National Dex CephaloPoké Natdex Gimmick Team

goofy gimmick cephalopod team

really stupid squid/octopus based gimmick team that I've had some fun with. Looking for feedback on how to bring it up to snuff, as much as is possible for a gimmick anyway

calamari (Malamar) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Contrary
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 248 HP / 124 SpD / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Psycho Cut
- Rest

Useful enough contrary sweeper though I'm not totally convinced on the set. Rest + Lum berry as a replacement for the more common resttalk set and to defuse the occasional burn. Fighting tera gives superpower an additional little boost and makes u-turn a bit less of a concern. Slow as a lame donkey, though. I'd sacrifice a few livestock for malamar to learn sucker punch. That being said knock off is nice to have and after a few superpower defense buffs it's a bit harder to dispatch him.

cthulhu (Omastar) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Weak Armor
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Surf
- Ancient Power
- Ice Beam

Shell smash setup sweeper with a focus sash to try to take advantage of physical moves, particularly on the switch in. Definitely benefits from hazard removal below since any chip damage renders the whole weak armor strat kinda risky. This guy makes my heart cry out for ice type to resist grass type.

ALIEN SQUID (Nihilego) @ Power Herb
Ability: Beast Boost
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 80 Def / 176 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Meteor Beam
- Sludge Wave
- Power Gem
- Grass Knot

Snowballing special sweeper, EVs make beast boost up speed, so a KO with meteor beam makes it pretty fearsome. Definitely could do with replacing grass knot since it's actually about as useful as a marzipan dildo and I use it about as much as one. Unfortunately gets kinda flaccid (again, like a marzipan dildo) if you have to switch it out after spending the power herb, since even if you start racking up kills all you're getting is faster. Ah well.

8 limbs = octopus (Medicham-Mega) @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt
- Bullet Punch

2 legs + 2 arms + 4 weird ribbon ghost arms = 8 arms = octopus. It counts. Mega Medicham is totally an octopus, shut up.

Wallbreaker, designated mega slot, all around hot cup of herbal tea on a cold rainy day, which is to say that it warms my heart and gives me a reason to live. Bullet punch over anything else since this team is generally a bit slow and needs the speed control. Fake out helps in this regard too.

army navy (Tentacruel) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Haze
- Toxic Spikes

Got all the great S's. Spin, spikes, scald, haze (if you pretend Z is just a backwards s), sludge, 's pretty good. Necessary to get rid of hazards and lay some down, though not horribly great otherwise. Usually the lead. Grass tera gives some theoretical defense against ground moves but, let's be real, this guy isn't sticking around that long. If there was a squid that learned explosion, it'd probably be here instead, but what can you do.

Satoshi Kojima (Grapploct) @ Leftovers
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Atk / 160 Def / 12 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Octolock
- Power-Up Punch
- Sucker Punch

Named for a Japanese wrestler who is genuinely obsessed with bread, Mr. Kojima gained a spot on the team by being basically the most okay remaining octopus, since moody octillery is obviously not an option. I wouldn't call grapploct great, or even good, but sometimes it shines when it can octolock some poor bastard without a pivot move and slowly wear them down. Technician power up punch from behind a substitute as the opponent gradually loses more and more def/spd is consistently really funny when it works, and having sucker punch can usually give a quick surprise kill. Thought about topsy turvy for the sheer meme value but it'd probably make him even less useful.
