Life Orb turns the traditionally more utility-oriented Clefable into an excellent wallbreaker for OU. Due to Magic Guard negating all Life Orb recoil, alongside entry hazard damage and status damage, Clefable is able to consistently use powerful moves without downsides, giving it much more longevity than most offensive Pokemon. Flamethrower and Thunderbolt are great coverage alongside Moonblast, landing 2HKOs on Pokemon such as Aegislash, Corviknight, and Toxapex, which can otherwise switch into Clefable rather safely. Fire Blast and Thunder are both stronger alternatives, Thunder has a higher chance of inflicting paralysis than Thunderbolt; however, their shaky accuracy makes then generally undesirable. Moonlight allows Clefable to take lighter hits with more ease, as well as switch into and beat passive Pokemon like Toxapex more frequently. Stealth Rock is an alternative for more offensively oriented teams, making Clefable much more of a glass cannon. Clefable is also a very good user of Dynamax, as all of its offensive moves have helpful secondary effects, while the HP boost makes it able to take heavy hits it otherwise wouldn't survive, like Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan's Icicle Crash and Hydreigon's Max Steelspike, and retaliate with a Life Orb-boosted Max Move.

Pokemon with Volt Switch or U-turn like Rotom-W, Rotom-H, and Corviknight give Clefable free reign to do damage thanks to their ability to force switches and bring it in safely. Fast attackers that appreciate weakened teams like Dragapult and Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan very much enjoy Clefable's wallbreaking abilities, with both of them also being able to bring it in through U-turn against foes they invite in like Mandibuzz and Toxapex. Solid defensive backbones are also needed, as this set is very much on the frail side; Seismitoad, Ferrothorn, and Toxapex all provide Clefable with help through entry hazards and taking hits from foes looking to take advantage of Clefable.

Defensive Clefable is very viable as a check to Pokemon such as Hydreigon, Dragapult, and Kommo-o. Access to Wish and Magic Guard makes it unique among defensive pivots because it doesn't care about entry hazards or status while being able to support its teammates. The given spread allows Clefable to survive a +2 Flash Cannon from Modest Hydreigon while comfortably switching into special threats like Choice Specs Dragapult, Hatterene lacking Calm Mind, and Life Orb Clefable. Thunder Wave allows it to shut down Hydreigon and Dragapult alongside Togekiss and Gyarados; take note, however, that all of those threats frequently use Substitute, so Thunder Wave shouldn't be clicked mindlessly. It also gives Clefable tools to use against more defensive foes that it otherwise wouldn't be able to touch. Stealth Rock lets Clefable perform more tasks for the team, and takes advantage of the fact Clefable is going to be on the field often. Wish + Protect is its best form of recovery while making it able to keep its teammates healthy throughout the match.

Because of its access to Wish, defensive Pokemon without reliable recovery like Rotom-H, Ferrothorn, and Seismitoad, synergize very well with this set. Offensive Pokemon that frequently take hits or lose health like Substitute Hydreigon and Aegislash, appreciate both Clefable's Wish and its ability to Thunder Wave faster threats like Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan. Defensive partners like Toxapex and Corviknight pair great with Clefable due to it taking on offensive threats they don't like dealing with like Hydreigon and Life Orb Clefable.

Despite losing access to Soft-Boiled in the generation shift, a more defensive approach to Clefable is very viable as a check to Dragapult, Hydreigon, and Kommo-o. Adding this little bit will help people to understand its niche immediately. Access to Wish and aided by Magic Guard, it's unique among defensive pivots in not caring about hazard or status, while being able to support the rest of its teammates. The given spread allows Clefable to survive a +2 Flash Cannon from Modest Hydreigon, while comfortably being able to switch into special threats like Choice Specs Dragapult, Hatterene lacking Calm Mind, and Life Orb Clefable. Thunder Wave allows it to shut down the above threats alongside Togekiss and Gyarados and gives Clefable tools to use vs more defensive foes. Thunder Wave doesn't shut down Hatterene, so I don't think it should be worded like this. Stealth Rock lets Clefable perform more tasks for the team, and takes advantage of the fact Clefable is going to be in the field often. Wish + Protect is its best form of recovery, alongside making Clefable able to keep its teammates healthy throughout the match. Alongside what?

Thunder Wave allows it to shut down the aforementioned Hydreigon and Dragapult, alongside Togekiss and Gyarados, and gives Clefable tools to use vs more defensive foes.
probably worth mentioning that the clef user should be wary of a potential substitute blocking the twave and giving the opponent a free turn of set up
