Gen 4 DPP Monotype

Banner by Moosical

DPP (Gen 4) Monotype was in discussion multiple times among veteran Monotype players. Credit goes to Chras for pushing the metagame. This format is meant to give players a taste of a meta that wasn't explored when it was the current metagame.

Notably Different Mechanics:
  • Rotom is Ghost/Electric type regardless of form
  • Sleep lasts 2-5 turns, the counter does not reset upon switching out
  • Magic Coat does not reflect entry hazards, Taunt, or Torment
  • Extreme Speed has a priority of +1
  • Toxic is 85% accurate
  • Taunt lasts 2-4 turns
  • Pokémon holding Life Orb will not take recoil damage hitting a substitute
  • Encore lasts from 3-7 turns
  • Explosion halves the target's defense (250*2=500 BP)
  • The first Pokemon slot is your lead; no Team Preview
Banlist (same as Gen 4 OU's)

DPP Balanced Ghost

While Ghost don't have many options to build it still has good Pokémon and good matchups against top tier types like Psychic, Steel and Fighting. Froslass is the only usable Ghost-type with hazards and has a good matchup against most leads, as it good Speed allows it to set Spikes and cripple opposing Pokémon with Taunt, Destiny Bond, and Icy Wind. Rotom-Heat is a good defensive Pokémon with access to Overheat, it helps against common Steel-types like Jirachi, Scizor, Skarmory, and Metagross, Shadow Ball hits Psychic-types while it can continue healthy using Pain Split and cripple opponents with Thunder Wave. Spiritibom is a good specially defensive Pokémon that helps with Ghost-, Dark-, and Psychic-types due to it's typing, with a RestTalk set it can check most special attackers with ease. Dusknoir is the best Ghost physical attacker since Bannete's bad movepool, BoltBeam and Earthquake are good coverage moves, Shadow Sneak is the STAB and has priority. Mismagius has access to Nasty Plot, making it a good wallbreaker, it can use Substitute on passive Pokémon and setup, Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt hit all the metagame. Gengar is the speed control of the team, with its good movepool, Speed and Special Attack it can pressure opposing teams, and clean on the late-game.

:rotom-heat: UR -> A Rotom-Heat helps a lot Ghost teams with it's access to Overheat and good defensive stats, it can reliably check most Steel-types that otherwise would be threatening to Ghost, and can cripple opposing Pokémon with Thunder Wave, that has 100% accuracy on fourth generation. Since Rotom-Wash is ranked as A i think that Rotom-Heat should be ranked as A, it can help Ghost more than Rotom-Wash because Hydro Pump doesn't help as much as Overheat and can do everything that Rotom-Wash can.

Notably Different Mechanics:
  • Rotom is Ghost/Electric type regardless of form
  • Sleep lasts 2-5 turns, the counter does not reset upon switching out
Sleep can last one turn in all generations at mininum (in my experience I see that).

Bulbapedia is wrong in this case.

Thoughts on this metagame:

The sand veil ban afects dragon (can't use gabite as a SR user), dark and grass (cacturne). Maybe is worth using a complex ban (Sandstream + sand veil) in order to use this mons.
Maybe is worth doing the same with snow cloack + snow warning but this change nerf ice teams (froslass + abomasnow are good choices in monoice).
This metagame is very match up dependant and ofense/ bulky ofense is probably the best playstyle in the majority of types.

I share teams with the rest of types that don't have a sample (I'm not enough expert in the tier so watch out if you use):
