The Format

With Series 2 being rather short, we're doing shorter analyses with a different format than you may be used to! Additionally, we've taken feedback from Series 1, and have changed up the previous analysis format a bit, to make them easier to scan and update! Below, here's a "sample" analysis, and the actual onsite Baxcalibur and Garchomp analyses below it!

Sample Analysis

[SET]
name: Let's a go!
move 1: High Jump Kick
move 2: Dynamax Cannon
move 3: Victory Dance
move 4: Fire Punch / Ice Punch
item: Life Orb / Safety Goggles
ability: Shadow Tag / Arena Trap
nature: Jolly
tera type: Flying / Fire
evs: 252 HP / 84 Def / 172 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

* Use the first bullet for the most important part: quickly explain the main selling point of this set!

* **Label your bullet points!**: Anything after the first bullet point should be labeled. If you're justifying a move, then name the bullet point after the move. If it's about an single EV spread, important mechanic, or teammate, then come up with a label that best describes the topic!

* **No need to talk about obvious stuff**: If a move is obvious, there's no reason to give it a bullet. No reason to say "use High Jump Kick and Dynamax Cannon for STAB". Only mention them if its something that isn't self explanatory!

* **Fire Punch versus Ice Punch**: Move choices can be worth a bullet too. For example if Ice Punch lets this Pokemon cover Dragonite, while Fire Punch beats Gholdengo, that is worth mentioning. use "versus" to get the point across that you're picking between certain moves.

* **Mario's Goomba Stomp Strategy**: Not every Pokemon needs this, but if there's a REALLY specific and important thing to say about a Pokemon, you can label it in a descriptive way. Think stuff like needing neutral natures + mints for trick.

Other Options
========

* **Put viable moves that don't fit on the moveset here**: Other Options is finally back! This is for moves that do exist / are viable, but are tough to fit in for whatever reason. Feel free to describe why the move can be harder to justify too.

* **Not everyone Pokemon needs this section!**: If you listed all the viable stuff, no need to scrape the bottom of the barrel, just don't include this section then!

Tera Types
========

* **Flying**: Except to see this one a LOT! Tera Types are very important in this metagame, so almost every Pokemon will have this section, especially if the tera type is not baked into the set such as "Normal Dragonite for Extreme Speed" kind of stuff.

* **Fire**: Even if a Pokemon isn't getting at Tersastallizing, most Pokemon will still want this section, just because the nature of the mechanic can lead to weird situations happening in a match.

* **Fighting**: Some Pokemon have a LOT of viable tera options, including more niche ones to consider. Sometimes, QC might ask you to include these without slashing them in the set.

EV Spreads
========

* **252 HP / 84 Def / 172 SpD with Careful**: If a Pokemon has a rather non obvious EV spread, explaining it is generally worth it!

* **252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe with Careful**: Generally, only list 252 / 252 spreads if the Pokemon has multiple EV builds. Otherwise, those tend to be pretty obvious, and don't need any writing at all!

For Pokemon that have choices in other areas to make, these sections can also be included!

Here are two examples that are onsite: Baxcalibur and Garchomp!

[SET]
name: Sweeper
move 1: Icicle Spear
move 2: Glaive Rush
move 3: Dragon Dance
move 4: Earthquake / Tera Blast / Ice Shard
item: Life Orb / Loaded Dice / Focus Sash
ability: Thermal Exchange
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
tera type: Dragon / Electric / Ice

[SET COMMENTS]

* With good bulk, an immunity to burn, and just enough Speed to work, Baxcalibur is a powerful sweeper.

* **Icicle Spear**: Icicle Spear KOes Breloom and Mimikyu through Focus Sash and Disguise respectively.

* **Glaive Rush**: While Glaive Rush is valuable for late-game sweeping, it does make Baxcalibur very vulnerable to bulky OHKO move users such as Dondozo and Garganacl.

* **Ice Shard**: Ice Shard means Baxcalibur will have a difficult time breaking past bulky Steel-types early-game, but it makes it an effective cleaner otherwise.

Other Options
========

* **Swords Dance**: Dragon Dance is the more reliable option for sweeping due to Baxcalibur's Speed, but Swords Dance can be paired with Ice Shard and an Adamant nature to OHKO fast, frail foes such as Booster Energy Flutter Mane.

Tera Types
========

* **Dragon**: This makes Glaive Rush deal obscene damage and removes weaknesses to Mach Punch and Bullet Punch.

* **Electric**: When paired with Tera Blast, this is Life Orb Baxcalibur's best shot at dealing damage to Dondozo switch-ins. The paralysis immunity also helps Baxcalibur set up against Chansey with less risk.

* **Ice**: Tera Ice works great with Swords Dance and Ice Shard, making Baxcalibur easier to clean teams with.

* **Steel**: With a Tera type of Steel, Baxcalibur can set up on Mimikyu and Dragon-type attacks.

Items
========

* **Life Orb**: This helps Baxcalibur sweep reliably and ensures Icicle Spear OHKOes Breloom through Focus Sash.

* **Loaded Dice**: With a guaranteed 4 hits from Icicle Spear, Baxcalibur is able to always OHKO offensive Mimikyu after Dragon Dance.

* **Focus Sash**: Focus Sash may seem like a waste with Baxcalibur's bulk, but it provides new set up opportunities and eases match-ups against other Dragon-types.

[SET]
name: All-Out Attacker
move 1: Icicle Spear
move 2: Ice Shard
move 3: Glaive Rush / Tera Blast
move 4: Earthquake / Tera Blast
item: Assault Vest / Choice Band
ability: Thermal Exchange
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
tera type: Ground / Electric / Ice

[SET COMMENTS]

* Baxcalibur's bulk and the wonderful Ice Shard means it doesn't need to set-up to become a powerful threat.

* **Icicle Spear**: Icicle Spear is recommended despite its inconsistent damage, as it deals damage through Mimikyu's disguise and potentially KOes Focus Sash users like Breloom and Meowscarada.

* **Glaive Rush**: Glaive Rush makes Baxcalibur very vulnerable to getting KOed the next turn, but it is still the least risky Dragon-type STAB move. Remember that Ice Shard will remove Glaive Rush's negative effects as well.

Tera Types
========

* **Ground**: A Ground Tera type gives Baxcalibur a reliable STAB move in Earthquake, resistance to Stealth Rock, and removes a ton of weaknesses, all at the cost of losing to Water-types such as Rotom-W and Iron Bundle.

* **Electric**: With Tera Electric, Baxcalibur's Tera Blast deals massive damage to Corviknight that lack a set up move, Azumarill, does good chip damage to Dondozo, and gains a valuable resistance to Gholdengo's Make It Rain.

* **Ice**: Boosting the power of Ice Shard gives Choice Band Baxcalibur new revenge kill chances, and makes wall breaking with Icicle Spear easier.

Items
========

* **Assault Vest**: Baxcalibur's bulk makes it an excellent user of Assault Vest, making it particularly effective against Rotom formes and Iron Bundle.

* **Choice Band**: With Choice Band, Baxcalibur becomes an immediate threat, threatening to 2HKO physical walls such as Dondozo.

EV Spreads
========

* **252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe with Adamant**: This simple EV spread maximizes Baxcalibur's bulk and power.

* **116 HP / 252 Atk / 140 Spe with Jolly**: The Speed investment here outspeeds Modest Gholdengo and Adamant Dragonite.

* **4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe with Jolly**: If using Choice Band, winning Speed ties against Great Tusk and opposing Baxcalibur makes maximum Speed much more appealing.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance Sweeper
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Outrage / Dragon Claw
move 4: Fire Fang / Tera Blast
item: Life Orb / Lum Berry / Mirror Herb
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
tera type: Steel / Fairy / Fire

[SET COMMENTS]

* The classic Swords Dance sweeper is still a big threat, thanks to its good bulk, unique Speed tier, and excellent use of Terastallization.

* **Outrage versus Dragon Claw**: Outrage is by far Garchomp's strongest STAB move, but the lock-in effect makes it very vulnerable to Fairy-types such as Mimikyu.

* **Fire Fang versus Tera Blast**: Despite its low base power, Fire Fang is Garchomp's best shot at breaking past Corviknight after a Swords Dance. If Garchomp is almost always Terastallized on your team, Tera Blast can be used instead.

Tera Types
========

* **Steel**: A Steel Tera type has excellent synergy with Garchomp's typing, letting it more effectively tackle faster Dragon-types, Iron Bundle, Mimikyu, and Ice Shard from the likes of Baxcalibur and Cloyster.

* **Fairy**: Fairy is an even stronger option against Dragon-types, and gives Garchomp a better matchup against Great Tusk.

* **Fire**: While the Stealth Rock weakness is unfortunate against bulkier teams, a Fire Tera type lets Life Orb Garchomp OHKO Corviknight with a +2 Fire Fang 93.8% of the time.

* **Ground**: While the defensive synergy with Garchomp's former typing isn't that strong, a Ground Tera type lets Garchomp become more of a hit-and-run attacker with Earthquake, dealing good damage to Dondozo before being forced out by Yawn.

Items
========

* **Life Orb**: This is the best option for damage output.

* **Lum Berry**: Lum Berry lets Garchomp deal with major status users more easily, such as Dragapult and Breloom.

* **Mirror Herb**: Mirror Herb gives Garchomp the potential to severely punish set-up sweepers such as Dragapult and Dragonite, with the right Tera type.

* **Focus Sash**: Surviving shocking attacks with Focus Sash gives Garchomp new sweeping and revenge killing potential.

[SET]
name: Entry Hazard Setter
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Earthquake / Bulldoze
move 4: Dragon Tail / Tera Blast
item: Sitrus Berry / Rocky Helmet
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Impish / Jolly
evs: 188 HP / 236 Def / 84 Spe
tera type: Fairy / Steel

[SET COMMENTS]

* While Garchomp is known for its offensive prowess, it can also support its teammates with entry hazards and phazing.

* **Earthquake versus Bulldoze**: Bulldoze brings utility against Choice Scarf and naturally fast grounded opponents, but its lower Base Power makes Garchomp more passive against bulkier Pokemon.

* **Dragon Tail**: Dragon Tail has marvelous synergy with setting up hazards, making it the prime choice for a Dragon-type STAB despite the lowered priority.

* **Fairy Tera Blast**: If using Tera Fairy, this can help Garchomp muscle past Great Tusk, a foe that can threaten to Rapid Spin your hazards away.

Tera Types
========

* **Fairy**: Fairy Tera type provides Garchomp with an immunity to Dragon-type attacks, and is a big help against Great Tusk.

* **Steel**: Terastallizing into a Steel-type makes Garchomp resist Dragon-, Ice- and Fairy-type attacks, making it a safer lead against opposing Dragon-type leads and Iron Bundle, at the cost of being vulnerable to Tera Fire Dragons and Fighting- and Ground-types.

EV spreads
========

* **188 HP / 236 Def / 84 Spe with Impish**: This EV spread lets Garchomp survive Adamant Dragonite's Outrage while also outspeeding it.

* **252 HP / 116 Def / 140 Spe with Jolly**: While this spread doesn't take physical hits as well, it lets Garchomp outspeed Gholdengo, Baxcalibur, Great Tusk, and Rotom-W.

Items
========

* **Sitrus Berry**: This prevents Choice Band Dragapult from OHKOing Garchomp, as it activates after the first hit, and the HP recovered doesn't allow the second one to get the KO, unless Dragapult is Terastallized into a Dragon-type.

* **Rocky Helmet**: Combined with Rough Skin, Rocky Helmet severely punishes contact moves.

* **Red Card**: With Red Card, Garchomp will be able to phaze foes Terastallizing into a Fairy type once.

[SET]
name: Choice Item
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Dragon Claw
move 3: Outrage
move 4: Tera Blast / Stone Edge / Rock Tomb / Iron Head
item: Choice Band / Choice Scarf
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
tera type: Fire / Steel / Fairy

[SET COMMENTS]

* Garchomp's fantastic Speed tier and power make it a fine Choice item user, especially when it can catch its softer checks off guard, such as Dragapult and Corviknight.

* **Stone Edge versus Rock Tomb**: Stone Edge deals massive damage to common Tera Flying Pokemon such as Gholdengo, and it prevents it from being walled by Tera Fairy Rotom-W. Rock Tomb is fairly weak, but the speed control can be very useful on Choice Scarf variants if sacrificing Garchomp.

* **Iron Head**: With Tera Steel, Iron Head lets Garchomp beat Tera Fairy Levitate foes such as Rotom-W.

Other Options
========

* **Crunch**: Crunch lets Garchomp deal massive damage to Air Balloon Gholdengo, though it doesn't cover much else.

* **Fire Fang** While weak, this is Garchomp's best option against Corviknight when not Tera Fire.

Tera Types
========

* **Fire**: When combined with Tera Blast, Tera Fire lets even Choice Scarf Garchomp possibly 2HKO Corviknight. The Fairy and Ice resistance is also very helpful.

* **Steel**: Tera Steel is a good defensive alternative to Fire, retaining the useful Stealth Rock resistance and preforming better against Dragon- and Fairy-types.

* **Fairy**: Tera Fairy goes all in on the Dragon-type immunity, and deals with Great Tusk and Flutter Mane better than other Tera types.

* **Ground**: The incredible power boost Earthquake gets from Tera Ground is worth considering, with Choice Band possibly 2HKOing physically defensive Dondozo with it.

Items
========

* **Choice Band**: Choice Band trades revenge killing for wallbreaking, letting Garchomp reliably 2HKO Skeledirge and deal massive damage to Corviknight with Fire-type Tera Blast.

* **Choice Scarf**: With Choice Scarf, Garchomp is able to outspeed and revenge kill key threats, such as Dragapult, Meowscarada, and Choice Specs Iron Moth, making it a potent late-game cleaner as well.

:sv/iron valiant: RESERVATIONS:sv/roaring moon:

When reserving a Pokemon, keep this stuff in mind!

  • You'll have about 1 day to get your analysis to the QC stage when its reserved, and it won't be extended unless you have a good reason! You'll also have 24 hours to implement any checks from QC. Once the analysis is in the Copyediting stage, you can reserve another.

  • While you are free to do all the sets in a Pokemon's analysis, you DON'T have to! For some very versatile Pokemon such as Scream Tail, doing all the sets can be quite troublesome, so feel free to just reserve SOME sets of 1 Pokemon! That being said, please only reserve 1 Pokemon at a time!

  • REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT OU! OU and Battle Stadium Singles are drastically different metagames, even if they sometimes share similar casts of threats. If your analysis looks like its written with OU in mind, it'll be reassigned right away!

  • Each Pokemon up for reservation will have sample sets, it's a good idea to follow those! This doesn't mean QC won't request more changes though.

  • Once your analysis is posted, it needs 1 QC check and 1 GP check for it to go onsite! You need to make the changes QC and GP request of you to get stuff onsite!

  • If a totally new set gains traction in the Pokemon discussion, we'll put the set up for reservation here. Reserve it, and simply make a new thread for it!

If you want to see what's done so far, check out the Battle Stadium Singles Series 2 Page, which lists everything that has sets onsite on the bottom!

* notes: i'm not actually writing this but i can help whoever ends up taking it

* tera: not 100%. this thing can benefit from a lot of tera types theoretically, even normal for boomburst damage, but that's what the 2 highest rated dudunsparce players use. its good for more damage on boomburst resists, ground can mess with magnezone and other volt switch users, while fire can be used alongside glare against specs volcarona. fairy steel prob good mentions for the resists, normal for damage

* evs always live timid specs draco from hydra

* can run more physical bulk to reliably live cb dragon hits without tera, but the benchmarks start compromising damage too much imo

move descriptions:

* boomburst big damage, kinda 2hkos everything

* ice beam chunks dragons, ohkos chomp most of the time

* flamethrower slash ep slot hits steels, ft can hit tera steel hydreigon and scizor harder

* ep hits steels too but also covers clod and skele. 20 percent sdef drop with serene grace can help it break things it has no business beating

* glare and sr are good self explanatory utility options. yawn might be worth mentioning but i think you're better off just attacking. at least glare lets you get a hit off after crippling whatever it hit

* sitrus berry good vs scarf gholdengo. the extra hp can help it forcing people into unfavorable positions cause opponent has to go through a bigger hp pool instead of sending whatever to revenge kill

OK birthday fun is over. I decided that the most nasty shock to reality would be the analysis I'm dreading the most...

I'm finally done with Scream Tail! But, Scream Tail is NOT done with us, because we have another set up for reservation: Wish!

:scream tail: Scream Tail (Wish Support)

[SET]
name: Wish Support
move 1: Encore
move 2: Wish
move 3: Protect
move 4: Dazzling Gleam / Perish Song
item: Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
tera type: Steel / Fairy / Normal
ability: Protosynthesis
Nature: Timid
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

After that nightmare of doing Scream Tail AND getting sick, I think I need a return to simple, cave man times (and not whatever the hell Scream Tail's version is lmao).

I'll get to worshiping Great Tusk!

So, I got Great Tusk done fast and could use some stimulation while I try to figure out my Pokemon team stuff, so... I guess I'll just keep on reserving mons till QC is asleep, blame my bad sleep schedule from getting sick!

Time for me to do Swords Dance Scizor!

I always feel sorta bad for Rotom-H when I do a Rotom-W analysis... I'll cook up a quick one for Defensive Rotom-H!

From talks in the analysis discussion thread and Discord, Curse Garganacl will now get its own set for reservation!

:garganacl: Curse Garganacl

[SET]
name: Curse
move 1: Curse
move 2: Salt Cure
move 3: Recover
move 4: Earthquake
item: Leftovers / Sitrus Berry
ability: Purifying Salt
nature: Careful
tera type: Water / Ghost / Flying
evs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe

I'll probably do this if no one reserves it in about 6 hours or so. But for now, its up for grabs!

(Also, a decison on Iroha's Sharp Beak Dragonite will come later, I'm not sure if any of us have tested it yet, but I know I will be trying it tonight at least)

EDIT as of Feb 25th: Guess no one wants to do it, so I guess I will lol.

I guess I'll do BU Palafin now, I need something to do while this blizzard turns my internet into swiss cheese!

So, I have built and offline-written a new set for Palafin, but I'm not sure of how to post it. Should I put it right here, create a new post in this same forum...? Thanks!
