2022 BSS Tournament Circuit
Year 3 of Sword & Shield Battle Stadium kicks off with the 2022 BSS Circuit! Just like last year, the Showdown portion of the circuit will consist of four tournaments: Open, Ladder Tour, Classic, and Masters. Circuit points (CP) from laddering on cart will continue to be a part of the BSS circuit! While the CP award system has been revamped to be more competitive, monthly results should still be submitted even if you don't make the top 10000 threshold required to receive extra CP beyond the Master Ball minimum as players who submit monthly results consistently can earn bonus CP. The official cartridge tournament has been eliminated; however, friendly comps and PS roomtour series will continue to be available for additional points.

Based on player feedback from last season, double elimination brackets will be returning to this year's PS tournaments. We felt that full losers brackets would give players more incentive to continue playing after an initial loss than the last-life bracket did.

And of course, the circuit wouldn't be complete without Invitationals. Invitationals will follow the same format as last year, with the top 12 in CP totals qualifying and the top 4 receiving a first round bye. The Invitationals winner will earn the coveted BSS circuit ribbon
on their Smogon profile!

INVITATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Player rankings will be determined using CP (Circuit Points). The top 12 players with CP will qualify for the Invitational, with the top 4 getting a round 1 bye.
  • Any tiebreaks necessary to determine byes/top 12/seeding will be decided by highest cartridge score
  • The circuit has a BFL (Best Finish Limit) of 3. Therefore, only your top 3 performances will count towards your ranking. In other words, having one bad tournament does not negatively impact you directly. Your highest cartridge result counts as a tournament finish and will contribute to your BFL if it results in more CP than one of your PS tournament results.
  • Point structure:
    • Showdown Tournaments
      • Players will earn the amount of CP equivalent to the last round that they won in before getting eliminated, not including activity wins. A loss in the Winner's Bracket will count as a win in the Loser's bracket for that round. For example, if you lose in Round 6 in Winner's Bracket, and lose in Round 7 of Loser's Bracket, you will get 6CP and not 5CP.
      • Winning the finals of a tournament will earn you 1 extra CP. For example, if you win a tournament that spans 11 rounds, you will earn 12 CP.
      • Ladder Tournament qualifiers will earn 6 CP for qualifying as 1st seed and 4 CP for seeds 2-4 in each cycle, and 2 CP per win in playoffs.
    • Live Tours (maximum 5 CP)
      • Friendly Competitions:
        • Held on cartridge through Battle Stadium. A three hour laddering contest in which each player has up to 25 battles to climb as high as possible.
        • CP Payouts:
          • 1st Place: 2 CP
          • 2nd Place: 1 CP
      • Official Roomtours:
        • Held on Showdown. Participants will enter official roomtours that start at scheduled times and will earn points from each roomtour based on their finish. There will be four official roomtours per weekend for two consecutive weekends.
        • Official Roomtours will be held at different times to allow for players in all timezones to participate. For example, 12pm EST to cover US + European timezones and 8pm EST to cover US + Asia timezones.
        • The top four players in terms of total points will advance to a playoff bracket and have one week to complete their games for each round.
        • CP Payouts:
          • 1st Place: 3 CP
          • 2nd Place: 2 CP
          • 3rd & 4th Place: 1 CP
    • Seasonal Cartridge Results (BFL of 1)
      • Getting to Master Ball = 2 points
      • Top 10000 Finish = 4 points
      • Top 5000 Finish = 6 points
      • Top 1000 Finish = 8 points
      • Top 500 Finish = 10 points
      • Top 250 Finish = 11 points
      • Top 100 Finish = 12 points
      • Top 10 Finish = 13 points
      • First Place: 14 points
      • Players who submit results for 5+ seasons will receive a participation reward of 1 CP. Players who submit results for all 10 seasons will receive 2 CP!
        • Cartridge results must be submitted on a separate thread within a month of season end (e.g. S14 results must be submitted before S16 starts)
        • In order to receive credit for monthly submissions, you must achieve at minimum a ranking in the Master Ball tier (e.g. 1-0 runs in Poké Ball are not a valid submission)

After a year of circuit tournaments and battles well-fought, we have reached the 2022 Invitationals. Here are the 12 players who have qualified for this year's invitationals and their seeds. kame923 also qualified in the top 12; however, they have informed me that they are not interested in playing, so the 13th-ranked player in CP will take their place.

  1. Kiby - 36 CP
  2. zaaya - 30 CP
  3. greilmercenary9 - 29 CP
  4. DerpySuX - 24 CP
  5. Butch Hardnight - 23 CP
  6. Fluore - 23 CP
  7. papiloco - 21 CP
  8. Mishimono - 21 CP
  9. martinvtran - 18 CP
  10. NOVED - 16 CP
  11. luisin - 14 CP
  12. Comradesquidwar - 10 CP

Ties were decided by highest cartridge rating as tracked in this spreadsheet.

The format for BSSC Invitationals 2022 will be as follows:
  • All sets are non-teamlocked and best of 5
  • Games can be played with Series 13 rules ONLY IF BOTH PLAYERS AGREE TO IT. If one player does not agree to playing Series 13, the set will default to Series 12.
  • Series 12 Rules
  • Series 13 Rules
  • Because the challenge-only format for Gen 8 BSS is Series 12 rules, in order to play Series 13 you must use a custom rules challenge. This can be accomplished by using /challenge [USER] gen8battlestadiumsingles@@@+mythical,+restricted legendary in any PS room chat or /challenge gen8battlestadiumsingles@@@+mythical,+restricted legendary in PMs.
  • Bringing a Series 13 team to a Series 12 game will result in a game loss.
Round 1 will be up later today.
