move 4: Protect

[SET COMMENTS]
Clefable can function as a great defensive pivot that can check Pokemon like Kyurem, Dragapult, and Hydreigon. With Teleport, Clefable can easily grab momentum by pivoting out of unfavorable matchups against Pokemon like Aegislash and Rotom-H and bring in wallbreakers. Wish synergizes incredibly well with Teleport, giving Clefable the ability to sustain its teammates. Protect allows Clefable to scout Choice-locked Pokemon like Aegislash but, most importantly, makes Wish a reliable recovery move. It's also preferred to Moonlight as sole recovery because of its PP. Magic Guard is used over Unaware because it grants Clefable an immunity to passive damage altogether, making it very hard to wear down. In order to reliably check Pokemon like Kyurem and Dragapult , Clefable has to run a Calm nature with heavy Special Defense investment. Alternatively, a Bold nature can be run with maximum Defense investment to deal with Pokemon like Zeraora, Terrakion, and Conkeldurr.

Clefable fits best on balanced and bulky offensive teams that need a bulky pivot that can check Dragon- and Fighting-types. Wallbreakers that can have a hard time switching into play, such as Kyurem, Terrakion, and Conkeldurr, appreciate Clefable's ability to bring them in safely. Clefable struggles against Pokemon like Aegislash and Rotom-H, so Pokemon that can take advantage of them through Teleport like Hydreigon, Dragapult, and Excadrill make for good teammates.

[SET]
name: Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Moonblast
move 3: Soft-Boiled
move 4: Flamethrower / Thunderbolt
item: Life Orb
ability: Magic Guard
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Because of how hard Clefable is to overwhelm thanks to its incredibly well-rounded bulk, access to reliable recovery in Soft-Boiled, and immunity to passive damage through Magic Guard, it is often a great potential wincon with Calm Mind. Flamethrower allows Clefable to hit Steel-types such as Corviknight, Ferrothorn, Aegislash, and Excadrill, which would otherwise be good checks. Instead of Flamethrower, you can use Thunderbolt to deal with Toxapex while retaining the ability to hit Corviknight super effectively and most Steel-types neutrally, though being walled by Excadrill is often undesirable. A Life Orb is the preferred item to OHKO Dugtrio and Excadrill at +1 while also allowing Clefable to 2HKO Pokemon like Corviknight at +1 and Aegislash.

Maximum Defense investment alongside a Bold nature is preferred so that Clefable can comfortably pivot into Pokemon like Terrakion and Conkeldurr. It also makes it hard for Dugtrio to trap Clefable. You can also elect to run 60 Speed EVs to outspeed Corviknight. You can even choose to run 136 Speed EVs to outspeed Conkeldurr. If comfortably pivoting into the aforementioned Pokemon isn't necessary, you can run 56 Special Defense EVs with a Calm nature to better deal with Hex Dragapult. It is worth noting that, if Clefable is running Flamethrower, you should always use 36 Defense EVs at minimum to avoid being OHKOed by Excadrill.

Clefable fits best onto balance and bulky offensive teams that are looking for a strong potential wincondition that can pivot into Pokemon like Conkeldurr, Terrakion, and Dragapult while also acting as a status absorber. Pokemon such as Excadrill and Togekiss, which can struggle with Corviknight, benefit greatly from Clefable's ability to overwhelm it. Flamethrower Clefable struggles to deal with Toxapex, so Dugtrio's ability to get rid of Toxapex is greatly appreciated. While Clefable is a good pivot into Pokemon such as Conkeldurr and Terrakion, it can't reliably deal with them on its own, so other checks such as Hippowdon, Aegislash, and Toxapex can prove to be useful. Clefable's quite weak to Aegislash and Excadrill, so strong checks to them like Mandibuzz and Corviknight can be beneficial.

[SET COMMENTS]
Clefable can provide teams with a lot of utility; it's a very good check to Pokemon such as Dragapult, Kyurem, Hydreigon, and Conkeldurr, and it can support teams through various other ways with Wish, Stealth Rock, and Knock Off. Wish is a great support move that allows Clefable to keep teammates that lack reliable recovery such as Ferrothorn, Excadrill, and Kommo-o healthy over the course of the match. Stealth Rock can be used instead if Clefable's team can't fit it anywhere else. Knock Off and Thunder Wave are both options that can be used to cripple checks like Toxapex, Corviknight, and Gengar. It's worth noting that Thunder Wave can also prove to be useful against opposing Calm Mind Clefable. Flamethrower can be useful in wearing down Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Aegislash, and Excadrill. Encore can be run to punish Pokemon like Calm Mind Clefable and Reuniclus, as well as some other passive Pokemon such as Toxapex. Lastly, you can consider Aromatherapy or Heal Bell if your team would appreciate cleric support; it's particularly useful alongside Pokemon that are prone to being crippled by a status affliction like Toxapex, Corviknight, Seismitoad, and Hydreigon.

Full Special Defense investment alongside a Calm nature is generally preferred to take on Dragapult, Kyurem, and Hydreigon. Alternatively, a Bold nature in tandem with maximum Defense investment can be run to give the most leeway around Conkeldurr and Terrakion.

Clefable fits best onto balance teams that are looking for the role compression it can bring to the table with moves like Wish, Stealth Rock, and Knock Off while checking various threats such as Conkeldurr and Dragapult. Pokemon that lack reliable recovery, like Excadrill, Kommo-o, and Seismitoad, appreciate Clefable's ability to keep them healthy with Wish. Pokemon that may struggle to break past Toxapex and Corviknight, such as Aegislash and Excadrill, benefit greatly from Clefable's ability to cripple them with Knock Off, which makes the aforementioned Pokemon significantly easier to pressure and ultimately break through.

Clefable is one of, if not, the best Pokemon in the OU metagame. It's easily one of the best pivots into Pokemon like Dragapult, Terrakion, Conkeldurr, and can punish passive Pokemon like Toxapex quite easily. Because of how hard Clefable is to overwhelm thanks to its incredibly well-rounded bulk, access to reliable recovery in Soft-Boiled, and immunity to passive damage through Magic Guard, it is often a great wincon. Flamethrower allows Clefable to hit Steel-types such as Corviknight, Ferrothorn, Aegislash, and Excadrill, which would otherwise be good checks. Maximum Defense investment alongside a Bold nature are preferred so that Clefable can pivot into Pokemon like Terrakion and Conkeldurr comfortably. It also makes it hard for Dugtrio to trap Clefable. You can elect to run 60 Speed EVs in order to outspeed Corviknight. Alternatively, you can even choose to run 136 Speed EVs in order to outspeed Conkeldurr. If pivoting into the aforementioned Pokemon comfortably isn't desired "desired" feels like the wrong word here because I think having a check to these mons is always great. maybe "necessary" would work better, you can run 56 Special Defense EVs with a Calm nature to deal with Hex Dragapult comfortably. It is worth noting that you should always run 36 Defense EVs at minimum to avoid being OHKOed by Excadrill.

Clefable can function as a great pivot that can grab momentum and bring in wallbreakers and pivot out of unfavorable matchups against Pokemon like Rotom-H I'd add Aegislash here just because giving free switch-ins to that demon is awful with Teleport. Wish synergizes incredibly well with Teleport, giving Clefable the ability to sustain its teammates. It's preferred to Moonlight as sole recovery because of its PP. I feel like this line is a tad misleading? like, a big part of running Wish (really this set as a whole) is to support teammates rather than Clefable itself. I'd prefer a line about Protect making Wish reliable self recovery. the Moonlight bit is probably fine to keep but eh, Protect feels more relevant to talk about here Clefable prefers to run maximum Defense investment alongside a Bold nature to pivot into Pokemon like Terrakion and Conkeldurr comfortably, but it can elect to use a specially defensive spread to deal with special attackers like Dragapult and Keldeo better. Magic Guard is favored to Unaware because it grants Clefable an immunity to passive damage altogether, making it very hard to wear down.

Clefable fits best on balanced and bulky offensive teams that need a bulky pivot that can check Fighting-types. Specially defensive Clefable can't check Fighting-types that well, so maybe say "Dragon- or Fighting-types" to cover what both specially and physically defensive Clefable do? Wallbreakers that can have a hard time to switch into play, such as Kyurem, Terrakion, and Conkeldurr. This is not a complete sentence. I'm not sure about Reuniclus here since it's such a rare pick. I think I'd rather see a Ghost-type like Aegislash so that Facade isn't as free; Ghost-types can always revenge kill Conkeldurr too. Clefable's quite susceptible to Aegislash and Excadrill, so strong checks to them like Mandibuzz and Corviknight can be beneficial.
