Lower Tiers ADV NU Metagame Discussion.

https://pokepast.es/dea9288021510f97 My best ADV NU teams that I have used in tournament play.
https://pokepast.es/d9540f12a88c51b6 Unused Experimental Teams.

If anyone needs teams for anything ADV NU related. I highly recommend checking out the first pastebin.
They are great for anyone who wants to learn more about the tier.

The 2nd paste are only ideas that never got used, who knows there might be a gem in there.

Pikachu + Sub Pass Flareon
:pikachu: + :flareon:
Pikachu @ Light Ball
Ability: Static
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Substitute
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Flareon @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 8 HP / 84 Def / 192 SpA / 224 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
This a very good offensive core in adv nu. The idea is to scare something out with Flareon, sub up and use baton pass as a water types comes to bring in Pikachu easily. Pikachu easily beats pokemon like Wailord, Dewgong and Torkoal that annoy Flareon. Both these pokemon greatly appreciate spikes. Mawile is a good partner for both as it checks fast pokemon that threaten to RK the duo such as Raticate, Pidgeot, Murkrow, Crobat etc. Baton Pass support helps brinng in both the frail breakers more easily too. Diglett is appreciated to help with Bellossom, Minun and opposing Flareon.
Note: This core can be replicated with Plusle, but it's much weaker in terms of damage output than Pikachu.
Here's a few replays of it doing well:

Underrated pokemon(in my opinion)
This section is on underrated pokemon and how i think they can be better utilised.
1. Pikachu
This thing should be paired with Baton Pass pivots like Flareon and Mawile. Spikes support is also appreciated greatly. It's two biggest issues are it's inability to switchin and complete lack of defensive utility. However, it's frightening power makes up for that easily. For example, it achieves feats such as 0hkoing offensive Wailord and 2hkoing Roselia after 1 layer of spikes. It is high on VR, but not high enough in my opinion.
2. Physically Defensive Mawile
It takes on normal and flying types like CB Raticate, Crobat, Pidgeot and Murkrow with aplomb. Intimidate softens coverage moves like HP Ground, meaning at best the pokemon it checks barely 4hko it. Protect means it's much harder to wear down as well. Baton Pass means it's no momentum sink and can fit on offense reasonably well. It's one of the most resilient normal and flying resists in the tier. Chimecho and Pelipper pair well with it to help it's fighting and ground weaknesses. It's also a great Diglett and Pikachu partner.

This is the metagame where raticate is actually good in, right? Always has been one of my favourite mons so it is good to see it perform somewhere. Anyone here possibly have any tournament replays and such where raticate goes in?

Yes, Raticate is quite good in ADV NU. I'll link a good handful of games from this NUPL which just wrapped up a couple of days ago.
Here are all of the rats in the tour, I'll specifically mark any games where rat did well:

Week 1 replays, rat did decent in both replays:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3nu-692982
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3nu-693629

Not used by anyone in week 2

Week 3 replay (but they got instantly crit by a pikachu lol):
https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-gen3nu-1876536046-oett3hxm2uvsca9n522ho7wsi3igjhgpw

Week 4 replays
Good rat replay: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3nu-696178

Week 5 replays:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3nu-697328
Good rat replay https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3nu-698227

Week 6 replay:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3nu-698732

Semifinals replay:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3nu-701742

I used raticate as my last in semis, but I didn't need to reveal it. But the team was based around weakening all of rat's checks for an end-game sweep.

And rat wasn't used in finals by me or SEA
---------------------------------------------------------
Rat is very popular in the tier. He runs about 3 different sets typically. A choice bander with double edge or return, shadow ball, hidden power ground, quick attack. A silk scarf user that bluffs choice band and runs the same moveset. Or a reversal sweeper that runs substitute, return, shadow ball, reversal and holds liechi berry. Raticate typically is used to clean up weakened teams; which is helped by the fact that he has the best speed stat unboosted in the tier and can OHKO Haunter which a lot of players save into the late-game. Choice band is less of a sweeper and more of a mid-game anti-Haunter mon and breaker. As far as the sets go, choice band is probably the most likely to go wrong, since if the opponent has a sableye or relicanth it won't get very far. But in certain matchups, like metang + haunter teams it can do well. If you want to learn the tier and play games with people, think about joining my discord: https://discord.gg/muheMTaJvg . It inactive during the NUPL seasons, but now that it is over I will be more active on it.

Thanks for the reply, I am not much of a player and more just a viewer and a reader but I still appreciate the information. I like raticate since it reminds me of my beloved pet rats who are all now unfortunately dead, since they dont live long. But perhaps this fact may give people a reason to try raticate more. And in turn people may realize how amazing rats are even if it just a pokemon. (”Mouse pokemon”)

I suppose this is the tier for rat lovers since Pikachu is pretty good as well, and so are Plusle/Minun. I'm sorry to hear about your pet rats <3
