2020 BSS Tournament Circuit
(standings spreadsheet and banner coming soon)

In 2020, the BSS circuit continues as we shift our focus over to the new generation. The circuit will consist of 4 tournaments, and will end with an Invitational that consists of the top 12 performing players in the circuit. The 2020 Invitational Champion gets a golden ribbon
on their profile! One major change we will be making from past year circuits is that cartridge performance will no longer affect your placement in the circuit, and most of the tournaments have now gone from being single elimination to double elimination.

BATTLE STADIUM SINGLES OFFICIAL TOURNAMENTS
(Dates are subject to change)
  • Janurary 6: Battle Stadium Singles Open II
    • Double Elimination best-of-three tournament playing standard Gen 8 BSS
    • Loser's finals, winner's finals, and grand finals will be best-of-five
  • April 27: Battle Stadium Singles Classic III
    • Double Elimination best-of-three tournament playing standard Gen 5, 6, 7 BSS
  • June 29: Battle Stadium Singles Ladder Tournament III
    • Qualifying stage with 4 Cycles, each a week long, where top 4 players on the PS ladder qualifies for the playoffs
    • Playoffs is 16-man best-of-three single elimination
  • August 10: Battle Stadium Singles Masters II
    • Double Elimination best-of-three tournament playing teamlocked Gen 8 BSS
  • November 16: Battle Stadium Singles Invitational 2020
    • Single Elimination, best-of-five tournament playing standard Gen 8 BSS
INVITATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Player rankings will be determined using CP (Circuit Points). The top 12 players with CP will qualify for the Invitational, with the top 4 getting a round 1 bye.
  • The circuit has a BFL (Best Finish Limit) of 3. Therefore, only your top 3 performances will count towards your ranking. In other words, having one bad tournament does not negatively impact you directly.
  • Point structure:
    • Players will earn the amount of CP equivalent to the last round that they won in before getting eliminated, not including activity wins. A loss in the Winner's Bracket will count as a win in the Loser's bracket for that round. For example, if you lose in Round 6 in Winner's Bracket, and lose in Round 7 of Loser's Bracket, you will get 6CP and not 5CP.
    • Winning the finals of a tournament will earn you 1 extra CP. For example, if you win a tournament that spans 11 rounds, you will earn 12 CP.
    • Ladder Tournament qualifiers will earn 4 CP, and 2 CP per win in playoffs. Finals bonus does not apply in Ladder Tournaments.

OTHER MAJOR TOURNAMENTS

  • March 9: Battle Stadium Premier League V
    • Community-wide team tournament where managers draft players, featuring past gens and doubles.

Due to the releases of Isle of Armor and Crowned Tundra expansions, and the 100+ Pokemon species each pack adds to the game, there may be some changes to the starting dates of Ladder Tournament and Masters.

To put it simply, the tournaments will begin as the expansion packs are released, to prevent drastic metagame changes from happening in the middle of the tournaments.

Regarding Masters:

Due to the rulechange taking place at the start of next month, the tournament will be shifted back one week, and will be starting at the same time as the rule change with Series 6 rules in place.

As such, signups will continue until the 30th of August, and Round 1 will start on the 31st.

Under Series 6 rules, the following Pokemon are banned, on top of the regular banlist:
  • Venusaur
  • Gyarados
  • Porygon2
  • Tyranitar
  • Torkoal
  • Hippowdon
  • Magnezone
  • Togekiss
  • Excadrill
  • Whimsicott
  • Incineroar
  • Mimikyu
  • Rillaboom
  • Cinderace
  • Indeedee
  • Dragapult

Regarding the 2020 Invitational and Crowned Tundra:

Crowned Tundra, part 2 of the expansion pass, has been confirmed to be released on October 22, which is before the 2020 Invitationals. However, as qualification tournaments for Invitationals has not used that format, the Invitational WILL NOT use the Crowned Tundra format, but rather the Series 5 ruleset if the Series 6 bans are lifted (and Series 6 if not).

After a year-long tournament circuit with the new generation, we are now at the end of the 2020 circuit. These 12 players qualified for the 2020 Invitational and will duke it out to be crowned the 2020 BSSC Champion!

Here are the players for this year's Invitational.

1. marilli (27CP)
2. Luisin (25CP)
3. Mishimono (24CP)
4. zaaya (24CP)
5. greilmercenary9 (22CP)
6. Suspensse (19CP)
7. cant say (19CP)
8. Egor (16CP)
9. DragonWhale (14CP)
10. Breckinridge (14CP)
11. Psynergy (14CP)
12. TectonicDestroyer (13CP)

Ties were randomized using the PS pick command. For the comprehensive list of CP results, please consult this spreadsheet:

As mentioned in the post above this one, the format was initially supposed to be Series 5, as none of the tournaments to qualify for the Invitationals used Series 7 (Post-Crown Tundra format). However, due to Series 5 being almost half a year old now and we're reaching one month since DLC2 was released, I am making the following adjustments to the format of this tournament:
  • All games are non-teamlocked, best of 5 games
  • Games can be played with Series 7 rules ONLY IF BOTH PLAYERS AGREE TO IT. If one player does not agree to playing Series 7, the set will default be played in Series 5.
  • If games are played with Series 5 rules, the restrictions are only applied to the available Pokemon species (i.e. no DLC1 or DLC2 exclusive Pokemon). The use of tutor moves from Isle of Armor and items from Crown Tundra (like Custap Berry and Ability Patched Pokemon) are allowed.
Round 1 will be posted this Saturday.
