My boy HSA and I were having a having a friendly match. I had played this team before so I had a slight upperhand in knowing it was a paralysis spreading team with Grass-Arceus. On my side I knew that I had an unknown Grass-Arceus and a few strange sets that would be able to give me the upperhand against a very annoying team.

There was no real 'best' lead against HSA, but leading with Scarf Terrakion is suicidal when he has a Mewtwo, Forretress carries no momentum and gets me screwed against Kyogre, Gliscor also has trouble with Kyogre, and I wanted to keep my Grass-Arceus and Kyogre in the wings for the time being. The former for the sake of being un-revealed and the latter because I knew I could orchestrate a win condition with it. So, by the process of elimination Kyurem-W is the best lead, able to apply strong offensive presence and outspeed the majority of his team.

Battle between Poppy and HSA started!
Tier: Ubers
Rule: Unrated

Rule: Freeze Clause

Rule: Self-KO Clause

HSA sent out Kyogre!
Poppy sent out Kyurem-W!
Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!
The foe's Kyogre's Drizzle made it rain!

This matchup is in my favour, as HSA knows I can easily predict an Earth Power against his Jirachi, but leaving his Kyogre in on a Specs Draco Meteor isn't a good idea either. I know he will definitely switch and instead of risking a bad prediction I decide to go to Gliscor and get my Toxic Orb activated, and this also ensures against not having to have one of my Pokemon switch into Jirachi's Body Slam.

Turn 1

Poppy called Kyurem-W back!
Poppy sent out Gliscor!

HSA called Kyogre back!
HSA sent out Jirachi!
Rain continues to fall!

Gliscor's Toxic Orb activated!
Gliscor was badly poisoned!

I have the advantage here, I use the obvious Substitute to scout the switch.

Turn 2

HSA called Jirachi back!
HSA sent out Mewtwo!

The foe's Mewtwo is exerting its pressure!

Gliscor used Substitute!
Gliscor made a substitute!
Rain continues to fall!

Gliscor restored HP using its Poison Heal!

Gliscor using Baton Pass allows me to safely scout the move and prevent any Pokemon from taking damage so I don't reveal Leftovers.

Turn 3

The foe's Mewtwo used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! Gliscor's substitute faded!
The foe's Mewtwo is hurt by its life orb!

Gliscor used Baton Pass!

Poppy called Gliscor back!
Poppy sent out Kyogre!
Rain continues to fall!

I go to Kyogre, bluffing Choice Scarf, although keeping in Mewtwo on Kyogre is very risky anyway, regardless of its set. At this point I use Thunder-Wave on the obvious switch to Grass-Arceus.

Turn 4

HSA called Mewtwo back!
HSA sent out Arceus-Ghost (Arceus-Grass)!

Kyogre used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Arceus-Ghost was paralyzed!
Rain continues to fall!

I know his Arceus-Grass is going to Thunder-Wave but I can't risk Gliscor to an Ice Beam or Judgment so Forretress is the safest option, I can continue to gather momentum with Volt Switch or set up Spikes. Plus getting Forretress paralysed isn't a big deal at all.

Turn 5

Poppy called Kyogre back!
Poppy sent out Forretress!

The foe's Arceus-Ghost used Thunder Wave!
Forretress was paralyzed!
Rain continues to fall!

As expected he goes for the Thunder-Wave, no biggie; just 2pac. Anyway, I don't have a Ghost so I figure setting up Spikes is pretty pointless, so I go for the Volt Switch.

Turn 6

HSA called Arceus-Ghost back!
HSA sent out Forretress!

Forretress used Volt Switch!
The foe's Forretress lost 19% of its health!

Poppy called Forretress back!
Poppy sent out Gliscor!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Forretress restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Gliscor restored HP using its Poison Heal!

In this situation I can Taunt to prevent hazards going down but Substitute puts me in a better position if he decides to call that and switch to Kyurem-W, which I fear greatly. This also puts me in a better offensive position even if his Forretress uses the opportunity to set up hazards.

Turn 7

Gliscor used Substitute!
Gliscor made a substitute!

The foe's Forretress used Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones float in the air around Poppy's team!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Forretress restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Gliscor restored HP using its Poison Heal!

Whatever, Stealth Rock isn't going to kill me.

Turn 8

HSA called Forretress back!
HSA sent out Arceus-Ghost (Arceus-Grass)!

Gliscor used Baton Pass!

Poppy called Gliscor back!
Poppy sent out Kyurem-W!
Pointed stones dug into Kyurem-W!

Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!
Rain continues to fall!

Here's where it gets interesting, I obviously have the advantage, being both behind a Substitute and being able to OHKO Arceus-Grass. However, HSA is a smart guy and I know he knows this too; we exchange friendly banter and he even drops the 'times for specs ep action' which he also hinted at turn 1 when I had Kyurem-W in vs Kyogre. It's pretty much a 50/50 here so I decide to call his bluff and go for the Earth Power.

Turn 9

HSA called Arceus-Ghost back!
HSA sent out Jirachi!

Kyurem-W used Earth Power!
It's super-effective! The foe's Jirachi lost 72% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Jirachi restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Yeah, eat that motherfucker. That actually did less than I thought it would (I wanted an OHKO D:). I still have the advantage here, and I can see his Grass-Arceus switch from a mile-away. Despite being behind a Substitute I will be disadvantage when he goes to Grass-Arceus as it can wall Earth Power for days on end and I'd have to switch out eventually, so I go to Forretress to spin away Stealth Rock.

Turn 10

Poppy called Kyurem-W back!
Poppy sent out Forretress!
Pointed stones dug into Forretress!

HSA called Jirachi back!
HSA sent out Arceus-Ghost (Arceus-Grass)!
Rain continues to fall!

Forretress restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Yep, just as planned. I use this opportunity to Rapid Spin, no bullshit full paralysis please.

Turn 11

HSA called Arceus-Ghost back!
HSA sent out Mewtwo!

The foe's Mewtwo is exerting its pressure!

Forretress used Rapid Spin!
The foe's Mewtwo lost 3% of its health!
Forretress blew away Stealth Rock!
Rain continues to fall!

Forretress restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Who uses Fire Blast Mewtwo in the rain? Volt Switch is the safest move to get something in and react accordingly to his set, but at the moment I just presume it's CM Life Orb. I could go to Terrakion but Choice Scarf Terrakion can't OHKO CM Mewtwo with X-Scissor so it would have been a very risky move.

Turn 12

The foe's Mewtwo used Fire Blast!
Forretress held on thanks to Sturdy!
It's super-effective! Forretress lost 99% of its health!
The foe's Mewtwo is hurt by its life orb!

Forretress is paralyzed! It can't move!
Rain continues to fall!

Forretress restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

HSA: “Why do I have Fire Blast on this thing?”

-________________-, Forretress was fairly expendable anyway, and I got the Rapid Spin off so it's not that big of a deal. At this point staying in is my only real option, as he will undoubtedly use another move to finish me off to scout any switches I may be feeling. I use Volt Switch again.

Turn 13

The foe's Mewtwo used Psystrike!
It's not very effective... Forretress lost 6% of its health!

Forretress fainted!
The foe's Mewtwo is hurt by its life orb!
Rain continues to fall!

Poppy sent out Terrakion!

His Mewtwo is in X-Scissor OHKO range but I know there's no way he's going to sacrifice it at this stage of the game, I go to Gliscor on the obvious Forretress switch.

Turn 14

Poppy called Terrakion back!
Poppy sent out Gliscor!

HSA called Mewtwo back!
HSA sent out Forretress!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Forretress restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Gliscor restored HP using its Poison Heal!

At this point I haven't revealed Taunt and I don't have Forretress anymore, so I feel it's pretty safe to Taunt this shitty shell. Not to mention it prevents hazards from going down regardless of his decision.

Turn 15

HSA called Forretress back!
HSA sent out Kyurem-W!

The foe's Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!

Gliscor used Taunt!
The foe's Kyurem-W fell for the taunt!
Rain continues to fall!

Gliscor restored a little HP using its Poison Heal!

Oh dear.

Turn 16

Poppy called Gliscor back!
Poppy sent out Arceus (Arceus-Grass)!

The foe's Kyurem-W used Draco Meteor!
Arceus lost 75% of its health!
The foe's Kyurem-W's Special Attack sharply fell!
Rain continues to fall!

This where not having revealed Grass-Arceus comes in handy, from his perspective Kyogre was my safest switch.

HSA: “well i was considering focus blasting.”

I weigh up my options, and realize that if I want to maintain momentum I can't take the time to recover, and Forretress is probably going to come in now. I need to get some damage on his team so I go to the bag kahuna himself, my own Choice Specs Kyurem-W.

Turn 17

Poppy called Arceus back!
Poppy sent out Kyurem-W!

Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!

HSA called Kyurem-W back!
HSA sent out Forretress!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Forretress restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Draco Meteor deals heavy damage to pretty much everything and will irrevocably maim Forretress anyway, Jirach is also in OHKO range (~35%) so my decision is clear.

Turn 18

Kyurem-W used Draco Meteor!
The attack of Kyurem-W missed!

The foe's Forretress used Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones float in the air around Poppy's team!
Rain continues to fall!

gaygaygay. His Forretress can take one Draco Meteor and he knows it, so he expects me to switch out to Gliscor. I just want to his things really, so I just Draco Meteor again.

Turn 19

HSA called Forretress back!
HSA sent out Mewtwo!

The foe's Mewtwo is exerting its pressure!

Kyurem-W used Draco Meteor!
The foe's Mewtwo lost 66% of its health!

The foe's Mewtwo fainted!
Kyurem-W's Special Attack sharply fell!
Rain continues to fall!

HSA sent out Jirachi!

Excellent, now Scarf Terrakion has a good chance at sweeping late-game. However, Jirachi now presents the problem of getting healthy, I go to Gliscor to quell that, as I'm guessing he probably doesn't have Protect, having not used it yet.

Turn 20

Poppy called Kyurem-W back!
Poppy sent out Gliscor!
Pointed stones dug into Gliscor!

The foe's Jirachi used Wish!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Jirachi restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Gliscor restored HP using its Poison Heal!

No point using Earthquake here, he's probably going to go to Kyurem-W. Here's where I can put my win-condition into action.

Turn 21

HSA called Jirachi back!
HSA sent out Kyurem-W!

The foe's Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!

Gliscor used Substitute!
Gliscor made a substitute!
Rain continues to fall!

Jirachi's wish came true!
Gliscor restored HP using its Poison Heal!

Yep, okay. I'm actually in a good position. I'm going to Substitute again to scout the improbable Draco Meteor, it only costs me 12.5% HP so it's not a big deal at all.

Turn 22

The foe's Kyurem-W used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! Gliscor's substitute faded!

Gliscor used Substitute!
Gliscor made a substitute!
Rain continues to fall!

Gliscor restored HP using its Poison Heal!

Perfect.

Turn 23

The foe's Kyurem-W used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! Gliscor's substitute faded!

Gliscor used Baton Pass!

Poppy called Gliscor back!
Poppy sent out Kyogre!
Pointed stones dug into Kyogre!
Rain continues to fall!

Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

HSA: “you know im ok with that”
Poppy: “are you”

Turn 24

The foe's Kyurem-W used Ice Beam!
It's not very effective... Kyogre lost 29% of its health!

Kyogre used Calm Mind!
Kyogre's Special Attack rose!
Kyogre's Special Defense rose!
Rain continues to fall!

Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

ehehehehehehehe

Turn 25

HSA called Kyurem-W back!
HSA sent out Arceus-Ghost (Arceus-Grass)!

Kyogre used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! A critical hit! The foe's Arceus-Ghost lost 100% of its health!

The foe's Arceus-Ghost fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
HSA sent out Kyogre!

Well I would have 2HKOed and outsped due to paralysis anyway, so it's not a huge deal, it just eliminates some guess work I have to do on my part. Definitely a welcome stroke of luck though. I know I can beat his Kyogre since I have significant speed investment and one Calm Mind already under my belt.

Turn 26

Kyogre used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Kyogre was paralyzed!

The foe's Kyogre used Thunder Wave!
Kyogre was paralyzed!
Rain continues to fall!

Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

First step paralyse him. He does the same, predictably.

Turn 27

Kyogre used Calm Mind!
Kyogre's Special Attack rose!
Kyogre's Special Defense rose!

The foe's Kyogre is paralyzed! It can't move!
Rain continues to fall!

Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

I calculate that I can 2HKO at +2 with Surf so I boost up first, a nice full paralysis here.

Turn 28

Kyogre is paralyzed! It can't move!

The foe's Kyogre used Thunder!
It's super-effective! Kyogre lost 35% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Hax balances itself out I suppose.

Turn 29

Kyogre used Surf!
It's not very effective... The foe's Kyogre lost 54% of its health!

The foe's Kyogre used Thunder!
It's super-effective! Kyogre lost 32% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
The foe's Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Alright, I got this.

Turn 30

Kyogre is paralyzed! It can't move!

The foe's Kyogre used Thunder!
It's super-effective! Kyogre lost 31% of its health!

Kyogre fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Poppy sent out Arceus (Arceus-Grass)!
Pointed stones dug into Arceus!

Poppy: “NO”
HSA: “YEA”
Poppy: “jesus fuck why”

Not going to risk any shenanigans here, as I've been predicting strongly all game, and at this point he has the upper-hand, and may take it as time to start predicting against me. If I switched anything in on Surf at this point I would have lost.

Turn 31

HSA called Kyogre back!
HSA sent out Jirachi!

Arceus used Judgment!
It's not very effective... The foe's Jirachi lost 15% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Jirachi restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Okay, I'm just going to Recover up and see what he does.

Turn 32

HSA called Jirachi back!
HSA sent out Kyurem-W!

The foe's Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!

Arceus used Recover!
Arceus regained health!
Rain continues to fall!

No surprise, however, I'm willing to let Grass-Arceus go at this point, as his Kyogre is in 2HKO range from Close Combat and paralysed to top it off. I WoW the Kyurem-W, so in a last ditch scenario I can stall it for burn damage with Gliscor. Also sac'ing Grass-Arceus lets me get in Terrakion safely, and I can safely spam Close Combat with his Jirachi weakened and his Mewtwo KO'd.

Turn 33

Arceus used Will-O-Wisp!
The foe's Kyurem-W was burned!

The foe's Kyurem-W used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! Arceus lost 62% of its health!

Arceus fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Kyurem-W is hurt by its burn!
Poppy sent out Terrakion!
Pointed stones dug into Terrakion!

Turn 34

HSA called Kyurem-W back!
HSA sent out Jirachi!

Terrakion used Close Combat!
The foe's Jirachi lost 30% of its health!

The foe's Jirachi fainted!
Terrakion's Defense fell!
Terrakion's Special Defense fell!
Rain continues to fall!

HSA sent out Forretress!

I doubt he's going to set up Spikes and let me get a free Substitute with Gliscor, so I stay in and Close Combat on the predicted Volt Switch.

Turn 35

Terrakion used Close Combat!
The foe's Forretress lost 51% of its health!
Terrakion's Defense fell!
Terrakion's Special Defense fell!

The foe's Forretress used Volt Switch!
Terrakion lost 24% of its health!

HSA called Forretress back!
HSA sent out Kyogre!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

It's still a good move on his part, getting Kyogre in safely; I'm fairly threatened by this 'mon without Grass-Arceus. I go to Kyurem-W, as even if does Thunder Wave me I can survive a hit at 50% and unleash a Draco Meteor.

Turn 36

Poppy called Terrakion back!
Poppy sent out Kyurem-W!
Pointed stones dug into Kyurem-W!

Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!

The foe's Kyogre is paralyzed! It can't move!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Kyogre restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

I guess that makes up for my Kyogre not KOing his earlier. Now, this turn is especially pivotal because I know that if he goes to Forretress on the Draco Meteor (Ice Beaming is infeasible) then Kyogre on my -2 Kyurem-W I would be put in especially hard place. However, he knows I know and so on. But, if I go to Gliscor on his Forretress I win the game, however, using Draco Meteor is my safest move and I don't want to dick around at this late stage in the game, seeing as I still have a chance to win even if he goes to Forretress. I click Draco Meteor.

Turn 37

Kyurem-W used Draco Meteor!
The foe's Kyogre lost 70% of its health!

The foe's Kyogre fainted!
Kyurem-W's Special Attack sharply fell!
Rain continues to fall!

HSA sent out Kyurem-W!

The foe's Kyurem-W has Turboblaze!

Poppy i was contemplating double switch
Poppy lol
HSA so was i
Poppy i know
Poppy :)
HSA i overestimated
Poppy well
HSA or under
Poppy i knew you knew
Poppy so
HSA depending on how you look at it
Poppy fucking great game though haha
Poppy v intense
HSA i knew you knew i knew

It's gg at this point, Choice Scarf Terrakion can clean up with Close Combat. Excellent game HSA, it was really down to the wire and could have gone either way up until the dying throes of the battle.

Turn 38

The foe's Kyurem-W used Ice Beam!
Kyurem-W lost 50% of its health!

Kyurem-W fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Kyurem-W is hurt by its burn!
Poppy sent out Terrakion!
Pointed stones dug into Terrakion!

Turn 39

Terrakion used Close Combat!
It's super-effective! The foe's Kyurem-W lost 75% of its health!

The foe's Kyurem-W fainted!
Terrakion's Defense fell!
Terrakion's Special Defense fell!
Rain continues to fall!

HSA sent out Forretress!

Turn 40

Terrakion used Close Combat!
The foe's Forretress lost 48% of its health!

The foe's Forretress fainted!
Terrakion's Defense fell!
Terrakion's Special Defense fell!

Poppy won the battle!

it is later revealed that his forretress had no EVs, not like it really mattered anyway.

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

it was pretty good but i don't get why he switched to mewtwo on your kyurem-w. why would you predict a gliscor switch when you have a forretress against a kyurem which maims your forretress with dm anyway? (forretress wasn't even that good against your team so saccing it would have been better)

gg nonetheless

This is one of the situations where Gyro Ball Forretress would have turned the match around xD

Good read overall

EDIT: My sigspace 9.9

P good battle, losing mewtwo so early sucked for him. When watching I also thought that you would've been majorly fucked if the forry had gyro ball haha.

Good read, their aren't enough uber warstory and this one was well written. The hax was a little off-putting but the good thing is it was relatively even. Props/Slops thing at the end would've been interesting as well.

Overall 8/10

The battle was good but not very even (Mewtwo loss, minor hax, etc). I liked the format and the commentary better (was well explained). BP Gliscor is mean. 8/10 to me

To explain that turn better if his Forretress has stayed in and used Volt Switch and I had gone to Gliscor it would have put him in a hard position. It may not have been his best movie, considering the risk, but it was by no means one that had no purpose; if his Mewtwo had come in when I switched in Gliscor I would have been put in an equally bad position.

Oh, also I thought it was fairly even, he actually had a slight advantage with my team having no safe switch ins for Mewtwo or Kyurem-W.

Good read, I enjoy Ubers warstories a lot ^_^

However, you might want to find a new sprite for Kyurem-W, as it shows up as a question mark.

Well-written warstory all round: perfect example of 'this is the situation, I predict this will happen, so I'll do this' structure, rather than recounting the log.

Tbh, I really like the camaraderie/sportsmanship of it too. It's 'my boy HSA', not some random, and that set the right tone.

The fact you knew each other's teams and playstyles made it more interesting for me. Games where you have to figure out a new opponent are fun, but trying to outfox a familiar opponent is something else, and I really got that feeling from this.

'I knew you knew I knew' - exactly. 9/10
