[OVERVIEW]

Calm Mind and Triage-boosted Draining Kiss make Comfey a dangerous Terrain sweeper that can revenge kill weakened threats like Sandslash and Archeops while simultaneously remaining healthy. Between its typing and decent bulk, Comfey can be hard to take down and can reliably check Dark- and Fighting-types such as Sneasel and Gallade that pose a threat to Terrain teams. These same defensive traits also allow Comfey to serve as a decent bulky Defogger, trading much of its offensive presence for more self-sufficiency and utility. However, when not boosted or hitting foes super effectively, Comfey tends to be very passive due to its mediocre Special Attack. Comfey also lacks coverage for Steel-types like Doublade and Ferroseed, allowing them to easily cut its sweep short or keep entry hazards up against it. Gigalith being so common hurts defensive Comfey, since Synthesis restores less HP in sand on top of already having low PP. Other Fairy-types like Ribombee and Whimsicott generally outclass Comfey, offering much of the same utility as it while being faster, more versatile, and less exploitable.

name: Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Draining Kiss
move 3: Stored Power
move 4: Aromatherapy / Taunt
item: Grassy Seed
ability: Triage
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 192 SpA / 64 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Stored Power nails Poison-types like Weezing, prevents Charizard and non-Haze Quagsire from walling Comfey, and hits special walls like Audino harder than Draining Kiss with enough boosts. Aromatherapy keeps Comfey and its teammates from being ruined by status, while Taunt completely shuts down slow walls like Wishiwashi and Eldegoss. Giga Drain is a niche option over Stored Power that hits harder under Grassy Terrain, threatens Gigalith, and still destroys Quagsire. Stored Power provides better coverage and tends to be more devastating, though. With 64 Speed EVs, Comfey outspeeds Jolly Sandslash. Thwackey is a required partner, immediately setting Grassy Terrain for Comfey upon switch-in. Thwackey also shares a number of checks with Comfey, mainly Poison- and Steel-types, and can weaken them for it with Knock Off and U-turn. Comfey can't deal meaningful damage to Steel-types such as Doublade and Ferroseed, so Pokemon like Thievul and Hitmonlee are valuable teammates to have. These Pokemon also more immediately threaten foes like Gigalith and appreciate Comfey annoying walls like Audino and Quagsire. Coalossal can support Comfey by both setting and removing entry hazards and taking hits from foes like Charizard and Togedemaru.

[SET]
name: Defog
move 1: Defog
move 2: Dazzling Gleam
move 3: U-turn
move 4: Synthesis / Rest
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Rest has more PP than Synthesis, always fully restores Comfey's HP, and synergizes well with Natural Cure. However, the move virtually forces Comfey to switch out upon use lest it be totally helpless, thus offering foes free turns. 16 Speed EVs let Comfey outrun Modest Magneton. Since Comfey is walled by Steel- and Poison-types like Togedemaru and Garbodor, Pokemon like Charizard and Galarian Articuno are great teammates. Charizard notably gains the ability to drop Defog thanks to Comfey and also appreciates it switching into Knock Off, while Galarian Articuno benefits a lot from the pivoting support that Comfey provides. Pokemon that are especially vulnerable to Dark- and Fighting-types, such as Jellicent, Doublade, and Sneasel, like having Comfey to fall back on against such threats and can help make up for its passivity. Wish support from the likes of Togedemaru and Audino helps Comfey remain healthy without quickly burning through Synthesis's limited PP. These Pokemon also form a good defensive core with Comfey, switching into irksome foes like Ribombee for it. Comfey can potentially run either Aromatherapy or Toxic instead of Defog to act as a cleric or punish switch-ins like Charizard, respectively; however, such a tradeoff requires dedicating another teamslot to entry hazard removal and takes away from this set's main niche.

[OVERVIEW]

Courtesy of its good defensive profile and impressive movepool, Comfey can provide teams plenty of role compression and has a unique, if niche, place in PU. Comfey's typing, bulk, and access to Synthesis allow it to reliably check Dark- and Fighting-types like Sneasel, Scrafty, and Gallade. Comfey can further support teams by removing entry hazards with Defog, pivoting with U-turn, and absorbing harmful status thanks to Natural Cure. However, when it's not hitting foes super effectively, Comfey tends to be very passive due to its mediocre Special Attack. Comfey also lacks the coverage it needs to threaten many of PU's best hazard setters, including Gigalith and Ferroseed, which makes it easy for them to pressure it out and set their hazards again might have to split the sentence, but try to include synthesis being bleh into gigalith too. Other Fairy-types like Ribombee and Whimsicott offer much of the same utility as Comfey while matching up better against most teams due to being more offensively threatening, more versatile, and less exploitable explicitly have their natural speed as a pro.

16 Speed EVs let Comfey outrun Modest Magneton. Since Comfey is walled by Steel- and Poison-types, Pokemon like Charizard and Gallade make for great teammates. Charizard notably gains the ability to drop Defog thanks to Comfey and also appreciates that it can switch into Knock Off, while Gallade benefits a lot from the pivoting support that Comfey provides would maybe use a diff psychic/breaker than gallade since cant break the relevant poisons immediately (might as well mention garbo and weezing explicitly too). These Pokemon also form a good defensive core with Comfey, switching into strong attackers like Galarian Articuno for it. Comfey can potentially run either Aromatherapy or Toxic instead of Defog to act as a cleric or punish switch-ins like Charizard, respectively; however, such a tradeoff requires dedicating another teamslot to entry hazard removal and takes away from Comfey's main niche.

Honestly, this is great, only things I would change is that the first line of the CM analysis fails to mention that only non-Haze Quagsire loses to Stored Power and removing the Galarian Rapidash mention since that mon has seen negative usage recently. Just remember to @ GP Team when you're done.

QC 2/2.
