Defining moves: Swords Dance, 50% Recovery
Design concept:
The most important things to me in this stage are, 1) designing around the Defining Moves that facilitate and interact with Diamond Storm the most, 2) executing well on a defined role / reason to be used (this is also related to differentiating ourselves from other Ground-types), and 3) being capable of fulfilling traditional bulky Ground-type duties in the builder and in-game (this is where Libra and Colo suffer).
I chose to account for Swords Dance + 50% recovery because I believe they fulfill 1) and 2) the best, opposed to other great but perhaps less interactive options like Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, and Thunder Wave. Swords Dances solidifies our role as an offensive Ground-type and gives us the breaking power that EQ + non-STAB Dstorm really wants. Recovery is a huge point of differentiation over other Ground-types, synergizes great with SD (good at breaking fat but can struggle vs revenge killers), and also leans into Dstorm's whole "we want to stay on the field" thing.
Offenses:
136 Attack with an Adamant nature and +2 boosting is really, really strong. Specifically, it's just enough to 3HKO Argh without Leftovers, and hits some other really cool sweet spots: Earthquake does 99% max to Tapu Lele, and will never OHKO Dragapult after Stealth Rock (87.3% max). There is also a 99.6% chance to 2HKO Landorus-T after Leftovers at +1. 76 Speed outruns Argh. Part of why I chose this lower Speed was to incentivize HP investment; having good bulk is really important to competing with other Ground-types, so this is a cool benefit of a lower Speed tier.
Defenses:
80 HP is mostly arbitrary, but I didn't want to go too high (in the 90-100s) so that HP investment would be a little more encouraged. 99 SpD Avoids the OHKO from Timid Specs Tapu Lele's Psychic after Stealth Rock. 115 Defense is also pretty arbitrary, and although it's roughly in the range I wanted –– ~15-20 higher than our SpD, enough to take Zera hits, etc –– the reason it's 115 specifically was because that's the maximum within the BSR limit. Normally I don't like just pushing stats until you hit the limit, but I think given all the individual limits are quite tame + not accounting for anything other than SD/Recovery, it feels somewhat fine. Most spreads seem to be prioritizing SpD > Def, especially those accounting for SD and/or recovery, and I really value being able to take on Zera / Shifu after boosts / preserving a (small) defined weakness in lowish SpD, so I suppose this spread stands out a bit in that regard.
