Monotype Cup Winner

This may seem a little sudden but the council has voted to ban Dracovish immediately. The response from the survey towards Dracovish and recent meta trends have made us look at it and 7 of the 9 votes required to reach a quickban were reached. While it is maybe not as common as other Pokemon that are generally quickbanned, it is potentially one of the most uncompetitive Pokemon Monotype has ever seen. Choice Band variants or Scarf variants in rain have virtually no switch-ins barring immunities, which is very difficult to do when every type does not have the luxury of carrying a viable water immunity. Being able to draw a matchup facing a single water resist and seeing it be overwhelmed by mindless clicking of Fishious Rend is not competitive in the slightest. The support on both types is well above average too. Dragon has access to several other potent threats, many of which are capable of breaking past the few matchups Dracovish struggles against. This along with healing wish support and pivoting from Dragapult and Dragalge which can get Dracovish in safely makes for some very uncompetitive games. Water meanwhile, has several pivots in structures that don’t use rain such as Flip Turn Swampert or Volt Switch Rotom-W, allowing Dracovish to again come in for free and click Fishious Rend with very little drawback. On rain, barring immunities, there is no switch-in to Choice Band variants, and very few to Scarf, many of which are all found on a couple of types.

While it is not ‘extremely restrictive’ in the builder, when you do face it underprepared, you cannot really do anything except watch your Pokemon fall to Fishious Rend. 90/100/80 bulk allows for it to eat a surprising amount of hits. In addition to this, not being weak to Stealth Rock makes it difficult to chip down. It requires no prediction against a large majority of types and teams in the meta, and that is why the majority of the council has voted to ban.

*The two who voted not to quickban agreed they would ban it in a suspect test. Their reasoning was it was late in the meta to be quickbanning a Pokemon. We understand if others feel this way and issues about this can be brought to any council members or raised in the metagame discussion thread. However, the majority believe that we were mistaken in not visiting Dracovish earlier and are essentially correcting a mistake which is still currently present in the tier. With the survey results to show how the community feels (52% + voted a 5 or higher on a scale of 7 with 7 being very broken) and several comments about Dracovish being a Pokemon players found uncompetitive and restrictive, we believe we are making the right decision for the community and the tier.
