Croagunk finds a niche in LC as a specially-attacking Fighting-type with useful resistances to Grookey and opposing Fighting-types like Mienfoo and Timburr. However, its middling bulk and lack of recovery make Croagunk susceptible to getting chipped and render it unable to check these Pokemon multiple times, especially if it gets hit by Knock Off. Croagunk is also vulnerable to trappers such as Diglett and Trapinch. Dry Skin allows Croagunk to switch in safely on threats such as Mareanie and non-Psychic Staryu and use them as setup fodder with Nasty Plot. Vacuum Wave gives it a way to finish off weakened foes while also allowing it to avoid risking the powerful but inaccurate Focus Blast. The best partners for Croagunk include Pawniard and Ferroseed, which help deal with Psychic-types, and countertrappers such as Air Balloon Diglett and Trace Porygon.

Croagunk possesses a completely unique typing in LC that grants it good matchups against the tier's strong Fighting-type Pokemon,
mainly Mienfoo, thanks to its resistance to their STAB moves. It is also an excellent counter to Grookey, able to switch in on Grass-type attacks and forcing it out.(Condense these two down. Something like "Croagunk finds a niche in LC as a specially-attacking Fighting-type with useful resistances to Grookey and opposing Fighting-types like Mienfoo and Timburr.") However, these two traits are far from permanent, as its middling bulk and lack of recovery makes it susceptible to getting chipped and renders it unable to check these pokemon multiple times, especially if it gets knocked off. Offensively, it threatens the steels in the tier, especially Pawniard which is quad-weak to Croagunk's fighting STAB. The aforementioned Grookey is also threatened and OHKO'd by it, although it faces stiff competition for these traits, due to the presence of Ponyta and Larvesta , who both also deal with the same threats as Croagunk and more, as well as packing reliable recovery. Its ability, Dry Skin allows it to switch in safely on threats such as Mareanie, Non-Psychic Staryu, and Choice Scarf Frillish.(You should relate the Nasty Plot point here. Mention how Croagunk can take advantage of these foes to set up with Nasty Plot.) However, being quadruple weak to psychic is a big issue, rendering it unable to touch some of the tier's biggest threats such as Abra, Natu, or Galarian Ponyta. Its typing also gives it a weakness to the STAB moves of the tier's two best trappers, Diglett and Trapinch, thus letting them beat it easily.

Nasty Plot is Croagunk's best way of boosting its damage output. Vacuum Wave is a STAB move with priority, which gives it a way to finish off weakened opponents, foes while also allowing it to avoid risking the powerful but inaccurate Focus Blast. Croagunk is best used as a late-game cleaner, when most of its checks have been knocked out or sufficiently chipped,allowing it to set up Nasty Plots and break through teams unhindered.
