Grassy Seed Kyurem-B

Kyurem-Black @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 248 HP / 92 SpA / 168 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Earth Power/Roost
- Protect

General idea
Despite a poor defensive typing, Kyurem-B has a good numerical physical bulk to work with.
Ice Beam + Fusion Bolt is the dual STAB combination chosen for its coverage.

The set is SpA-inclined to circumvent Intimidate users.

Teravolt is just perfect with two (and arguably three) coverage moves because it allows to hit through Water Absorb, Lightning Rod, Levitate and similar abilities.

92 SpA+ EVs are enough to reach 328 SpA points, whereas 168 Spe- EVs allows Kyurem-B to reach 241 Spe points.
The remaining EVs are put into hp to have some generic bulk to work with.

With Grassy Seed, Kyurem-B can stomach better some neutral hits:
  • 204+ Atk Choice Band Zygarde Thousand Arrows vs. +1 248 HP / 0 Def Kyurem-Black: 129-153 (28.4 - 33.7%) -- 0.3% chance to 3HKO
  • 68 Atk Incineroar Flare Blitz vs. +1 248 HP / 0 Def Kyurem-Black: 103-123 (22.7 - 27.1%) -- 45.5% chance to 4HKO
  • 124+ Atk Rillaboom Superpower vs. +1 248 HP / 0 Def Kyurem-Black: 170-202 (37.5 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Tips
If you run Earth Power, then a Heal Pulse user is needed to keep Kyurem healthy. Keep in mind that this leaves you prone to redirectors, though.
Otherwise, you need some teammates to cover the many weaknesses Kyurem-B has.

Mod note: because DD Kyurem-B is the most Kyurem-B and is also being actively written up in C&C, this set will not be on the voting slate.

Dragon Dance Kyurem-B

name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Icicle Spear
move 2: Fusion Bolt
move 3: Dragon Dance
move 4: Protect
item: Leftovers / Chople Berry
ability: Teravolt
nature: Adamant
evs: 120 HP / 136 Atk / 252 Spe

Another staple set, arguably #2 behind AV. The spread is standard and copy and paste from C&C. The moves and items are commonplace as default. There are multiple variations for EVs, but I like this spread, which was talkingtree 's suggestion on the C&C page.

Jolly Nature

- Icicle Spear

Dragon dance is the second best kyurem set imo. This is probs not the go to dd set for most but I like bulky bois. Its pretty easy to use. Press dd, then kill stuff with that monster attack, boltbeam coverage and nice ice move. Kyurem can be quite difficult for a lot of offensive teams to deal with once at +1 speed and with proper speed control. Physical moves at +1 help delete stuff like av money and fini. Misty seed bc you are going to run fini anyway and + 1 spd gives you more general bulk and time to kill stuff. Running 108 hp 148 def to survive scarf ursh (Probs just an introspective fear) and a better than good chance to survive 2 hits of sacred sword kart.

Bringing back a classic: Choice Band Kyurem-Black!

Kyurem-Black @ Choice Band
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Icicle Spear
- Fusion Bolt
- Scale Shot

This is a set I’ve tinkered around with and in some games has been pretty devastating. Historically CB Kyu-b fell off the map due to the rise of Tapu Fini, but fini currently is only being used on ~15% of teams, and you’re always running this alongside another terrain setter anyway. If you are playing against Fini, just don’t lock into a dragon move and you can still just destroy stuff.

The idea is pretty simple, Kyu-b’s great bulk allows it to switch in on a lot, and from there you just launch powerful moves that very few Pokémon want to switch in on. Pair this alongside a reliable TW setter and watch it do 300% of its health in damage. If you don’t have tailwind active, scale shot can absolutely snowball to win you games. Just make sure a team with this has good answers to steel types, and it’ll blow holes through the opponent.

Some calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Teravolt Kyurem-Black Fusion Bolt vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Tapu Fini: 324-382 (94.4 - 111.3%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Teravolt Kyurem-Black Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: 394-465 (115.5 - 136.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

hey I’m going to step in and call this submission invalid - not only is this set currently being written in C&C, but it is already the most common Kyurem-B set and arguably the current best Kyurem-B set. Its exclusion from the strategy dex is more because we never got around to putting it there. The other people posting DD sets are all doing something different than standard DD, so they’ll be left up

Feel free to submit another set and consider this an unofficial win by default

Claiming my unoffical win, I present the exact same AV set from the Banned sets a physical AV variant:

Kyurem-Black @ Assault Vest
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Atk / 20 Def / 88 SpD / 40 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Fusion Bolt
- Breaking Swipe
- Icy Wind

Due to Kyurem-B's higher Attack stat, 3-hit Icicle Spear deals more damage to targets with the same Def and SpD compared to Ice Beam, even with +252 Atk/SpA, and likewise for Fusion Bolt compared to Freeze Dry. With the lack of Intimidate in the metagame, this results in a Kyurem-B that both generally hits harder and can have a more optimal EV spread by not splitting between Atk and SpA. There is no Earth Power, but many top Pokemon have Fighting- or Ground-type coverage to hit Steel-types anyways, so we assume its allies will do that job. Plus a -0 SpA set can't OHKO Heatran with Earth Power anyways. Instead, we have Breaking Swipe, a spread move that both deals respectable damage off that huge Atk set and debuffs the opponent, protecting the side that both AV doesn't cover and is generally target by opponents. We still use Icy Wind since spread speed drop is good.

The EV spread lets you outrun -1 Tornadus/Thundurus (but more importantly -1 Kartana and, to a lesser extent, Latias). 248 HP / 20 Def lets you survive Scarf Jolly Urshifu CC, or a -1 CB Jolly Urshifu CC if hit on the switch-in with Breaking Swipe, and 88 SpD enables you to survive +1 Nihilego Meteor Beam and have a 6.3% chance to survive Modest Specs Dragapult (the more common Timid variant needs a crit). Then I dump 4 in HP for more overall bulk and rest in Attack.

The tl;dr summary of this spread is to be more efficient than special AV if your teammates can cover the Earth power coverage.

We have a tie with Memoric and Actuarily, so I'm choosing Acturally's Choice Band Set. Congratulations on winning! Anyways here's our next Pokemon.

Cycle 8: Diancie
:sm/diancie:
Diancie is one of the best TR pokemon in the metagame thanks to its low speed and its snowballing potential with Diamond Storm + Body Press. Your job is to figure out a different set! (You can still use TR, just not that spesific set)

Kart Bait

Diancie @ Rindo Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Atk / 104 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 1 Spe
- Diamond Storm
- Mystical Fire
- Protect
- Trick Room

Kart is on the other team. It tries to kill your diancie. You kill it.
Also mystical fire drops are kinda cool when you are buffing up defense, just have to deal with zygie and ursh through positioning of your other mon but the ability to drop kart is worth the loss of utility imo.

Here’s the real Diancie set, Hard Stone.

Diancie @ Hard Stone
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Diamond Storm
- Body Press
- Trick Room
- Protect

Hard Stone makes the Diamond Storms actually hit hard, unlike a WP set that relies on your opponent hitting Diancie with a weak super effective move to get the power you need. Don’t worry about any of that EV’ing to live a steam eruption nonsense, just don’t get hit by one. Diancie’s job is to set TR and do as much damage as possible in the following 4 turns, and this set accomplishes that better than any other.

TailGlowVM

Now 100% more demonic
Trick Room + Meteor Beam
:ss/diancie:
Diancie @ Power Herb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 140 SpA / 116 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Meteor Beam
- Moonblast
- Protect

This set is primarily designed to work as a lure: it hits physically bulky Pokemon a lot harder, like Kartana, Zygarde, and Urshifu. It lacks the snowballing capabilities of the standard set, and the slightly awkward coverage makes it prediction reliant, but if using it alongside stuff that likes them lured it could be worthwile.
