AbsolOffbeat-HeatFlygon

Hello, and welcome to Offbeat-Heat!
(AKA OffHeat)

Cohosted with Adem

In this project, our goal is to find ways to 'spice up' pokemon through unique, unexpected sets that have a viable niche. An example of this would be to run opposite mons; making a physical attacker a special attacker and vice versa. Most sets in this list will be very anti meta and almost guaranteed to be quite niche, but it's all for the sake of pulling a 180 on your supposed counters and checks. Also keep in mind that in a majority of situations, these sets will be inferior to the standard smogon-verified sets, but they will easily catch people off guard and might pull reversal on counters.

Please do mind these rules while posting
1. Please avoid toxicity for any reason at all. If you disagree with a submission, it's ideal to give advice than to flame someone. It is alright to criticize other's ideas for the sake of a better teambuilding experience, but keep an open mind and accept new ideas.
3. Different sets of the same Pokémon can be submitted.
5. Explain your submitted Pokémon's set to give everyone an idea of what it does and what makes it worthy of a submission. It is suggested that you upload calculations on the build/counter your chosen Pokemon is trying to deal with.
6. When making a post, state what BDSP metagame the Pokemon is to be used in.
7. Sets need to be diffrent enough from the norm but still functional and useable in high level competitive play.
8. A set can be diffrent from the norm by something as simple as an item change, but it is advised to submit things that would be impossible to predict.
9. If possible, please consider adding a gif or sprite of the Pokemon you are showing.

Let me set an example for the upcoming sets!

Slowbro
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 12 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Slack Off
- Skill Swap

-BDSP OU

This Slowbro set may look like a standard slowbro set at fist glance, but there is more than meets the eye to it. This set can set up calm minds on many offensive threats, even setting up on special attackers thanks to the spdef raise of Calm Mind. The max HP max physdef spread lets slowbro tank many physical attackers, while always haiving the potential to cripple them with a scald burn. The main reason to have skill swap is for Unaware Cleafable. Without skill swap, Clefable could easily power through the weak scalds even if you're at +6 special attack. This set can still function as a standard Slowbro, as it still runs the same EV spread and a simmilar moveset. This set can function as an amaizing late-game cleaner as it can still prove a lot of support through the midgame via scald, regenerator and slack off. In the perfect situation, you don't even have to reveal that you have calm mind or skill swap, making you look like a standard slowbro. This set can struggle with walls like Chansey, as it can easily swap into a calm mind and heal off your damage, even at +6. It is also reccomended to partner this Slowbro with pokemon that can deal with the likes of Weavile, Magnesone, Rotom-W and Crawdaunt.

The idea for this set came from Aerodactlylikemm

Latias
Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect Type
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Stored Power

-BDSP OU
Ah yes, the good old latias. Latias in the current metagame has never had the true potential it should have as most people regard it as only a defensive version of latios. The difference is, this set doesn't get forced out by many of its checks instead, it forces them out. For an example, normally scizor is an amazing latias check because it can tank every possible move and get a stab free u-turn for momentum on the latias teamates. What's different with this set is the presence of Reflect Type, which is a move that will copy the opponents typing and can make non swords dance Scizor basically walled by it. Other checks like Clefable cannot beat this set because latias can Reflect Type and tank moonblasts while stored power at +6 going through unaware and will Ohko it. Well, people can debait about the most notable weakness in this set the fact that it can't hit dark types. Even though that is a weakness that this set will always have the best way to deal with that is having good team support aswell as baiting in Crawdaunt and Weavile with other mons on your team. Finally, I want to talk about my favorite matchup with this set and that is Stall. First off, Stall, Stall is normally not running any Dark Types, Second Stall's worst weakness is this set as it can sweep through unexpected teams as their check would be clefable. That's all and I hope you enjoy this post.

Hi and thanks for showing interest in the forum! Unfortunately, all threads need to be approved by the mod team as stated in the rules. However, this is a fairly good idea, and we'd be willing to look into reopening this project after a quick pm convo. Thanks!

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 120 HP / 192 Atk / 56 Def / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Taunt
- Swords Dance
- Roost

-BDSP OU

This Skarmory set is very different from the norm. It's main draw is that it's offensive while being decently bulky. These EV's let this skarmory outspeed specially defensive Gliscor, adamant Crawdaunt and Azumarill, while also outspeeding subpunch Breloom while packing a nasty gift: Swords Dance. This Skarmory set can easily set up swords dance on Gliscor, Scizor, Staraptor, outrage-locked Garchomp & Dragonite, as well as Donphan and Shaymin. Weak armor will make you faster than any variant of Gliscor, Lati twins, Alakazam and Weavile. This Skarmoy beats Gliscor, Scizor, Clefable and Blissey by setting up swords-dance, and taunting. If backed by a rocks setter, this Skarmory can also be an effective sweeper assuming counters like Heatran, Magnezone and Rotom-W are disposed of. After a swords dance, this Skarmory guaranteed OHKOs every prominent flying-weak target aside from Tangrowth which cannot harm it, but might actually trigger its weak armor with a knock off. With stealth rock and swords dance up, this Skarmory can OHKO the likes of Garchomp, Mamoswine, Feraligatr, Shaymin, Starmie, while 2HKOing scarf and specs Rotom-W. This Skarmory set is also notable for completely dominating the Scizor matchup, as at +2, it is guaranteed to 2HKO any type of Scizor, on top of Scizor being more than willing in u-turning on it, which will trigger weak armor and let Skarmory set up swords dance for essentially free. This set is hard countered by standard Skarmories that outspeed it, but against the majority of them it can taunt them before they can pull off a whirlwind.

Alakazam
Alakazam @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 44 Atk / 212 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Psychic
- Fire Punch
- Charge Beam
- Focus Punch

-BDSP OU

This Alakazam set lures in 3 important pokemon to get chip on, or beat. This set 2HKOs Scizor with fire punch, while staying away from bullet punch OHKO range.

44 Atk Life Orb Alakazam Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 8+ Def Scizor: 161-192 (46.9 - 55.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

Focus punch allows Alakazam to hit Blissey and specially defensive Heatran, doing approximately 50% to both; and making them unable to wall upcoming assaults from common teammates such as Scizor and Latios. Charge beam is replaceable, but it provides a way to hit Skarmory, Starmie, Togekiss and Feraligatr while having great odds of raising your special attack. This set is walled by common latias sets, but with a simple move change of either focus punch or charge beam into shadow ball or dazzling gleam, you can become an effective answer to all the fairy-weak dragon types in the tier as well as potential switchins such as Weavile. Since this set uses life orb as its item, instead of the more common focus sash, it deals more immediate damage despite having less special attack investment. The main reason to use this set over the standard set with focus blast is its consistency. Focus blast has a nasty tendency to miss, with its 70% accuracy, while fire punch cannot miss and focus punch is highly synergistic as Alakazam very easily forces Blissey and specially defensive Heatran to swap in. Taunt can also be exchanged for one of the moves, as it allows Alakazam to block healing from Blissey. Physically defensive Scizor and completely shut down most variants of this Alakazam.

Gliscor
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Fling
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake

-BDSP OU

Offensive Gliscor is a forgotten threat from the days of DP, but it has aged surprisingly well in the BDSP meta. One of the best things about this set is it’s surprise factor. Gliscor usually takes a very passive role in the meta, acting as a bulky pivot for most teams, and as a defogger for stall. In comparison, this Gliscor is a lot less bulky due to the absence of roost. But not all is hopeless; poison heal lets you heal large amounts of health, while also protecting you from status if it's activated, and having great synergy with fling. Fling lets you select what pokemon you want to cripple with poison, preferably bulky pokemon that glues balance together, and making your job of wallbreaking a lot easier. This gliscor reaches 263 raw speed, allowing it to outspeed most Heatran variants, Jolly Breloom, Dragonite, Adamant Feraligatr and Magnezone. It’s plan is simple, really; it flings toxic orb to a counter such as Rotom-W, crippling it and making it unable to come in much longer. Gliscor’s great natural defenses and poison heal let it be a surprisingly bulky wall breaker that is hard to wear down for many teams. This Gliscor does well with partners such as Magnezone as it can easily get rid of bulky water types that would halt this Gliscor. This Gliscor best fits on Bulky Offense - style teams, as it will have the prominent surprise factor there, and it will be able to cripple important targets such as Infernape, Garchomp, Blissey and Tangrowth.

Rotom-Wash @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 164 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Volt Switch
- Trick
- Hydro Pump

-BDSP OU
Rotom-Wash is the third most popular mon in usage right now and it looks like it will stay there. Rotom-Wash is definitely the best water type in the BDSP OU metagame and it’s hard to question why. The three major sets on it have been Choice Scarf, Choice Specs, and Leftovers. Normally, for Choice Scarf Rotom users make it’s role a revenge killer that can trick Choice Scarf as an amazing bait for defensive walls like Blissey and Clefable. The normal player will use Rotom-Wash as a lead as it is extremely hard to switch into since it causes 50/50s.. Even if you account for your switchin it still has the risk of getting a Choice Scarf and basically being neutered for the whole game. The difference with this set is the presence of nasty plot. Nasty plot allows you not only to trick bait blissey, but also force extreme pressure on every other pokemon as none of them will like +6 boosted hydro pumps. The presence of 164 speed on this Rotom-Wash allows it outspeed pokemon like Alakazam, While the presence of bold nature allows it to still function as a defensive pokemon after tricking away its Choice Scarf for Leftovers. This set can also be an amazing Tangrowth lure as it can trick away its choice scarf then make tangrowth take an immense chip for +2 hydro pumps/ volt switches. This will force the Tangrowth to click a move like giga drain to ensure your Rotom-Wash can’t set up anymore which can let a normally walled pokemon like breloom freely switch in and get a kill. Lastely, Choice Scarf Rotom-Wash can be a huge threat for Hyper Offensive teams as it outspeeds a lot of the pokemon they use, such as Infernape, Garchomp and Latios, while being able to cripple the likes of Scizor with a choice scarf.

- Healing Wish
- Meteor Mash
- U-turn

-BDSP OU

Hi, Colbur Berry lead Jirachi is a really cool lead for HO teams, especially for DragMag as it can lure and RK non-Beat Up Weavile for these teams which usually struggle with. It also can set rocks and pivot out into your breakers, and potentially Healing Wish them back up, while still being a Latios switch in. The attack EVs let Jirachi OHKO Weavile with Meteor Mash. Nothing too complicated, justa. fun set I like to use.

Yanmega
Yanmega @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature/Naughty Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leech Life
- Reversal
- Hypnosis/Giga Drain

-BDSP UU

This Yanmega is a completely different take on it’s niche. It’s role is shifted from wallbreaker to late-game sweeper as it trades one of it’s fantastic abilities for another amazing ability in speed boost. The combination of speed boost and swords is extremely overpowered, but when the attack comes off Yanmega’s average-at-best attack, it seems a lot more balanced. Focus sash nie guarantees that yanmega will survive for a turn, and set up a swords dance, while hypnosis lets you set up easily on a majority of the meta. Giga drain requires running a neutral nature for best effect, but even without any investment it OHKOs the likes of Quagsire after stealth rocks. This potentially makes it an enormous wallbreaker, as it can lure in pokemon like Chansey, only to swords dance and heal off upwards of 60% with leech life. Reversal is going to be your main attack once you have been brought down to focus sash. At 1%, it has a BP of 200, making it nie unwallable. This is pushed further by your ability to set up multiple swords dances easily while also scaring out a majority of the metagame.

+2 252+ Atk Yanmega Reversal (200 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 280-330 (71.2 - 83.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Mawile @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 248 HP / 130 Atk / 44 SpA / 86 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Ice Beam

-BDSP NU

This mixed attacking Mawile is used to bait in it's checks like Tangela and Gligar and ohko with ice beam. Even landing a 2hko against Sandslash on the switch. This Mawile is a good fit on balance teams since it threatens the two best defoggers in the tier Skuntank and Gligar. With the right EVs you can outspeed Tangela which is important to prevent sleep powder or knock off crippling Mawile. However with these EVs you don't always OHKO max spDef Gligar but it misses the ohko against you as well. Even if you don't see these two pokemon Mawile can still provide with a good priority move and good stab in Play rough and Iron head hitting most of the tier with heavy damage besides Magmortar which has to stay healthy to stay out of sucker punch range.

Magnezone @ Choice Specs

BDSP OU

Whenever you see Magnezone, you automatically assume it's Magnet Pull so opponents won't try to switch their Steel-type out, so you can bluff trapping Steels while also getting off heavy damage with Analytic boosted Volt Switches and Flash Cannons while being an even harder hitting nuke than usual:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Analytic Magnezone Flash Cannon vs. 244 HP / 144 SpD Gliscor: 297-351 (84.3 - 99.7%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Choice Specs Analytic Magnezone Volt Switch vs. 248 HP / 220+ SpD Heatran: 174-205 (45.1 - 53.2%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Hippowdon
Hippowdon @ Life Orb / Soft Sand
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Atk / 28 Spe
Adamant Nature
-Earthquake
-Fire Fang / Ice Fang
-Stone Edge / Fire Fang / Ice Fang
-Slack Off

-BDSP UU

This Hippowdon is an interesting pokemon. It is mostly outclassed by Milotic as a wall, due to its relatively low defenses on the special side. But being a wall is not all Hippowdon can do, after all it does have a respectable base attack of 112; higher than Snorlax. This pokemon can run both life orb and choice band, both having their own upsides and downsides. Life orb is synergic as Hippowdon has access to reliable healing in slack off. Choice band would allow you to run both ice fang and fire fang. The 28 speed EV’s are there to let you outspeed Registeel and other Hippowdon. Thanks to it’s high attack stat, Hippowdon is capable of doing one of the hardest tasks for a physical attacker to do, which is 2HKOing physically defensive Milotic. This set thrives in environments where there are no bulky waters such as Milotic, Suicune and Slowbro. This means that this sets best functions on teams with pokemon like Rotom-M and Raikou, while also working well with Gyarados as it can shield it from super effective rock, water and electric type moves. Soft sand can provide a simmilar boost to Hippowdon's main stab without the drawback that comes from life orb. Life orb on slow bulky pokemon tends to be a very unappealing trait so it is understandable that run soft sand. Leftovers are also quite good on this set as it still quite naturally bulky with just max HP investment.

EVs: 200 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Gunk Shot / Poison Jab

-BDSP NU

This Arbok set is able to lure and cripple common switch-ins like Regirock, Gligar, and Sandslash with Black Sludge. Black Sludge makes you lose 1/8 of your HP every turn if you lack the poison typing, making it much easier to sweep with Coil. Sucker Punch allows you to beat psychic types like Jynx, Grumpig, and Mr. Mime that may try and revenge kill you. 200 HP EVs allow you to live a Psychic from defensive Grumpig and Chimecho after Stealth Rock, and 56 speed EVs allows you to outspeed modest Exeggutor.

0 SpA Chimecho Psychic vs. 200 HP / 0 SpD Arbok: 228-270 (73.3 - 86.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Grumpig Psychic vs. 200 HP / 0 SpD Arbok: 218-258 (70 - 82.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Claydol
Claydol @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 152 HP / 252 SpA / 104 Spe
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Nasty Plot
- Rapid Spin
- Psychic / Shadow Ball

-BDSP RU

This is a Claydol set no one will ever expect. Claydol is an important centerpiece to the RU metagame as it thwarts off many of the biggest threats, sets stealth rocks, and rapid spins opposing ones. This Claydol on the other hand, does only the latter. It uses maximum special attack investment to let it get the biggest benefit from it’s hidden trick: nasty plot. Thanks to Claydol’s great natural bulk and leftovers, it is easy to fool players into thinking it’s the standard bulky set, but once the opportunity arrives, you can rapid spin and set up a nasty plot to sweep midgame. The speed investment lets you outspeed non scarf Rotom and Houndoom after only 1 spin. Thanks to Claydol’s great bulk, you can set up many nasty plots on staples such as Chansey, Sabeye (without taunt or encore), and the plethora of fighting types in the tier. Shadow ball lets Claydol chip rotom for 60-70%, while easily surviving Rotom’s own shadow ball. Psychic is exchangeable for shadow ball, as it is better in more matchups. Psychic will OHKO Rotom after a nasty plot, and 2HKO Vaporeon and Mantine after rocks. Chansey is not much of a threat as it rarely carries ice beam, and is usually setup fodder.

Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

- BDSP UU

Sharpedo is one of the most frightening cleaners in UU. It has high attack and strong STABs, making it hard to wall despite it having no reliable way to raise it’s attack other than life orb. Due to this, many bulkier teams rely on pivoting around and having Sharpedo wear itself out. This set is different. This set is initially weak, but i makes use of Sharpedo’s frailty to it’s advantage with liechi berry. UU is home to many bulky waters, such as Milotic and Suicune, both of which will be forced to scald Sharpedo. This is exactly Sharpedo’s plan. It lures in buly waters and KO’s them with destiny bond, opening a huge hole for teammates such as Flygon and Entei. Endure let’s you reliably get liechi berry activation and easily puts you within destiny bond range for every attack as you stay on 1 hp. This set is easily revenge killed by priority users such as Ambipom and espeed-locked Entei. This sharpedo needs team support to be an effective cleaner, as it needs at least minor chip on many targets in order to OHKO them reliably. This includes Flygon, offensive Rotoms and Zapdos, but all of those are also perfect bait for destiny bond.

Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough / Zen Headbutt / Iron Tail

-BDSP RU

Absol is one of the best revenge killers in RU. It posses the strongest priority in the tier as well as swords dance, easily creating 50/50s. This set capitalizes on those situations, as in most cases, people will swap out, letting you easily set up a substitute. Substitute is also highly synergistic with Absol, as it forces pokemon to attack it directly, giving it guaranteed sucker punches. Against many bulkier teams, their only switchin to Absol will be Granbull, and that is why iron tail is recommended as coverage. Zen headbutt and play rough let it hit the plethora of fighting types in the tier, as well as being a reliable way to hit opponents in case you are unsure if they will activate sucker punch or not. Leftovers provide even more pressure for the enemy to try to break Absol’s substitute as if they don't break the substitute absol will get free healing for more substitutes. If set up a swords dance, iron tail will cleanly 2HKO Granbull after intimate, and with slight chip and rocks damage, it can OHKO.

+1 252 Atk Absol Iron Tail vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Granbull: 282-334 (73.6 - 87.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

This Absol set capitalizes into putting opponents into 60/30s as absol can either set up swords dance or a substitute, and if both are set up the game is pretty much already won. This set is best used as a mid-game revenge killer or a late-game cleaner since most targets will be worn down or offensively weak.

Heracross @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Sleep Talk
- Double-Edge
- Megahorn

As I was getting tired of ladder players mindlessly clicking spore on Breloom, I decided to teach these people a lesson they will forever remember.

The product is none other than this all-out-attacking banded guts Heracross.

Resisting any stab moves that Breloom can throw as us, we can come in and threaten back with our 120 BP moves. If the opponent dares to spore as we bring our insect warrior into the field, it's now our turn to mindlessly click our sleep talk button to claim a kill, since finding a switch-in to a guts boosted choice band attack is near impossible, even if they somehow see it coming. To put this into context, with rocks up even max defense Clefable will have 99% chance to be 2HKO after protect and leftovers recovery, and most variants of Gliscor also will not survive.

Although arguably less reliable than the flame orb variant, the increase in wall breaking power more than makes up for it. In a meta where Heatran runs flame body instead of flash fire, this actually works in our flavor. I have also found that coming in on a rotom clicking wisp is often a game winning move, making this Heracross set very rewarding and satisfying to use.

Flygon
Flygon @ Soft Sand / Dragon Fang
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- U-turn
- Dragon Dance

-BDSP UU

Flygon is one of, if not the most defining pokemon in UU. It's most common set by far is choice scarf, as it easily revenge kills the biggest threats in the meta, such as Entei and Porygon Z. It's biggest compliment to this job is u-turn. U-turn lets this flygon easily bluff a scarf set, meaning that walls like milotic will never falter swapping in, as they are rarely even 3HKO'd by scarf sets. This set however, aims to u-turn in the early game, which pretty much confirms to the opponent that it's scarf. This is also due to Flygon's great matchup againt the common stealth rockers in the tier, such as Metagross and Registeel. This matchup spread lets flygon easily force out switches right from the lead, which will 'confirm' to the opponent that youre scarf as you should almost always u-turn on the lead. The goal of this Flygon is to make the opponent think it's scarf in the earlygame, and dragon dance in the lategame, causing for an easy sweep, as common walls will most likely be chipped and unable to handle a +1 Flygon. Soft sand or dragon fang allow you to do immense damage with a stab of your choice, but soft sand is preffered as you dont have to lock into earthquake as opposed to outrage.

Crawdaunt @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Ice Beam
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb

Hi, this set is for BDSP OU. Ik it's a little standard, but this one runs Ice Beam instead of Crabhammer. It's particularly fun vs. stall or defensive teams where they rely on knowing which Pokémon their walls can handle, because it's so easy to net more than a 1-1 tradeoff with this set. There isn't that much that would die from the Crabhammer set that isn't dying from this one. One thing I've been doing with it to make it unlikely to predict is using Crawdaunt as a perceptibly last-resort burn sponge. You just click Knock Off through the early game, then once burned opponents sometimes switch in things to setup bc they're no longer in 2HKO range, esp. during the late-game. A situation I've found a lot is being able to take a burn then still be able to 1hko stuff like Garchomp w/ Ice Beam (+ maybe one jet, but that's only 1 turn of chip instead of 2-3)—who is typically a good candidate for this bc it resists the expected Sludge Bomb. Super fun set to use in the margins of a game. Definitely recommend trying it. :)

first forums post hope i did it right thx bye
