FAQ:
1. What are Seasonals?

Seasonals are the most straightforward of our tournaments and serve as the flagship tournaments for the DOU Circuit. They are large, double elimination tournaments that generally take around 14-15 weeks to fully finish. Each round you will be paired up with an opponent and play a Bo3 SV Doubles OU set, during which you will be allowed to switch teams between games. Seasonals will be held in the Winter (January) and Fall (August). These tournaments will be seeded as well; Winter Seasonals will use the final 2022 Circuit standings to seed its entrants, while Fall Seasonals will use the current 2023 Circuit standings.

2. What is Doubles Ladder Tournament?
In this tournament, people will be signing up to ladder for a full week to rank as high as possible. The highest ranking finishers may earn a spot in the playoffs. This cycle will continue for four weeks and culminate in a single elimination, best-of-three playoff for all qualifiers. There will be four laddering periods, with four participants from each qualifying for a 16-man playoff. As always, these qualifiers will be decided by ELO at the end of the laddering period. There will be no wild card entrants or byes in playoffs.

3. What is Doubles Classic?
Doubles Classic will function similarly to the Smogon Classic. It will consist of four separate single elimination tournaments played in four different tiers: SS DOU, SM DOU, XY DOU, and BW DOU. Based on their results in these four tournaments, the top 16 players will play out a single elimination playoff consisting of best-of-three sets, with the first game being played in the tier selected by the higher seed, and each subsequent game played in the tier selected by the loser of the previous game. This year, players may claim the bonus CP (2 for the winner, 1 for the finalist) from 2 cups instead of just 1. For example, a player who wins BW Cup and SM Cup will receive 4 points instead of just 2.

4. What is Doubles Homefield?
Homefield will replace Doubles Majors this year, to add another tournament with an oldgen element. The tour will mimic the format of Ubers Homefield. Upon signup, players will select an oldgen Doubles OU tier that is their “homefield” for the rest of the tournament. The tournament will be single elimination, and each matchup will be a best of 3 with the first game played in SV DOU. The next game will be played in the loser of the previous game’s homefield. We are confident Doubles Homefield will be an exciting addition to the circuit.

5. When are all these tournaments happening?
Check the second post in this thread for the circuit schedule!

*Regarding restricting access to tournament matches

In order for access to be restricted to a tournament set, both players must consent (i.e., the default is public room, modjoin off). Furthermore, viewing access to tournament matches may not be restricted in any way in the following scenarios:
  • During or after Top 8 of single elimination tournament brackets, including playoffs of tournaments with a qualifying + playoff component
  • During or after Round 10 of Seasonals
  • At any point during Doubles Premier League
  • At any point during Doubles Invitationals
Restricted viewing access is defined as enabling any setting that prevents someone from accessing the room without an invitation or direct link. This includes but is not limited to: enabling modjoin, hiding the room, or using ionext. In other words, someone needs to be able to click on your name on Pokemon Showdown and see the battle room. If a game is accidentally modjoined via ionext, there will be no penalty if modjoin is turned off before team preview ends.

Any games with restricted access under the specified scenarios will be considered invalid and must be replayed. For example, Player A wins game 1 of a set, then modjoins game 2 and wins game 2. Game 2 will not be counted and must be replayed for the set to be complete.

Anyone found to be abusing the rule (e.g. hiding a room when you know you'll lose so it will be invalid) will be punished severely.

We're looking forward to another great year of tournaments, hope to see you join!

Signups for Seasonals and the four cups within Doubles Classic will be posted 1 week before the listed date, while Doubles Premier League player signups will be posted 1-2 weeks before the listed date. The first date listed for each tournament is the start of Round 1 (or Week 1) of tournament play. The length of each cup within Doubles Classic will be dependent on the number of entrants. If SS Cup concludes before the projected end date, the playoffs of Doubles Classic will immediately follow. All official circuit tournaments will be hosted in the Smogon Metagames Circuits subforum.

From last year, Homefield has replaced Doubles Majors, Doubles Classic has been staggered more with two weeks in between cups, and the tournament has been moved up a few weeks to have less overlap with other tournaments. After consideration, tournament finals will remain best of 3, as opposed to best of 5, in order to stay the same format throughout. There will also be a lower tier minitour occurring in January to February to help develop doubles lower tiers before DPL, so that we can get a better idea of the tiers to see what could be considered for inclusion in DPL.

Due to the decreased size of this year's OSDT compared to last year, the points structure will now be changed as a result. With the difference of an extra round of Swiss required before top cut, which was worth 2 points, this effectively shifts down all the top cut payouts by 2 points, while the Swiss payouts up until that point remain the same. The new points structure is now as follows:

Official Smogon Doubles Tournament:
1st: 20 CP
2nd: 16 CP
3rd-4th: 13 CP
5th-8th: 10 CP
9th-16th: 8 CP
17th-23rd: 6 CP
Out at 6-3: 4 CP
Out at 5-3: 3 CP
Out at 4-3: 2 CP
Out at 3-3: 1 CP

Due to Doubles Homefield having the number of signups requiring a round robin final between 3 finalists, the circuit points structure will be changed, similar to how it is done in other Smogon tournaments. Players will earn the same number of points for winning each round as they would have previously, except for the player that wins the round robin final will be awarded an extra point, to reward winning an extra set. The new circuit points structure is as follows:

Doubles Homefield:
1st: 13 CP
2nd-3rd: 10 CP
4th-6th: 8 CP
7th-12th: 6 CP
13th-24th: 4 CP
25th-48th: 2 CP

With the news that the second DLC, the Indigo Disk, is to arrive on December 14th, the council has decided to not have the DOU 2023 Invitational Tournament take place during a bygone metagame. Instead, the tournament will start on December 17th, and play in the new metagame following the DLC release.

Any potential circuit point tiebreakers to qualify for the invitationals will occur before the 14th and be in the current metagame.

After the conclusion of tiebreakers, now only Invitationals itself remains as the final tour of this year's circuit! Thanks to everybody who participated in and helped run our tournaments this year, where we seen the addition of Doubles Derby and an increased number of oldgens tours, along with another great OSDT. The final circuit standings can be found here thanks to Amaranth. Ties for seeding are broken by win percentage across ALL sets in this year's circuit tours, with there being one tie again which required determining by deepest run:

Note: entrocefalo and zee are both tied for 8th/9th on win percentage, but zee has the deeper run (see main sheet) so takes 8th

The seeds for the 2023 Doubles Invitationals are then as follows:
  1. Yoda2798
  2. Akaru Kokuyo
  3. MADARAAAA
  4. Feyy
  5. Nido-Rus
  6. qsns
  7. Actuarily
  8. zee
  9. entrocefalo
  10. JRL
  11. SMB
  12. bage1
  13. xqiht
  14. raf
  15. Arcticblast
  16. Farfromani
Due to the very quick turnaround from the new DLC being implemented on PS to the start of Invitationals, it was proposed that the start of the tour be pushed back a week to allow more time for tiering action/meta development. Invitationals players thus voted on whether to keep with the date previously mentioned by Actuarily (17th December), or push back a week (to 24th December), with a majority vote in favour being required for a change:

With a strong majority in favour, Invitationals will now start 24th December. If you want a preview on matchups though, they are as follows:
