinda sucks, but Nite still has other types of utility like TWave, Encore and Light Screen. Running TBolt in the last slot is also a decent option as it makes a pretty solid answer to Taunt BU Palafin if your team needs to cover for it, although the defensive typing outside of the Palafin matchup is quite a bit worse than it was last Gen as Ice and Fairy moves are flying around all the time (can be fixed with Tera Steel/Fairy after you have dealt with Palafin though)

The combination of Screens, Slow Shed Tail from Orthworme, and Multiscale which halves the damage taken by the substitute means that Dragonite almost always use Dragon Dance at least two times, if not three.

The original dragon is one of the best Shed Tail abusers thanks to the combination of it's unique ability in Multiscale, strong priority in Extreme Speed and a wide movepool. It's also a great Tera user, although in most cases Dragonite does not need to use Tera in order to sweep. It's only limitation is that you have to choose between having 3 attacks or 2 attacks + Roost. I've tested both variants and the 3 attacks version has given me better results (to be expected with the current offensive meta).

My set:

DRAGON LORD (Dragonite) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Outrage

DD and Extreme Speed are mandatory for obvious reasons, earthquake gives the best coverage hitting steels that would otherwise wall this set and finally, Outrage, which is probably controversial, but let me explain: with Flutter Mane gone, there are almost no viable Fairy-types but Grimmsnarl, the rare Azumarill which is outclassed by Palafin and the even rarerTinkaton which I consider not really viable in OU. There are very few Steel-types too, the most common one being Gholdengo, which you can hit with Earquake and it can't switch-in Outrage because you 2HKO it after a DD anyway. I also run Outrage over other coverage (like Fire Punch) because Outrage with STAB + DD boost can OHKO or 2OHKO most things on the game and it 2HKOs bulky neutral Pokemon like Ting-Lu, Slowbro and Amoongus while you're protected by the substitute/screens/multiscale.

The only Pokemon which able to wall this set are Corviknight, Orthworm and Dondozo and for the former two you still have the substitute you can keep using DD because they can't really deal damage to Dragonite (being their only attack Brave Bird/Body Press). Unaware Dondozo completely walls you, particularly the Curse set. If it doesn't have curse, you can keep using Outrage trying to hit a crit.

I do not usually need to use Tera with Dragonite, anyway Normal is my preferred teratype for two reasons: you can use it to avoid the substitute being broken by Ice-type attacks, it helps against Infiltrator Dragapult (although after one DD you outspeed it and OHKO it with Outrage), it gives you STAB with Extreme Speed and when the substitute and Multiscale are gone it helps to survive what would be a supereffective hit. Steel is also good as a Teratype due to it's resistances, but I prefer Normal because it gives you STAB with Extreme Speed and helps against Dragapult.

I find that corv, dondozo, and air balloon gholdengo are all big enough threats to warrant fire punch over outrage. there's not a ton of dragons in the tier who are tanking +2 EQ and +2 ES(especially with normal tera), or at least not tanking them enough to KO back. I just don't feel that the damage provided by outrage outweighs the utility provided by fire punch.

edit: im a dumbass, thunder punch is better. matchup vs balloon gholdengo is worse but dondozo and roaring moon matchups are so much better

I hate to be that guy but I was under the impression all out attacker meant 4 attacking moves? maybe defensive dd and offensive dd, respectively, would be better names?

Iron valiant says hi

Also, did you not consider dual wingbeat or ice punch which has just as good, if not better coverage than outrage?

This has been fun for me. Band Tera Normal is an incredible cleaner with shitload of hazard options + Gholdengo to deter them. Plus Dragonite becomes your Ghost Immunity never stops being funny.

Iron Valiant is no problem for dragonite because it cannot switch-into Outrage. If it does, Outrage will fail and you will stop being locked in, so you can OHKO Iron Valiant with Extreme Speed once boosted or with the Tera.

Someone already said that Dragonite does not learn Dual Wingbeat anymore. About Ice Punch, Ice Spinner is a stronger Ice-type coverage. But Thunder Punch provides Electric-type coverage for Corviknight and Dondozo, which is more useful. I still think that Outrage provides a stronger STAB attack, but I guess that depends on if your team struggles against these 'mons.

Been using it since the end of week 1 and really liking it.
Tera Normal kill range is something that people kinda expect by now, but what they tend to not expect is how Band extends it even further.
In fact, I've been liking it so much that I have been trying out Band Tera Normal Arcanine and Lucario as well as meme options, who both have the advantage of being able to break through Steel types more easily, but Nite still feels better because of overall better stats.

Every time I try to use Roaring Moon, I end up feeling disappointed and just wish he was Dragonite instead.

Been seeing great success with this as my Sweeper. I know Earthquake is generally preferred but I also use it in Doubles and would prefer not to kill myself.

Dragonite @ Choice Band/Expert Belt
Ability: Inner Focus
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Waterfall
- Ice Spinner
- Iron Head

I'm playing with the idea of Expert Belt as an alternative to Choice Band (I just hate being locked in) but Extreme Speed cleans well, Waterfall handles a number of common issues and Ice Spinner is an amazing counter to other Dragonites. Outrage is there I guess but Ice Spinner is also effective against more than just Dragons. Iron Head is there because... well from a personal perspective my team needed Steel or Electric, and Steel won. Wasn't sure what else to put in really. The other 3 tend to cover most things and Band means it generally becomes redundant.

why are you running inner focus over multiscale? Also, considering it’s main attacking move is extreme speed, expert belt is kinda pointless. Atp the only 2 sets that I’ve seen be used successfully are DD and Choice Band. Also, what is Waterfall/Iron Head hitting that Stomping Tantrum (if you don’t wanna use earthquake)/ fire (or thunder) punch isn’t?

I find Inner Focus works much better in doubles than Multiscale asit's more vulnerable to just taking the 1-2 hit. Admittedly I hadn't realised about Expert Belt, i'm just not a fan of choice locking. The moveset has also been adapted and is now Dance, Extreme Speed, Fire Punch & Ice Spinner.

I am going to test this heat!

Inner Focus might be more relevant as an "Other Options" listing for the Band Set in a Metagame with more Intimidate users to avoid slowing that set down I guess, but the current Singles OU doesn't have enough that would ever try to take on Dragonite. At that point trying to handle Hazards and abuse Multiscale is of more value, compared to if Lando-T, Gyarados, etc. had presence to weaken Phys on the switch-in and thus a more common scenario than CB D-Nite entering the field full health and without Rocks.

Dragonite feels like he fits a pattern I see with several high performing attackers right now: Who needs combo when you have Big Number? Examples include Chi-Yu, Iron Valiant, Tera Roaring Moon, and Annihilape.

I have a question for everyone running the Extreme Speed Dragonite.

Is the speed EV necessary considering it relies so heavily on the priority move anyways? Is it not better to invest the EV into HP or something that helps it take a few more hits?

Dragonite (M) @ Choice Band
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 6 SpD
Ability: Multiscale
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

would not be viable?
