[SET COMMENTS]
Cofagrigus finds great success as a defensive Pokemon; it checks a wide variety of prominent Pokemon, including Toxicroak, Silvally-Water, and Sawk, and has useful utility options that expand its niche beyond simply switching into and forcing out foes. Shadow Ball is generally opted for as Cofagrigus's STAB attack because of its consistent damage output; alternatively, Hex has good synergy with Will-O-Wisp and helps Cofagrigus more reliably get by Pokemon like Garbodor and Eldegoss. Pain Split improves Cofagrigus's longevity, although Toxic Spikes can be run instead to provide an additional means of spreading status. Colbur Berry increases Cofagrigus's capacity to switch into Fighting-types like Sawk and Toxicroak thanks to decreasing the damage their Dark-type coverage does and lets it check Dark-types like Silvally-Dark and Liepard in a pinch. Leftovers is a solid alternative that boosts Cofagrigus's longevity at the cost of being more vulnerable to Knock Off.

Cofagrigus's defensive traits are appreciated by essentially any non-offense build, and it slots in very nicely alongside other defensive Pokemon. Special walls such as Clefairy, Galarian Stunfisk, and Lanturn are appreciated for their ability to check Pokemon like Indeedee-F and Rotom-F. Clefairy also provides Wish support, while Lanturn can heal Cofagrigus of status ailments with Heal Bell. Additionally, these three can all switch into Toxic for Cofagrigus. In return, Cofagrigus can handle dangerous physical attackers like Toxicroak, Gourgeist-S, and Sawk. Because Cofagrigus lacks reliable recovery, entry hazard removal from the likes of Eldegoss, Rotom-F, and Silvally-Water is necessary. If Cofagrigus is running Toxic Spikes, pair it with Pokemon like Dubwool and Choice Scarf Sawk that enjoy Ghost-types being crippled.

[SET COMMENTS]
This set keeps Cofagrigus's defensive potential while also turning it into a deadly setup sweeper capable of taking advantage of forced switches from Pokemon such as Sawk, Togedemaru, and Piloswine. Trick Room makes up for Cofagrigus's lacking Speed and gives it a great matchup against offensive teams, but Rest vastly improves its matchup against defensive teams. Maximum Defense investment is necessary to OHKO Indeedee-F with +2 Body Press. If using Trick Room, a Relaxed nature with 0 Speed IVs is preferred so Cofagrigus is as slow as possible; otherwise, a Bold nature should be used. Colbur Berry lets Cofagrigus take a Dark-type attack from the likes of Sawk and Toxicroak, although Leftovers provides more overall longevity. If using Rest, Chesto Berry is advised so Cofagrigus isn't forced to be asleep after the initial use of Rest. It should be noted, however, that the latter two item choices leave Cofagrigus more vulnerable to Knock Off users like Sawk and Clefairy.

This set can fit on essentially any playstyle because of it functioning as both a late-game sweeper and check to physical attackers like Sawk and Toxicroak. If Cofagrigus isn't under Trick Room, it's vulnerable to being revenge killed by strong special attackers like Drampa, Choice Specs Indeedee-F, and Abomasnow, so special walls like Clefairy and Galarian Stunfisk are good teammates. Although Cofagrigus can hit opposing Ghost-types with Shadow Ball, it still benefits from Dark-types like Silvally-Dark and Skuntank that can pressure them before it wants to set up to sweep. If you use Cofagrigus on a hyper offense team, Abomasnow's Aurora Veil support is great for making it even harder to KO. In return, Cofagrigus provides these teams with great defensive utility in handling opposing setup sweepers like Klinklang and Swords Dance Silvally-Water.

[SET COMMENTS]
The original depiction of offensive Trick Room Cofagrigus, this set takes advantage of the lack of great Ghost-type checks by boosting Cofagrigus's Shadow Ball's damage output to high levels, 2HKOing foes like Clefairy and Lanturn with slight chip damage. Additionally, Cofagrigus's coverage is just enough to get by; Body Press provides coverage for Dark- and Normal-types like Silvally-Dark and Drampa, while Energy Ball lets Cofagrigus immediately get through foes such as Silvally-Water and Quagsire. Trick Room can be dropped in favor of using both Body Press and Energy Ball, which vastly improves Cofagrigus's matchup against bulky teams at the cost of the offense matchup. Such sets benefit from investing 44 EVs into Speed so Cofagrigus is faster than Clefairy and Quagsire, letting it stallbreak more effectively. Colbur Berry is generally the preferred item so Cofagrigus can check Fighting-types somewhat reliably, although Leftovers is a good alternative that improves Cofagrigus's overall longevity.

Nasty Plot Cofagrigus is a good pick on any non-stall build; it's an incredibly potent late-game sweeper and provides offensively leaning builds with some defensive utility. Because Cofagrigus wants to spam boosted Shadow Ball as much as possible, teammates like Toxicroak and Sawk that can deal with Dark- and Normal-types are good partners. Similarly, special wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Drampa and Indeedee-F are helpful because they heavily pressure special walls, letting Cofagrigus more reliably clean late-game. If using Cofagrigus on an Aurora Veil team, other setup Pokemon like Nasty Plot Skuntank and Swords Dance Silvally-Fire help to overwhelm the opposition with strong boosted attacks in tandem with Cofagrigus.

Trick Room makes up for Cofagrigus's lacking Speed and gives it a great matchup against offensive teams, but Rest vastly improves its matchup against defensive teams.
