CAP 30 So Far

-----

Legal Pokedex submissions must meet the following standards
  • Species Names cannot be over 13 characters.
  • Pokedex Entries must have flawless grammar. Smogon has a Grammar & Prose team that will help identify mistakes.
  • Pokedex Entries cannot be longer than 32 words and cannot be over 156 characters.
  • Pokedex Entries can only contain the following characters:
    • Letters A-Z
    • Numbers 0-9
    • Dash (-)
    • Apostrophe (')
    • Double quote (")
    • Period (.)
    • Exclamation point (!)
    • Comma (,)
    • Colon (:)
    • Semi-colon (;)
    • Space
Work In Progress (WIP) Pokedex Entries can be posted at any time for comments from the community.

No more than three sets of WIP Pokedex Entries can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread. This limit applies to ALL posts made by a single person, even if previous posts are edited or deleted. This limit is intended to curb the tendency for some submitters to spam the thread repeatedly with multiple Pokedex Entries. This detracts from other submissions and makes it difficult for commenters to survey the submission thread.

Do not bump your WIP Pokedex Entries by posting them repeatedly, or making minor wording changes. Bumping will result in the disqualification of all Pokedex Entries by the offender. Editing or deleting bump posts will not prevent disqualification.

Only ONE Final Submission can be made per person.

Pokedex entries Final Submissions must posted exactly in the following format and in the following exact order:
  • The first line of the post must have the words "Final Submission" in bold on its own line. No other text may be included before the bold heading.
  • A blank line
  • "<Pokémon Base Forme Name>, the <Species Name> Pokémon", with the Pokemon name and the Species Name in bold
  • A blank line
  • The Sword Pokedex Entry submission. Start with the letters "Sword" in bold, then a colon (:), and then the Pokedex entry.

  • The Shield Pokedex Entry submission. Start with the letters "Shield" in bold, then a colon (:), and then the Pokedex entry.
  • Two blank lines

Final Submission

Zacian, the Warrior Pokémon

Sword: Known as a legendary hero, this Pokémon absorbs metal particles, transforming them into a weapon it uses to battle.

Shield: This Pokémon has slumbered for many years. Some say it's Zamazenta's elder sister—others say the two Pokémon are rivals.

Zacian-Crowned

Sword
: Now armed with a weapon it used in ancient times, this Pokémon needs only a single strike to fell even Gigantamax Pokémon.

Shield: Able to cut down anything with a single strike, it became known as the Fairy King's Sword, and it inspired awe in friend and foe alike.
Any Final Submission that does not follow the proper format will be disqualified.

Final Submission

Venomicon
, the Grimoire Pokémon

Sword: All attempts to destroy it failed, so it was tarred and locked away under an ancient library.

Shield: After being lost for eons, a forbidden spellbook transformed into Venomicon. It is said to contain the soul of its evil author.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: Incensed by wicked ink, it transforms into something more representative of its vengeful nature. It rampages until the inkwell is empty.

Shield: Drawing from a magical inkwell, it can reinforce paper to cut through even steel. It terrorizes those it believes tried to banish it.

Venomicon
, the Spellbook Pokemon

Sword: Long ago, a writer who was accused of plagiarism sealed his soul in one of his books. The anger of the author's soul transformed the book into this Pokemon.

Shield: It is believed to contain forbidden knowledge. Attempting to read its pages will give you violent headaches.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: The ink from the Vile Vial awakened the vengeful human soul inside of it. It flaps its wings to spread corrosive ink.

Shield: This Pokemon is known to terrorize libraries, destroying all of the books it can find. The only traces it leaves behind are the stains from its toxic ink.

I tried to mimic Spiritomb's dex entries for this, since Venomicon gives me big Spiritomb energy.

Venomicon-Prologue,
the Spellbook Pokémon

Sword: By writing on itself with poisonous ink, it can conjure a wide variety of attacks. Strangely, its ink cannot produce the same effect on normal parchment.

Shield: A powerful enchantment protects it, allowing it to take multiple blows. Researchers believe this is why it has survived for over 500 years.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
An excess of strange ink has given Venomicon magically enhanced vision, but has also broken its spine, forcing it to fold itself up until it can fix it.

Shield: Its mind is linked to the writing on it. It's believed that the ink flooding its pages temporarily warps its memory, causing it to fly into a mindless rage.

Venomicon
, the Dark Pages Pokémon

Sword: Often found wandering decrepit libraries. Ancient texts speak of Venomicon driving countless scholars and adventurers who sought after it mad.

Shield: Reading the text within a Venomicon causes hallucinations of a banished renegade. Those who read it for too long find themselves in a world opposite ours.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: The Vile Vial has blinded Venomicon and split its cover, sending it into a flying frenzy! Its pages have burned into razor-sharp wings.

Shield: Due to its damaged cover, Venomicon can now fly at blinding speeds. Some claim they see glimpses of a warped world in its flight path.

After reading the proposed dex entries by PyProd, I was inspired to add some eldritch/Lovecraftian elements to my own entries. The Necronomicon was, after all, a book made up by H.P. Lovecraft himself. It'd be fitting to use elements of his work with a little bit of a Pokémon twist. Instead of seeing literal eldritch gods, I decided to weave in the closest we have to one in the Pokémon world; Giratina, the "banished renegade".

Venomicon
, the Tome Pokémon

Sword: Its cover acts as a shield for its pages, which hold many spells that it can use against its opponents.

Shield: Nobody knows how dangerous the contents of its pages are or where they originated because it closely guards them from everybody.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Its head has become stuck in an inkpot, driving it into a frenzy. It uses this rage to attack stronger and faster.

Shield: Because of the ink obscuring its vision, it will attack friend and foe using its pages and the ink covering its own body, losing defenses in the process.

Final Submission

Venomicon
, the Tome Pokémon

Sword: If one dared to read the pages on it, they will be blasted in the face with smog. Those afflicted have described the effects as feeling like a terrible curse.

Shield: It's said that an evil, ruinous spirit has lain dormant in Venomicon for over 1,000 years. Others say an organization used the soul of a scholar to seal it into Venomicon.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
With it's altered appearance, it can fly at much faster speeds and separate its two halves to do brutal attacks. Although it can't curse people who read it anymore.

Shield: It's movements appear to be controlled from another being; often twitching violently and attacking anything without warning, even its own trainer.

Venomicon
, the Arcane Pokemon

Sword: An old legend states that Venomicon wanders from library to library, seemingly in search of something.

Shield: Records tell of an epic battle between Venomicon and Chromera. Apparently Venomicon's cover was pristine before then.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Venomicon reacts violently when exposed to a specific kind of ink. It will ram itself into walls or inanimate objects if there's no suitable target.

Shield: The chemical makeup of the ink it uses is unknown. It won't let anyone get close enough to collect a sample.

Venomicon
, the Tome Pokémon

Sword: The glyphs found in the pages of its discarded shells leak sharp-scented fumes said to make people feel more awake and alert.

Shield: It prefers to spend most of its time asleep, withdrawn in its tome as its ink ferments. When provoked, it usually just flutters away.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
With a reckless curiosity, it lunges at anything that moves. Those pricked by its dye-dipped points are struck with vivid dreams of the future.

Shield: Mixture with a strange dye has left it restless and agitated. It darts through the air at incredible speeds, as if searching for something.

WIP

Venomicon
, the Eldtrich Pokémon

Sword: An animated grimore containing unspeakable power, it manifests ancient black magic to dissuade attackers before flying away.

Shield: Brought to life by the knowledge hidden within its pages, it strengthens itself against anyone that means it harm.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: The Vile Vial that helped bring it to life suppresses its mystical capabilities, forcing it to resort to more primitive methods to break free.

Shield: It suffers from constant agony by the corrosive ink that distorts its sight. Voodoll frequent the ruins of its rampages to grow stronger.

Venomicon, the Nib Pokémon

Sword: Venomicon covers each book it uses with a goopy ink. The ink hardens with repeated blows, protecting both the book and the Pokémon from harm.

Shield: Venomicon will carefully study everything in its book before moving to a new one. It seems to be seeking a long-lost spell.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: The ink from the vial mixing with Venomicon's natural ink causes a strange reaction. The resulting magic sharpens the pages of its book to a razor edge.

Shield: Confused by its head being stuck in the vial, it wildly flies around as if possessed. A skilled trainer can teach it to control itself, though.

Venomicon
, the Grimoire Pokémon

Sword: It was born from books sealed away in catacombs deep below, where the air grew foul over time. It spews a peculiar ink that stains anything it touches.

Shield: The odd glyphs within its pages pulse as if they were veins. They don’t seem to mean anything, though.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
It marks foes with a thousand cuts from its razor-sharp pages. Any ink that gets into these wounds becomes permanently burned in.

Shield: Possessed by an arcane inkwell, It frantically etches strange symbols on to anything it sees. It can’t stop until its ink supply depletes.

Venomicon
, the Cursed Tome Pokémon

Sword: A living relic from a dark, bygone era, this Pokémon is said to have been created by a vengeful sorcerer.

Shield: Each solstice and equinox, this Pokémon appears during the night at an ancient library deep within the Crown Tundra. Its cries are eerily human.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: After plunging its pen-like head into a forbidden inkwell, it darts about the skies in a berserk rage. When not flying, it shudders violently.

Shield: Venomicon’s vision has been enhanced beyond the material plane, but its ink obscures everything into moving targets. If it spots you, there is no escape.

Venomicon
, the Grimoire Pokémon

Sword: The incantations etched in Venomicon's pages are said to summon a powerful darkness.

Shield: Venomicon often reside in libraries, stealing the ink from other books to enhance their mystical abilities.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Its unbridled power originates from the dying wish of a legendary sorcerer.

Shield: Venomicon's attacks are empowered by its unchecked rage, stemming from the unstable magic used to create it.

Venomicon, the Literary Pokemon

Sword: Venomicon write with their own unique language. Scholars have failed for centuries at translating it.

Shield: Its ink is actually a virulent poison. A single drop is toxic enough to knock an adult Indian elephant unconscious.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
The vial contains a bizarre potion that was supposed to turn anything it touched into gold. Instead, it only causes madness.

Shield: It attacks randomly and viciously from the air. The contents of its vial amplify both speed and the strength of its poison.

WIP

Venomicon,
the Old Novel Pokémon

Sword: Though scary by appearance, Venomicon usually doesn't like to battle and takes a liking towards other people and Pokémon even though they are shy by nature.

Shield: Because Venomicon's pages are incomplete, it will allow it's trainer to take notes inside it. But pages already made always had information on Chromera.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: In this form, Venomicon can't control itself but will still listen to it's trainer. Though the vial is responsible, scientists still don't know how.

Shield: Venomicon's design is similar to a paper airplane, thus it doesn't need to flap its wings anymore and it can just hover and fly freely.

I really feel that Venomicon is going to be one of those misunderstood mons

Venomicon
, the Inkantation Pokémon

Sword: Dwelling within libraries, it tosses its iron-hard book at those who reject literature. Writing someone’s name on its pages is said to fatally poison them.

Shield: Many have sought after it to decipher the mysterious language written in its pages. If anyone tries to read it, it slams itself shut with an annoyed huff.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
A taste of strange ink clouds its mind. It hungrily leeches ink from paper and scrawls enigmatic images on anyone who enters its line of sight.

Shield: It was originally written by 30 authors who all fell into despair. The odd ink around its head warps its body and floods its vision with anguished writings.

Venomicon,
the Book Pokémon

Sword: Venomicon claims it has written the next great literary masterpiece. It has been rejected by 30 publishers so far.

Shield: While waiting tables, Venomicon often wonders if getting its master's degree in literature was worth it.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Venomicon's family has been concerned over its ink consumption lately. Venomicon claims it's "not a problem" and it "can stop anytime it wants."

Shield: Late at night you can often see Venomicon wandering the city streets asking for spare change to buy some more ink.

WIP

Venomicon
, the Written Word Pokemon

Sword: It was said to have been created to celebrate a 30th anniversary, but its written history has been marred by illegible ink.

Shield: A virulent ink runs through its body like blood, animating its pages like flesh and muscle, allowing it to take flight.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
It was drenched by the concentrated toxins of its original inkwell, and now seeks the destruction of all it regards with its chaotic gaze.

Shield: Cursed ink was spilled over this Pokémon as its text was being translated. Only one word was confirmed: "Destroy."

WIP

Venomicon,
the Lost Novel Pokemon

Sword: It's said to have been born from an unfinished epic after noxious ink was spilled on it. It seeks out more of this ink to finish the story itself.

Shield: The writings on its pages are seemingly nonsensical hieroglyphs. Anyone who peeks at them will have a flurry of ink-stained pages shot in their face.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword
: It sought out the Vile Vial and its ink to finish writing its story. However, the vial twisted its mind, causing it to become lost in its own writing.

Shield: Whatever the ink did to Venomicon's mind, it caused it to go on a violent rampage. It's theorized that the vial makes it see others as antagonists.

WIP

Venomicon
, the Observer Pokemon

Sword: Venomicon spends its days hovering over a seemingly assigned area, recording even the most mundane events. However, nothing it writes makes any sense.

Shield: Those who have attempted to read Venomicon's pages reported experiencing memories that were not their own.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Once unable to find meaning in anything but words, Venomicon now possesses the ability to comprehend images. This shift in its world view has driven it mad.

Shield: The Vile Vial's effects on Venomicon make it lash out in confusion. Investigation of this inkwell revealed that the ink inside doesn't belong to Venomicon.

WIP

Venomicon,
the Grim Page Pokemon

Sword: Venomicon is said to have been written by an insane man. One day, that man simply vanished without leaving any trace.

Shield: This cursed book has withstood all attempts to destroy it. It seems to multiply rapidly, which makes it a dreaded problem.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Thanks to its newfound powers, Venomicon's grim predictions are absolutely precise and violent. Nobody has survived them to tell the tale.

Shield: Thanks to its newfound powers, Venomicon can alter its own malevolent predictions at will, allowing it to lash out at full power.

(The base form Sword description is heavily based on the Necronomicon part of the Pokémon. It had been written by an insane man, Abdul al-Hazred, who was one day eaten alive by an invisible creature. The Shield description is a callback to the Stamina ability making it very hard to K.O., and to the fact such a Pokémon can actually reproduce. Here, I saw Venomicon-Epilogue as a further enhanced version of the base Venomicon, with deadlier predictions that can hit harder and more precisely: a reference to Tinted Lens. The Vile Vial is used as a means to alter its own predictions and make them hit harder, as explained in the Shield description, which answers the Sword description and justifies the use of Tinted Lens.)

Venomicon
, the Knowledge Pokemon

Sword: Venomicon’s pages contain hundreds of recipes for how to make poisons using ordinary objects. For this reason, Venomicon is banned from most bookstores.

Shield: Within the pages of Venomicon hold profound knowledge. Ancient Civilizations were very strict on who could read the secrets written within Venomicon.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Exposure to the Vile Vial has given Venomicon a sudden urge to transcribe its knowledge. Many famous works of literature have been written by Venomicon.

Shield: Venomicon’s ability to retain this form is reliant on the ink contained within the Vile Vial. When it runs out, it reverts back to its Prologue form.

For Name, I decided to go with the Knowledge Pokemon since books are often associated with knowledge and it worked well with both of the Prologue entries as well as the Sword Entry for Epilogue.

For Prologue, I decided to have both of the entries reference different pieces of literature. The Sword Entry references The Anarchist Cookbook while the Shield Entry references The Bible (Obviously re-contextualized seeing as how the former is obviously not appropriate for kids media and the later is a religious work). I also worked to try to make the two entries give of similar pieces of information in a different context, which I think helps keeps things simple.

For Epilogue, I decided to instead try to work with the idea of how its form change works. The Sword Entry I decided to contextualize how it goes from a written piece of work to an author, while the Shield form I more decided to just elaborate on how the Vile Vial works.

WIP

Venomicon
, the Spellbook Pokémon

Sword: It flies through the halls of abandoned libraries melting the knowledge out of other books. Any text consumed by its cursed ink is left completely blank.

Shield: Containing words unknown within its pages, Venomicon sends wicked gales towards any who attempt to read them.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
The contents of the Vile Vial have made its ink unstable. Venomicon now lashes out at any who approach in fear of losing its collected knowledge.

Shield: Venomicon's covers have been completely melted by its now corrosive ink. It hopelessly scrambles to keep itself from falling completely apart from within its tinted inkjar.

WIP

Venomicon
, the Unsanctified Pokemon

Sword: Venomicon was coveted by sages for its pages' fabled wisdom, but research shows its pages are in an unknown language with no known geographic association.

Shield: Its hunger for ink causes it to raid libraries and archives. An ancient library's centuries' worth of information has been lost to its hunger.

Venomicon-Epilogue

Sword:
Upon feeding on Chromera's ink and its aura, Venomicon became berserk. Its hunger for ink is sated, but its newfound hunger for destruction is unrelenting.

Shield: Its powers have shifted away from elemental and fortifying magic to become more capable of inflicting violence. It can now fly at hypersonic speeds.
