Cresselia is a solid wall in RU that can check many common threats, such as Raikou, Zygarde-10%, and Noivern, due to its phenomenal bulk and typing. However, Cresselia is rather passive and vulnerable to status, and its type leaves it weak to both common threats such as Zarude, Obstagoon, and Chandelure and to the utility moves Knock Off and U-turn. Psyshock gives Cresselia a better matchup against Calm Mind Raikou and hits Roserade and Dragalge harder. Moonblast hits Dark- and Dragon-types like Zarude, Obstagoon, and Zygarde-10%. Moonlight keeps Cresselia healthy throughout the battle. Toxic is used to wear down bulky Pokemon like Seismitoad, Milotic, and Incineroar. Thunder Wave, on the other hand, provides Speed control by slowing down fast threats for Cresselia's teammates. 176 Speed EVs allow Cresselia to outspeed Modest Toxtricity. However, Cresselia can run less Speed to better take hits from Pokemon like Mienshao, Metagross, and Zygarde-10%: 144 Speed EVs allow Cresselia to be faster than Adamant Tyrantrum and Jolly Bewear, while 56 Speed EVs let it outsped Adamant Bewear and Modest Sylveon. Colbur Berry is an option for taking a Dark-type move from Mienshao, Zarude, or Obstagoon better. Ice Beam can be run with 56 Special Attack to OHKO Zygarde-10% and hit Noivern.
Cresselia works well on balance and more defensive teams, which appreciate its ability to check common threats and can handle its passive nature. Since Cresselia is vulnerable to status moves, especially Toxic, a cleric like Sylveon or Umbreon is a welcome teammate. A status absorber like Jungle Healing Zarude, Rest Snorlax, or Roserade fix this problem too by switching into status moves for Cresselia. Galarian Weezing is a useful teammate to check strong Dark- and Bug-types such as Zarude, Obstagoon, and Heracross, which are troublesome for Cresselia. In return, Cresselia checks Ground- and Psychic-types like Zygarde-10%, Rhyperior, and Indeedee. A reliable Dark- or Normal-type such as Zarude, Umbreon, Snorlax, or Porygon2 checks Ghost-types like Chandelure and Alolan Marowak. In return, Cresselia checks Fighting-types. A bulky Steel-type such as Registeel or Steelix helps Cresselia to check strong special attackers such as Xurkitree, Toxtricity, and Nasty Plot Togekiss, while Cresselia takes on Ground- and Fighting-types attacks in return. Since bulky setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Suicune, Galarian Slowbro, and Reuniclus take advantage of Cresselia's passive nature, phazers like Haze Milotic and Clear Smog Gastrodon or strong offensive checks to them like Obstagoon and Zarude are important teammates for Cresselia. Slow wallbreakers like Heracross, Toxtricity, and Tyrantrum pair well with Cresselia because Cresselia can support them with Thunder Wave and switch into revenge killers.

Cresselia's incredible bulk and good Speed stat give it a small niche in RU as a Calm Mind sweeper. However, it faces stiff competition from Reuniclus and Galarian Slowbro, which have better matchups against Steel-types, more useful abilities, and immunity to Toxic. Stored Power becomes a powerful STAB move after some Calm Mind boosts and helps Cresselia to win Calm Mind wars against Galarian Slowbro, Suicune, and Raikou. Moonblast covers Dark-types like Zarude, Obstagoon, and Umbreon. Substitute blocks Trick and, more importantly, protects Cresselia from status ailments, allowing it to set up against bulky opposition such as Diancie, Milotic, and Registeel at the cost of reliable recovery. On the other hand, Moonlight allows Cresselia to more easily sustain itself in the long run and better handle threatening Electric-type special attackers such as Toxtricity, Thundurus, and Xurkitree. This also gives Cresselia more setup opportunities, though it becomes vulnerable to status conditions such as poison. 32 Special Attack EVs allow +1 Cresselia to get a safe 2HKO on Zarude. 176 Speed EVs let Cresselia outspeed Modest Toxtricity so Cresselia can use Calm Mind first to better take its Boomburst. 92 HP EVs give Cresselia a 101 HP Substitute, meaning that a single Seismic Toss from Registeel cannot break it. The remaining EVs are placed into Defense to better take on physical attackers.
Spikes support from Roserade, Klefki, or Golispod is helpful to wear down bulky Steel-types like Registeel and Metagross and special walls like Snorlax and Porygon2. Toxic Spikes from Dragalge or Galarian Weezing is also helpful against Suicune and the aforementioned special walls. Galarian Weezing in particular also checks common threats to Cresselia like Obstagoon, Heracross, and Zarude. Strong wallbreakers such as Toxtricity, Zygarde-10%, and Obstagoon, on the other hand, can weaken or even defeat these defensive Pokemon so that they are no longer able to stop Cresselia from a Calm Mind sweep. Knock Off support from Seismitoad and Thundurus is helpful to get rid of Zarude's and Incineroar's Heavy-Duty Boots so they can be worn down by entry hazards. Cobalion and Galarian Weezing check Dark-types and switch into Knock Off for Cresselia. If Cresselia is not running Moonlight, Wish support from the likes of Sylveon or Umbreon is useful to keep Cresselia healthy. These two as well as Togekiss can also support Cresselia with Heal Bell in the case Cresselia gets poisoned. As Cresselia loses the Calm Mind war against Reuniclus, a Dark- or Ghost-type such as Zarude, Obstagoon, or Chandelure is crucial to keep Reuniclus in check.
