Pet Mod Book of Enigmas - Slate 3: Same But Different Maybe?

pineco.png

Homing Spikes
Original Pokémon:
Pineco
Typing:
bug (1).gif
ground.gif

Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 46/128/98/64/98/136 (570)
Added Moves: Earthquake, Earth Power, Taunt, U-Turn

Competitive Description: Fast lead that can work as a Hazard Setter and Cleaner, also being able to pivot with U-Turn. It can also use it's low HP to abuse it's ability, breaking through opponents items such as Focus Sash or lowering their HP to enter on the range of revenge kill by other teammates.

Flavor: War Pineco (I might work better on this later).

1671155165446.png

Helium Wings
Original Pokémon:
Fearow
Typing:
1671155235763.png
1671155255783.png

Ability:
Cleansing Fire
Stats: 77/123/85/83/99/103
Added Moves: Air Slash, Defog, Energy Ball, Fire Blast, Fire Lash, Flame Charge, Flamethrower, Flare Blitz, Heat Wave, Hurricane, Mystical Fire, Solar Beam, Will-O-Wisp

Competitive Description: Helium Wings acts as budget Ho-Oh a Fire Special Attacker, being able to deal good damage with it's special attack while also keeping itself healthy with it's ability, with items such as Band/Life Orb making up for massive damage and instant effects. However, it can also keep it's longevity with Roost and Will-O-Wisp, while holding Heavy Duty Boots as a way to safely enter on hazards and clean them with Defog.

Flavor: It already looks like Ho-Oh but ugly, so this paradox pretty much acts as a mimic to Ho-Oh, but not being that magical and rainbow-ish.

Name: Draconic Jaws
Original Pokemon: Mawile-Mega
Type: Dragon / Steel
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 102 / 86 / 83 / 110 / 107 / 92 [BST: 590]
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Dragon Tail, Spikes, Dragon Dance
Removed Moves: All Fairy Moves
Description: With the dex cuts, there is an overall lack of strong special dragons and specially bulky steels. This aims to fill that void with a high special attack stat, wide array of special coverage, and excellent defensive typing and stats. Nothing is generally super overbearing but it’s wide movepool and excellent stats and typing make it quite powerful.

:sm/relicanth:
Name: Renewed Antique
Original Pokemon: Relicanth
Type:

Ability: Cleansing Fire
Stats: 101 / 111 / 81 / 85 / 111 / 81
Paradox: Sky
New Moves: Wave Crash, Flip Turn, Flash Cannon, Metal Burst, Iron Head, Gear Up, Volt Switch, Spark, Thunder Wave, Iron Tail, Magnet Bomb, Metal Sound, Electric Terrain, Steel Beam, Zap Cannon, Autotomize, Roar, Healing Wish, Extrasensory
Removed Moves: Ancient Power, Earth Power, Head Smash, Rock Blast, Rock Polish, Captivate, Hail, Meteor Beam, Mud Shot, Mud-Slap, Mud Sport, Natural Gift, Rock Tomb, Sandstorm, Scale Shot
Description: This Pokemon appears to be a more powerful form of Relicanth and has only been seen in mountaintop rivers. This Pokemon's body appears to be entirely mechanical, though it appears to only be as intelligent as a normal Relicanth.
I tried making a SpD mon on literally any other type that isn't Water or Steel, but quickly realized that most types that aren't Water or Steel (or Grass and Fire kinda) suck at being SpD types, so here's Mega Empoleon. Good Special bulk lets the Antique check Water and Ice-types, which'll be helpful against Rain teams, while having all the normal stuff you want a Steel-type to do + pivoting. Also gets Calm Mind if you're a sadist and don't feel like using Suicune.

:sm/pinsir-mega:
Name: Toxic Stalactite
Original Pokemon: Pinsir
Type:

Ability: Cleansing Fire
Stats: 95 / 115 / 135 / 45 / 75 / 125
Paradox: Sky
New Moves: Gunk Shot, Toxic Spikes, Rock Blast, Poison Jab, Megahorn, U-Turn, Venoshock, Poison Fang, Dual Wingbeat, Fly, Aerial Ace, Air Cutter, Air Slash, Roost, Defog
Removed Moves: Curse, Focus Blast, Feint Attack, Captivate, Helping Hand, Rain Dance
Description: This Pokemon appears to be a more powerful form of Pinsir. It bears a striking similarity to a form of Pinsir found in another region, but this Pokemon appears to posses a more aggressive attitude and a shinier, poisonous shell.
We got 3 Mega-inspired paradoxes last slate, which I don't really want to be a pattern, but Mega Pinsir is sick and the only viable Bugs are Scizor, Kleavor, and maybe Forretress and Heracross (and Shuckle for Webs ig), so I'll do this once. I liked how Mega Pinsir uses an overdone typing like Bug/Flying and made it good, so I tried to do the same thing here with Bug/Poison (though Scolipede is already a good mon with this typing). Toxic Stalactite can serve a nice Boots pivot, with its typing and great natural physical bulk allowing it to serve as a soft check to Sneasler, while the combo of Megahorn, Gunk Shot, and your choice of CC, EQ, and Knock Off being very threatening. Walled by the likes of Skarmory and Forretress, just like the Mega Pinsir of old. Ironically similar to Mega Beedrill, just replace power with better coverage and bulk.

:sm/dragonite:
Name: Island Colossus
Original Pokemon: Dragonite
Type:

Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 96 / 78 / 90 / 134 / 102 / 70
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Shadow Ball, Shadow Claw, Hex, Heavy Slam, Spikes, Flip Turn, Phantom Force, Dazzling Gleam, Foresight, Snowscape
Removed Moves: Agility, Aqua Jet, Dragon Dance, Dual Wingbeat, Extreme Speed, Tailwind, Aerial Ace, Fury Cutter, Captivate
Description: This Pokemon appears to be a more powerful form of Dragonite and has only been spotted near the Whirl Islands. This gargantuan Pokemon is thought to be the cause of many natural disasters in both Cianwood and Olivine City.
The Iron Jugulis to Dragonite's Hydreigon. A lower BST and worse ability made up for with a better typing, improvements on DNite's already great movepool with Ghost coverage, and a little more utility with the addition of Spikes and Flip Turn. Doesn't very much appreciate that we just added two Dark-types though. Side note, Dragon/Ghost is a super neat typing but also the one with the least options considering the rarity of both Ghost and especially Dragon in the dex.

:sm/mightyena:
Name: Blistering Bark
Original Pokemon: Mightyena
Type:

Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 80 / 90 / 90 / 110 / 90 / 110
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Ice Beam, Snowscape, Blizzard, Surf, Whirlpool, Ice Spinner, Icy Wind, Sheer Cold, Frost Breath, Haze, Grudge, Destiny Bond, Avalanche, Switcheroo
Removed Moves: Counter, Fire Fang, Heal Bell, Play Rough, Sucker Punch, Yawn, Captivate, Incinerate, Thunder Fang
Description: This Pokemon appears to be a more powerful form of Mightyena and has only been observed near Johto's coldest waters. A single growl from this Pokemon can summon a Blizzard, leaving anything in the area frozen in either ice or fear.
All of our Special Ice-types not named Ninetales-A suck and our resident Dark/Ice got banned, so here's this. This Pokemon exists to click its STAB moves and that's it. No utility, no setup, barely any coverage, nothing but great Special offense and a broken STAB combo to abuse. Very simple plug-and-play option. Walled forever by bulky Waters, Blissey, and, to a lesser extent, bulky Fairies and Scizor, but maybe you can cheese them with Destiny Bond.

Karura.png

(WIP Sprite, might edit if this wins)
Name: Carnage Karura
Original Pokemon: Magmar
Type: Fire / Ground
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 78 / 84 / 98 / 124 / 68 / 118 (570)
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Tail, Earthquake, Earth Power, Shore Up, Stealth Rock
Removed Moves: None
Description: Back when the Whirl Islands were a single island, a group of Magmar lived in the island. When Lugia tore the island into 4 pieces, the population of Magmar was forced to fight each other for scarce resources. The strongest of them all developed into the Carnage Karura.
Design resembles mostly Magmar's design but the pallet for the the yellow and red of its design is inverted + one of its arms is like Magmortar.
Competitive Description:
I had noticed that the meta is lacking fire types as well as offensive ground types that can switch into stealth rocks safely besides Paldean Tauros (which surprisingly looks like a nice mon) and so I came up with this. I dropped a lot of its speed in order to invest more into its physical bulk which makes it a good counter to meta defining stuff like Scizor or Skarmory, as well as being a great offensive check to the new additions of Fleece, Tempest and Vine.

Pokemon: Pistil Whip
Type:

Ability: Cleansing Fire
Stats: 73 / 123 / 111 / 85 / 55 / 127 | BST: 570
Moves: Ivysaur's Movepool
+Aura Sphere, Bulk Up, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Focus Blast, Rock Blast, Stone Edge, Superpower, Trailblaze
-Growl, Poison Powder, Sludge Bomb, Sweet Scent, Toxic

Competitive: He still go fast. Powerful SD sweeper but easily blanked by bulky Poisons (Ivysaur's movepool notably misses Earthquake).
Flavor: The two flowers on its back to shoot seeds with enough force to puncture steel. It defends the deepest parts of Ilex Forest from humans.

:ss/bayleef:
Pokemon: Wilt Scythe
Type:

Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 76 / 80 / 72 / 142 / 126 / 74 | BST: 570
Moves:
+Dark Pulse, Hex, Horn Leech, Night Slash, Last Respects, Shadow Ball, Shadow Claw, Strength Sap, Slash, Will-O-Wisp
-Aromatherapy, Heal Pulse, Sunny Day, Tackle

Competitive: Bayleef already gets so many great tools like [], [], and [], so naturally, a special wallbreaker was the way to go with this Paradox! real talk i just wanna see if mixed last respects user is good/balanced, not too keen on the stat spread, but i do want it to be high spatk, low atk, mid speed. if that stuff doesn't work out, wisphex and specs is there.

Flavor: Wilt Scythe searches for lost souls and exterminates them, sending them to the underworld. The leaf on its head can cleave intangible spirits.

:XY/forretress::toxapex:
Name: Abysmal Bunker
Original Pokemon: Forretress
Type:

Ability: Corrupting Storm - When this Pokemon is KOed by another Pokemon, the attacker loses 1/8 max HP every turn until it switches out.
Stats: 82 / 102 / 156 / 82 / 102 / 46 (BST: 570)
Paradox: Sea
New Moves:
+ Baneful Bunker, Spiky Shield, Freeze-Dry, Ice Beam, Icicle Spear, Aqua Ring, Brine, Clamp, Dive, Liquidation, Surf, Waterfall, Water Spout, Whirlpool, Withdraw
- Bug Bite, Bug Buzz, Pin Missile, Pounce, Giga Drain, Solar Beam, Seed Bomb, Sand Tomb, Sandstorm, Body Slam, Thunder Wave, Volt Switch, Zap Cannon, Rock Blast, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge
Description: It has lost the lower part of its stronger shell, but he's developed some tentacles that work like roots, keeping it grounded on the lowest depths of the ocean. When touched by a prey, Abysmal Bunker throw poisonous spikes that block it, and then eat it alive.

Don’t have all too much on my hands right now, so here’s a resub. May try and draft a second sub if I have time, but no real guarantees

:sv/Kingler: Conept Art (Design Not Final):
Spindle Claw Posted Draft.png

Name: Spindle Claw
Original Pokemon: Kingler
Type:

Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 66 / 76 / 138 / 124 / 96 / 70 [570 BST]
Paradox: Sea

New Moves: Bug Buzz, Lunge, Metamorphosis*, String Shot, Spider Web, Sticky Web
Removed Moves: None

Type:

Category:

Base Power: 120
Accuracy: 90
PP: 10 [16 Max]
Effect: This attack charges on the first turn and executes on the second. Raises the user's Special Attack by 1 stage on the first turn. If the user is holding a Power Herb, the move completes in one turn.
Priority: 0
Flags: Same as Meteor Beam
Flavor: First turn it wraps itself in fibers, similar to a cocoon, consolidating energy. Second turn it bursts from the fibers, shooting the fibers at the target. Spiders don't do Metamorphosis, however this move is actually in reference to the poem Metamorphoses, where Arachne got brought back to life as the first spider.

Description: Spider Crab taken literally.

Description within the Silver Book: This odd Pokémon bears resemblance to Kingler. However, its claws are far smaller and wrapped in fibers, qualities that it utilizes in order to weave nets. This led us to call it "Spindle Claw." It was observed that Spindle Claw traverses the sea floor with its long, spindly legs, catching unsuspecting prey within its net.
Gold Dex: It bears a slight resemblance to a Pokémon described in a dubious magazine as a Kingler with properties similar to an Ariados.
Silver Dex: This Pokémon has only ever once been documented. Within the Silver Book, it was dubbed "Spindle Claw."

A web setter that is far more viable (compared to Ariados and Cricketune) and far less passive (compared to Shuckle) than our rather weak selection of webbers in the meta. Fulfils the currently lacking category of viable special bugs as of now (the only other is really Yanmega), with Bug/Water/Ice coverage. Defensively its bulk is rather strong, allowing to especially switch-in on physical threats. Water/Bug defensively provides some valuable resists, most notably against Fighting, Ground, and Ice breakers.

Work!
Vetoes
Subs continue to be quite impressive and, unlike last time, there are only a few things we (The Council) want to point out to you (The Submitter). We also have a holiday schedule we'll be sharing at the end of the post.

:sv/ninetales-alola::froslass::lucario:
Name: Mesmerizing Aura (WIP)
Original Pokemon: Ninetales-Alola
Type:

Ability: Cleansing Fire
Stats: 85 / 115 / 55 / 115 / 65 / 145 [570 BST]
Paradox: Sky

New Moves: Shadow Ball, Memento, Misty Explosion, Spikes, Light Screen.
Removed Moves: All Ice-Type moves except Blizzard, Calm Mind.

Description:
"A Visage of Good Luck."

Incredibly few have been granted permission to climb the Mt. Silver, but those who have, know that, along the side of the mountain, standing in the snow, you can encounter a Ninetales with 14 tails and a bright orange aura that'll grant you success in anything that you do there just by seeing it. This creature that seems pulled out straight from an oldwives tale, is said to be Ho-Oh's vizier by those who claim to have met it.

Competitive Description: suicide lead or glass cannon that wants to set up w np but has a better chance of being named governor of San Miguel de Tucuman
baby Flutter Mane here is probably unsalvageable without a lot of alterations. Ghost/Fairy is unresisted here and as the fastest mon in the tier and access to NP it is pretty much impossible to handle without heavy priority. Heavily reducing speed, a type change and removing NP are all suggested options here, but you'll probably need to do a few of them.

View attachment 473688

"This Pokemon is said to resemble a plant from ancient myth that lives high atop mountains, capturing anything that lands in its jaw-like Leaves."
Name: Voracious Maw
Original Pokemon: Mawile
Type: Steel/ Grass
Ability
: Cleansing Fire
Stats: 119 HP / 105 Atk / 101 Def / 91 SpA / 85 SpD / 69 Spe / 570 BST
Paradox: Sky
New Moves: Jaw Lock, Bullet Seed, Power Whip, Leaf Storm, Razor Leaf, Energy Ball, Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, Synthesis, Spikes, Roar, Fly Trap
Fly Trap:
Grass, 35 BP, Physical, 100% Accuracy, 24 PP - Traps and damages target for 1/16 of health, lasts 5 turns. Deals 1/8 of health to Bug and Flying Types (Whirlpool + Salt Cure clone)
Removed Moves: All Fairy moves, Swords Dance
Description: No Ferrothorn? No problem! Voracious Maw serves a very similar role to the metal durian, laying down Hazards and racking up passive damage with Leech Seed, Fly Trap and Roar. It can also serve as a trapper with Fly Trap and Leech Seed slowly whittling down its foes.
Therroforn is too bulky for the meta (it's actually bulkier than Ferrothorn and has a 50% recovery move). A bulk reduction is needed but we'd also be okay with Synthesis and Sleep Powder being removed. The custom move, as is, is just worse Snap Trap so you could just give it that. Or lean more into the Salt Cure mechanics.

We also generally want to talk about custom moves here. While custom moves are fun, some custom moves that were included this slate are either not worthwhile to code, have vague mechanics or both due to being the same as an existing move but with extra steps. If your sub is included below, your sub is legal but the custom move will not be part of the submission should it win.

:xy/poliwhirl:
Name: Howly-Whirl

New Moves: Hurricane, Aeroblast, Dark Pulse, Knock Off, Acrobatics, Psywave, Psyshock, Psychic, Wrapping Storm
Removed Moves: Scald
Wrapping Storm: special, Dark, 75 BP. 5 turns trap. Each direct hit Howly takes remove 1 turn of trapping.

Description: The spiral on it’s belly is now enormous while its eyes become dark and life less. A mouth appears on its spiral that now looks like a maelstrom. It’s members are now falling down.

A Melmetal like playstyle, you’re here, you’re bulky and you hit everything near you. Can trap but not very effectively.

New Moves: Healing Wish, Wish, Mystical Fire, Will-O-Wisp, Sacred Fire, Eerie Spell, Perish Song, Faithful Hope
Removed Moves: Sludge Bomb, just all physical movepool except EQ, play Rough , Super Fang, Return and Counter,
Faithful Hope: status, Fire, -50% to the user, can KO it. When another Pokémon switches in, lost HP is gained. Wish with Healing Wish mechanic.

Description: A cleric/monk/whatever religious you want that pries Ho-Oh. Its eyes are closed, it has a candle in its hands, just look kinder and less aggressive and with less muscles. It can’t touch anything dirty and hate violence.

An utility, I gave it Shuckle-like bulk instead if Alomola like because Wish-Pass with that much HP is not fun. It can run Special attacks to PP stall and reduce SpAtk.Can pass HP safely though.

Description: Funny set up sweeper, can use either Bulk Up to be a consistent menace or use No Retreat as a no holds barred late game cleaner. It is also plain old excellent at speed control, sporting a 141 speed stat makes it a pain in the ass for offense to deal with. No "good" fighting STAB forces Aureate Fin users to be creative in their means to hit Water resists.

Thus it enlisted the help of a strange female pokemon to preserve that history through strange dances, each telling a story. Dressed in refined red kimonos these pokemon travelled Johto spreading their dances to humans and pokemon alike. It is said to have great affinity with the pokemon Eevee.

Description:
" A Healing Houndoom..."

Said to have been directly blessed by Ho-Oh, this Triple-Headed Pokemon inhabits one of the highest peaks in Johto, close to Mt. Mortar.
This Pokemon's fire has healed several travelers mortal wounds, and restored their vitality, riddling them of any tiredness, while being warm as a summer breeze.
Rumours even circle around Johto's south region about a Tyranitar that disturbed the Cerberus to take hold of the mountain , and was then quickly ejected from the peak like a bird taking flight.
If not disturbed, and approached kindly, this Pokemon will act as a resting point, a healer, a Cleric. Otherwise, it'll face you with some of the attacks that only the fiercest of warriors can tolerate without fainting.

Description: pult/noivern type beat, 2nd fastest mon in the format and has good set variety
Sly Fortune: A Crafty Trickster?!
  • There are many stories spread across the Johto region that tell of a Sentret of rotund stature and mysterious powers. This description is similar to that of Sly Fortune, a creature that was written about in the Book of Enigmas.
  • Sly Fortune is rarely seen so not much is confirmed about it. Supposedly, it's a mischievous creature that can turn dried leaves into money. It has been claimed to do so for its own gain, but will bring legitimate prosperity to those it befriends.

It's Sentret but doubling down on its tanuki inspirations. Looks like Totoro.

New Moves: Flare Blitz, Overheat, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Sacred Sword, U-turn
Removed Moves: Curse, Shadow Ball
Description:
"Numerous reports have detailed a mysterious entity resembling Leafeon throughout the Johto region, though there is very little connection between the two species, if any. The name "Bladed Bloom" was given due to its resemblance to a similarly-named entity in the Book of Enigmas. Its leaves burn brightly with the powers granted to it by Ho-Oh. Though the bladed leaves on its paws and tail are laced with pure fire that can cause severe burns, it only uses them as a last resort and is mostly peaceful otherwise, preferring to release special chemicals that cause foes to lose their will to fight. Strangely enough, its leaves have special healing properties, though not much is known about them."
Competitive Description: Fast offensive pivot that can also pack a punch due to its potent STAB combo. Not a lot of Grass-type offensive pivots [Tangrowth is primarily defensive] and not a lot of good Fire-types in the meta [Entei/Moltres are the only good ones, rest like Alolawak are mid outside of very specific scenarios], so why the hell not? Use your good power and decent STABs and coverage to go ham on the opponent, and with U-turn at the helm should you need to bring in another mon, Bladed Bloom can prove itself a formidable threat. Alternatively, you can also run a Swords Dance build or an All-Out Attacker build if you so desire, turning its already decent offensive presence up to 11. Despite this, its typing is not the best defensively, most notably leaving it with nasty weaknesses to Rock- and Flying-type moves. Furthermore, its special defense is not great, leaving it open against special attackers like Flying Specter that can live any attack Bladed Bloom throws at it.

An utility, I gave it Shuckle-like bulk instead if Alomola like because Wish-Pass with that much HP is not fun. It can run Special attacks to PP stall and reduce SpAtk.Can pass HP safely though.

New Moves: Sacred Tackle*, Leaf Blade, Waterfall, Zen Headbutt, Knock Off, Zing Zap, Spirit Break, Mountain Gale, Hone Claws, Bulk Up, Slack Off, Nature Power, Swords Dance
Removed Moves: Covet, Swift, Tackle, Tickle, Mud-Slap, Shadow Ball, Pay Day, Fake Tears, Attract
Type: Fire
Category: Physical
Base Power: 90
Accuracy: 100%

Flags: Protect (fails against Protect + variants)
This move ignores the target’s Ability. No contact.
Description: Flareon-alike Paradox Pokémon with traits of other Eeveelutions, as well as their fluffier fur having rainbow-colored gradient. It was used to be either an Eevee or a Flareon before being reincarnated by Ho-Oh, and blessed with the capacity of using a variety of different types of moves.
Competitive Potentials: With higher HP, thus overall better bulk, and actual coverage (including BoltBeam in the form of Zing Zap and Mountain Gale), in addition to a reliable Fire-type signature that ignores Abilities and contact-penalizing mechanics. Low physical bulk still sucks without Bulk Up set-up, and gains an obnoxious weakness to Fighting.

New Moves: Dragon Rush, Outrage, Draco Meteor, Morning Sun
Removed Moves: N/A

Description: (WIP) A purple wyrm that resembles Arbok, but with fur and horns around it. The markings on its hood resemble tattoos one might find on someones chest instead of a face for intimidating

Competitive Description: The idea behind Corrosive Wrath is to be a premier Coil sweeper, with its massive Special Defense and relatively unique typing. I wanted to give this thing a recovery option, and decided that Morning Sun made the most sense thematically considering its ties with Ho-oh. While Coil is probably its primary set, it does have access to Glare and Dragon Tail to spread Paralysis and Toxic if you wanted a more utility based set. Cleansing Fire acts very similarly to Shed Skin in this regard, resetting its status after a KO.

New Moves: Play Rough, Moonblast, Moonlight, Dazzling Gleam, Mystic Fire, Power Gem
Removed Moves: Swords Dance, Poison Jab, Throat Chop, Toxic

Description: (WIP) A star nosed mole that has semblances of Sandslash's design, notably its giant claws. The quills on its back are now a cosmic dark purple resembling the night sky, glimmering star-like sparkles included

Competitive Description: The dreaded Ground / Fairy type that is expected to be exceptionally powerful, I wanted to be careful with such a type. I decided that an all-rounder stat line would be a good way of both balancing the type out offensively while also letting its defensive capabilities shine. Sandslash, with a few movepool additions, makes for a perfect Pokemon for this idea thanks to its natural access to Rapid Spin, Spikes, Knock Off, and Stealth Rock. I decided to remove Swords Dance because I wanted to be cautious about the power level of this thing. This thing can also be used as a Special Attacker thanks to its STAB combo alongside its natural access to Focus Blast. Mystic Fire and Power Gem are also a neat little option for coverage that I thought I'd give it to really let its Special Attack shine. Overall a neat little utility mon.

Primal Ooze: Toxic clone. Ignores the opponent's typing. 8PP.

“Despite appearing entirely made of bones, this Pokémon seems capable of consumption. Ironically enough, it appears its main source of sustenance is the remains of other Pokémon, specifically the bones.”

Super scary steel showing monstrous physical stats which gets even scarier thanks to moves like Swords Dance, and Iron Defense, making it the more effective of a breaker and one that's harder to break. Mostly held back by it's poor speed stat and 4x weakness to fighting (just shoot it with an Aura Sphere or Focus Blast, though that said it has pretty good HP and special defense on top of the already sky high defense stat), nor does it have a great STAB combo, that said it can boost its speed with Trailblaze (which can also allow it to surprise unsuspecting ground and water types, even with a base power 50) and furthermore it has plenty of good coverage moves (most notably moves like Play Rough, Earthquake, and Close Combat).

  • Locals will tell you to be on your guard if it is dark and chilly out, as Hungering Fog is said to devour the souls of anyone who crosses its path. Long ago, ancient tribes would worship this creature and give it offerings in an attempt to quell its appetite.

Directly based on the Black Fog from the manga The Electric Tale of Pikachu, but Ice-type for comp purposes. Also takes some inspiration from Haunter’s Red and Blue sprite, prolly would have a cyan outline instead of purple.

Name: Violet Mimmic
Original Pokemon: Ditto
Type: Normal/ Poison
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 110 HP / 80 Atk / 120 Def / 80 SpA / 130 SpD / 50 Spe / 570 BST
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Protect, Recover, Refresh, Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Facade, Transform, Toxic, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Poison Jab, Acid Armor, Calm Mind, Psychic, Stored Power, Haze, Thunder, Giga Drain, Knock Off
Removed Moves: N/A
Description: Incredibly bulky wall with a very limited movepool. Can also try to use a double dance Stored Power set, using its great bulk to acquire multiple boosts.

Name: Baleful Blizzard
Original Pokemon: Glaceon
Type: Ice / Ghost
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 84 / 80 / 80 / 108 / 98 / 120 [570 BST]
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Light Screen, Taunt, Dark Pulse, Focus Blast, Encore
Removed Moves: Sunny Day, Celebrate
Description:
"Mysterious sightings of an ethereal entity resembling Glaceon have been spotted throughout the Johto region, though there is very little connection between the two species, if any. The name "Baleful Blizzard" was given due to its resemblance to a similarly-named entity in the Book of Enigmas. It is said to have been created when a Glaceon died in the wild during a particularly tumultuous storm and revived, taking the more ragged form that sightings have described. It is highly aggressive, attacking those that come near with powerful blizzards created via its control over ice; despite its highly ferocious temperament, the entity is also very elusive, using the blizzards it creates as cover to escape. Because of this, not much more is known about Baleful Blizzard."
Competitive Description: Fast specs abuser. Use your good speed to fire off devastatingly powerful Freeze-Drys, Ice Beams, and Shadow Balls, which by themselves enable you to match up well versus mons like Flying Specter. With Focus Blast at the helm to hit Dark- and Steel-types super effectively, you can easily overcome mons like Tyranitar. In particular, it is a good abuser of Corrupting Storm, as, if it dies [which is very likely given its weak defenses], the chip it provides can either take one of the opponent's mons down with it or force a switch. Alternatively, it can take a more support-based route with dual screens and options like Taunt and Encore, though such an option is generally more niche compared to a straightforward attacking option. Suffers from a poor defensive typing and mediocre bulk that leaves it weak to Knock Off, Stealth Rock [if not running more niche support builds], and generally strong attacks, super effective or not.

Description: Glowking eat your heart out. Sneasler has been looking a little sus lately, so I added a funny mon to keep it in check. Does some other stuff too, like setting webs and bullying Tangrowth (please do not ask about the Weeping Vine matchup).

Description: The spiral on it’s belly is now enormous while its eyes become dark and life less. A mouth appears on its spiral that now looks like a maelstrom. It’s members are now falling down. It's meant to use Taunt the Heatran way.

A Melmetal like playstyle, you’re here, you’re bulky and you hit everything near you. Can trap but not very effectively.

Power Points: 5 (8)
Flags: Protect (fails against Protect + variants)
The user unleash a reckless barrage of lightning bolts, damaging all Pokémon, including itself, on the field. The user is still hit even if it fails to hit all other Pokémon.
Description: Based of a storm cloud, this Wigglytuff lookalike is said to be a result of a powerful thunder hitting an unknown Pokémon, causing it to become corrupted by the unstable storm-driven electricity.
Competitive Potentials: Slow, physically bulky Fairy / Electric type that have a powerful, consistent STAB, namely Storm Rage. While easy to revenge kill, it’s Nasty Plot set can prove annihilating. However, Storm Rage’s drawback means that it will always hurt itself it is keep using this move, even if the opponent is Ground-type or have Volt Absorb / Lightning Rod.

Type: Ghost / Grass
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 72 HP / 136 Atk / 126 Def / 54 SpA / 146 SpD / 36 Spe BST 570
Paradox: Sea

New Moves: Shadow Sneak, Shadow Ball, Hex, Ominous Wind, Night Shade, Destiny Bond
Removed Moves: N/A

Description: (WIP) Parasect but learning even heavier into the parasite / zombie theme it has, the Ghost typing representing that the host is completely zombified in this form due to the corruption empowering the parasite.

Competitive Description: Bulky Grass and Ghost type that hits hard and has access to Spore, making it exceptionally threatening both as a set-up Pokemon due to its access to Swords Dance and priority STAB Shadow Sneak and as a bulky pivot with utility moves like Knock Off, Leech Seed, Synthesis, and Stun Spore to go alongside Spore. Thanks to its massive attack stat this thing will hurt regardless of it being invested or not, meaning it is not passively sitting there like other bulky Pokemon. Meanwhile, its huge bulk and Spore lets it set up easily with Swords Dance to go for a sweep. Notably it lacks a strong Ghost STAB to keep offensive sets in check.

The user lunges with brutal force with a spear or horn. The attack lowers the users and the targets Defense stat by 1 stage.

Description: (WIP) A black, angrier looking beast that resembles both of the Nidos with a more notable horn that is integrated with a crown design.

Competitive Description: A decently fast mixed attacker with good physical bulk and a good typing for switching in and letting it hit hard. Physical sets have access to less coverage options but stronger moves like Gunk Shot, Superpower, and its signature move Monarch's Decree while special sets have a bit less power in its STAB options and stats in exchange for access to the Nidos signature wide assortment of moves.
:sv/steelix-mega:

Name: Argent Bolt
Original Pokemon: Mega Steelix
Type: Steel / Electric
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 64 / 82 / 164 / 64 / 172 / 44 (590)
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Discharge, Parabolic Charge, Rising Voltage, Surf, Thunder, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Wave Crash, Wild Charge, Whirlpool
Removed Moves: N/A
Description: This Pokemon resembles Argent Bolt, a serpent described within the Book of Enigmas. According to myth, two nations once went to war over a sacred island. A sea deity took notice and, angered by their violent profanity of the island, it sent upon them great bolts of lightning. The lightning rent the island into four, destroying its defilers in the process. Design is like Mega Steelix, but the hexagons marked throughout its body would be replaced with swirls, its face would become more angular, its jaw would lose some of the ridges, and its crystals would have lightning shooting between them.
Competitive Description: Huge mixed wall with Steel-typing and lots of versatility, plays similarly to Heatran. The main sets I see this using are physical wall and special wall, fairly self explanatory. They'd likely run some combination of STAB, Body Press, Earthquake, Stealth Rock, Roar, Thunder Wave, and Scorching Sands. Other sets I could see working are Whirlpool trapper with something like Whirlpool / Earthquake / Toxic / Taunt and bulky setup with Curse/Dragon Dance and whatever else. It doesn't any recovery, so make sure to bring Wish support and reliable hazard control. It really hates eating EQs, so pair it with a Ground resist (especially Flying-types, since they also resist Fighting). Some good partners for it might include Gliscor, which can keep hazards off with Defog and come in on Earthquakes and Close Combats aimed at Argent Bolt; Clefable, which can pass Wish and come in repeatedly in Argent Bolt's place, keeping it topped off; and Pelipper, which can clear hazards and set rain, nullifying Argent Bolt's Fire weakness and strengthening its Water moves, making it harder for Ground- and Fire-types to switch in.

Description: Special Steels don't really exist and we're still short on Fairies. Packs so much utility with a good generalist statspread.

:sm/dragonite:

Type:

Stats: 80 / 90 / 90 / 110 / 90 / 110

:entei: Slate 3: Same But Different Maybe? :moltres:

As a quick reminder, we are not treating these submissions as pairs! They will be treated as separate submissions in voting, so please keep that in mind if you plan to create any sky/sea counterparts.

There are restrictions on subbing this time! Council asked the Discord server for ideas on what kinds of Pokemon they'd like for the metagame. We have compiled and curated that list and will present it at the end of the post. These are known as roles, though we are defining the word very loosely. The role has been added to the sub template and all subs this slate must fulfill at least one of the roles in the list.

A winning sub will take the roles they fill out of the role list, and the role list can always be added to for future slates in #metagame-role-suggestions on our Discord server.

Submission rules & guidelines are as follows:
  • All submissions must have 570 BST - submissions that use mega Pokémon may use 590 BST, but it’s recommended that these types of submissions are made sparingly
  • All sky & sea paradox submissions must use their respective custom abilities - Cleansing Fire and Corrupting Storm
  • All submissions must share at least one type with their original
  • All sky paradox submissions must have odd-numbered stats, while all sea paradox submissions must have even-numbered stats
  • NEW SLATE 2: ALL PARADOXES MUST BE DUAL TYPE
  • Submissions must use Pokémon from HGSS’ regional dex + swarm mons & regional forms (ie. you can use Typhlosion, since it’s in HGSS’s dex, but you cannot use Corviknight)
  • Movepools will be assumed to be from the original Pokémon’s movepool, unless specified
  • You may submit up to 4 paradoxes, either sky or sea - you may sub 3 sky and 1 sea, 1 sea only, 2 sky and 2 sea, etc. Two submissions will then be voted in - one sky and one sea!
  • Custom moves are allowed
Using this template is not required

Name: Crystalline Hive
Original Pokemon: Beedrill
Roles: Fast Rock-type, HO Lead, Offensive Pivot
Type: Rock/Poison
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 70/88/86/100/126/120 (BST: 590)
Paradox: Sea (Corruption)

New Moves: Ancient Power, Power Gem, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Stone Edge, Spikes, Final Gambit, Meteor Beam, Stealth Rock
Removed Moves: All Bug-type moves except U-Turn, Roost, Outrage, Defog

Flavor: A Beedrill variant that plants itself in the ground via a rocky, crystal-like poison hive made from unknown crystals, luring Weedle around it to be apart of it. The hive has a smell equivalent to a skunk's, but for unsuspecting passersby it may smell like flowers. This is a common tactic this variant uses to lure and stab prey with its needle arms. When in trouble, it launches a final attack and escorts the hive to somewhere safer, hence Final Gambit.
Description: Fast Rock-type suicide lead that can also work well on offensive teams, being able to set hazards via Spikes and Stealth Rock. Think of it as an Accelgor-esque Pokemon that can also be an offensive pivot and a good HO mon that can run Specs or Power Herb depending on the offensive set. Special Rock-types are actually fairly uncommon too so this does have a pretty good niche.

Name: Mystic Leviathan

Roles: Cleric Not Weak to Fighting/Poison, Defensive Fire-type, Defensive Pivot

New Moves: Wish, Thunder Wave, Life Dew, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Ember, Flip Turn, Will-O-Wisp, Scald
Removed Moves: All Ice-type Moves, Megahorn

Flavor: TBA
Description: THE wishpasser of all time. Has a really good defensive typing and special bulk and can make use of its pivoting and Wish to heal up allies with low HP. Cleansing Fire can even cure status if you manage to get a kill. Unfortunately has no actual recovery outside of Wish and has low Physical Defense, but WoW can take care of that.

Type: Fire/Ground
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Paradox: Sea
Stats: HP-134/Atk-70/Def-82/SpA-104/SpD-124/Spe-56 BST:570
Movepool changes: -Electric moves, Quick Attack, + Earthquake, Mud Shot, Scorching Sands, Slack Off, Earth Power, Stealth Rock
Role: Defensive Fire-type.
Bulky hazard setter and special wall. Slack off provides reliable recovery. A secondary ground typing is really good on a defensive Fire-type for taking away its Stealth Rock weakness. MM itself can reliably set Rocks throughout a match. Scorching Sands for half STAB half status.
Design and Concept: We gave Charmeleon the Clodsire treatment. It basically covers itself in mud and lies on its belly.
Legend speaks of a deadly creature, invisible through camouflage, lying in wait to scorch the feets of its enemies.

:sv/scizor:
Name: Lustrous Champion
Origin: Scizor
Type: Steel/Fairy
Ability: Cleansing Fire
Paradox: Sky
Stats: HP-75/Atk-135/Def-95/SpA-95/SpD-85/Spe-85 BST: 570
Movepool changes: -Close Combat, Bullet Punch, U-turn, Agility, Automize, +Play Rough, Volt Switch, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch, Drain Punch, Sacred Sword, Luster Buster*
Role: Offensive Fairy/Steel-type
By virtue of an outstanding typing, staggering attack stat, punishing STAB move in Luster Buster, and awesome utility from Knock Off, Roost, Volt Switch, and Defog, Lustrous Champion will probably have a solidified place in the metagame. It could probably run a variety of sets, ranging from a Swords Dance wallbreaker, Choice Scarfer, defensive Defogger, Volt Switch pivot, or just an all out attacker.
Design and Concept: Scizor’s hands are replaced with sword blades. The spikes on its head are rearranged to look like a crown. It also trades its red paint job for silver, ever so slightly tinted with pink (because it’s a fairy).
The Lustrous Champion is a defender of justice, sworn to destroying the forces of corruption. All darkness flees before the light cast from its righteous blade.

Fairy/Physical/Pow-120/Acc-100/PP-16/Lowers user’s attack by two stages.

Type: Water/Ground
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Paradox: Sea
Stats: HP-150/Atk-102/Def-76/SpA-108/SpD-74/Spe-60 BST: 570
Movepool changes: -Ice moves, Scald, Aura Sphere, Rapid Spin, + Flip Turn, Parting Shot, Earthquake, Earth Power, Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Clear Smog, Spikes, Boomburst, Haze
Role: Defensive Pivot
Real bulky with 150 HP. Water/Ground makes for an incredible defensive typing to be used alongside great utility, such as Flip Turn or Parting Shot for a slow pivot, Spikes to stack hazards, and moves like Sludge Bomb and Body Slam to fish for status. As a counterbalance, recovery is unreliable. Probably gonna run Assault Vest.
Design and Concept: Freak hybrid of a tortoise and a toad. It’s basically a brown/green froggo chillin in a big shell.
By the work of a deep, powerful, and dangerous magic, a toad and tortoise have been joined in a benign unity, creating a monster unlike anything before seen. Lord of the marshes, Shelly Croaks roams the wetlands endlessly in search of a meal, never able to quell its insatiable hunger.

Name: Tyrant Drone
Origin: Yanmega
Type: Bug/Dragon
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Paradox: Sea
Stats: HP-100/Atk-122/Def-90/SpA-86/SpD-102/Spe-70 BST: 570
Movepool Changes: -Hypnosis, Giga Drain, Quick Attack, +Dragon Dance, Outrage, Fire Blast, Confuse Ray, Spikes, Poison Jab, Cross Poison, Gunk Shot
Role: Dragon-type, some form of pivot.
Despite an interesting yet somewhat unfortunate typing, Tyrant Drone can fill a number of roles, including as a powerful Dragon Dance set-up sweeper, offensive or bulky pivot using U-turn, or a possible Spikes setter. Access to Defog makes it capable of going the opposite direction and clearing hazards. With decent coverage, such as from Fire Blast, it could function as a mixed attacker. Tyrant Drone’s typing lets it handle a number of Grass, Psychic, Dark, and Dragon-types, but leaves it vulnerable to Fairies if not running Poison-type coverage.
Design and Concept: Bigger, scarier Yanmega. Has longer teeth, darker color scheme with more purple, a much longer tail with rows of spikes, and heavier claws. It’s wings are also significantly larger and scarcely shaped like those of a dragon.
A fearsome ruler of the mountains, Tyrant Drone dictates the every motion of its subjects. None dare challenge it for its gloomy throne for fear of a humiliating defeat before its mighty claws. The Tyrant Drone is truly a menacing sight to behold.

PP: 10 [16 Max]
Effect: Heals user for 33% of max HP. The next ally to enter the field will have 25% max HP restored upon switch-in.
Priority: 0
Flags: Same as Life Dew
Flavor: The user summons a holy light to rejuvenate itself. This light remain until another ally switches in, healing said ally for a bit as well.

Description: Cleric whose high physical bulk and psychic typing allows it to reliably tank hits from most fighting types. Gets clerical utility via Heal Bell for status, and through a signature move akin to Bust a Move’s Life Dew. Has other utilities that it can also utilize to thwart fast, physical breakers, most notably being Wisp.

A Fairy Tale Come True?
An old fairy tale tells of a lost Pokémon, scared and alone, who encountered a rainbow-colored feather. This feather blessed the Pokémon with great powers, which it would use to care for the weak and helpless. Odd sightings have been reported within the Ilex of a Pokémon whose radiant fur emits an iridescent glow. Could this Pokémon and the Pokémon from the fairy tale be one in the same?

Gold Dex
: It bears similarities to a Pokémon described as “Radiant Locks” within the Gold Book, gaining its name from its shining, iridescent fur.
Silver Dex: It bears resemblance a Pokémon within a dubious magazine, in which it was believed to have been bestowed power by a rainbow wing.

:sv/scizor:
Name: Magma Sentinel
Original Pokemon: Scizor
Role: Defensive Fire-type, Physical wall, Stealth Rock setter, Pivot
Type: Fire/Steel
Ability: Cleansing Fire
Stats: 99 / 115 / 121 / 65 / 89 / 81 [570 BST]
Paradox: Sky
New Moves: Flare Blitz, Fire Punch, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Overheat, Stealth Rock, Iron Head
Removed Moves: Bullet Punch, Thief, Swords Dance, Roost
Description: "Numerous reports from across the Johto region have sighted a mysterious entity throughout the Johto region. The entity, named "Magma Sentinel" due to its resemblance to a similar entity in the Book of Enigmas, bears a resemblance to Scizor, one with silver armor, flames from its pincers, and a core of pure magma on its upper body, though there is no established connection between the two species. It typically resides in mountainous or dry areas, typically volcanic areas, though more recent reportings have sighted it near places like the Brass Tower. The entity absorbs heat through its core and converts it to energy, and as a result, is known to avoid the cold. Though not particularly aggressive, if provoked, it will attack with sheer fury, either by converting the magma in its body into fiery blasts which it shoots out of its pincers or crushing or bashing targets with its pincers."
Competitive Description: Heatran with pivoting. Has great bulk and an amazing defensive typing to back it up, ensuring that it can live plenty of hits. Also has great utility in Stealth Rock, Knock Off, and U-turn, all of which it can utilize well in a variety of roles. With a decent base attack and good STABs in Flare Blitz and Iron Head, Magma Sentinel is also not passive and offensive builds are potentially viable. It does have a few flaws, however, most notably a lack of reliable recovery, which leaves it prone to getting worn down over the course of the game. Furthermore, though its typing is amazing defensively, it also leaves it with weaknesses to the various Water-, Fighting-, and Ground-types [the latter particularly so] in the meta as well as mons that pack such coverage types, and it is somewhat slow at base 81 speed.

:sv/leafeon:
Name: Bladed Bloom
Original Pokemon: Leafeon
Role: Offensive Pivot, Swords Dance sweeper
Type: Grass / Fire
Ability: Cleansing Fire
Stats: 85 / 115 / 101 / 87 / 73 / 109 [570 BST]
Paradox: Sky
New Moves: Flare Blitz, Overheat, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Sacred Sword, U-turn
Removed Moves: Curse, Shadow Ball
Description: "Numerous reports have detailed a mysterious entity resembling Leafeon throughout the Johto region, though there is very little connection between the two species, if any.

:sv/gardevoir:
Name: Doomed Guardian
Original Pokemon: Gardevoir
Role: Fast Fairy, Offensive Fairy, Offensive support, Specs abuser
Type: Ghost / Fairy
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 94 / 66 / 82 / 102 / 110 / 116 [570 BST]
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Hex, Recover
Removed Moves: Calm Mind, Focus Blast, Aura Sphere, Charge Beam
Description: "Numerous reports have detailed a mysterious, ethereal entity resembling Gardevoir throughout Johto, though no connection between the two species has been established. It has been rumored to have been the spirit of a princess of an ancient kingdom who attempted to conquer Johto in a campaign launched 1,250 years ago, though historical records of such events have yet to surface. The entity is known to be very seductive, luring humans into its graces and manipulating them. If they, at any time, refuse, it will attack the target, though if the target tries to fight back, it will flee, erasing the target's memories from the time it first encountered it in the process."
Competitive Description: Flutter Mane but less offense-oriented and more focused on support. You still have a great offensive typing and decent coverage in Mystical Fire and Psyshock but without Choice Specs you're not as powerful especially because you have no boosting options available. Use your wide variety of support moves such as Encore, Wisp, and Taunt to cripple the opponent and support your team; considering its amazing speed tier and good bulk, Doomed Guardian should have no problem in this role. You can also run a Specs set to abuse your amazing STAB combo and decent coverage too. Suffers from somewhat weak physical bulk without Will-o-Wisp and somewhat weak offensive capabilities without Specs, which can lock you into an unfavorable move. In addition, while Ghost/Fairy is an amazing offensive STAB combo, it is rather unfavorable defensively, with practically no resists undercutting some decent immunities, leaving it vulnerable to more powerful attackers that pack super-effective coverage.

:sv/mightyena:
Name: Mountain Lurker
Original Pokemon: Mightyena
Role: Fast Rock-type, Suicide Lead [Stealth Rock + Spikes], Physical Wallbreaker
Type: Rock/Dark
Ability: Corrupting Storm
Stats: 94 / 110 / 100 / 76 / 76 / 114 [570 BST]
Paradox: Sea
New Moves: Knock Off, Stealth Rock, Memento, Close Combat, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Power Gem, Spikes, Bulk Up
Removed Moves: Double Team
Description: "Recent reports have detailed a mysterious entity resembling a more jagged form of Mightyena, though there is very little connection between the two species. It has often been sighted in more mountainous areas, particularly after sunset. Unlike Hoennian Mightyena, this entity appears to travel by itself. It often hides in dark paces and stalks its prey before striking it when they least expect it."
Competitive Description: Suicide lead with both Stealth Rock and Spikes. Use your good speed to get up Stealth Rock [and/or Spikes], and your decent attack to try and do as much damage before dying. Furthermore, it is a good abuser of Corrupting Storm, as it can use it to either take its opponent with it or force a switch and put more tempo in your hands. Alternatively, a Bulk Up or 4 attacks set is plausible given its high speed, good attack, and good coverage in Close Combat/Play Rough. Suffers from a poor defensive typing that leaves it weak to common attacking types, most notably Fighting.

humm. Here’s my third time submitting this, a defensive Fire and SpDef fairy I guess?

New Moves: Healing Wish, Wish, Mystical Fire, Will-O-Wisp, Sacred Fire, Eerie Spell, Perish Song, :c
Removed Moves: Sludge Bomb, just all physical movepool except EQ, play Rough , Super Fang, Return and Counter,
