All Gens ALT PL I - Commencement & Administrative Decisions Thread

:bw/Smeargle: Dr. M-ALT-ntis's Useless Stats Vol. 1 :bw/Metang:

The ALT PL Draft is less than 12 hours away. Now that signups are closed, here are the final numbers for signups in each tier:

:Kyogre: ADV Ubers - 61 total signups: ADV Ubers appears to be a very popular tier - and with good reason, as I quite enjoy it as well. While a large pool is good for managers, it means the actual starting lineup for ADV Ubers will surely be quite competitive with only 6 actual starting slots. The ADV Ubers field is certainly shaping up to be an all time great compilation of players.

:Linoone: ADV UU - 60 total signups: ADV UU comes in at second place with 60 total signups, just barely under ADV Ubers. This is a bit surprising considering the fact that this tour is acting as an unofficial test for Jumpluff + Arena Trap - which means most players will need to build fresh teams to take all things into account for this season. But ADV UU is still great, my favorite tier actually, and I look forward to seeing how these games play out.

:Glalie: ADV NU - 56 total signups: I guess ADV is very popular! Ubers, UU, and NU for ADV take the top 3 slots for signups, with NU having quite a bit of big names looking to get some hot and cold Glalie action going on. There is likely a lot of overlap between ADV NU and UU signups, but with 56 total for ADV NU the regular season starting pool is going to most definitely be a good one.

:Lapras: RBY UU - 55 total signups: RBY UU was so close to breaking up the ADV trifecta at the top, but was 1 sign up shy of doing so. The RBY UU pool, however, looks extremely and ridiculously stacked, with nearly all 55 signups being high quality RBY UU players. And with Lapras now in the tier, there are sure to be some fresh teams being let loose this season as the tier continues to develop. Still expect lots of Tenta wrapping though.

:Granbull: GSC UU - 52 total signups: GSC UU comes out as the most popular GSC tier with 52 signups, as it enters only its second tour since the agili-pass ban. When Shuckle stalls meet Scyther SD passes, which will ultimately come out on top? Luckily there's enough high quality talent in the pool to answer this question as the season progresses.

:Mewtwo: RBY Ubers - 48 total signups: As we finally dip to the tiers with under 50 signups, we arrive at RBY Ubers. Many in this pool are also very good at other tiers, so the 48 total may in reality be a much smaller number practically speaking. There is a TON of overlap between RBY Ubers and RBY UU players luckily, and since the RBY UU pool is so stacked, I envision some of those players to take on the Ubers mantle for the season.

:Moltres: RBY NU - 46 total signups: With Poliwhirl just banned less than 24 hours ago, a new RBY NU is looking to see some further development post-NUSD. While a Poliwhirl-free tour has already happened, there is still lots to be explored here and the players in the RBY NU pool are mostly mainers who are eager to push their favorite tier to new heights as the season goes on.

:Xatu: GSC NU - 45 total signups: While the GSC NU pool has almost the same amount of players as the RBY NU pool, a close look at it will tell you that it's actually very shallow. Many of the signups here list GSC NU as a second, third, or fourth option. There are some mainers there for sure - certainly enough to round out 6 starting slots - but those same players could be called on for other tiers, and as such I fully expect the starting 6 GSC NU players in Week 1 to be a bit different/shuffled from the starting 6 GSC NU players in Week 5

:Metagross: ADV DOU - 42 total signups: I'm not sure this tier has ever been included a team tour so I have no clue what to expect. There were actually a good number of signups listing this as their only tier, meaning interest is definitely there for doubles players. While solo tours and money tours have been had, seeing this in action from a team perspective is going to be a real treat for mons lovers and doubles lovers alike.

:Lugia: GSC Ubers - 39 total signups: I don't know what happened here - I tend to enjoy GSC Ubers quite a bit, but it got the least amount of signups out of any tier. There are definitely some big names there nonetheless, and with only 6 teams I am absolutely positive the games will be high quality all around with more than 6 starting caliber players in the pool. I think it will actually be on of the most competitive.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. I'll have more random useless stats at some random useless time during this random season.

:sv/Scyther: THE OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL ALT PL I POWER RANKINGS :sv/Primeape:
Sponsored by Taco Bell - think outside the bun

After 10 years of debate and 3 global conflicts, the ALT Committee of Power Rankings (est. 1972) has finally released the ALT PL I Rankings! These are based on scientific data, meaning I just sort of eyeballed it and put numbers in a spreadsheet but it looks ok. Individual tiers are mostly based on Week 1 starters which may affect some rankings negatively if a benched player is their real superstar. So without further delay, here we are:

#1: Criminal Cradilys :sv/Cradily:

Raw Score: 38
RBY Score: 13
GSC Score: 12
ADV Score: 13

It's no surprise that Amaranth is a wizard at drafting a competitive team, but he may have outdone himself with the squad he has now. The Cradilys are actually not the best at any of the 3 individual gen categories, but they are solidly built from top to bottom with no apparent weakness. Fc/pokemonisfun/Nicole7735 are all great RBY players, and they'll have the support of both Amaranth and emma which is pretty elite in itself. Monai and Real FV13 are top tier GSC starters while Amaranth holds down GSC Ubers. HANTSUKI has proven to be solid at ADV NU while LBN is always a solid Ubers player and can surely handle ADV Ubers just fine, and then Parpar is an ADV UU superhero going like 8-1 in UUFPL and 7-1 in UUSD or something like that. Don't know much about raisedintyo for ADV DOU but that entire tier is a wild card this tour. They have great support and a top notch bench. I wouldn't rank any of their individual starters #1 in any of their starting tiers, yet collectively they are a behemoth of a team to face all around with nothing coming easy.

-

#2: Shuckle Soldiers :sv/Shuckle:

Raw Score: 36
RBY Score: 9
GSC Score: 12
ADV Score: 15

The soldiers have lined up in formation near the top of the rankings. While they are tied for the worst RBY score (which is still not bad because the entire tour is just that good at RBY), they make up for it with excellence in the other two tiers, with Mr.378 being able to support basically all non-RBY tiers and vani additionally strengthening their entire GSC unit. Their strongest point is clearly their Ubers players - Isa is by far the best GSC Ubers in the tier, and Mr.378 is right there too for support. Raph369 is a top tier ADV Ubers player alone, but that wasn't enough for the Soldiers so they additionally have MMII to support. And Eledyr is an elite RBY Ubers player in their own right. The rest of their RBY is a bit shaky, as phoopes is great but still lacks deep tour success in RBY UU, and Diannie is more of a GSC NU player though still just fine in RBY. They also don't seem to have much (if any) RBY support. ADV is rock solid all around though with shiloh and 378 topping out NU/UU, and Concept Everything being a solid player (though again ADV DOU a big wild card tier). MTB is also solid at GSC and their GSC Support is great but I was pretty sure Alkione hated GSC UU so we'll see how that goes and maybe he can convert.

-

#3 (tie): Trailblazer Torchics :sv/Torchic:

Raw Score: 35
RBY Score: 13
GSC Score: 7
ADV Score: 15

The 3 AM draft turned out to be a good one for Torchic and gorex. Torchic benching himself Week 1 may have cost them a point or two in the PRs, but they still have one of the strongest RBY and ADV cores without him. Enigami, Shellnuts, and iKiQ as starters creates rock solid RBY lineup that allows Torchic to eventually slide into any other tier that's underperforming for GSC or ADV without issue. The combo of ArcticBreezee and JabbaTheGriffin for ADV makes them pretty lethal in that department as well, while Stockings should be great at NU. And while ADV DOU is always a wild card, Memoric is not and will surely perform at a high level throughout the season. Their GSC and GSC support is very lacking though - romanji is good but not really proven at GSC UU yet through any tour success. BeeOrSomething is also good but a bit behind the rest of the GSC NU pool as it's quite stacked. Rhmsitb should be just fine in Ubers though, and if they can drum up some positive production out of UU and NU then they're going to be an extremely dangerous team.

-

#3 (tie): Permafrozen Piloswines :sv/Piloswine:

Raw Score: 35
RBY Score: 10
GSC Score: 13
ADV Score: 12

With a 34 Raw Score, it would just take 2 points to make the Piloswines go from #4 to #2, so these rankings are very very very close all around. Avarice and Estarossa's team has come out on top of the GSC Rankings though with the highest score in that category, and with good reason. The combination of estarossa + LpZ in GSC UU/NU is completely unmatched. Kenny isn't really proven at GSC Ubers but also isn't bad, and the Piloswines have an extremely deep bench and support system with multiple great players that could also slot into there. They have a good RBY and ADV structure too, though not elite like their GSC. Fourmi is a great ADV Ubers player that will be just fine, Grandmas Cookin is probably one of the best ADV DOU options, and Cam and kael are just overall great players but may need some team support for UU and NU. Stunner and Unowndragon anchoring their RBY Ubers/UU makes their RBY very respectable, and Togkey is a fine player but may need team support also. Overall they have more than enough to make a championship push for the Grand Prix at the end of the season.

-

#5: Slay Queen Snorlaxes :sv/Snorlax:

Raw Score: 31
RBY Score: 14
GSC Score: 7
ADV Score: 10

The Snorlaxes are actually very good and this ranking is more of a result of their Week 1 Lineup than their overall potential. Even still, the Snorlaxes captured the #1 overall RBY score with an unbelievable RBY core group of players and even better RBY support. Paulluxx, volk, and Sabelette are all mainers in their tiers who know those tiers as well as (or better than) anyone else. And you have ct0wn additionally supporting, SaDiSTiCNarwhal supporting while on the bench or playing ADV, and I am sure they have plenty of undrafted helpers in the disc as well. Their GSC is not THAT bad - Inder is obviously great at GSC Ubers, and F1shingrod is just fine. I don't really know much about giraffefromholland though and looking at their bench they actually don't seem to have much GSC support or even many other GSC options. Their ADV score is extremely skewed because they benched Bughouse for Week 1, otherwise it'd likely be higher as Ara is not really an ADV NU specialist though a decent overall player. Zoe is a great pickup for ADV DOU that knows that tier as well as anyone could hope. Don't know much about Mad Dawg really in ADV Ubers but Narwhal is also an option to start there. RampageWebber was great at ADV UU a year ago or so, so we'll see how he adapts to the recent changes. To sum it up, the Snorlaxes are an elite RBY team that will need to solidify their GSC and ADV plan as the season goes on to be able to make a run at the chip.

-

#6: Top Percentage Rattatas :sv/Rattata:

Raw Score: 29
RBY Score: 9
GSC Score: 8
ADV Score: 12

The Rattatas aren't bad, but they submitted their Week 1 lineup last so I said I would rank them last because of it. But despite that they also aren't exactly Top Percentage - in fact, only Heysup and Ice Yazu are top percentage players in their respective tiers. The rest of the lineup is going to have to overcome some adversity (which is entirely possible) to make it to the final dance. A 9 score in RBY is tied for worst but their RBY isn't that bad - Ice Yazu is great, and royzin is fine. CollectorEly is ok but the RBY Ubers pool is way ahead of them so it may be difficult to churn out some wins there. They don't really have much RBY Support either other than Frrf supporting Ubers. For GSC corvere is a superstar and chub is good with Oathkeeper able to provide any sort NU support (or even play it himself if needed). DugZa is a UU Classic Finalist but is going to need ample team support as their primary GSC UU option, and I'm just not sure if they have this support available. MrSoup can provide some support but he's more of an NU support option than UU. For ADV, Heysup is the best in the pool and also the most expensive player in the draft but with good reason in a new testing meta. Oathkeeper is better at GSC NU than ADV NU though, and innovamania can play ADV Ubers but the ADV Ubers pool is also quite daunting. Spitfire Arcanine plays every single weird PL ever and will certainly get at least 2 wins this season no matter how they come. I think the Rattatas are fine but they need to sort out their lineup to maximize its potential, and this is something that will have to be figured out as the seasson goes on.

:bw/Articuno: PLAYOFFS ANNOUNCEMENT :bw/Altaria:

The playoffs have begun for ALT PL I, and there are few things to note:

1. The Tier Lock is no longer in place - there is no tier lock for any remaining playoff series or tiebreaks.
2. Speaking of tiebreaks, the Tiebreak Rules are as follows: In the event of a tiebreaker, both teams will select 1 tier each to be played in the tie breaker. The last tier can be determined by agreement from the managers on what tier to play, and if no agreement can be reached, each team will eliminate 2 of the remaining tiers each, leaving 4 remaining tiers in which one of the four for the third tiebreak game will be randomly decided.

Congratulations to the MrSoup innovamania and the Top Percentage Rattatas on being the #1 seed and receiving an automatic slot in the Finals next week. Good luck Amaranth emma Torchic gorex and all the Criminal Cradilys and Trailblazer Torchics in the semifinals this week!
