NU Bronzong

[Overview]

Bronzong is an effective Stealth Rock user in NU thanks to its solid defensive typing, great natural bulk, and Levitate. Because of these traits, it can very often find the opportunity to switch into foes like Cresselia, Sylveon, and Mudsdale and set Stealth Rock or spread Toxic if desired. It also makes a solid check to common metagame threats like Sylveon, Rotom-C, and Flygon. Thanks to Bronzong being immune to Spikes and poison, it is also very difficult to wear down with passive damage over the course of a game. Unfortunately, Bronzong's additional weaknesses to Dark and Ghost sometimes make it hard to justify over Copperajah, another Steel-type Stealth Rock user with a stronger offensive presence. Because of these weaknesses and Bronzong's passivity, it often invites in threats that quickly force it out such as Golurk. It also lacks any form of reliable recovery and therefore is very susceptible to item removal from the likes of Corrosive Gas Vileplume and Trick Celebi.

Thanks to Bronzong's great durability, it is able to repeatedly come in and set Stealth Rock during a game. It can make use of its excellent Defense to consistently wear down foes such as Tyrantrum and Exploud with Body Press. Toxic is great for crippling threats over the course of a game. Alternatively, Heavy Slam allows for more offensive pressure against common Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Diancie. Protect even can be used over Body Press to stack both poison damage and Leftovers recovery, notably at the cost of offensive pressure. Bronzong uses maximum physical defense to boost Body Press and stand up to physical threats better, as it already walls the majority of special attackers in the metagame.

Any Ground-weak Pokemon, such as Arcanine, Salazzle, and Dragalge, will appreciate Bronzong's natural Ground immunity, particularly keeping them safe from Flygon and Mudsdale. Bronzong's passivity and good defensive utility make it appreciate additional passive damage, mostly in the form of either Spikes from Golisopod or Roserade or the use of multiple Toxic spreaders to quickly cripple entire teams. Sylveon is an excellent partner for Bronzong, being able to switch into strong Dark-type attacks and provide Wish support to keep Bronzong healthy. Vileplume is another great defensive partner, being able to switch into certain physical attackers Bronzong struggles to deal with, such as Guzzlord, and threaten them back with Strength Sap or Corrosive Gas. Of course, Bronzong also appreciates being paired with strong wallbreakers such as Mienshao and Tyrantrum to make up for its minimal offensive presence. In turn, these teammates also appreciate Bronzong's ability to check Fairy-types.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Bronzong can make use of Iron Defense alongside Body Press to give it somewhat of an increased offensive presence, but doing so typically forgoes some of the defensive utility that makes Bronzong so good in the first place, and it's on the slower side for a setup sweeper. Earthquake allows for Bronzong to hit the likes of Arcanine, Drapion, and Salazzle for greater damage, while Gyro Ball can be used over Heavy Slam for more damage against Dragon Dance Flygon. Heatproof allows Bronzong to stand up to Fire-types such as Talonflame and Salazzle in addition to improving its matchup against Exploud, but doing so removes its ability to switch into various Ground-type attacks. Bronzong can also use an itemless set to better check Poltergeist users like Decidueye, Dhelmise, and Golurk, but the lack of Leftovers recovery will be very noticeable.

Checks and Counters
====

**Dark-types and Ghost-types**: Drapion, Zoroark, and Guzzlord all heavily threaten Bronzong if they can get in on it without being hit by Body Press with their STAB Dark-type attacks. Golurk, Dhelmise, and Decidueye all pressure it with strong Poltergeists as well.

**Special Wallbreakers**: Super effective hits from the likes of Salazzle, Goodra, and Exploud will hit Bronzong for a large chunk of damage. If running Protect, Bronzong can at least scout the attack and then switch out.

**Item Removal**: Bronzong uses Leftovers as its main means of maintaining longevity during a game. Without it, Bronzong is way easier to remove from play, meaning Stealth Rock can be removed permanently. Various Knock Off users, Corrosive Gas from Vileplume, or Trick from Celebi or Rotom-C will greatly disrupt Bronzong's staying power.

**Magic Bounce**: Xatu and Espeon prevent Stealth Rock from being set and Toxic poison from being spread, which pretty much means Bronzong is hard walled. Additionally, neither of the two are particularly scared of its offensive coverage.

Because of these weaknesses and Bronzong's passivity, it often invites in threats that quickly force it out such as Pangoro or Golurk. It also lacks any form of reliable recovery, and therefore is very susceptible to Knock Off. (I'd change this to something like "vulnerable to item removal." whatever helps convey that Trick and Corrosive Gas also suck for Bronzong. Hell, I'd not worry a whole lot about an explicit Knock Off mention anyway given the predominant users of the move---Pangoro, Mienshao, and Drapion---aren't Pokemon you'd typically switch into anyway)

I'm going to bring it up with QC, but I don't think a) you need full special bulk investment in this meta and b) that the listed moves are ideal. I would go so far as to say Earthquake isn't that great anymore because of Toxtricity's ban and that Psychic is super relevant to deal with Vileplume better (I think it's a near-guaranteed 2HKO with minimal support required) and not hard lose to Bewear. My ideal slashings would be Stealth Rock / Psychic / Body Press / Toxic or Heavy Slam. I'd have Protect as a move mention (only to be used alongside Toxic frankly), Earthquake as a move mention to target foes like Copperajah, Drapion, and Arcanine, and Gyro Ball as a move mention for a better matchup against boosted Flygon.

This is what the set should be. You can probably find a mixed defensive EV spread too, but right now the special wallbreakers that we have generally aren't breaking Bronzong even without investment.

Thanks to Bronzong's great durability, it is able to come in and set Stealth Rock repeatedly during a game. Earthquake is the primary attack of choice, being able to deal decent damage to anything that isn't immune or resistant to ground. It also scares of Fire-types such as Salazzle from switching in to Bronzong as freely. Protect affords Bronzong numerous benefits: it can scout what move choice item users will lock into, it can gain an additional turn of Leftovers recovery, and it can compound Toxic damage on the foe. Gyro Ball gives Bronzong a secondary attacking that is great for hitting fast Pokemon or Flying-types such as Flygon or Aerodactyl. If using Gyro Ball, Bronzong should opt for a Sassy Nature in order to have a stronger Gyro Ball as often as possible. Toxic on the other hand is great for crippling some of the bulkier threats in the tier such as Mantine or Arcanine, and also works well to punish a greedy switch from something like Pangoro.

(Fix this paragraph to accommodate set changes.)

Any ground weak Pokemon, such as Arcanine, Salazzle, or Tyrantrum, will appreciate Bronzong's natural ground immunity, particularly keeping them safe from Flygon or Mudsdale. Vileplume is another great defensive partner to pair with Bronzong, being able to switch in to most strong Physical attacks and threaten a Strength Sap or Corrosive Gas. Of course, Bronzong also appreciates being paired with strong breakers such as Mienshao, Pangoro or Tyrantrum to make up for its minimal offensive presence. (May as well mention that these teammates appreciate Bronzong effectively checking Fairy-types, which can give them issues to varying degrees.)

Bronzong can make use of Iron Defense and Body Press to give it somewhat of an increased offensive presence, but doing so typically forgoes some of the defensive utility that makes Bronzong so good in the first place. It's also painfully slow for a set up Pokemon, and will likely get taken out before it can accomplish much. (Heatproof helps to make Talonflame and Salazzle less problematic for Bronzong, so it can get a spot down here. I've also used Trick + Choice Scarf to alright success, but I'm unsure if I'd bother including it here.)

Checks and Counters
====

**Dark-types and Ghost-types**: Pangoro, Zoroark, and Guzzlord all heavily threaten Bronzong if can get in on it without being hit by Toxic, and threaten it heavily with their STAB Dark-type attacks. Golurk, Dhelmise, and Decidueye all pressure it with strong Poltergeists as well, all hitting Bronzong for its weaker defensive side.

**Knock Off Users**: Bronzong uses Leftovers as its main means of maintaining longevity during a game. Without them, it is way easier to remove from play, meaning Stealth Rock can be removed permanently. Knock Off will also deal considerable damage if it comes from any physical attacker. (Change this to item removal and address foes like Corrosive Gas Vileplume and Trick Celebi.)

**Magic Bounce**: Xatu and Espeon prevent Stealth Rock or Toxic from being setup, which pretty much means Bronzong is hard walled. Additionally, neither of two are particularly scared of its offensive coverage.

**Taunt Users**: Similarly to Magic Bounce users, Taunt renders Bronzong practically useless as it can't get Stealth Rock set. It is quite susceptible to Taunt due to its low Speed stat. (The only really relevant Taunt user is Drapion, and you don't want that matchup anyway.)

Thanks for looking this over friend, these changes have been implemented and I just have one question regarding a comment you made on move options.

I'd have Protect as a move mention (only to be used alongside Toxic frankly), Earthquake as a move mention to target foes like Copperajah, Drapion, and Arcanine, and Gyro Ball as a move mention for a better matchup against boosted Flygon.
I'm not entirely sure where you wanted these, but for now I put them in OO. Lmk if anything else needs to be changed :blobthumbsup:

Thanks to Bronzong's great durability, it is able to come in and set Stealth Rock repeatedly during a game. Psychic allows Bronzong to deal considerable damage to anything with a Psychic-type weakness, namely Mienshao, Bewear, and Salazzle Vileplume.(Vileplume is a huge reason you run Psychic; you only care about this Salazzle sequence if you're running Heatproof) Otherwise, it can make use of its excellent physical Defense to wear things foes like [give some Body Press targets; Tyrantrum is an example] down consistently with Body Press. Toxic is great for crippling threats over the course of a game, and is great for punishing greedy switch-ins. Reword to say that Vileplume can handle certain physical attackers Bronzong struggles with and give an example or two) and threaten a Strength Sap or Corrosive Gas. Of course, Bronzong also appreciates being paired with strong breakers such as Mienshao, Pangoro or Tyrantrum to make up for its minimal offensive presence. Vileplume is another great defensive partner, being able to switch into certain physical attackers Bronzong struggles to deal with, such as Pangoro, and threaten them back with a Strength Sap or Corrosive Gas. Of course, Bronzong also appreciates being paired with strong wallbreakers such as Mienshao, Pangoro, and Tyrantrum to make up for its minimal offensive presence. In turn, these teammates also appreciate Bronzong's ability to check Fairy-types.

====

**Dark-types and Ghost-types**: Pangoro, Zoroark, and Guzzlord all heavily threaten Bronzong if they can get in on it without being hit by Body Press with their STAB Dark-type attacks.
